Didn't seem that way at the time (that Kovalev won) and watching it again (in its entirety and in this highlighted reel) it still doesn't seem like he did. He certainly fought hard and he clearly wanted to win; but it's hard to see any evidence that he actually did.

Kovalov win the first half of the 1st fight ward took the other half of the fight so it could've went either way
Ward is absolutely relentless. Both fights were filled with absolute high level exchanges, neither man should hang their head about either fight. All the feints and clean 1 2s, body work, work in the clinch. Great to see to top shelf fighters going at it at their peaks

On points ? I don’t think so. The highlights clearly show Dre out point him, especially after that knockdown. But the highlights also show every time Andre ward lands 3 punches, kovalev would come back with one and it seemed to really affect Andre ward. But ward was still there in front of kovalev the entire night out working him and out pointing him on the inside showing Andre ward is a very versatile, high level fighter. Put your boxing goggles on and you’ll see he won the firsts fight.

Jones had spot on commentary the second fight. Everything he predicted would happen and progress started to for Ward. He could see Kovalev legs being gone earlier in the fight along with him looking for a way out from those body shots.

The ref warned him multiple times but Kova didnt like the body shots coming back and kept looking for the ref to protect him . After which the ref had enough and deemed Kova to not be protecting himself . The ref did the right thing as Kova did not respond to the referees instructions to turn and fight .

Kova fought well untill those body blows but fell to peices under Wards continous and increasing pressure . He broke him ,mentall and physically. Tony Meeks is one of the best refs out there and gave Kova many opportunities to fight back but ultimately Ward was too much for him in those later rounds . Nothing to cry over at all .
Kov beat Ward in their first fight, and you could exactly see how surprised Ward was to be given the win...and I'm a Ward supporter. Obviously, Ward won the second fight.

Ward had to throw the usual game plan away after seeing how much bigger Kovalev really was. That inside fighting and body attack in the 2nd fight was vicious.

The best thing Jones ever said was during the Mayweather Gatti fight. He said something like Gatti was thinking every time I hit this guy I get about 7 times, and as he is saying it Gatti gets hit about 7 or 8 times, and Jones was like 'see'. By the way, I recommend watching Floyd fight Gatti and Corrales. The Gatti and Corrales fights were Floyd's two best performances. Foreman did the Corrales fight, and he called it correctly, cause during the fight he said nobody is gonna beat Floyd.

If you watch the first fight closely, you see Kovalev started off good the early rounds and even knocking Ward down, but around the 5th or 6th round I noticed Andre figured Kovalev out and from that point won the rest of the rounds. That's why the next fight Andre goes In there knowing exactly what to do and finishes him. But I see your point why you would think Kovalev won, cause it was close in the early rounds.

I had Kovalev winning the 1st fight by a round, so it's not out of the realm of possibility for ringside judges to score that for Ward.
Kovalev won the first fight 100%. Ward adjusted well in the second though and did what he had to do to win. A third fight would have been good.

Kovalev seems like one of those fighters you think you could beat until you step in the ring with him. He does nothing special but I notice he sticks to the basics and keeps it simple plus he's tough. He using those long arms and reach well but Ward is a complete fighter and a entertaining athlete

I looking at the fight, now as I stated what low blows. I do see belt line gut blows, those are not low, low blows are to his nuts. There aren't any blows to his balls, this weak bodied fighter can't take body shots, his body is soft in this fight and in the second fight. Now in the second fight I guess you all will say the same thing those punches are low. Ward hit kovolev more then any other fighters he's faced that was the difference between them and Ward. Fights over get over it, you saying low blows surely don't change the out come does it, kovolev lost then quit those are on his record then he got beat again the same way. I'm from the U.S. born and raised. Ward lost that fight. Kovalev got robbed in the sense that he didn't get the win a competitive fight. It wasn't a blow out but it was a clear cut victory.
