Not only is it a beautiful tune, but look at how they develop each character and their relation to each other. It's a beautifully done sequence.

@notme123: And a standout football player at Rutgers, Phi Betta Kappa scholastic honors and then Columbia Law School. However, when employed as an attorney, a secretary refused to take dictation from him because he was African-American so he left law (the secretary likely wasn’t fired, as she should have been). He was acclaimed for the honesty of his singing and acting whether it was spirituals or Shakespeare’s OTHELLO. He is a role model for all of America.

Helen Morgan (dark dress) was dead just a few years after this due to her alcoholism.

What's insane to me is that she was a decade YOUNGER than Irene Dunne, despite looking like she could be her mother.

@@nickpavia9021 Dunne was only two years older, but I agree--Helen Morgan looks a lot older than Irene Dunne does. Alcoholism took a grave toll on her.

Even the best the best ' actors and actresses' of today would find it difficult to get parts as extras in movies back then among such real talent.

The cast is so perfect for this movie. Makes one wonder why they ever tried to remake it. Same for the staging.

That's the great Irene Dunne, one of the top actresses of her era. See her in The Awful Truth with Cary Grant.

@@seanmaher3518 But I wouldn't call it 'cute', Yes it's 1936 but doesn't mean it's not uncomfortable to watch. Seems to me things got worse in the 1940s when black characters went from menial to menial and 'comically' stupid. As Butterfly McQueen reportedly once said: "I didn't mind playiing the maid all the time, but I did mind being stupid'.
