Rasmus Hojlund may have scored his first Premier League goal, but Manchester United are still looking for an experienced striker to support his development and share the goalscoring burden. Plus they could look to upgrade in several positions.
However, could they do all this in the midst of a takeover from INEOS? How has Financial Fair Play restricted their recruitment?
JJ Bull and Jon Mackenzie discuss the options available for Erik ten Hag's Red Devils.

Realistically I see 0 transfers happening in January..
Loan deals at best 😅
Realistically no one wants to join man utd
@miguellopes9268 never knew you were a footballing transfer agent ...
With recent press conference loan deals are possible
because most of ten hag's signings have been dross, ratcliffe clear does not want to give him more money
The most sensible transfer is getting about 3/4 of that squad out of the club.
Put ten Hag on the wing
Sure, at the same time as not having money to buy new players? Smart lad. Wouldn't get more than 100 mil
Amen
@@j.alexander7554couldn't be any worse than he is at managing to be fair.
@@IVIRnathanreilly everyone looks good until they go UTD.
Ronny, Di Maria, Facao, Sancho, Martial, Carvani, LVG, Mou and now Ten Hag.....
They have all been set up to fail by the sheer incompetence above them.
The comedy of Tifo is amazing as always
Don't miss the initial text "January is no time to rest (defense)"

This Mauro Icardi panic loan is going to hit different
Would actually take that all day but he's already on loan to Gala no?
tbf weghorst was on loan to a Turkish club last year, could be done@@Know_Clu
That actually sounds great
@@Know_Clu He's not on loan, he's a permanent player there.
Why would Galatasary let him leave on loan?
I can't believe Tifo doesn't recommend Ibrahim Sangare anymore
they're pretty red faced about that one, he's bang average and probably won't last at forest beyond this season. I love tifo, but it's pretty clear they confuse football manager stats with real life, hence why they think players who stand out in weak leagues will be perfect for top clubs.
@@highnoon7097 To be fair Sangaré was easily PSV's best player up until his transfer, I'm still confident he can make the step up. But there's a big gap between between great in the Eredivisie and great in the Premier League.
I think everyone can drop the Sangare joke now. Stopped being funny about 3 transfer windows ago.
as a brazillian it is really nice to see Jon using Socrates Democracia Corinthiana’s shirt
any idea where I could snag this??
sport club corinthians paulista, o megazorde de itaquera
Good video. Have you guys thought about starting a podcast hosted by Joe Devine?
oh man, what a great idea! how come nobody has thought of that before?
Todibo had some great appearances for Barca. Was bummed when we let him go
I think the way to unlock Anthony is what Liverpool were doing with Salah. Have one of the midfielders or fullback overlap so he can go inside. He is often left on his own and everyone knows he's either going to try and go inside or pass back
Can see this happening with Martinelli at the moment
@@omother942 I think United don't do that because they're scared of what will happen if they lose the ball and they are more of a counter attacking team than a team that controls the ball
there is no unlocking for that man. he's not good enough, nor will he ever be at the top level - for any top 6 aspiring side
Play Anthony as a left back.
@@nardisola2630 There was a time where Salah was even worse
I think with ten hag opting to use garnacho from the right recently,,it could be something we could get used to since he is much like inaki williams whereby he does not just depend on an overlapping fullback but if available,,he could make use of it by coming into the inside
The other good thing about Garnacho playing on the right will be how it helps him become more all rounded. It'll force him to use and improve his left foot more and as you said come up with different ways to create rather than cutting inside or running at the fullback when he's on the left. It'll be really good for him in the longterm. Plus as we all know, Rashford can only play on the left.
@@apoorvjain6654He's already shown in his two games on the right (and he's only ever played on the right in those two games, insanity) that he's willing to put balls into the box with his left. The kid has so much potential. Maybe he can teach Antony how to use his other foot. 😂
Definitely, and Garnacho’s left foot is way better than I gave him credit for initially. His attempt against Wigan from outside the box after cutting in was better than anything I’ve seen from Antony in the last 6 months.
