Brian hit it right on the head. The amount of women’s matches, especially in AEW, I watch & can see the women going through the memorized spots in their head like their counting dance steps is far to high.

Womens brains don't work the same way as mens they don't know how to simulate a fight. That's why its so obvious & like a dance routine because women very rarely fight in the first place then if they do it's based on spontaneous instinct like pulling hair and sratching they dont punch and use strategy

Let's just face the facts, women's wrestling is never going to be as popular as the men, and needs to be limited to ONLY using the women who can actually draw interest, whether that be through their in ring work, sex appeal, personality, etc. These women who fail to move the needle with one of the above need to be taken off the show until they prove that they can. Having middle of the road (or worse) female performers on the show, only hurts women wrestling as a whole.

To the smart fans, they have no reason to care because they know the wrestlers blade themselves. To normies flipping channels they either think the blood is fake or they're just gonna be grossed out because regular people don't enjoy seeing women getting cut up.

The reason Becky with the blood covered face was so iconic on Raw was because it was something that rarely happened. It was an accident that happened to become a great push for her career. The keywords here are rarely and accident, no one was asking to see that over and over again.

She did a good job marketing it, as well. It has happened to Alexa and Britt. Alexa's was on NXT and it caused all kinds of drama between her and Sasha. I have been saying what Brian said here virtually verbatim for a couple of years now. Guys like Rock and Stone Cold were generational talents, but they got over the way they did in part because they were in multiple segments on nearly every show. Even the mid card guys got vignettes and promo time on every show because they did not have to fit as many people on one show. Since the number of women's matches have increased, no one is getting over. A big part of that is due to the fact that they are trying to fit so many people on every show. To have the number of women's matches that they are having, it now forces them to essentially field two full rosters instead of one. This means that they have to give time to twice as many performers without having any extra time to do so. The performers get less time, and everything happens so quickly that nothing has time to settle in, or work the way that it should.

The first TNA Knockouts claim they got higher TV ratings than the TNA men in 2009 and I think early 2010. Their segments were also getting more internet/UA-cam clicks. While the WWEs Diva division was just for eye candy, the Knockouts had sex appeal too but also characters who offered something completely unique to women's wrestling at that time. ODB was a hard-drinking comedy character, Awesome Kong was a scary behemoth, Gail Kim was an athletic technical wrestler, Angelina Love and Velvet Sky were well-developed "mean girl" tag-team characters, Daffney was a Halloween character, and Roxxi was doing groundbreaking ladder matches, hardcore matches, and street matches. The Knockouts division had well-developed storylines, stables (Kongtourage, the Beautiful People), rivalries, heat, relationships, and jokes. They even had a women's tag-team belt nearly a decade before WWE. I think people tuned in because no one had seen a woman's wrestling division that well crafted before. (Sure, WWE had once been going down that road in 2001 and 2002, but it was short lived. They very quickly changed their direction by hiring supermodels during the Diva Search and cutting any woman wrestler who didn't look like a supermodel who would appeal to Vince.)

Yep. The Knockouts during that time prove that women's wrestling, if well booked and with interesting characters, stories and matches, absolutely can draw. The problem with women's wrestling now is that the major promotions only view it as a political obligation. I imagine Vince McMahon and Dixie Khan both would rather just use women as eye candy on the actual talents' arm, but they continue this farce to keep the moral busybodies off their asses.

If you're not classically attractive, you're probably going to have to be a character actor that fits your appearance, a villain, or a comedian. Sure, there are double standards and higher standards for women. In the wrestling business, sizeable men have an advantage over small guys when getting booked or pushed. For women however, it's beauty and sex appeal. I don't think most male and female viewers want to watch ugly women, even in heel roles. Some lesbian viewers may like muscular, manly women acting like men, but they don't seem to be driving viewership. My wife and female friends prefer watching fabulous, beautiful women.

I think some of the best matches with women that were emotional that did have blood are few and far between - I'll give you one Lita vs Trish Stratus in 04 (I can't remember the PPV) - Trish got busted open accidentally but it was a blood fued between them where Trish had mocked Lita for losing her baby in storyline ( a silly baby storyline but the feud between the two worked). This led to Trish breaking her nose in kayfabe and wearing a mask, and she bled and really got beat up and was such a hated heel that the crowd booed and cheered Lita and booed the refs for breaking it up. This later leads to the first women's main event on RAW between Lita and Trish where Lita goes over for the title, a great match.
The gratuitous nonsense that I see AEW doing looks awful, and there doesn't appear to be a reason for it.

