- A mother grizzly bear and her two cubs followed a hiker, and he kept his cell phone camera rolling during the entire encounter. Most people would be paralyzed by fear but not 74-year-old Geoffrey Glassner, who was visiting National Park in Alaska recently when the bears followed him. Glassner remained calm the whole time. He hoped the grizzly family would turn off the trail, but they just kept coming. The cubs wouldn't stop, and of course protective mother followed close behind. #InsideEdition
The momma bear knew she was being recorded, she didn’t want to get sued.

From what I've experienced and have been told about grizz behaviour, that sow would have treed both those cubs if she thought he was a threat. Normaly when there's potential prey in sight, mama will keep her cubs in tow to learn how to hunt successfully. Dude is VERY lucky on this day. They might have just had a big meal recently.

That reminds me of when I was hiking and had a mom and cubs following. Not as close mind you and we went on opposite sides of the lake along its length. She didn't seem to mind at all. At the end of the lake, she went into the woods off of the trail. We met up again at the parking lot. She recognized me and gave a short huff of recognition while the tourists did their stupid things.

I spent several years of my childhood in an extremely remote, tiny town in the mountains of British Columbia. It was normal to encounter bears. Kids were taught bear safety just like we were taught street safety. It wasn't really a big deal. I couldn't count how many times I was face to face with a bear as a kid.

If mom saw him as a threat, she would send her cubs up a tree, then attack him. If he moved off of the trail, they would likely just go on by and leave him alone. She displayed no aggressive behavior, but EXTREMELY CONCERNING!
I disagree with walking off the track and letting them pass. That’s a good way to get killed. He did the best he could do just slowly backing up until safe. ESPECIALLY if you’re by yourself. You never isolate yourself further. Every Predators instinct will take advantage of that

Wrong! He was never in any danger. The bear family showed no aggression. It's the instinct of everything in the entire world to take the path of least resistance, hence both the bears and the human using the trail instead of trekking through vegetation. It was just a case of two different species using the same trail at the same time.
