Hey, it's okay. I don't care for most Shounen either. The fights are cool but without anything interesting character or comedy-wise to hold them up, it's just very meh.
I love how trash taste roasts her for her takes on anime while our trio have some of the most awful takes too. Love you trash taste one of the best podcasts channel on UA-cam for sure.
Emi earned my respect because of cardcaptor sakura which is better than clannad and anohana. If u watch all 70 episodes its as great as after story ending or anohana emding

She likes character driven shows! Emily sees more of the character interactions ! And also I think she likes watching something where you can turn off your brain and still enjoy it
@@orangutan-halibut-walrus I mean they’d do the same with a dude. Also that’s kind of everyone’s schtick when talking to Emily about anime, to make fun of her.
I because she's contradicting herself a lot in the video, she would say she hates one part of the anime and then like an anime that's entirely based on it
@@Soogooroo Pretty much my biggest "issue" when it comes to her anime preferences. She says she likes non-stressful, slice of life stuff, which, for the record, is perfectly understandable. And then 2 seconds later... "Oh, I like Death Note and Madoka Magica." And I'm just like, Could you please clarify? Hell, even Clannad and Fruits Basket can get pretty stressful and sad.
I get it. She likes it when shows make the characters less one dimensional, so she can be invested in their drama. She likes the little things that show the character's personalities and the slice of life build ups so that the drama has more weight and it feels like something is happening to real people.
This is basically how I feel. For me demon slayer season one was the best because it had the most slice of life and character development. It's got worse and worse when every new season was just boss fights. Now season 4 is out and I just couldn't care less. It's boring and all the fun is gone because literally the entire season, bar about 2 episodes, is pure boss battle. Of course you "can" do character work in fight scenes, but only certain kinds of character work can be done there. They demonstrated this by how much of the fourth season was stupid flashbacks lol. It was just epically weak.
You know, she does have a point. Slice of life segments are meant to give characters an air of relatability as they wind down from all the action for a short while. So yeah, seeing characters just goofing off, being themselves lets me get invested in them.
@@FM-dm8xj I’m just tired of action and drama anime. I just want to watch chill anime now. Slice of life is realistic because it’s usually just characters learning from mundane everyday life.
@@hido... all anime is realistic to an extent. you can like slice of life without comparing it to action. but talking objectively, it is notrealistic because u are not from japan.
@@FM-dm8xj you don't have to be from Japan to find it realistic. That isn't objective at all, because it is not like everything pertaining in anime is culturally exclusive in Japan. Slice of Life is typically more realistic because a lot of them just focus on normal life while having life lessons rather than having fights with supernatural abilities and etc.
Unfortunately for her, she can't. Their favorites are either too obscure/niche for her to have watched, too popular and well-acclaimed for her to roast without getting roasted herself, or way too degenerative to effectively do so. For example, Joey likes Serial Experiments Lain, Bakemonogatari, and Mononoke. Fat chance of her having actually watched any of them. They also aren't her shows of choice, so who knows if she will ever watch them. Garnt likes Domestic Girlfriend, Oreimo, and Eromanga Sensei. Trashy shows, yes. But he is aware of that, and likes them anyway despite it, or because of it. So, roasting him won't do much good. Connor likes Hunter x Hunter, Jojo, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, etc. You roast those shows, you're basically getting a death sentence. So yeah, anyway you look at it, Emily is shit outta luck.
@@lordspunk916 I think their point was that yes it's not hard to make fun of domestic girlfriend , but here's an example "One piece sucks " "ONE PIECE IS THE GREATEST MANGA TO EVER EXIST HOW FUCKIN DARE-" "Domestic Girlfriend sucks " "I know "
It feels like emily and daidus have a bit of trouble voicing their opinion or forming it to begin with. Basically perfect for the bois to do a bit of good natured roasting
I think the main issue with them trying to get Emily into anime is that they're recommending shows based on their taste instead of her taste. Even though she was talking about how much she didn't care for fight scenes or gore, they keep trying to recommend shows that are 80-90% fighting with a few exceptions here and there, but most of them are centred around things that appeal to shonen fans more than shojo fans (which seems to be Emily's case), so it's not wonder they were having such a hard time with it. Maybe it's due to the fact that the boys rarely watch shows that are in her wheelhouse, so it was quite difficult to relate to her taste and give recommendations based on those tastes. What I would've recommended Emily: Gintama, Tonikaku Kawaii, Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou, Ascendance of a Bookworm, Non Non Biyori etc.
I mean they've said several times in so many words that anime that tries to be more than smackdown or fqn service fests, with a few exceptions, are generally "pretentious".
