I ordered this past week and it appeared they were going to start shipping out yesterday. I have plenty of gear that I make noise (songs? Lol) on... but the simplicity and portability of this along with the innovation and fun factor fueled my GAS hard. Waiting in the car in the pickup line at my kid's school will no longer be boring with this in hand. Haha!
But still gets commission if you buy using his link… there’s little to no independent and not-paid-for reviews on the internet. Good reviewers get bought out and the little guys just want the clout so they review every product and say everything is amazing
I just ordered mine! Super excited to get it. I have an Instrument 1 and Orba 2, although I hardly ever use the Instrument 1, I absolutely love my Orba 2 and use it frequently for generating ideas and brainstorming while making music. I haven't used it as a "Live" instrument yet but I can definitely see the potential as a live-played instrument. Been looking forward to the Chorda since it was on Kickstarter. I really appreciate how much Artiphon listens to their customers' opinions as well. Trying to create a brand new type of electronic instrument while being innovative is definitely not easy, but I think Artiphon is on the right track with the Orba and Chorda.
I've been interested in this but I'm still a bit jaded by the Orba1. The Orba1 seemed great but when you actually got your hands on it, it was clear how limited it was and I lost interest within an hour or two. I feel like the buttons they're using on the Orba and the Chorda just aren't tactile enough as well. I think if I'm going to give them more of my money, it'll be on the Intrument1.
I totally agree with you. They could work on the sensitivity, and also letting you play different scales other than just the pentatonic, because it gets really boring really quickly when all you can do is pentatonic stuff. They could have done so much more with this in my opinion especially for $250. I bought an arturia mini Mark II midi keyboard, and it is just almost infinitely more useful than this for $89.
I'm trying to ask or recommend this to Chorda too, but do you know if there is any way to get the ARP to move with a certain BPM? I love that it has an arpeggiator, but if I can't set it to a certain BPM I can't play along to drums or instruments outside the Chorda (I kind of feel like it wasn't meant to be played with other instruments/drum-machines)
As a guitarist would I like this or should I get the last gen? I’d like to be able to fret my own chords. Can you do a barre chord or any other chords on this or does it only do the chords it’s set up to do?
Great video, Taetro! How are the general MPE capabilities on this one? Is this good to be used as a controller for expressive leads like violins, flutes, slide guitars etc.?
first of all, thank you for making this video. I have a question. If you use Chorda sounds to write a song, and then you want to release it, are there any copyright issues? I recently got a Chorda, and I'm working on an album. I wasn't sure if their sound library for Chorda is legally usable for my own music if I were to put it in my album
How does one hook it up to ableton to use it as a midi controller? Can you point me toward the steps for this? Doesn't seem to be as plug and play as the controllers I'm used to using (and am admittedly not great at routing, etc)...
Cool! I currently use MIDI Guitar on iOS. This might be a good Xmas gift to me. Haven't listened to your whole video. Is it only connect via Bluetooth? Please say no. Bluetooth is the most unreliable part of any music setup.
Right this is junk compared to instrument 1. Can’t play your own chords now and can’t play full on leads like an actual guitarist. They could’ve at least gave more chord options and made it like a fret less instrument where you could play scales like an actual guitarist and bassist
Instrument 1 is great but the internal technology is pretty outdated. I’m hoping they’ve got an “Instrument 2” in the works with improvements over the original like USB-C, Bluetooth and a built in synthesizer so you can play it standalone
I bought an Orba, then they brought out the Orba 2. No way of updating the Orba 1 to Orba 2. if you buy a Chorda they will most probably bring out a Chorda 2, probaly with no updating to Choeda 2 your niked.
There was some significant time between 1 & 2 - and one is a sample instrument while the other is a synth. Don’t be this type of person. Not everything a company does is a personal slight.
Ya lack of chords and other things are why I’ll just stick to my artiphon 1. In the end the Logic Remote in logic can do a lot more than this and has unlimited chord options
Very fun, great build quality, really awesome to play with. Therefore the fact that it is so unbelievably limited in customizability, which severely hampers its playability, is a travesty. Imagine if all the functions, gestures, and zones on the keys could be set to anything you wanted. For instance, pressing a key below or above a currently pressed key in bass mode gives you half step. Strumming up or down to change octaves on the fly. Holding key without pressing A gives you a standard major or minor scale for little riffs at the end of phrases. Top and bottom keys like b/w keys on a keyboard, easier preset selection, there are so many things that immediately come to mind that it could do, all the pieces and capabilities are right there, but for whatever reason, they made it so it cant It is a device in prison
Think I'm going to skip this one, i own the Orb and it's not very useful. A Bluetooth midi keyboard is going to beat most of these toys for half the price.
It's a shame that Artiphon botched the Kickstarter campaign so badly. I'm still waiting for mine, along with hundreds (thousands?) of other backers, while Artiphon shipped units to retailers more than a month ago. It's sadly a company you should never trust with your money.
There have been so many Kickstarters over the years that have had difficulty shipping products out on time as soon as they are released. Unfortunately that is why I don't trust Kickstarter anymore and would rather wait for an official release date because I trust Sweetwater more than any actual company. That being said, I ordered mine on Sweetwater Friday afternoon Jan 19th and received it this morning (Thurs Jan 25).
I joined the Discord and people over there said to simply email them and they’ll send it… it was true! I emailed them, and they sent it. This was just a couple weeks ago. It was double packaged. I feel like maybe there was a problem with the shipper and until it gets worked out, they’re just sending it to those who email

