  • It's early. It's chilly. For many residents of the Wellington region, it's the morning commute.
Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand, and its suburbs stretch around the peninsula to the east, and along both sides of the hills to the north. This morning we're on the eastern end of the suburb of Petone, which stretches from east to west around the Harbour. Ava station sits between Petone station and Woburn, trains headed for Wellington will pass by Woburn station to the east, then turn and cross the Hutt River before arriving at Ava. From here, they pass through an industrial/commercial area, traverse the junction just north of Petone, and then reach the Petone station itself.
This is the first of two videos we'll be sharing from this day, stay tuned (and be sure to slam that subscribe button, blah blah blah) and we'll bring you the same location with some different trains.

4:01 in the video. I didn't realise what a clear line of sight there was from Ava to the building at the bottom of Wainuiomata Hill. Great video.

Hmm those 8 unit trains don’t look very full these days..
I used to use the 8-car peak services, and all the seats were always taken by the time the train left Waterloo