I kinda get what emily is trying to say I mean after seeing action animes for so many times you just get tired of all the actions because it can be quite stressing to watch from all the dangerous situations and possibility of the characters not making out alive since you are invested in it so it was a breath of fresh air when you watch slice of life animes because of just the everyday life interactions and stories you can relate. Anyways, Emily might also like the disastrous life of saiki. It’s a goofy anime and all of saiki’s interactions with the other characters are funny. There is also the amazing world of gumball, it’s a cartoon but it’s a funny series.
I'm like her from time to time. I got riled up a lot when I'm watching shonen, they hype me to the point of tears, makes me sad and depressed, and just overall exhaust me especially if it's a really long arc and I still need to go through a lot of stress just to reach a conclusion just like how every major arcs in One Piece are (still love one piece tho and would probably rewatch it again). But sometimes I get break from shonen from watching slice of life anime or just rom com. I don't like drama too much because it gives me stress too. I totally get her and how she just wants just random shenanigans and not focusing too much on the show and still being able to enjoy it because sometimes some show just info dump you in the face. I really love AOT but in every episode I really have to use my brain just to understand what's going on so it exhaust me too and it gives me too much adrenaline that I'm shaking with my body sometimes so I hope no one judges Emily so harshly because damn I've been there everytime a shonen anime tires me out, it's a comfort zone. Also would like to mention Daily Life of a highschool boys and baka to test, not really sure if they are shounen but those are good shows that I think she can enjoy.
yeah emirichu and daidus clearly prefer emotional drama or cute slice of life shows. the boys didn't get the memo. it was pretty awkward watching them suggesting things that were clearly not in her sphere of interest. it's like going to a record store and recommending taylor swift to a metal fan. you might get them to try it, but when you keep pushing the same thing over and over again, it gets grating and awkward. it was mostly connor just not getting that his taste in anime is pretty obviously shonen. not everyone is going to like what 13 year old boys like. it was painfully obvious when connor didn't get why a girl didn't like a idiotic muscular guy like toudo-- but then again, 99% of why trash taste creates so much controversy is because the boys have trash taste and have such conviction that their opinion is correct.
Despite the teasing, I'm glad the Trash Taste Crew finally has someone around with different anime-tastes. It's refreshing! Keep on keepin' on Emily! I look forward to future videos and crane gane challenges from you! I feel like you'll pick out cool and cute stuff !
I totally agree with her, the slower paced scenes are what build the characters and make you care about them, and without those I don’t care at all about a fight. Like, I’m gonna be bored watching an epic battle if I don’t know and relate to the character first, and understand what the point of the battle is for them.
I mean... That's most anime that she put on both sides. A lot of anime have good character dynamics but have competitive/physical violence elements and a lot of anime has good character dynamics without competitive/physical violence dynamics. Emily's taste is cheesy/sappy anime (aka the shojo genre), whereas the guys are more interested in how dynamics revolve around the competition/conflict (aka shonen).
Tournament arcs aren't (just) loved because of the cool fights. Its about the character dynamics of the different and usually new and exciting competitors.
I agree that there are a lot of action packed animes with good character dynamics like dorohedoro, mob psycho 100, and cowboy bebop (i luv them the most) and i think Emily would like them despite some being shounen because the dynamics shines more than the plot. Ofc every show have character dynamics to some degree, but it's a matter of how fleshed out and interesting it is. Each to their own :DD
@@narioh9121 I mean, character dynamics are part of the plot, so I don't think that's it either. Plus, that seems to be the opposite of the case, since most competition shonen focus on how the protagonist influences the group dynamic, and how the group dynamic influences them. While Shojo (the genre of series that she was talking up) focus on how the protagonist (both singular and plural) exist among the world around them, more than the dynamics, plot, or how the environment or characters influence each other.
@@deadersurvival4716 I can't exactly disagree with you cuz the animes she gave in this clip are more of a slice of life comedy rather than shoujo, but i haven't really heard of her anime taste outside of this vid hahsha
Actually I relate to Emily. I think action scenes in anime are cool and I appreciate the craft and artistry behind creating the scene, but if it goes on for too long I got bored because to me because most action in anime is just throwing people and smashing walls with bodies which I don't find interesting. I like more character driven stories, mysteries, and those with intricate and immersive world building.
Same ! Fight scenes are not my thing. Of course I care about power systems and get hyped up when they fight but what I really love is characters and mystery 💕
I just got my gf into anime and she has almost the exact same tastes as Emily. Goofy humor, character relationships, and no long lasting stress (her favorite already is Ouran HSHC). We’re currently watching Naruto and are reaching the battle against Pain, and she is still not over certain character deaths.
