Surprised that there was no mention of full backs considering how thin arsenal are there. Getting a good fullback could even fix arsenals buildup issues as it could allow them to push zinchenko to midfield without being a defensive liability.
@@ACE360x At this point one starts to accept that Tomiyasu will never be more than a bit-part player, Ben White is simply not good enough for a team with aspirations of winning trophies, same with Zinchenko, same with Kiwior. That leaves one suitable, functional option - Timber - who even themself is not PL proven.
Football is taken very seriously by people resulting in lots of arguing, shouting, toxic masculinity. What is needed is outright silliness without compromising on thorough analysis. This is what Tifo did brilliantly. In its attempt to be more upmarket, please don’t lose its soul.
Kubo could be a nice option tho and could be a good Saka alternative if his injured or tired. Also both of them would push each other to perform at their max. I also think Kubo could play 2-3 position in our system.
This is like watching your favourite indie artist become a massive pop star 😭. Congrats on the growth but goddam just want the UMAXITfootball days back
Dude they are like 16, not every young midfielder in the academy is a Fabregas. If they were good enough to play for the first team at that age they would be
Thanks for inviting us to add suggestions. I’d like to suggest that Arsenal use Martin Odegaard - their best passer but not the most clinical - in a deeper progressive role to unpick defences. Fabio Vieira, Emile Smtih-Rowe and Kai Havertz are all capable of playing the more dynamic advanced midfield role. I also suggest that, having upset people with the name change, The Athletic FC keeps everything else the same!
The real problem here is that Arsenal spent big on Raya, Havertz and Timber, none of whom were for real positions of need. Raya is an improvement over Ramsdale but not a £40m improvement, Havertz was an overspend and doesn't seem to have solved any problems. Timber will be excellent I expect but their existed central defence partnership was already a point of strength. Given FFP rules it becomes much more important to spend efficiently and Arsenal just didn't in the summer.
Timber was a good signing. Having to play holding cos then the title. Havertz on the other hand, has been a big downgrade compared to xhaka in midfield and for a huge amount of money
Timber is absolutely a position of need. He'd have been playing instead of Zinchenko in that stretch where he was costing us games (I love Zinny btw think he's just out of form). I think Timber would have instantly become a fixture in the team had it not been for the injury
I disagree on De Jong being sensible simply because if he was for sale he won't go to Arsenal because literally every top club in the world would be in for him. Arsenal would be behind City, Bayern, PSG, Liverpool, Juve, Inter maybe even United/Chelsea if they (A) have a bad season this year.
I would question both the Neto and Osimhen suggestions. Osimhen has been pretty bad this season, stats may be decent but if you've watched him, you'll know he's missed some quite clear chances. Which wouldn't help our goal scoring issues that we currently have. I also think for a 25 year old, he's still very raw, good at hold up play and decent ball control but still a bit raw. Neto's injury history concerns me, as someone who is supposed to be a backup for Saka, ideally that person would be reliable. Arsenal have enough injury prone players I don't think we should add Neto into the mix. My favorite picks are; Solanke or Toney Torres De Jong
12:55 Havertz literally won us like 4 games: City, Brentford, Brighton, played a big part Luton. He’s not a final passer, but he obviously has runs in the box to receive and score in him
@@fgtrhwu2 with the trajectory the market for players that have been almost unknown a year ago, I would say 60mil+ Even though of course I think that would be too much. Since Arsenal paid so much for Pepe a couple of years ago, they could demand even 80mil£ or more
Frimpong would be the best option. Saka could come inside all the time so Frimpong can make the overlap. Furthermore with a typical no.9 like Evan Ferguson, or even Solanke they would score from those situations very frequently,
I feel like I'm the only one who is quite happy with Reiss Nelson as a backup for Saka. Definitely want a world class 9 though, even if that's the last signing we make this year. A new LB wouldn't hurt too (although I'd be stoked if they just brought Tierney back).
Eze is 100% percent a player Arsenal should go for. He spent many years at Arsenal's academy too. I watched him play for England U21 for many years and he was always a quality player.
Nah. A midfield 3 with Eze and Ødegaard will be defensively a shamles. Think he'd be a much better shout as being both Ødegaard and Saka's rotation player. And getting a solid 8 instead.
🌚 Arteta doesn't clearly trust the back up for Saka There's surely back up for the wingers in Trossard and Nelson But Arteta can't seem to bench Martinelli and Saka or take them off early
FDJ is the player I want the most. Eze high up my radar. FDJ-Eze/Neto and Schlotterbeck could mean we don’t even need a ST since Havertz can backup ST.
I can't help but feel that these are all "sensible" in terms of the profile of player - but can't see any of these being affordable unless we did a David Raya type loan deal.
