    In my experience RPE methods are full of survivor bias, RPE is good finding ppl that can autoregulate fine, but most ppl can't. The other more pervasive thing I notice is with this online training culture as a tool to shift the burden from the coach to the athlete "you're not hitting the right RPE" thing. I used your percentage programs and others with great success but I'm always with the athlete to prevent them to overshoot or undershoot. When I share space with athletes that train based on RPE the almost never estimate correctly, and you can test it in various ways.
    You are experienced and really devoted to the sport so I have no questions about your ability to estimate effort, but most ppl don't have that.

      Even if your rpe is "always off" by 5-10%, but you're always using the same metric/standard to measure it, you're doing it right.

      1. It doesn’t matter if you’re accurate, as long as you’re consistently inaccurate
      2. It takes like a month tops to get accurate with it. Yeah, most people aren’t accurate at first. It’s a skill issue that’s extremely easy to get accurate with quickly tho. 90% of people can and would benefit from it.

    Hey Jonnie! Love your program. It broke a multi year plateau for me. I have a question about knee sleeves. I get pain in my right knee to the point even bodyweight squats hurt quite a bit, so I bought SBD knee sleeves. I want to wear them for every squat I do because it feels soooo much better. Do you think theres any disadvantage to always using them? Do you think it might make my knee weaker/more vulnerable when I have to squat without theem?
    Thanks for the program :)

    I think RPE should be an actual subjective scale and not just a way of reprashing reps in reserve
    On the other hand, I think anybody or any program that is quoting rpe should just say RIR, because that's what they actually mean

  • @wongfit
    @wongfit 9 місяців тому

    RPE usually for heavier weight of lifts because after a certain weight of warming up, you land on not an exact weight, but a range.

  • @andr1
    @andr1 9 місяців тому

    I just use RPE as an accessory. Like on a scale of 1-10 how hard i had to work to get that set done. 10 if i had to give it my all, 7 if its quite hard but not killing me, and anything under 5-6 is a warmup. Working quite well for me and much easier to autoregulate.

    Most people cannot perceive how many reps they have in the tank at all. Many people I’ve trained hang up the weight way too early. In order to get a person to understand RPE correctly I have them load a lighter weight to lower risk of injury significantly. Then I have them go to complete failure. Once they understand what actual failure looks like they can judge RPE properly. Without doing something to failure and learning what that feels like almost nobody I’ve ever lifted with or helped can use RPE properly.

      @@PeliculasYNovelasTurcas From what I understand the quote is Jesus saying the judgement and salvation he offers will inevitably create great divides between those who follow God and those who don't. The division is a sad reality of faith being a choice, not something Christ wants to make happen.

    • @brois841

      The religion one believes in is purely a function of the birth lottery. It's called faith for a reason - it's belief without proof. If Candytoes took the same approach to powerlifting none of us would watch him. Think about that.

    I’m curious what that quote means to you by Jesus? I often feel people misinterpret it but then again it’s possible it’s meant to be subjective in ways for the very idea of getting people to think.
    Also looks like you read the NIV translation (if you pulled this from your own reading). I’m curious why you chose that translation and if you have read others?

    Families are splitting apart as God intended nowadays, as the wheat is already being separated from the chaff...it's both painful and wonderful, because it was always meant to be, but isn't fun to see who people really are when you thought you could trust them. God promised these things would happen so we shouldn't be surprised though.