I've literally been trashed for saying certain shounen animes are complete shit and hard to watch due to the fan service directed to guys. As a girl, I watch mostly anything that fits into my favorite genre even if I'm a huge shoujo fan but that usually is based on the fact of how uncomfortable the shows are and even worse the fans are towards girls.
idk you've probably watched the wrong shonens cause not all shonens objectify women, for example: attack on titan, jujutsu kaisen, haikyuu, death note, a silent voice, your lie in april, beastars, to your eternity, fullmetal alchemist brotherhood, the promised neverland, noragami , horimiya, saiki k etc also some shonens are literally written by women ! like fma, demon slayer, vanitas no karte, black butler, blue exorcist, noragami etc
@@shesus1986 that’s why I said “certain” in my comment . Also that I watch anything that suits my taste and not just shoujo. Ironically tho I have seen and rlly liked every single one u stated
I think she likes character driven stories with little to no physical violence, and broadly speaking, many Slice of Life, romance, comedy and even Psychological genres are like that.
because she's a woman, men like fights scenes, we dream about fighting we imagine ourselves fighting most want to learn how to fight or play fight with their friends. Men and women are different shocking right?
I relate to Emily on this one. Sometimes, you want a show to set aside some time and take a break from the plot. Seeing the characters interact in more casual situations really help build the audience's relationship with them. I'm a JJK manga reader now, but in Season 1 of the anime I found it hard to get invested in a lot of the stuff that was happening because the story was moving so fast for me to get to know these characters.
This. Haven't read the manga and not planning to but I keep saying the same thing with S1. Maybe it's great for those who read the manga but I just can't be invested on S1. I can't relate to anyone because everything's so sharply cut to move on to the next scene. Waiting for S2 and maybe I'd like it this time.
is the opposite, the manga is better because is faster, the anime put alot of extra scenes. And the majority is unnecessary, they stretch a lot of fights, so is very tiring.
I like manga for the other reason basically just that I can set my pace based on the story. I enjoy character centric episodes when watching an anime UNLESS it's a beach/onsen filler episode because I find those ones get so focused on ecchi moments you just get left with secondhand embarrassment not character-driven moments.
This is why One Piece is my favorite shonen. Sure, it's intense, drawn out and long, but it spends time just giving the characters breathing room. There are moments mid-tension where they just joke about, it gives you a moment to relax and enjoy the characters, without seeing these epic fights.
It's so ironic these dudes make fun of shonen fan behavior but are doing exactly that in failing to understand Emily's taste despite garnt and Joey's video on anime and manga character interaction, but you can't expect much who view all slice of life as the same thing or there short attention span for comedy.
I can relate to Emily's taste, I'm mostly a shoujo-wholesome--cute-dramatic plot driven series fan. And that's why it took me VERY LONG to watch Jojo, I looked at the characters and went "ew why ugly". It took me a little while to get into it but damn do I regret waiting for so long to give it a chance. There's good chances of her enjoying ESPECIALLY Part 4, which is my favorite! Lots of wholesome episodes and fun character moments that are not about the fighting. And now I actually love the art style too.
@@CrimsonCharan Oh course not? There's a lot of shonen series I enjoy, like Kaguya-sama, Your lie in April, Inuyasha, Spy Family, Haikyu...all of them pleasant to the eye at first glance and not about fighting and buff guys. (and yes, they are all shonen) To be fair my first ever shonen was Saint Seiya and I really enjoyed it despite the fighting and violence, but that's probably because I thought most of the gold saints were good looking.
i relate so much to emi's taste in anime. this entire conversation was like a toned down version of what most anime fangirls go through when they say they like anime to a guy that isnt straight up typical shonen (and just any girl in general who likes something). the amount of double standards and having to prove your worth in the label is ridiculous. also just like....theres so much power in having a female perspective and character driven by the everyday motives compared to the typical male view with all the action, this is where representation matters. also slice of life shows are amazing. shonens just dont relate to me in any aspect and it feels like you have to pay attention to literally everything in frame being thrown at you
"Female perspective?" Yes, we should hug it out and talk instead of utterly beating the fuck out of one another. Hollywood's been giving us a little _too_ much of that, we need far more masculine role models than ever before.
I get how Emi feels when she said that she's not built for shounen. It's never been my favorite type of anime and I often find myself enjoying the lighter slice-of-life moments that occur in between fights over the fights themselves. Aside from that, though, her taste in anime is pretty based. Aho Girl, Clannad, Madoka, Nichijou, Yuru Camp. Not gonna lie, it's almost like looking into a mirror, lol
@@yoshmorita6860 True, both those shows are technically shounen. It's one of the reasons why I try to not think of shounen as a genre but as a demographic indicator.
I completely understand Emily's take, I am someone that also just doesn't really watch battle shounen all that much. I watched a few, but just not something that I could get 100% into. The only "shounen" I can really get into is sports anime, since I like character driven shows. Emily don't worry I get you as a another Fruits Basket lover.
What you said is exactly how I feel about period piece or "Dandy themed" anime, I'll never get it, I'll never enjoy it. It's just not for me, and most mechas, just don't get the appeal.
