The most common word used by today's employers to describe the new emerging workforce is 'entitled'. So leadership expert, Eric Chester, decided to tip that term on its ear and ask employers what they feel entitled to.
The video montage you're about to see features actual employers sharing their true thoughts and feelings.
In a perfect world, business leaders would employ a workforce that's engaged, enthused, and ethically unassailable. The reality, of course, is that the new emerging workforce is streetwise and techno-savvy, but they've not been taught how to succeed in the workplace, at home, or at school.
Eric Chester is the leading authority on developing work ethic in teens and young adults and leading Gen Y employees to achieve at their remarkable potential. His presentation will illustrate why the work ethic in America has declined, and he'll provide solid, actionable ideas and tools for developing the young worker and restoring the pride of a job well done, instilling within them the work ethic they should have received at home and in school -- but didn't.
Discover the 7 Indisputable Core Values that every employer demands from every worker, and why they are getting harder to find but are essential to develop. Find out how to promote a workplace culture rooted in reliability, professionalism, integrity, and respect.
Learn how to be an 'up and over' leader, moving employees from "Idle," "Lucky," and "Cheating" behaviors into the "Valued" Quadrant.
Improve customer service in your business to break free from a "vending machine mentality" by learning how to instill an attitude of gratitude across your front line.

This video assumes that work ethic has disappeared because students are lazy and entitled. The disappearance of work ethic is a rational reaction to the disappearance of employer loyalty. Why do employers expect today's grads to work as hard as older generations when most are rewarded with less money, fewer benefits, less training, more job pressure, and no retirement or job security?

As a long time employer, I thought this was a very conflicted video that sends the wrong message. Neither employees or employers should throw around the "entitled" word... it does nobody any good. In 2014 the best employers know the realities we face today and our only option is to do everything possible to provide an amazing place of work. And prepare to be disappointed at times, it goes with the territory. But don't let the disappointments make you think you get to act, ironically, exactly like the very employees you are speaking to in this video.

be a good leader employers. don't look at people who are going to kiss your ass. look for people who want to grow. it's unfair that we always focus on the perfect image but we never give people the time and day to develop that image. this is a relationship that is crucial if you want to find success. inspire your employees to do better not because your life depends on it but because the relationship of a great team has good composition and works together to achieve the same goal. acting like an asshole and treating your employees like slaves are not going to help you. they hurt you in the end.

Right, and the industries represented by the employers are skilled, not necessarily "college" type jobs. I work in trucking. Sometimes I have to wait hours even a day or two for a load, and as I am waiting, I am not making any money. Is this unfair, yes, but sometimes freight is slow. In my company, the number of miles and loads that I do also reflect onto my dispatcher's pay. If I am sitting not making any money, my dispatcher is making less money. I am expected to be ready for the load. Kids are expected to be ready to work, no matter if there is work or not when they show up.

to be fair most of these employers are from industries that doesnt require college or any form of higher education, and there should be incentives to pursuing said education..but noone is ENTITLED to being employed or a good wage.

Sorry, but if it is a "free market" society, why don't the employers just hire better workers if they have such a hard time with the ones they have? It seems to me people comment on the pimple faced burger flippers and their lack of "work ethic," then point to hard-working college grads to show their "entitlement mentality," when we don't know much about that "type." Some of those kids are going to make bank doing very little, while others will bust their butts FOR very little. Just weird.

As someone who has struggled and worked mostly menial jobs until I BUILT SKILLS/EXPERIENCE and started my own business...WITHOUT A COLLEGE DEGREE!...These selfish pricks (kids in beginning) are not "entitled" to ANYTHING! - Yes they have more education...but that doesn't mean you should be GIVEN a job... To quote John Wayne in a well known Movie "I don't *GIVE* Jobs, I hire men!" Now that is sexist by today's standards... But as an Employer, I don't GIVE JOBS, I HIRE EMPLOYEES! - Treat me and my customers right, and you will be rewarded VERY WELL...Do a mediocre job, well, expect mediocre treatment until the next "Go-Getter" pushes you down, and or out...That Isn't *FAIR* ? Well, sweetheart...LIFE ISN'T FAIR!

Great video. As the co-author of the Complete Idiots Guide to Great Customer Service, this video should be a must watch in every employee's ramp up period. Every high school student and college grad should watch it. Job entitlement is earned, not a right by birth. Great job Eric.

Yeah, I'm all for employees following the rules, showing up on time, dress codes, etc. but saying that students and young people are being entitled brats for asking to be paid fairly or living wages is fucked up. Just because you were too scared to ask for fair wages back in the old days and willingly broke your back for peanuts doesn't mean I have to. I'm tired of the old song and dance of the employer demanding all these things, taking the majority of wages that THE WORKER HAS MADE FOR THEM and calling them entitled when they're brave enough to ask to be paid fairly. (Which shouldn't even be considered brave or a thing people have to do in a civilized society. But the US is more of a capitalistic society so there you go.)
You want me to dedicate the majority of my time and life working for you? You want me to do the best job possible? Then pay me. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
If this was a relationship between two people, it would immediately be labled as abusive, dysfunctional and one sided.

i guess i disagree. seems like employers are talking down instead of talking to potential candidates and employees. this just demonstrates the actual divide between employers and employee. it feels scripted for the employers but then the candidates they asked didn't take is seriously.

59% became a failing score in 5th grade.
69% became half of a failing score in 9th grade.
    79% became substandard in college.
And now 89% is unacceptable. Well, at least there's a linear progression.

Devrie, obviously you haven't been in the work force very long because every industry has positions for college grads. The difference is you don't get to start at the top, you aren't entitled to. Go out and talk to any company in any industry, most will have college educate people heading up their management and leadership teams.

I understand the relation to the end and the beginning of this video. Although you've gone to school and have a degree doesn't mean you should automatically get paid top dollar. You need to show you have skills, are able to do what your employer asks, and gain some experience to get paid top dollar.

Back in 1988 I had a talented young graphic designer come work for me fresh out of college. He admitted (to his chagrin) that his professors had convinced him that there would be a beautifully appointed office just waiting for him once he had his degree. He imagined a bank of windows, leather chairs, and a top salary. Reality was a cruel mistress, but he was a great employee. My point is -- it's not always the students that dream up this nonsense.

The path to the middle class seems to be closed. Perhaps you do owe $20,000+ in student loans. Perhaps you *do* need a job that offers $40,000/yr in order to pay the bills. But employers who once needed high school graduates are now vying for you to work for them instead. And the employers who you had trained to work for are looking at that guy with a Masters degree instead.
What has happened? Divide and conquer the labor force. Your entire labor force is cheaper when you require higher credentials to fill the job than the job requires. It *does* create inefficiencies in your labor force; but employers today seem to not mind those inefficiencies if they can get a college graduate working as a secretary for $11/hr rather than a high school graduate for $15/hr the way they used to.

get a job!!! or are you-tube videos considered a 'job'?? If so...your work standard is substandard! !! The video was not very realistic because you can tell you asked the college students what they felt they deserved or were worth as an employee. Very different ?? than what they feel they're entitled to!