They have an Eze. He’s called Smith Rowe. He’s cheap cos he’s on the wage bill and he literally tore the league up when he had game time and confidence. He was in the same chat as Saka pre injury. He’s incredible running at people, has a decent goal scoring touch and loves to grab a game and go. He’s maybe slightly better on the transition than against a low blow at the moment but just like Havertz has been given time, I think he should be.
Jon: "Arsenal have struggled to score goals this season and one way to solve this is to sign a striker" JJ: "It's the only way I know." Jon: "Yeah, there's no way they can change the way they play " JJ: "That's true, there is no way to do that" Watching this a month after a January window where Arsenal bought no-one and just smashed 21 goals in their first five games of 2024 giving the best GD in the league....by changing the way they play. This aged well. Also these are some of the lowest-effort suggestions you could come up with. Imagine suggesting Arsenal sign Benzema and still wanting to taken seriously.
Frenkie De Jong is my absolute #1 pick to take Arsenal to the next level. He would be absolutely phenomenal for us. I would rate getting him over Oshimen. I would rather us splurge on him, and pick up a project CF.
Guys the sensible transfer segment used to be options where attributes, feasibility and price were included. Suggesting FdJ and Osimhen, i mean, come on
I think the solution would be contingent on wether Arsenal could sign Osimhen or not. It'd be impossible (probably) to sign all of Osimhen, FDJ, and either Eze or Neto, let alone anyone beyond that
Arsenal can benefit from following "sensible transfers" in case of economically measures- 1. Winger - Ibrahim Salah (Rennes) 2. Centre Midfielder - Stephen Eustáquio (Porto)
@@Ssweis23 yea, but either way his playing time will be reduced next season if we bring in a striker which is the primary reason he left city. Although, if he could stay fit it would be better for him
JJ: "I think Havertz is a player who has non-speed" Huh ? He is actually quite fast, he has created quite a lot of chances for him and others with his speed combined with his off the ball movement this season. This criticism makes no sense, sure he has weaknesses, like his lack of killer instinct in the box or his chance creation through passing, but speed ain't one.
Havertz is everything people think he isn’t, he looks lanky and weak but is pretty strong, he looks clumsy and uncoordinated, but has great technique and positioning to arrive at the right moment. I’m glad Havertz is at Arsenal.
Yeah he is way stronger than most people give him credit for, he is a great player to have in a pressing system, he wins a ton of balls thanks to his mobility, anticipation & strength. Indeed, his technique is quite underrated aswell, he has a great first touch for example (arguably the most important technical skill) but it mostly goes unnoticed by non-Arsenal fans. And as you mention his box crashing timing is top aswell, it has won us multiple games this season already, there is also plenty of times where his off the ball movement opened crucial space for team mates (I think it was West Ham away where he created the space through movement for 5 out of 6 goals). Cheers from France mate !
My suggestion for Arsenal: 3-4-1-2 GK: Raya RCB: Saliba | White/Timber CB: Gabriel | Saliba LCB: Kiwior | Gabriel RW: White | Tomiyasu/Timber RCM: Odegaard | Vieira LCM: Rice | Zinchenko LW: Timber | Kiwior/Tomiyasu CAM: Havertz | Smith Rowe RF: Saka | Jesus LF: Martinelli | Trossard Timber and White to invert on either flank. with a back three to help maintain defensive structure during these forward forays. For this, I would like to see Arsenal make a move for Joao Cancelo, who doesn't seem to be wanted over at Man City. Him and Timber are both capable of playing on both flanks, which cause problems for the opposition should they switch mid-match. White would then return to being the designated RCB in my back three, though this does relegate either Kiwior or Gabriel to the bench. Odegaard would play in a deeper position to help unpick defences with his passing and vision, while Havertz operates as the raumdeuter with his height and skills. He may not have the best finishing, but having two forwards around him to play off to should help alleviate the goalscoring burden.
Saka replacement will not only depend on the quality of the player but also on his sync with Odegaard and Ben White. Quite simply, a Saka replacement will come along with some huge change in Arteta's tactics and might not really happen that easily.
Worse two suggestions for a striker transfer I’ve heard for the Arsenal…. Benzema !!! They start by talking FSP restrictions and then suggest buying a player that’s one of the highest paid players in world football ! Less we forget the other suggested nugget to end Arsenal goal scoring issues … Dominic solanke. The guy couldn’t score in a brothel for the last five yrs then has a decent few months and he’s meant to be the chosen one to win the EPL and a CL title for. The Arsenal ! Eddie is better then DS and Benzema had his chance to join and he didn’t so sorry not for me even if we could afford him which we can’t .
