  • Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw and Kathy Bates star in Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures The Blind Side, which depicts the remarkable true story of All-American football star Michael Oher. Teenager Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) is surviving on his own, virtually homeless, when he is spotted on the street by Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock). Learning that the young man is one of her daughters classmates, Leigh Anne insists that Michael-wearing shorts and a t-shirt in the dead of winter-come out of the cold. Without a moments hesitation, she invites him to stay at the Tuohy home for the night. What starts out as a gesture of kindness becomes much more as Michael becomes part of the Tuohy family despite the differences in their backgrounds. Living in his new environment, the teen faces a completely different set of challenges to overcome. And as the family helps Michael fulfill his potential, both on and off the football field, Michaels presence in the Tuohys lives leads them to some insightful self-discoveries of their own.

    This movie really touched me. I found I can be distracted and programmed away from what i really feel about things that i become literally unconscious. Its not easy for me to live in the present moment.

    Damn Sandra Bullock is hot! I wasn't ever that much of a fan of hers, but Blindside is such a great movie! Sandra Bullock is so fucking gorgeous in this movie, especially with long blonde hair and the way she walks. She's beautiful!

    Denilson, I'm also a black man and I disagree. I think this is a wonderful movie about wonderful people. I do understand how your thinking, but maybe you should watch some interviews with the real people. The Tuohy family are truly caring, Christians. We should not forget our white brothers and sisters who marched during the civil rights struggle. They risked everything and gave their lives so that we could have this conversation without the threat of violence. The movie itself was a bit exagg

    Also, I think the Christian school does not really amplify the goodness of the act of kindness the Tuohys did. Remember this is the same Christian school who originally judged him as unworthy to enter the school, and whose very own teachers already viewed him as a failure as a student, which happens in most schools, "Christian" or not. If anything, the fact that he was able to rise up and prove them wrong does little to the fact that they viewed him as a less-than, which is unChristian

    Sandra has always been one of my favorite actresses... and when she did this, she totally nailed Leigh-Anne's personality and the way she moves and stuff like that. Both Leigh Anne and Sandra are both inspirational people in my book, and I look up to both of them.

    What is wrong with you--you never saw the movie to say that--they adopted him and he was part of the family and for the first time in his life he had a home and family--he said he only ever wanted a bed and this guy lucked out and got his bed an education he was missing and neglected by and you want to knock that!

    Ok, let me correct my statement...Not nominated for Best Actress...She is Best Actress for 2010 Academy Awards! If not then The Oscars are rigged and not worth anything at all. She has all ready been snubbed twice, Crash and Infamous. This is her role of her life she IS 2010 BEST ACTRESS in a LEADING ROLE....PERIOD

    Title: Sandra Bullock’s Heart Warmer
    Year: 11/13/2009
    Author: Joss Rottenberg
    The 2009 film, the Blind Side is “a cross-pollination of heartwarming family film and musing sports movie, with a little Erin Brockovich-style social consciousness thrown in.” The dignity of the human person is exemplified beautifully in the movie. For the first time in his life, Michael Oher was seen. The Tuohy family recognized the ontological dignity he possessed and made the continued effort throughout the film to ensure that he, himself, and the rest of the community recognized it. This film was skillfully developed because it addressed racial issues relevant in the later 2000s when it was released. The filmmakers did not use the relevant matters to paint the situation negatively, as it is usually portrayed. Instead, the problem is constantly countered from a positive perspective rooted deeply in love. This is highly inspiring within a society where cancel culture is so prevalent and even, at some points, encouraged. The film’s setting takes place within a stereotypical southern town. The Tuohy family receives continual backlash throughout the storyline. Together, they have full attitude awareness regarding their surrounding areas. Leigh Ann, through the “fervor of her motherly love,” does not give this unsolicited feedback the time of day. However, she is not naïve about the fact that this is a widespread concern within her local community. Leigh Ann and her family balance their perspectives to effectively act as the change they want to see within their society. Ultimately, the Tuohys displayed the truth to Michael in a way that he did not even know was possible. They showed him love and forgiveness (e.g., after he crashed his truck with S.J. in the passenger seat). The love the Tuohy family showed him set Michael up for a lifetime of success. The Blind Side remains relevant as we combat these racial issues in America. The characters display the impact that love and honest respect can make in response to these issues rather than choosing to give cancel culture.

    @outinsider Did not the movie "Precious" get the same criticism and it was produced by a African American and he was attacked similar cause he said there are those African Americans who don't want that side of life shown. You resent that there are those who think all African Americans live as you see in these movies. Racist would never make this movie. Watch it again and listen to Michael. Also being in a Christian school setting changes the dynamic also. JMO

    okay so this has to be my favorite movie ever!! and im sooo glad that Sandra Bullock was picked to play Leigh Anne because she is just an amazing actress and she was AMAZING in this movie and i remember hearing something that Sandra had said about how she wasnt sure if she could pull off being Leigh Anne or something like that but she was wrong she did such a great job :) (btw did Sandra really dye her hair or is that a wig?)