😂😂🔥🔥🔥
Been searching everywhere for an independent chorda review and demo. You're the 1st one that I've found. Thanks for doing this!
Ditto!!!

Great overview bro!
Just in time to add to my Xmas wish list, nice!
A very interesting, unique midi instrument and i love how they made it so its all into one.
Thank you for the review! It will help me decide to purchase or not. Thanks for your transparency ^^
Thanks for the video, just got mine in the mail today! Have they addressed a strum only mode yet?
Cool bit of kit! 🤘
Glad I watched your video, I totally want one of these now. Thanks!

Hey can you use bluetooth midi with an iPad? And does the Looper work?
I just got it and the looping function doesn't record what I'm actually playing, regardless of whether quantization is on.
Thanks for sharing!👍🏻Does it sync with Logic Pro. I read on another review that program crashed when connected to an IOS

I've never watched a video and thought I really want one of them until now, wow impressed is a under statement

Can the Chorda be paired with a BT speaker??
Can you change the preset sounds using an IPad?
Can it set which note that I would like it on each frets ?
How about pentatonic scales found on the handpan/steel tongue drum?
Have they fixed the guitar strumming issue ?
What’s the other guitar like midi controller that appears in the background?
Instrument One (also from Artpihon)
Is that another midi controller on the upper right? What is that?
Can you explain why you said it was hard to pair Bluetooth on Windows? Same concept as apple -- pair in system then choose in music app
bluetooth MIDI is different than bluetooth audio and I hear from windows users everyday who are not able to properly use bluetooth midi devices.
How does one hook it up to ableton to use it as a midi controller? Can you point me toward the steps for this? Doesn't seem to be as plug and play as the controllers I'm used to using (and am admittedly not great at routing, etc)...
USB or bluetooth
@@Taetro understood - but I'm not seeing it showing up in ableton like my novation or akai gear does... thoughts?
I use it simply as a midi keyboard?
On a side note, Taetro, what brand is your mic arm please? I love the Orbas.
12:06 oh how come orba 2 has 12 positions for drum samples but chorda only has 8?!
Fascinating
This or the ROLI seaboard m?
two completely different devices!

Nevermind. Went to the Chorda link and see USB-C for MIDI and charging.
ok need this and orba XD and i never do music before, lol
Hmmm...I wish they'd upgraded the Instrument 1.
Lmfao they completely removed it from the market. They’re more likely to drop any support for it
@@mcgritty8842 yup...marketed as guitar replacement when it's actually a decent mpe controller.
They discontinued intrument 1 for this! I😢

Nobody explains how to change chords. Example, Bb6, G7, Cm7, F7. Do that while playing melody mode.
Very fun, great build quality, really awesome to play with.

It is a device in prison
It would be great and even rudimentary to play songs with a given chord progression. I guess that’s not the focus of this device.
You can achieve this with the chord mode
THANK GOD you didnt start with Dad jazz
im not dad so that wouldn't be allowed
Think I'm going to skip this one, i own the Orb and it's not very useful. A Bluetooth midi keyboard is going to beat most of these toys for half the price.