When Emily said she doesn’t like stressing out I felt that!!😭 like I just want a good time with good character interaction or fluffy normal life situations… that why I don’t like Enemy’s to lovers… the enemy’s part stresses me out. Like why are y’all enemies and why are you falling for your enemy😩😩😩
Enemies to lovers just sounds stressful even after a relationship. Like "omg you're such a baby MC this is just like the time I threw you off a cliff and you started crying"
Okay, so basically Emi prefers character driven stories where the stakes are centered around the characters and their relationships with each other instead of some great external threat. Fruits Basket is deceptive in it's initial cutesiness but while it's dramatic, it's grounded. There's no grand battles against otherworldly beings, it's a story about making growing up and how you actually need to make healthy connections with others to gain the independence to break from cycles of abuse. In Madoka Magica sure, the world might end, and there's battles against witches but the story isn't centered on the end of the world. It's centered on Madoka, her internal conflict between becoming a magical girl, and not wanting her idyllic life with her friends and family to change, and how the people around her (mostly Homura and Sayaka) influence that internal conflict. Spy x Family has the constantly underlying political tension and threat of war, but the reason we care about this is because amidst the tension an unlikely family that begins to genuinely care for each other starts to form. I understand where she's coming from...why should I care about the end of a fictional world if I don't care about the people who live in it?
Damn, this perfectly broke down why I enjoy all of the animes you mentioned so much. Fights are cool, but cooler when they are tied with stakes and significance to the characters partaking. In a medium like anime, nothing is more interesting to me than stories about people’s internal conflicts.
As an avid Slice-of-Life enjoyer, I connect with Emirichu spiritually. My favorite shows are shows that absolutely nothing ever goddamn happens. I've been enjoying Aharen-san wa Hakarenai, it's the rare "True" Slice-of-Life" that I've seen recently. Nowdays, I think a lot of Slice-of-Life that have came out recently are just romcoms in disguise. "True Slice-of-Life" for me personally is stuff like Lucky Star, Yuru Camp and such. Of course I did like Dress Up Darling, but that is more ecchi romcom than Slice-of-Life.
The cardcaptor sakura bit was painful lol. It's my favorite. But I'm also a big fan of horror anime like parasite and higurashi. I don't think it's fair to judge people on their tastes. Sometimes there's a reason people are drawn to different genres or mediums in general.
I can't quite identify my taste tbh, I feel like it's so broad that I'll watch a lot of things just for the hell of it, and can't really list 'favorites' because I have *a lot* that I like for different reasons, yet I sometimes find myself somewhat disappointed by something I know is good. (Death Parade and The Promised Neverland are recent examples) Thus far, It's been harder to find something I really don't like and lose interest in quickly.
Poor Joey getting flashbacks of all the hate he used to get (and still gets from time to time now when he shits on a good anime) every time Emirichu badmouthed an anime
I agree with Emily. Idk why it's such a big deal that she doesn't enjoy shonen as much as other people, I mean, it's not for everyone. No matter how good the animation is or how "hype" the situation is and how high the stakes are, seeing a fight just doesn't interest me as much as watching characters interact and talk instead of beating the shit out of eachother. Things that are sentimental but don't require a physical fight but rather a fight of ideals, feelings, opinions, etc. And while there's that in shonen too, I personally don't get a rush of emotions from seeing a shonen fight anymore :/
I honestly get really bored when there's too much fighting in a show. Or! When a manga or anime starts out with a cool premise and then devolves into a fighting tournament arc or something. ... so many manga I have dropped....
as much as I disagree with richus take on jjk, it doesnt surprise me at all that she didnt enjoy it a whole lot. it's a SHONEN, meaning its tailored towards younger guys. it's no surprise she enjoys romance/low tension/slice of life shows
I have a lot of criticisms towards MHA but one of my biggest ones is the fact that, despite the series almost bring over, and we’ve literally barely spent any actual time with Class 1-A just hanging out They’re LITERALLY the main class??? Unless you’re the main cast, you’re pretty much gonna get sidelined. and even then, We don’t really see much of the main 3 hanging out in their leisure too. Its honestly an issue i have with golden wind too tbh. Part 3 isn’t that good either and most of the main cast is underdeveloped and goes on for way too long. But the giant plus-side of that length is that we get to spend WAY more time with them and actually GET to see them in their downtime a bit more. Even if they’re not written great, you still build a connection with them by just being around them. Something I honestly can’t say for part 5 characters that aren’t mista or narancia (or the majority of mha characters tbh) And this is coming from someone who might genuinely like mha AND part 5 over part 3. 💀 I’m with emily Its like a lot of the folks behind modern shonen anime saw the huge negatives that came with the filler of the older shonen (bleach, dragonball, naruto etc) and instead of finding a middle ground, they just dramatically went in the other direction and often cut content from the manga to the point where the anime has almost 0 downtime 😭😭😭😭
I think Emily would definitely enjoy Komi Can't Communicate especially all its funny moments. I think she would also like Kokoro Connect an interesting view of others lives and Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru which is a great magical girl style anime.