I like Ollie Watkins. Can play through the middle or on the wing. Id be quite happy with 5 players to fill the front 3 positions. Martinelli and Saka obviously first choice on the wings. Watkins, Havertz or Jesus in the middle. Jesus can cover Saka, Watkins can cover Martinelli.
Who they need is a proper superstar goalie. Raya and Ramsdale are good, but they are tier A- at best, to compete against Liverpool and City they need an S tier player like Alisson or Vicario. Diogo Costa from Porto can be an option

Wasn't the White - Saka partnership lethal for the first half of last season?
I think Brooke Norton-Cuffy should get a fair chance. Really starting to feel like Arsenal hate their own academy...
@@RanjanManohar Yeah Finn Garrin-Dias should get a run too, he has all the tools to solve the penetration problems.
Football is taken very seriously by people resulting in lots of arguing, shouting, toxic masculinity. What is needed is outright silliness without compromising on thorough analysis. This is what Tifo did brilliantly. In its attempt to be more upmarket, please don’t lose its soul.
This 🎉🎉
Tifo IRL, I'll always remember your Euro 2020 daily podcast during lockdown with Joe, Alex, JJ and Seb 😭💔
Kubo could be a nice option tho and could be a good Saka alternative if his injured or tired. Also both of them would push each other to perform at their max. I also think Kubo could play 2-3 position in our system.
Dont cry because it's over, smile bc we're all subscribed to the athletic. Joe must be so proud
🤣🤣
This is like watching your favourite indie artist become a massive pop star 😭. Congrats on the growth but goddam just want the UMAXITfootball days back
Hale end is producing some great midfielders now. Lewis-Skelly as 6 and Nwaneri as 8/10. Great ball progressers! And press resistant!
If only Arteta would play an academy product. We only have prem and ucl games now so seems unlikely
@@ACE360x nwaneri is like 15 or 16yo bruh
As an elder millennial I also love the idea of Benzema finally coming to Arsenal :D
Ageing ex-star on big money with a long contract as he declines? Arsenal would never...
My favorite picks are;
Solanke or Toney
Torres
De Jong
12:55 Havertz literally won us like 4 games: City, Brentford, Brighton, played a big part Luton. He’s not a final passer, but he obviously has runs in the box to receive and score in him
The way back was so shocked that even the thumbnail was different and wondering why the athletic are just stealing TIFO IRLs video idea
RIP TIFO
They slaughtered my Tifo
Zhegrova is a good shout for the right winger position. He has been doing wonders in Lille and has the highest amount of dribbles in the top 5 leagues
How much do you think they'll want for him?
@@fgtrhwu2 with the trajectory the market for players that have been almost unknown a year ago, I would say 60mil+
Even though of course I think that would be too much. Since Arsenal paid so much for Pepe a couple of years ago, they could demand even 80mil£ or more
@@MrGrgiZg08 Then I doubt any move for him will happen now. Was thinking someone like Guirassy with that 15m release clause is possible
@@fgtrhwu2 that would be amazing
Frimpong would be the best option. Saka could come inside all the time so Frimpong can make the overlap. Furthermore with a typical no.9 like Evan Ferguson, or even Solanke they would score from those situations very frequently,
I don't think Frimpong is necessary. Brooke Norton-Cuffy can do the same thing. He should be given a chance
I miss when sensible transfers actually brings up relatively unknown names from other leagues. Most recent videos feel lazier than before
Yeah they just look up prem players on sofifa it feels like.
Wait isnt this the second time they have killed a Tifo channel
Yeah the “The Athletic” channel was the tifo podcast channel (there are still podcasts from pre 2020 on there I think)
I feel like I'm the only one who is quite happy with Reiss Nelson as a backup for Saka. Definitely want a world class 9 though, even if that's the last signing we make this year. A new LB wouldn't hurt too (although I'd be stoked if they just brought Tierney back).
The problem is that arteta never plays Reiss. So saka is never rotated unless it’s a carabao cup match.
Arteta's unwillingness to take Saka off hurts their ability to recruit a back up. No young winger wants to sit on the bench when the need game time.
Nelson is doing so at the moment
Eze is 100% percent a player Arsenal should go for. He spent many years at Arsenal's academy too. I watched him play for England U21 for many years and he was always a quality player.
Nah. A midfield 3 with Eze and Ødegaard will be defensively a shamles.
Think he'd be a much better shout as being both Ødegaard and Saka's rotation player.
And getting a solid 8 instead.
🌚 Arteta doesn't clearly trust the back up for Saka
There's surely back up for the wingers in Trossard and Nelson
But Arteta can't seem to bench Martinelli and Saka or take them off early
He always take martinelli off lmao
Don't really care about the name change as long as the videos are still fun!
