I live in Canton, Ohio. Not this end of town. Lets spend less money on The Hall of Fame and tear down these squalid buildings and build something nice there.
Grew up in Canton, have lived in Arizona for the last 20 years. I went to McKinley and Lehman in middle school, would have been cool to see more of the NW side, I grew up on Worley ave. Couldn't imagine it would get this bad back home, it hurts honestly deep in my soul.
Growing up in Ohio, when I was a child in the mid 60's I had an uncle in Canton. We used to go visit and I remember it was a beautiful town. I have great memories of the area, unfortunately industry and commerce moved out or shut down. Now, as many towns that used to thrive in Ohio are in decay. I was born in Wellsville, Ohio. Same there unfortunately! Not just Ohio, but throughout the U.S. outsourced jobs took it's toll.

But we got a zip line, ferris wheel, and a coming soon indoor water park for the week of the football hof festivities. Good thing none of the out of towners don't have to see any of this surrounding them during their visit...
Was in some of these places today. Canton rates as friendly AND dangerous. If you get a flat tire, someone might change it for you. Look at the wrong person the wrong way and things can go bad. It's my Home.
My hometown. So much hustle and bustle growing up…it’s sad to see what it has become. I still have family there and go home from time to time but it is quite a depressing environment so I always limit my stay
Canton OH is just like Niagara Falls NY, a dying factory town where many residents are on public assistance and where crime is rampant. They are cities of urban decay and abandonment.
I live in Plain Twp. near the high school. If you live in Plain Twp., Jackson Twp. or North Canton, you see virtually none of this. You seem to be showing the areas south and east of downtown. I have no reason to go there. I will admit I do not visit downtown except to pay my property taxes. The city tried to resurrect the downtown area about 10-15 years ago with a bunch of trendy restaurants but most have now faded away. I am not a football fan. I have been to the HOF once in the 25 years I have lived here.

I am so saddened to see how run down my Hometown has became over the past 12 yrs since I moved away the worst part it I still have family and friends that still live there when the Home of The Pro Football Hall of Fame give up to the the violent streets and decaying communities that once were alive. Now all I see is sadness, violent dangerous streets not to mention the decaying homes and buildings home and apartments... I am most troubled to see the SMHA apartments on 6th st and high Sw all boarded up..I had family that lived there at one point..😣😣😣
I spent two year living with my grandparents till my parents could find work up Akron.... as a 7 year I walked to school threw those run down neighbor... scary ... it just keeps getting worse as I can see...
I was born and grew up and lived for 31 years in neighboring Massillon Ohio, but I did live with a lady on 6th st SW in Canton for about 6 months and had been all over the city, for either work or play, partying at the clubs to hanging out at the Canton Parks by the HOF. I moved to Arizona in 1991 and only been back twice, once in 1994, and the last time in 2018 Didn't see much of Canton on either visit. So this was interesting, but I really didn't recognize the areas he was in.
I was born in Stark County in 1980 and moved to Oklahoma City in 2013. I hate seeing what Canton has become. Especially in regard to crime. The city is making some progress economically, but has a LONG way to go.
I live off West Tusc in Harter Heights. It is a beautiful neighborhood surrounded by ghetto and crime is through the roof. Akron is not as bad as Canton. If I had known just how bad - I would have never bought my house over a year ago.
I left Canton 20 some years ago. Still have family in the area. Breaks my heart to see how bad its gotten there. It was nice north of 12th nw, but now that mess has overtaken most of the town.
Back in the 80s me and my friends would walk around in Highland Park at night and never had any trouble. Even though it was said to be horrible and then they renamed it trying to give it a fresh start. I have some amazing memories of growing up in Canton
What is it called now? My dad said he used to hang around there. Tried to find it on the Internet, but couldn't. No way in hell am I driving down there.
Actually, it looks better than where I am from. That being Scioto County Ohio. Portsmouth is old and rough and still thriving. It's the crime rate there that makes it soooo bad in Canton
My city! A few places in this video I've definitely been by before. In all honesty, it's not that bad in most places. Poverty hit the city like a brick when the steel industry went under, but it's been making a slow yet noticeable recovery thanks to jobs and investment from the healthcare industry and the Football Hall of Fame/NFL. Downtown is a lot nicer than it used to be. I'm hoping things improve here. I grew up in a working class neighborhood. Most of the citizens here are good honest hardworking folk just trying to get by. I still live here, I fortunately was able to go to college and get a good well-paying job after a while. Lots of fun places to go to and do, the food here is also really good. It'd be really nice to see more money go into the city through the HOF project/tourism and be invested in the community.
Glad I didn’t take that job and move there a few years back this place is rough to say the least. I think the apartment I was looking at was in sherrick (?)
Welcome to my hood!! I've been in them cracks and crevices my whole life. Seen n still be in most of em today. Poverty it is but taught me everything I kno today. Survival
That building at the 11:00 mark was a factory of some kind. My friend and I explored it and found some crazy things inside. It has only recently been under destruction. We must have been one of the last explorers to venture into it.
I don’t see anything wrong with the areas they say is the worst part of the city. Seems like discrimination to me lol it’s an environment that was created to be toxic.

I’m from here but live in Cincinnati now, they’ve cleaned it up a lot more now bc the hall of fame is so popular. Honestly Cincinnati hoods be so much more worse and I deliver mail too. Been to some rough areas. Canton looked like a cake walk. I ain’t never seen it so clean from trash. Still gloomy everyday I see tho.
Have you ever been shot at or chased? What would be your scariest encounter so far? HOLA!!! thats crazy.....I just dont know how you live in those neighbour hoods...how could your kids even walk to school.....
Hola! Thats a good question. I had a few sketchy moments for sure. Couple times someone chased after, there was someone in nyc that jumped on my hood and rode it for a few streets, i just gave him a death stare the whole time and i think he figured i was nuts and he bailed off (made a hard right). I'd say my favorite was when a gangster wannabe chased after me on a bicycle wearing a mask screaming im gonna git you, but he couldnt catch up LOL
Canton is more or less a blue collar factory town on life support. Not only has there been a mass exodus for better opportunities, but also no incentives for anyone to move there. I was born and raised there, left for college, moved to the East Coast in my early twenties and never looked back.
Ya Canton is past it's prime.. I'm sure it looked great 100 years ago. It is a bit rough in places but they try to keep it nice as possible. People just have enough to get the bills paid. Thats ok. Yards are mowed that says alot. I live here n deliver food. It's not that bad.
Looks like u drove mostly around the old highland heights projects and downtown. That's bad. No question. But there's much more u missed unfortunately. The southwest end is bad around the old junior high. It's bad around the fairgrounds also. Canton is an equal opportunity war zone IMHO.

I've been around this area my whole life. This is the part of Canton, the Hall of Fame club won't show anyone, ever. When I was growing up, and still today, you do not walk the streets after sundown. It's a dam shame nobody will do anything to fix it. The police won't go there even when called, only after the crimes are over. They keep putting up shot spotter systems and gangs just go to the next street down. Can't even go to Norcia's Bakery at Belden & 7th broad daylight without looking behind you.