2:18, Connor's face lmao. Also Emily is exactly me. I respect JJK fights, they look amazing, but at the end of the day, it's a shounen. Nothing really new there. The best part of this was them just universally agreeing that My Dress up Darling is good and just moving on. We need more guests like Emily. The boys kinda have similar taste so when they do talk about anime, it's usually just them agreeing with one another with the occasional weird take.
My fiance and I loved my dress up darling. He likes romance series but refuses to watch the new fruits basket because his sister used to rewatch random episodes of the original anime around him too often. It's a real shame honestly.
my dress up darling is also nothing new. its just a "will they wont they" trope of romance that is just unbearable to watch. Also, JJK is peak shounen, especially after the Shibuya arc. Of course, JJK will be related to other shounens because of intertextuality. No work in literature is truly original, bozo. JJK is just straight up one of the best shounen.
@@espada8077 Honestly, I think you missed the entire point of My Dress up Darling. Sure it's a romance but ultimately, it's more of a coming of age story with Gojo. He's thrown in there and you would expect him to be just like every other generic romcom protagonist where they're supposed to be blank slates that you self insert into. But Gojo is an actual character, he has goals and aspirations, he develops, etc... Marin is there to be the catalyst to make that happen rather than be just a one dimensional love interest that follows MC around like a dog like most shows do with the main female lead. As for JJK, I wrote that comment before I had seen the movie. I still stand by season 1 of JJK being meh at best. I get that of course EVERY story will take parts from others, that's unavoidable but JJK in season 1 wore it's influences on it's sleeves and refused to deviate. It was enjoyable but an extremely predictable experience when it tried to portray itself as something deeper with complex issues like what makes the right death, how should you truly live life, etc... That being said, I have since watched JJK 0. I'm much more impressed with the series now. JJK 0 was really good. I haven't started season 2 yet, gonna let it go a bit further before I binge it rather than watch weekly. But to say it's one of the best shounens out there? It still has some work to do before I'd give it that accolade. If everything after JJK 0 stays as good as 0 was, then it definitely will have it's place as one of the best shounens but for now, no, I disagree.
I feel her. I don't think I'm built for Shonen. Some of my favorite anime are Shonen but characters punching each other and telling an emotional back story gets old after the 100th time.

You know what, I actually really relate to what Emily's saying here. The way I would put it, is that sometimes anime fights just feel like "two guys blast magic at each other" and the action quickly starts to lose weight. I really really love action that involves real weapons or more hand-to-hand combat, or anything that explores characters and interesting themes. Shonen can have that too, but any part that is just fighting without the "weight" factor is just dull imo. That's the reason why I couldn't get in Jojo, for example.
Emily is in the right here, she just ISN'T into shounen. Cuz you know, shounen is geared towards dudes. Connor not understanding the wholesome, slice of life taste is as gorilla as it gets
guess u could say shes "just like other girls" lol. Ive loved female targeted media since i was a kid (barbie, totally spies, winx club etc..). My first anime was a shojo & i fell in love with the medium becuz of it. On the flip side, i fell asleep during the first ep of hero academia so thank god that wasnt my first anime lol Ps. a shonen i adore is aot but who doesnt XD
As a female, I’ve never met another female (including myself) that actively watches and likes Shoujo anime. Having tits doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate jaw dropping fight scenes, adrenaline rushes from life or death stakes and just other stereotypical shounen stuff. It’s just a individual person thing, not a gender one
@@kaleycooper9111 i never said that women shouldn't be watching it either. But it's in the name itself with shounen, it's targeted towards young teen males. Hell, most of my female friends watch more shounen than me. There's a lot of women that watch shounen and that's great. Emily just isn't a fan, I was just making a point that shounen is geared towards guys AND she doesn't like it. It's definitely a personal thing, but it also makes sense why she doesn't
@@kaleycooper9111 Ummm.... anecdotally you might've not run into female shoujo fans. But if these teen girls(shoujo is for teen girls, Josei is for adult women) weren't buying these specifically gender -based media, such a seperate tag wouldn't exist in the first place.
IVE BEEN WAITNG FOR THIS SEGMENT SINCE THE PODCAST AIRED!!!! we need more segments like this if our guests like anime. copium here too, maybe one day they can roast my taste as well!!