    Also, its one thing to show the realities of life as an African American in this country, its another to condemn a whole community for failing an individual, even though that community does not always produce failures amidst the social expectation the oppressor has on the oppressed.

  • @outinsider

    @mattnmac
    I do not hate Michael's success story, nor do I hate the Tuohys. They did a good thing, but the film makes a point to stress the points you just mentioned, which is extremely racist. But, white people are more comfortable patting themselves on the back at one ounce of social progress at the price of condemning people that you already expect to fail, which is also racist.

    If only one and all see the Person Standing Before Them; and If only they not only see the need of Someone Else but also answer the Call To Action; and then to have that call to action not only accepted but also received with honor. Exactly How Would We then Measure the Expansion of Love Experienced? I CELEBRATE THE LOVE DISPLAYED IN THIS "MASTERPIECE" Because so very often the ending is an unfortunate missed opportunity...

    No--Christian schools provide an atmosphere that is different than public schools. They are smaller and more family orientated and personable. I am not about judging ones christian values or behavior. He was scholastically behind some wanted to try help others absolutely not. Tell the whole story.

    At least Precious showed that African Americans actually can be built back up in their own communities rather than get a social handout from a rich white family, no matter what circumstances might keep them down. Besides, when you say "African Americans who don't want that side of life shown" I can only assume that you do not know of the great economic and social diversities within the African American community well to make a blanket statement like that.

    I did not see it as glorying the white person..I saw it that there are still some decent people left in this world white or black. I took in a young black boy from a good home as he ran away as he was dealing with the death of his father and his mother was having a hard time with him and she was good friends with my wife. There are people in this life that goes through hard times and people should reach out and help and not be criticized for it.

    I didn't really like Sandra Bullock before, but she did sooooooo good on this movie, and I do agree with some other people that if she didn't have the chance to win the best actress in academy, something is wrong. I also think that she should win the award with no doubt.
    other movies like something moon does not inspires you, and i think thats the differences between good and bad movies.
    In fact, this is a true story, and i am so happy that there are people like Tuohy family.

    I found the article. I am not interested in others stories only Michaels and what he has to say.
    He loved his mother..he did not care about her failings in this life..it was still his mother. Now she rejects him and when he tries to help his younger brothers and sister out she sells everything he buys them. I understood he was behind in schooling and I never took that he was incapable of learning--never got that--why did some?

    You are speaking of the uncle but the wife said he could no longer stay with them but it did not say why. Or when he heard it did he leave on his own? My understanding was the uncle was paying for the school. Also when he went back to where his mother had lived it was where he lived and he could not help that is how he lived and what he was born into. This is supposed to be his life story are they supposed to lie and say otherwise????I am confused.

    If Sandra Bullock doesn't recieve a nomination for Best Actress something is wrong with the "Academy".Sanrda Bullock became Leigh Anne Tuohy. She did an amazing job. This movie is so great, and I have seen it twice and am going again Thursday, because it shows that there are Good People that do help people achieve their life goals. This is one of the best movies to come out in a long long time. This movie is one of the few movies that leaves an impression on you of such goodness.

    Well, condensed or not, it still make the African American community look like they are incapable of raising successful people by themselves, which is far from true. If people wanted more depth, they should ask for it rather than just celebrate contrivity.

  • @mattnmac

    homeless living in the gym of the school tells me that his African American kin let him down. Since you want to go there. The right people came along when he needed them the most. Rich white people who could hire a tutor to play catch up since he could not get the education in his own Aftrican Amrerican community or the help he needed. Your resentful not grateful for him your jealous cause these people were white and how dare white people be anything but hated.

  • @mattnmac
    @mattnmac 13 років тому

    @outinsider --So that is how you see it. A drug addicted mother living in the bad side of town cannot care for her children no matter the color of her skin. How unfair to this young man and you reject it cause of his color. Now seems the uncle let him sleep on the couch till his wife said he had to go so he put him in that school and the Touhy's came along when he needed help the most since he was homeless.

  • @outinsider
    @outinsider 13 років тому

    @mattnmac
    But, by the time that came, it was too late and his actual mother was deemed bad and unfit to raise him. Then there is the confrontation scene with Michael and that crack dealer, where the dealer practically is every stereotype about African American men in the book of the ignorant white Southern Republican mind. Also, the film downplays the generosity of the families who took him in before the Tuohys entered the picture. The family at the beginning had him for 3 years!

  • @outinsider
    @outinsider 13 років тому

    @mattnmac
    No one is doubting the goodness of the Tuohy family for adopting Michael Oher, but Andrea is correct in that the movie and the publicity that it downs the African American community by stating in more than one scene that they are not fit to raise successful people, which is far from true. There is one scene where Leigh Ann calls out her friends for stereotyping African Americans, yet every other scene stereotypes them. Sure there is one where we learn about his coping strategy....

    To go in depth of everything would take a tv mini series. Which Michael could still always do. Movies are always condensed versions. Michael is like what psychologist study and call "super kids". His story is only beginning.

My wife is far more active than I in those communities as its part of her job. You can't hide the reality. The reality is move on up and out and take the hands that have reached out no matter the color. Case closed I am so done.
