- I DID NOT RECORD THIS AND I DO NOT OWN ANY RIGHTS. Vanessa Williams, Lauren Worsham, Natasha Yvette Williams, Norm Lewis and ensemble performs "Can't Help Loving That Man" from the musical Show Boat. Live from Lincoln Centre 2015.
Vanessa Williams is stunning, and makes a perfect Julie. She has the gravitas, and the right amount of pathos and drama.
They ought to reinstate her Miss America title like they did Jim Thorpe’s Olympic medals.
Red is a good color for her, and it makes sense dramatically. Julie, the experienced woman of the world in red and Magnolia, the ingenue, in pink.
This is just one of the best scenes and songs in the whole musical repertoire. This Quartet casting is just great. Vanessa Williams is perfect for this.
Vanessa Williams is just amazing
Fabulous singers backed by fabulous musicians, especially clarinets near the beginning, and the pizzicati violins.
This clip is a treasure.
Greatest torch song ever written!!!!!!!!
Incredible performance. What an ensemble. Williams is fantastic as usual. She is perfect at anything she does. K and H just break your heart. Really this was a beautiful performance.
What a fabulous number this one is! Wonderful Vanessa Williams🎉❤
I ❤️ this performance!
Spectacular! Thank You!
First time I watch it and many more times I will again.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Lovely job by all! Sparks fond memories of the second movie version with Helen Morgan, Irene Dunne, Hattie McDaniel and Paul Robeson! Zowie!
Absolutely wonderful performance.
Vanessa Williams gives the definitive performance of Julie Laverne!!! Brava!!!
Clearly you did not see Lonette McKee.
@@richardmayora1289 yes, and Ms. McKee was lovely in the Hal Prince revival!
@@richardmayora1289 Agree. Lonette all the way, Vanessa is good too but Lonette nailed it.
@@richardmayora1289 Is there a place to see that version now?
@@richardmayora1289 Totally agree! The definitive JULIE LA VERNE!
Love this so much!❤️

"Show Boat" is considered the first official "book" musical, and the musical that transformed Vaudeville into Broadway. No longer was going to the theatre thought of as seedy.
Yes! There were other shows before, that also told a story. But, "Show Boat" was the first time a musical had ever been writing based on a novel.
I Love show boat so much
BRAVO!
Wonderfully done!

I would love to see Julian overden singing with Lauren make believe and some of there scenes as anyone got this please post
Annette Warren, who sang for Ava Gardner in the 1951 remake of Showboat is the best version IMO.
Thomas Rafa: No, the best version is Theresa Statas on the complete EMI/McGlinn recording.
@@johnpickford4222 , IYO.
For me the best version is the original Julie Helen Morgan in the 1936 movie and after her Teresa Stratas in the John Mc Glinn 1988 recording and Constance Towers in the 1966 recording Lincoln Center
I can't believe she actually does the weird dance moves from the film in the final chorus 😂
I still don't get them
Back in those days there were stereotypical “white” and “black” dances and it was a big no no to do the other races dance
Very good but Ms Williams is ‘colored’ so somehow missed the point
Although Vanessa has real blue-green eyes and honey-colored skin, she cannot "pass".