Jujutsu Kaisen is simply fun. That is why people like it. The animation is fluid, the characters are likeable, and the setting is interesting. It honestly reminds me of YuYu Hakisho. Great characters, fun world, and entertaining fights. It's simple and very effective
I kinda agree with Emily that I don't like when shows take too long to be great. I understand good stuff needs time to be setup, but in the meantime, there must be something that makes me enjoy what I'm watching instead of making me hope it eventually gets better. One example is Tower of god, I just didn't like it but everyone just said "IT'S AN PROLOGUE" , but do prlogues need to be that boring? The same thing happened with That time I got reincarnated as a slime, if I didn't like the anime after 12 episodes, it's fair to say that it's not for me. On the other hand Vinland Saga started a little slow but from the very beginning I loved the characters, the atmosphere, the production and so on. I also wasn't a huge AoT fan during Season 1, but I liked the action, the world building and some characters. Then this show got continuously better and better that nowadays it's one of my all time favorites. 15:23 also my face expression was just like hers
one thing i will say about tower of god is that the anime is a pretty shit adaptation of the prologue, but it is enough to understand the source material. i highly recommend reading the webtoon from season 2 onward because from the beginning to end it’s nonstop heat.
@@tipperr The thing about the TOG adaptation is that it got me interested in the manhwa, which I think was the main idea. I have it on plan to read for very soon
@@D3D3D understandable ngl. honestly though if you ever feel like it take my advice and read a summary, then read season 2 onwards in the manwha. i PROMISE that shit is worth it.
@@D3D3D I think the problem with the Tower of God series is that the show had a very beautiful worldbuilding but some of the characters were lackluster (Especially Baam) in the anime. It cut some important character moments and made it into a generic shounen. As it was the first webtoon to get an anime adaptation, I went ahead and read the webtoon. It was very worth it. The prologue was very mysterious in the webtoon. You can check it out. It is one of the longest running series that I keep up with alongside One piece. Also can you recommend some series that start of slow but proceeds beautifully?
Emily just have this super cutesy atmosphere around her with all the cute outfits, strawberries, storytime animations... And then she has her Iconic laugh that just feels like a misfit in the beginning 😂😂 That laughter is what just sold her channel to me
Emily has good taste. I'm also not a fan of battle shonen, most of them are so formulaic and even the "best" ones just feel like watching epic fight scenes with a show tacked on.
Yea the only shounen I've enjoyed recently is Chainsaw Man. Even though there's a lot of action, it somehow doesn't have that formulaic power leveling system that's in 99% of shounen. And the characters are so interesting to me, most other shounen characters feel specifically crafted for a wide audience appeal. But Chainsaw gets weird with some of the characters, and I appreciate it.
Curious which “best ones” are that way? FMAB is regarded as one of the best if not the best and it is definitely more than just fighting with show tacked on so I don’t think it could be FMAB. So curious on which anime you’re talking about
Tbh, I agree with Emily here. The less high-stakes moments of modern shonens are some of the best, in my opinion. The dorm room episode from my hero academia, where we get a deeper dive into the personalities of the kids for the first time, was one of my favourites in the show.
I know it's "trash taste" and the boys' taste are "officially not better" But.. I dunno. This segment got me really frustrated and pissed off... It was the same feeling what I felt back at Meilyn's 3x3 ... Let girl fans love their shojo/josei/reverseharem/whatelse shows without being judged. Let them have trash tase similarly to others without them feeling bad about it. Let them enjoy characters that they can relate to. (Shit, don't tell me the guys' favourite shows and characters are not their power fantasies of themselves -.-) And I know they are good friends and this is just for fun and a good crack, but... I really tried to defend the boys but I just couldn't. Sorry, it was borderline bullying for me. Same with Meilyn and I listened to that part multiple times as well, just to find something that I could use to justify their behaviors. I still love these "degenerates", their videos and their podcast. This issue is just something I wanted to voice out. I also know, it could come from the whole notion of "teenage girls' interest is always something to laugh at and to mock of", moreover they mention series that are universally declared god tier, but I didn't like or get into them as well, and I know I wouldn't get into them ever (even if it's on paper has elements that i like in a show) Heck, Emily's whole childhood crushes series are much better than this discussion. Erold and Daidus were mocking her but it was in much more gentle way. And it was back and forth. I love that video and the extended one as well. It radiates so much more joy and fun. That was a nice banter, this is not. Again, I love the boys, but when you have this big audience (which is niceee) and this many followers... Then even if you say and hide behind that "yeah but I like trash, and I have trash taste" the meaning will change... It will become "good" trash, something that you might being goodheartedly mocked off. But when it comes to other shows and other people mocking and stating their trash taste is much harsher. The stigma did not disappeare, only the context changes it. In tash taste community it loses its original meaning. Yet, I say it only applies to the boys and guests who has similar taste.
I agree with you on Emily. It did get a little frustrating, watching the boys roast her like that. Meyline, on the other hand, is a bit more difficult for me. She rides a fine line between "degeneracy and weird" and "just fucking gross and annoying". Now, full disclosure, I don't know that much about her. But, from everything I've seen and heard, that's kind of the vibe I get. I'm sure she's lovely behind the scenes, but honestly, I don't think we can actually hang out for more than 2 hours per week, max. But again, that's just me.
