What a fantastic episode. I watched it multiple times, I'm always amazed about the creativity and imagination behind it.
Once again Troi letting her emotions get the better of her and running her mouth cost them. Barclay didn't consider them a threat before that point.

Maybe, maybe not. Barclay does figure out how to create small scale micro wormholes to communicate with Voyager. Could be a small scale version of this.

Barclay set up an ad-hoc spore drive for a quick jaunt the the center of the Galaxy. I knew it wasn't just a discovery thing
It can't be spore drive. He said he was manipulating subspace in a way that no one had ever conceived of, but the spore drive was already developed, tested, and rejected at this point.

I love the fact there is a palpable sense of tension and drama in a scene that at base is two people talking in a mostly empty room. Nothing is exploding, nobody’s stunt double is using implausible martial arts prowess against a cgi alien hoard, the camera isn’t shaking and changing angles every two seconds. Nobody is quipping a contemporary pop culture reference every other line.
Sirtis and Schultz are just hitting it out the park with a subtle but evocative script.
Take heed modern screen writers: character, conflict, consequences. That’s where the money and attention need to go.
The needs of the story outweigh the needs of the “franchise”.
It has many things in common with Babylon 5’s elevator scenes which came later. All drama, no special FX, no violence.
Tell the all powerful computer that you're trying to stop it... Such a good idea!

Barclay knows what he is doing, he would not put the ship at risk. Mr. Data is jealous, the times he has taken over the ship have all been mundane. Barclay is taking them halfway across the galaxy.

Never really understood why they just didnt start cutting wires between the holodeck and the other systems within the ship. In theory, it would have been easier to isolate Barkley from taking command of the ship.