Garnacho's left foot has already created more chances than Antony 😭
I want to see Amad more off the bench. Antony can just be left out for a few games. He's pointless right now
Thanks for the shout for an important part of Brazilian football history with the "Democracia Corinthiana" shirt
make once for non-prem teams... Like AC Milan
Nobody cares about that tinpot league 🤣🤣🤣
The teams they choose, presumably, are on viewership. Utd fans are privileged, despite their team not performing, because there is a lot of analysis everywhere for them based on inherited fame due to the Ferguson era. I feel for teams that don't get such videos, especially from esteemed creators like The Athletic.
man utd always exist in every transfer market tifo sensible market, you can see the views is more than others 😂
3rd season in a row, Man Utd will have to sign a striker on loan in January because they're so unbelievably badly run as a club. Wout Weghorst, Odion Ighalo, who next? Chris Wood? Graziano Pelle?
Someone give Zlatan a call
One thing I picked up on is that Jon praises Todibo's heading ability even though everything I've read on him says that despite his size he's not strong in the air. Strangely the chart that Jon shows while he makes the assertion also highlights this fact.
I don't know why people didn't seem to see Maxence Lacroix anymore. There were some reports of him moving somewhere before, but now everything seemed to recede a little bit. He's a good player, almost anything you would expect from a modern CB; tall, quick, and good on the ball. His style of play reminds of a combination between Joel Matip and William Saliba somehow.
Serge Gnabry would be a good shot for the RW i would say and i think bayern is open for a sale, his a great finister and playmaker, good dribbler, and not afraid to defend,
A good shout actually
Love this content. Would love to see you guys discuss the value of having a strong academy or national contingent in the first team - I feel like Barca, Milan, Bayern and Man Utd all once benefited from a core group of players that were either from the academy, or from the same country. They played together in their teams and and then in the national team too - Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets; Maldini, Pirlo, Nesta, Inzaghi, Ambrosini; Neur, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Mario Gomez; Scholes, Beckham, Neville. I wonder if having that strong national contingent gives the team identity and familiarity with each other, and maybe that's what teams like Man Utd are missing now. Instead of big-money big-risk transfers, should teams be focusing more on developing a core group of players and keeping them together?
Great comment. Maybe that’s why chelsea a few years ago we’re able to get top four and reach a fa cup final despite a transfer Ban and an extremely young inexperienced squad.
Yup the great teams always do (with the exception of Real) PSG seem to have figured out to stop selling their youngsters and sign mercenaries, if they keep faith in Enrique they could finally get it right with all the Paris talent that comes through
Todibo to United has to happen. I’d love for him to come in January but I highly doubt we’ll do it because of FFP. Maybe we can do a loan with an obligation to buy🤷🏾♂️ either way, I can’t see him going to another club regardless of how much interest is around him when we clearly have scouted him for a while plus Ineos having some ownership in both clubs but it would be typical of United to somehow mess this up too
It doesn't make any sense to me like they own that club just send him on loan with an option to buy simply
@@muneebahmad4378True, but you've still gotta think about it from Nice's perspective. I doubt the club or the fans would like their new, older step-brother coming in and stealing their favorite toy.
Can't believe Takefuso Kubo wasn't brought up as a RW option.
Rather him than Raphinshit tbh lol
Not really sensible though
LOL he's going to get bullied in the EPL.
@@nickraoyjno wonder EPL people have no idea what they talk about. When it comes to nasty foul, La Liga is way way higher than EPL. Red cards in EPL is bread and butter, La Lig defenders barely get reds.
@@nickraoyj Bernardo Silva is literally the same height as Kubo, does he "get bullied"?
Antony & Sancho have made Nicolas Pepe at Arsenal look like a bargain
😂😂😂👌🏼
That Sócrates jumper goes hard, big fan of that
Interesting no one mentions Tammy Abraham. Roma needs the money, and have dyballa and Lukaku who play so well together. Abraham comes back from injury soon so it would be a win win. A loan with a option to buy seems perfect.
Hopefully Brentford can get him cheap in the summer.
Totally agree, Abraham is the best option in Jan
Not sure you will get much more than 10 goals a season from him to be honest.
scalvini at centre back , alex scott in midfield and better coaching from ten hag
the long running PEDRI! gag warms my heart.
Please do a Celtic one. The recruitment team could do with the help!
seems to me at 6:17 you're just describing garnacho. He's played on the right recently and been brilliant, so I'd expect him to get a lot more gametime there this season and if that works out then he'll be a much easier solution than buying a new winger.