I think you missed their point. They were trying to figure out why she likes some shows while disliking others despite the shows from both groups being so similar.
I respect JJK, and its fans. But when a JJK fan has the absolute audacity to say Demon Slayer is a mid, generic shonen carried by animation.... Bro, you like *Jujitsu Kaisen*. Don't throw stones in that glass fucking house.
Nah dude jjk and demon slayer are no were near same....jjk is realms above demon slayer in terms of fighting, storytelling, character development etc I mean u will understand eventually in S2 of jjk
I mean they have a point, demon slayer’s story is kinda garbage. Kagaya can literally see the future but doesnt use it for anything and lets about every hashira die. Some concepts we learn abt demons are just nonexisent in later chapters (severe head to kill demon etc). Characters are trash. At least jjk actually has a good story and good characters
Honestly I am with Emily in this I don't give a damn about fights, If I care about something is the reason, the consequences and the character arcs that are relatited to the fights not the fights themselves.
That is very true. Fights can be a good spectacle to admire, but the best fights aren't the ones with the flashy animation (though that can certainly help), the best fights are driven by the emotions of the characters and how there impact them and the story, which is just one of the many reasons why I love jjk so much.
Well yeahh that's how fight scenes work. The characters and stakes create the drama and tension in the fights. If the fight has none of that, then it's nothing but mindless violence that no one cares about.
Why do they seem so shocked that someone isn't the biggest fan of shounen. Like my anime taste is pretty much exclusively shounen but I can totally get why people wouldn't care much for a shounen I like
It's not that they're shocked that Emily doesn't like Shounen. They're trying to figure out what made Emily not like JJK, specifically Connor. They just summed up that Emily would have loved JJK more if it is more character dynamic and more slice-of-life.
This to me seems to be a battle of the most common boys vs girls stereotypes. Boys like action mostly, and girls much more care for character interaction drama and development. Now keep in mind these are broad general stereotypes I said. there are guys out there that can not like action and prefer character drama and development and there can be girls out there that can like action above all else. But as a basic understanding of boys vs girls mindsets, this is what the trash taste boys vs emirichu feels like to me.
I totally relate to this. I feel like I have two genres of anime I want to watch, and they are polar opposites let me tell you. First is the chill, funny, slice of life animes and the other is the psychological, suspense, plot-twists-full animes. I choose depending on what my mood currently was at the time.
I feel like Emily would like the ranking of kings, it's based on character interactions and based on their dynamics with the world, it also has good world building so.
I absolutely get Emirichu, to her well executed character dynamics and shenanigans are more important than fights and action scenes. If you're like her I highly recommend Yu Yu Hakusho (english dub), it's the perfect shounen anime for people with that preference.
another round of emily being roasted. I think each of them have individually roasted emily on her anime tastes with daidus. Now its all them minus daidus roasting her anime tastes.
jjk is actually an exception for me because i also usually don't care about battle shonen lol her taste is totally understandable and much more in line with what i usually like. i love character driven shows! the interactions between characters and how they evolve as people/their relationships is what keeps me interested (not even in a shippy way)! it doesn't have to be feel good, i really like drama and angst in my shows, but not having a lot of things happening and focusing more on characters is Fine and Good actually

Typical Connor

I want to see Emily roast the boy's taste in anime next. She needs her redemption arc
Unfortunately for her, she can't. Their favorites are either too obscure/niche for her to have watched, too popular and well-acclaimed for her to roast without getting roasted herself, or way too degenerative to effectively do so. For example,
Joey likes Serial Experiments Lain, Bakemonogatari, and Mononoke.

Daidus just seems to not give a shit about his taste lol.
I feel like Daidus doesn't even try lol
Also Deaimon
I mean meilyne has very similar tastes to Emily.
I totally agree with her, the slower paced scenes are what build the characters and make you care about them, and without those I don’t care at all about a fight. Like, I’m gonna be bored watching an epic battle if I don’t know and relate to the character first, and understand what the point of the battle is for them.

Emily's taste is actually very easy to describe lol she likes shows with good character dynamics, and she is so right for that!!
And this is why i love One Piece. Fights are a part of it, of course. But the main story is mostly focused on the world building and characters.

because she's a woman, men like fights scenes, we dream about fighting we imagine ourselves fighting most want to learn how to fight or play fight with their friends.
@@marcos-ll2yr fights are stretched? Somethings definitely wrong with u...

When Emily said she doesn’t like stressing out I felt that!!😭 like I just want a good time with good character interaction or fluffy normal life situations… that why I don’t like Enemy’s to lovers… the enemy’s part stresses me out.