Demand is a tricky thing to ascertain. And I agree that I can't recall, before we started getting consistently good or great women's wrestling here in the US, ever asking for it. But now that we do have it, I'm glad it's here.
I agree it shouldn't be 50/50 between men's & women's matches just because. But there are absolutely women in both companies that I'd rather see on any given night than certain men on the roster. There have been times when the best match or only match worth seeing was a women's match. Asuka has been my favorite wrestler since she debuted in NXT, and there are few people I'm as excited to see these days. Gunther/Walter & Imperium, Sami Zayn, and then it trends down from there. If I ever travel to Japan, though I wouldn't mind attending an NJPW show, my biggest priority would be attending a Stardom show. Because I enjoy their shows way more than NJPW most of the time. So, I guess the real trick is like Jim said, better evaluating who should & shouldn't get time between men & women.
Using Raw XXX as an example, the only things that I cared about on that show were the trial, the Raw tag title match, and the cage match. Everything that came after that was bleh and worthless to me, mush as I like some of the people who were featured throughout. And it sucks we didn't get the cage match. If I'd been there in person, I'd have left as soon as I realized the cage match wasn't happening. But that's just me.
Will be interesting to see how things progress. But absolutely, WWE has more women worth watching than AEW right now. And blood for the sake of it is worthless. The match referenced was bad on multiple levels. Sadly, I feel like we're still heading towards a women's blood & guts match. I thought both the men's matches sucked, so I don't have any hope a women's match would be any better.

I think there's some truth to what Brian said. Perhaps it's time to make pre-shows more like actual pre-shows. But not just for the women.
Put anyone that has some potential (but isn't main event material yet) on a different show with a bunch of midcarders.
Make those shows 1) more competition based, 2) free to watch on UA-cam.
Have 4 or 5 matches on each of those shows and make it clear that each match has value (much like winning matches in a regular season of basketball, American football, football (soccer) has. --> you score points and climb up the rankings).
Then have the top 3 wrestlers in your (scripted) rankings appear on your main show every 3 weeks (which is not free to watch but brought to you exclusively by...... > name of TV or streaming service< ).
There give them angles and big promos.
This way you encourage all your guys 'n gals to put up great competitive matches at the pre-show because they then get a shot at the main show later. It also gives you the option to rotate talent. Because week 1 'Savage Steph' pinned 'Burly Britta'. But this week there's a match between 'Salacious Sally' and 'Jigsaw Jenny'. Which means the people who liked the match from the first week will want to see how well their favorite from that match does two weeks later.
It also cleans up the card for your main shows so you only have to feature the best stuff. And you'd only need about 1,5 to 2 hours. Making everything more palatable and easy to watch. The hardcore fans can watch both the youtube preliminaries and the main shows. And your main shows still look tight.
I know it's old fashioned. But I would like it that way.

I just want to let everyone that likes Women's Wrestling know that there is a wonderful promotion down here in Texas that is Run by Women, and headed by Thunder Rosa called Mission Pro Wrestling.

Women's wrestling has come a long way, but I think the promotions are trying to make up for lost time, so they're trying to rush the evolution of the divisions.
The problem is, 5, 10, 15 years from now the novelty will have worn off. Billing things as the "first women's _________" draws people in, because it's the first ever. Well, when it's not first anymore, will fans still watch? If the marketing always revolves around it being "first", it dies off when it's not first anymore.
So, the product has to be able to stand on it's own.

Charlotte does get boring with her promos sometimes, Bianca is always boring but I genuinely like Becky. At least during that "The Man" face run. She's good.
But I don't want to see that manly dominatrix Rhea Ripley wrestling Dick Togo's son on Raw. That was ridiculous. 😂

Well we’re not used to seeing women bleed in wrestling, WWE, WCW or TNA never did it, I don’t think even ECW did it. Or if they did it would be very tiny amount.
The only times I remember blood on a women was Lita in the match between Edge and Mick Foley at Mania 22, there is a moment where you could see Lita on the ground checking her chin and lip that looked to have a tiny amount of blood.
And Mickie James during that amazing stalker story with Trish where Mickie got a tiny amount of blood on her face and kissed Trish while she was on laid out on the mat.
So those are the only times I remember seeing blood on a women in wrestling and it was just a tiny amount.

Womens wrestling needs to stop trying to be mens wrestling. No more table spots, no more barbed wire nonsense. Make it more athletic, more technical, more cerebral...technique over brutality. Clever finishes, not just who gets hit with the most devastating assault. Drama and heart, not violence is the way forward.

The Porn Hub thing is an old standard with pornography/sexual content as it concerns violence. Anything deemed too violent mixed with sexual content is almost instantly banned in most countries which is why the line between specific kinks and regular porn is well established. As for the blood in the women's matches, it seems they are both trying to keep up with what the men are doing, which, a lot of the time, is equally stupid and dangerous lately. Or they are going for the hardcore slasher film audience where bloody women are a staple.