He needs to improve his decision making and chance creation. His shooting is unbelievably wasteful even if he scores a worldy now and then. That is his age though because Ronaldo was similar at first so do we persevere or buy a top winger and rotate him off either side?
@@cameronjones8641 He's only going to develop with gametime tho, considering how much money we've wasted on wingers in recent times I'd prefer to give him the opportunity that I think he deserves
Guirassy's release fee is £17.5m, rising to 20 in the summer
That’s in euros
Do one for west ham pls! Esp since we’re struggling for depth
Love the Sócrates shirt, sick print, saying and color scheme.
born again prints
Maybe a weird suggestion, but since hojlund joined I've been thinking what if he was played on the right.
He is fast and at least semi technical, he isn't strong enough yet to hold the ball against big central defenders but he would bully wingbacks and most likely also outsprint them.
Let him keep the game wide where so you get the same effect as Anthony but now you also have a option for the long ball on the side and he can just come crashing in the box from the side instead of the middle.
Just bring in a striker that is able to come Short and receive and you got the pace of hojlund and Rashford on the wings cutting in with a Bruno long ball.
I don't think those 2 combine well when played next to each other, they are both finishers and this would also solve that.
Again maybe a weird suggestion but I stand by it
I don’t hate it as a fluid front 3 maybe, with him in the right
@@LordSeth-hf8ew it's weird that quick strikers rarely get utilised on the right, yet managers will usually have no issues about playing them on the left (Isak, Martial etc). Even Rooney would get thrown out on the left
Love the t-shirt Jon!
I would very much like to find that Democracia Corinthiana sweater if anyone knows where I could find it!!
At this point, just sell Sancho for enough money to pay off his contract wages. Then use the freed up wage bill for a few loans.
Also players on over 250k week should be asked to sell biscuits door to door, to help with FFP.
Shout out to "Democracia Corinthiana" shirt! You guys' football culture is on another level
Williams has just extended his contract with Bilbao, and with Athletic's reputation of selling players for very high sums this would result in another 100m+ transfer, moreover Bilbao have a real chance at Champions League this season - such a move would realistically happen in the summer, rather than a quick fix now
Williams would be wasting his career going to ManU like so many other players. Hope he stays at Bilbao and does well for them and gains CL also.
yay, sensible transfers is fun.
As a Manchester United fan, that title does not make sense 😂.
as a brazilian and suporter of corinthians, iam really happy to see Tifo using a sweater with Socrates
I personally disagree on Diomande being too aggressive to partner Martinez. Diomande usually has to cover (and does this with ease) for Coates' lack of pace and stepping out, as well as Esgaio's...being Esgaio/Geny marauding down the right flank, and his anticipation and timing is usually impeccable to defend the flank and last shoulder with little support with little trouble. If anything I feel like he can be more aggressive in anticipation at times, but is more cautious and waits for his moment to show aggression due to the lack of a supreme defensive partner in his wing-back or a physically capable central centre half to compensate for his downfalls and eager approach while in a higher defensive line.
jon's shirt is amazing!! cheers from a corinthians fan 🦅⚫️⚪️🇧🇷
would be great if they can talk about Sensible Loan moves for Man u this Jan
A sensible transfer would be somebody who hasn't played for Ajax. Just a suggestion, Eric
Don't think he's watching kid.
@@danielatkins1980 he's too busy drawing on his tactics board with crayons
@@danielatkins1980 Fair enough 😂
Like Casemiro, Hojlund, Mount, Malacia and Bayindir?
@@MikeTHEBOSS All better than Antony and Onana so far. Martinez had been good before his injury though
1:38 Mind you, Jesse Rodrigues did it too xD
Nail on the head with the full back. Antony isn't great but the times that he has been able to focus on finding space on the transition or outside the box, he's been moderately effective. United need a consistently good full back on that side that allows Antony to focus more on attack than picking th ball up on the halfway line and exchanging passes with McTominay
one of the best football discussion channel out there rn, i mean the visuals are so clean too, I really appreciate it when a media take care of their visual and design seriously
Real sensible transfer is me buying the brilliant Corinthians sweatshirt Jon has on, anybody know where to find that? My search didn't turn up much.