Thumbnail should give a tifo irl vibe to attract views. almost scrolled past
FDJ is the player I want the most. Eze high up my radar. FDJ-Eze/Neto and Schlotterbeck could mean we don’t even need a ST since Havertz can backup ST.
Missed the animated ones of these big time
I can't help but feel that these are all "sensible" in terms of the profile of player - but can't see any of these being affordable unless we did a David Raya type loan deal.
These two guys look familiar...
JJ with career mode signings, while Jon keeps it realistic
Jon nailing his every shouts yet again what a man
Jon: "Arsenal have struggled to score goals this season and one way to solve this is to sign a striker"
JJ: "It's the only way I know."
Jon: "Yeah, there's no way they can change the way they play "
JJ: "That's true, there is no way to do that"
Watching this a month after a January window where Arsenal bought no-one and just smashed 21 goals in their first five games of 2024 giving the best GD in the league....by changing the way they play.
This aged well.
Also these are some of the lowest-effort suggestions you could come up with. Imagine suggesting Arsenal sign Benzema and still wanting to taken seriously.
Rip Tifo
Nothing says “sensible transfer” like recommending a £150m player to a team who have already spent their season’s budget
The Athletic FC is to Tifo IRL as MK Dons are to Wimbledon.
Frenkie De Jong is my absolute #1 pick to take Arsenal to the next level. He would be absolutely phenomenal for us. I would rate getting him over Oshimen. I would rather us splurge on him, and pick up a project CF.
Tifo, RIP my sweet Prince.
Well Benjamin Sesko,, would be a good wildcard shout
Why is it not tifo irl anymore
Don’t really get the problem with the rebrand? Wasn’t Tifo IRL always part of The Athletic?
Guys the sensible transfer segment used to be options where attributes, feasibility and price were included. Suggesting FdJ and Osimhen, i mean, come on
I think the solution would be contingent on wether Arsenal could sign Osimhen or not. It'd be impossible (probably) to sign all of Osimhen, FDJ, and either Eze or Neto, let alone anyone beyond that
I highly doubt they could sign both Osimhen and De Jong, not even talking about the others.
Will always be TIFO to me
Arsenal can benefit from following "sensible transfers" in case of economically measures-
1. Winger - Ibrahim Salah (Rennes)
2. Centre Midfielder - Stephen Eustáquio (Porto)
Mikel played Jesus on the right against City on the right when Saka was injured and he was brilliant
Agreed, but Jesus doesn't want to play on the wing, he wants to play primarity as a striker. It's part of the reason he left City
@@Ssweis23 yea, but either way his playing time will be reduced next season if we bring in a striker which is the primary reason he left city. Although, if he could stay fit it would be better for him
JJ: "I think Havertz is a player who has non-speed"
Huh ?
My suggestion for Arsenal: 3-4-1-2
GK: Raya
RCB: Saliba | White/Timber
CB: Gabriel | Saliba
LCB: Kiwior | Gabriel
RW: White | Tomiyasu/Timber
RCM: Odegaard | Vieira
LCM: Rice | Zinchenko
LW: Timber | Kiwior/Tomiyasu
CAM: Havertz | Smith Rowe
RF: Saka | Jesus
LF: Martinelli | Trossard
Timber and White to invert on either flank. with a back three to help maintain defensive structure during these forward forays.
Frenkie De Jong, yes! Him and Declan in midfield would be mad. That technicality and athleticism. 🔥
Florian Wirtz is the guy Arteta thought Havertz is.
No CB backup? Even if a case for an addition can be made, White, Tomi, Timber, Kiwior at least deserve a mention!
I miss the Tifo pod so much😢
Damn i remember the rebranding to tifo etc. But it's an organic evolution
I guess the only positive with this rebrand is that Jon and JJ are the only good thing about the Athletic now!
The athletic partnership killed something really special with tifo
Is it even a partnership anymore?
Who they need is a proper superstar goalie. Raya and Ramsdale are good, but they are tier A- at best, to compete against Liverpool and City they need an S tier player like Alisson or Vicario. Diogo Costa from Porto can be an option
Good to see the TiTANS of football analysis
Guirassy with his 15m release clause is a good option
Tifo irl turning into athletic fc just like seeing your old team changing their logo and onwership.
rip tifo, i'll never forget you
Sensible transfers I remember was tifo football, not IRL. THE Joe Devine narrated and sketched version. With real insight into players we had not heard of. Alex Stewart I expect made a major contribution then. I like JJBull and Jon McKenzie but this sensible transfers was really lazy. They just mentioned the top names rumoured. We wait a year for a new sensible transfers and then get regurgitated tittle-tattle. You can do better.
They need a midfielder SO BAD, I like the Eze pick but Frenkie is perfect imo
