I just wish so many werent two faces around Pac during his Death Row era. Saying they allowed Pac to have their song then they throw shade in Interviews. The Dr Dre solo version has the “California knows how to party line”. Presumably this version was done prior to Pac joining Death Row and would have been the version that Suge played for them
They told the story from Pac's side of writing that song & said he asked one of the older homies that was there some street names or their main streets to shout out and dude told him....simple. Just him showing love to the folks he was around.
Dj Quik was my introduction to Compton. I was bumping Quik since Quik is the name when i was 12. In the midwest, 6th grade the whole lunch table, dudes and females rappin the lyrics to skanless. At 17 me and my lady would bump Quik & Mc Eiht to see which one we thought had thr hardest music. In college, in 96 my roommate from Memphis use to be like.."Mane, i use to like Quik, ........until i met YOU. You bump Quik everyday" I even made my own version of Jus Lyke Compton in high school but instead of cities, i put it as i got kicked out of different schools in the city. Quik .. 🐐 💯

I was in Japan in August 2000 and that was the first time I saw the PS2 and in Japan PS2 was out for like a year before it hit the states so I know he lying about that. Had to be PS1.

That would explain why Barney is credited on Keyboards and Carl Butch is credited on Percussion because Dre likely had them come in and do stuff on the song and build around what Law initially gave him but maybe he should at least get Co-Production credit but hey
Soopafly did I Ain't Mad At Cha and keyboards on a couple songs from All Eyez On Me and went uncredited same with Quik he did boards on Skandalouz and got no credit
We can't just blame Dre for everything because post 96 who's fault is that people aren't getting credit Suge did all them remasters and could've fixed that stuff so he's at fault too and if Snoop does re-releases he should fix those things and if he doesn't he's adding onto the problem also because it's nothing to say

Now i agree with you that i don't understand why Quik was mad at Pac for saying/rapping about Rosencrans & long beach on Calfornia Love just because he wasn't from Compton.

Unfortunately, PS2 was not out when Pac was alive. But MK3 was popular. Reminisce time: The guys who I worked with at mc donalds used to come to the house and we play Tekken and MK3 on PS1 and listen to bone thugs. Yes in 96 at least the first half, the most popular album was east 99. Pac didn't really catch on until April and May when it was getting hot again. I truly miss the 90s. We were dirt poor, but brothers were more collaborative and stuck together. The music was great, well until Master P came out, but that's a different story for a different day... iHeart 90s.