Would have liked to hear you mention the academy
Mathias Soule is as good if not better than Williams. I want Soule/Kodibo and Eze in the summer. Obviously we need more but I have zero expectations that United will spend big.
Barca may be skint but I dont think theyd sell Raphinha for any less then they bought him for. He is worth that in todays market, especially considering what Anthony cost.
Btw what jumper from Jon Mackenzie haha. Lots of love from Brazil 🫶
Love the shout to Ibrahim sangare
Love the democracia corinthiana jumper
loved the hoodie from Democracia Corinthiana ✊🏻
cheers from Brazil 🇧🇷
Nico Williams would be an amazing transfer - saw him in the San Mames vs Betis and everything went through him, absoutely electric player, however, i do not see it happening, we would still need to break the bank for him
2 excellent picks 👏🏻
9:44 I would take Raphinina and Amad as my right wing options next season
Do one for Barca since they have to spend little to improve
I think best option for the RW would Garnacho. What do you think Tifo?
wow that democracia corinthiana shirt!
Question.. why aren't Maguire and Mctominay and option to sell.?? It is always the players we need.. May someone tell me why?? I don't understand
OK, nice video considering player. But who will be a new manager in summer?
ah humor, i see
Big Sam
probably Graham Potter.
@@Coach-rq6jx Antonio Conte is free? But hes difficult to work whit. And all the good ones are taken. Roberto De Zerbi or Unai Emery would be a good choice! Would love to see Man Utd whit two good strikers!
@@drogzbiboth of them would spit at the sight of Man United managerial job offer 😂
What’s sensible about selling varane?
5:10
That look😂😂😂😂😂😂
If Utd just let go of their ego they could set up a project of building around a promising young front 3 of Garnacho, Hojlund & Pellistri. They've got Mainoo, they have a couple of good attacking midfielders as well. It should be all sell sell sell at United (much like all the top teams now have done) for the next couple of years whilst bringing in young talent to build a new squad full of positive energy
I do think Pellistri deserves more minutes than we've seen but personally still not sure if he really has the ceiling Utd require.
Continue and do it about every team
Love this channel but you recommended they get Amrabat, they did and he didn't fix any problems at all lol
The problem is not right CB, but left one. Maguire has been great this season, and Lisandro is injured, he is the problem
Only wingers that are realistic is Williams, with his 50m release clause and Rafhinha, Olise will be 80m+ and the City Group will never let Savio go to United, and hes been electric recently, looks even better than earlier in the season even though hes output might not stack up. If Williams wanted to go in the winter he might not have signed a contract 1 month ago though.. I think he wants to go in the summer or maybe even summer 25.
ALWAYS CLASS
Looking like Garnacho has already started to take that RW position
i know its a touchy subject but i cant help but wonder where united would be as a club had the MG scandal not happened as he was excellent and only getting better, wud sancho or anthony ever have been signed and who else cud have came in instead in other positions, ive no doubt if MG was still banging them in so wud rashford, wud martial have been sold by now?wud hojberg been signed or could they have had kane instead what a front 3 that cud have been with bruno in behind at 8 or 10 with two good 6s from the money saved, all ifs buts and maybes but how do united fans feel? please let me know?
I like Olise for the RW, while Todibo is a logical shout for CB. However I would also buy a second CB - either Braithwaite from Everton or Guehi from Crystal Palace and move Martinez to CDM or LB tucking into midfield (when Shaw is injured). I still don't see him as a CB but he is really good on the ball and at making interceptions- he can then also tuck in between the two CBs if needed in build up. Having him and Mainoo to alternate in that position would be a great option.
Martinez cannot play as a CDM, that is fantasy. He is a fantastic CB and offers everything we need there. Yes his height is an issue but his anticipation and positioning makes up for it. If we can get him a physical partner like Todibo they would shine.
I'd like to see us sign Antonio Silva and Todibo in the summer. Both of them have huge potential.
@@cccbeats_ may as well get mbappe and Pele while we’re at it
let us sign haaland and pedri too@@kickdowndoors
Quite nice to see a Democracia Corinthiana shirt being used by people from all over the world. Quite surreal actually.
That look. That damned look. 5:09
How were these sensible transfers for Jan?
Exactly, I don't understand why they keep recommending strikers when we can't defend to save our lives
United should also look for a left winger. Every time Rashford gets a run as a striker he is fairly productive, then when he's switched back to left winger his returns drop.
Last season Rashford played 18 games as a striker, scoring 11 goals and 5 assists... he scores more and even more crucially gives more assists for every minute played as a striker compared to winger. At that goals per minute ratio he would score more goals in a season than anyone has done since van Persie and Rooney.
Not to undercut half of this but recent games indicate Garnacho would likely be the sensible solution for first choice at right wing.
This is so bad - the previous format of sensible transfers used to be so much better
nice socrates sweater, jon
I'm surprised the video didn't address midfield 😮
JJ on top form in this, cracking me up.
Doido demais o moletom da Democracia Corinthiana!!! Shoutout from Brasil
as an Atheltic fan Nico just like his brother is not going ANYWHERE! VIVA LEONES!!!
Why is no one mentioning Ibrahim Sangare?
I don't know about you, but I think Ibrahim Sangare will be a good option
The list of players better than Anthony is pretty big (even Mason Mount!!🙃). But i think it's the option of an overlapping full back with pace and creativity would make a far bigger difference. (Dalot is more of a 'midfielder lite').
Besides which they invested SO MUCH in Anthony and he is still young, they need to get the best out of him somehow rather than write him off.
Sell him! He is too limited.
Bring back the pod!!!!!!
We need to sell people like Marital who we bought for high amounts for even lower amounts, we just need to stop letting people go for free/let them sign for someone else
He has 6 months left in his contract. No way he will be sold.
Should have sold him last year for anything.
Also, the reason players go for free is that they count as assets on the club balance eg Martial is a 30 million player.
The club rather keeps 30 million in their balance sheet than selling him for 15 million
Wtf is marital 😂
@Timbone07 who is actually going to pay money for him and who is going to match/better his wages?
@@Timbone07 He was a no show last season due to injuries and when at United both fans and media pushes every mistake into the face on everyone they can. That and the 250k salary, no way that anyone would have payed for Martial last summer. He will go for free and might even have a hard time finding a new club on a free.
@@divout6688that's exactly why selling him wouldn't have been a problem. There's a pretty decent chance nobody even looks at him on a free. He'd have taken a reasonable wage, if he was smart.
Then again he could just be hoping to retire in Saudi.
Actual Sensible Transfers -
Loan Striker: Eric Choupo-Moting or Karim Benzema, got experience and not needed to be bought.
Permnanet Striker: Lois Openda, next superstar of Europe.
Right Wing: Edmond Tapsoba or go all out on Karou Mitoma. Young, hungry and talented. two names who probably won't happen, Solly March and Federico Chiesa.
RCB: Alessandro Bastoni or Antonio Silva, if you have money otherwise Andreas Christensen on loan.
It is not sensible to expect anything sensible from Manchester United. The only exceptions for me are Varane and Casemiro, but look at what they have been to.
Does anyone else think that Thomas Muller would be ideal for them? Leader, experienced, will get goals. Ideal for Hojlund to develop alongside him in training over say the next couple of years.
There’s no way he would leave for Man U they would have to pay him insane wages to make it happen
@@callumbishop1193I think you’re right it would have to be a big offer to tempt him. Likely without champions league football next year at this rate
Is crossing just, dead? They talked so much about cutbacks in the RW segment, but I don't think crossing on from wide areas with the right foot was even mentioned at all.
I always go for Silva in Football Manager and he does well, if that's anything to go by.
Guirassy would want to be a starter at Man United. He won't settle for being benched for Hojlund who hasn't rly proven himself yet
I would honestly settle for no new players and just the ones we already have being, and staying, fit.
Agreed, having Martinez, Casemiro, Mount and Shaw fully fit would be like new signings.
Need to get rid of Scott mctominay, martial and Rashford first
Get our injured players fit and start to sell some of the deadweight (Sancho, Martial, McTominay).
Plzz do one for Arsenal since you didn't make a video on Arsenal in the summer.
"Value in the market." Haven't heard that phrase in over ten years. Making a come back? Like Jumpers For Goalposts?
The Sócrates Democracy t-shirt won my like!