2:21 don’t worry we feel you Connor
My comrade
Lucky star is my favorite anime lol

non non biyori and animes like barakammon are also true ''Slice of life" as you say.
@@curiousmusician6313 I like slice of life with a little bit of shounen elements like bakuman and natsume yuujinchou
The more I watch trash taste the more I feel like that about 90% of the anime community would crucify me for my taste

(Death Parade and The Promised Neverland are recent examples)
Thus far, It's been harder to find something I really don't like and lose interest in quickly.
anitwitter is probably the worst platform to ever talk about your taste in anime/manga
I have no idea why couldn't they understand Emily's taste when it is soo easily understandable

Poor Joey getting flashbacks of all the hate he used to get (and still gets from time to time now when he shits on a good anime) every time Emirichu badmouthed an anime
"I think it's good" = shitting on an anime lmao
I agree with Emily. Idk why it's such a big deal that she doesn't enjoy shonen as much as other people, I mean, it's not for everyone. No matter how good the animation is or how "hype" the situation is and how high the stakes are, seeing a fight just doesn't interest me as much as watching characters interact and talk instead of beating the shit out of eachother. Things that are sentimental but don't require a physical fight but rather a fight of ideals, feelings, opinions, etc. And while there's that in shonen too, I personally don't get a rush of emotions from seeing a shonen fight anymore :/
People are just small-minded
I honestly get really bored when there's too much fighting in a show. Or! When a manga or anime starts out with a cool premise and then devolves into a fighting tournament arc or something. ... so many manga I have dropped....
as much as I disagree with richus take on jjk, it doesnt surprise me at all that she didnt enjoy it a whole lot. it's a SHONEN, meaning its tailored towards younger guys. it's no surprise she enjoys romance/low tension/slice of life shows
I think they're just ribbing her. It's what friends do
I have a lot of criticisms towards MHA but one of my biggest ones is the fact that, despite the series almost bring over, and we’ve literally barely spent any actual time with Class 1-A just hanging out
They’re LITERALLY the main class???
Unless you’re the main cast, you’re pretty much gonna get sidelined. and even then, We don’t really see much of the main 3 hanging out in their leisure too.
Its honestly an issue i have with golden wind too tbh.
Part 3 isn’t that good either and most of the main cast is underdeveloped and goes on for way too long. But the giant plus-side of that length is that we get to spend WAY more time with them and actually GET to see them in their downtime a bit more. Even if they’re not written great, you still build a connection with them by just being around them.
Something I honestly can’t say for part 5 characters that aren’t mista or narancia (or the majority of mha characters tbh)
And this is coming from someone who might genuinely like mha AND part 5 over part 3. 💀
I’m with emily
Its like a lot of the folks behind modern shonen anime saw the huge negatives that came with the filler of the older shonen (bleach, dragonball, naruto etc) and instead of finding a middle ground, they just dramatically went in the other direction and often cut content from the manga to the point where the anime has almost 0 downtime 😭😭😭😭
As a JJK fan, I totally get her perspective. I don't think it's for everyone. The manga gets insane like Garnt was saying.
I think Emily would definitely enjoy Komi Can't Communicate especially all its funny moments. I think she would also like Kokoro Connect an interesting view of others lives and Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru which is a great magical girl style anime.
I can get behind Kokoro Connect and Yuuki Yuuna, especially the latter.
What funny moments
Didn't she said Komi is boring in the full podcast?
If Emily enjoyed Nichijou and Aho Girl, I STRONGLY recommend her to watch Asobi Asobase
The first 30 secs of the show is top tier meme material.
A hidden gem.
In the words of daidus: "my name is Emily and I only watch card capture sakura"
16 minutes of the boys going "so you're saying" and "that's basic it doesn't count" 😂
I love emirichu for finally calling out shounen fans and tense scene enjoyers.
I feel her. I don't think I'm built for Shonen. Some of my favorite anime are Shonen but characters punching each other and telling an emotional back story gets old after the 100th time.
The villains in JJK are more slice of life than the heroes lmao
The curses chilling in Dagon's beach Domain. :))

Conner teasing over turning off your brain during fight scenes but you know he turns his off during dialogue.
The balance of IRL drama and drama in your escapism. I know it all too well.
Rewatching Nichijou these days.
Nice pfp, tatami Galaxy is amazing
Emily needs to animate this clip
I wonder how she would draw Gigguk.
On the flip side, i fell asleep during the first ep of hero academia so thank god that wasnt my first anime lol
Ps. a shonen i adore is aot but who doesnt XD

Jujutsu Kaisen is simply fun. That is why people like it. The animation is fluid, the characters are likeable, and the setting is interesting.
It honestly reminds me of YuYu Hakisho. Great characters, fun world, and entertaining fights. It's simple and very effective
idk if I agree with simply fun, thus far in the anime i get that but even so far there's a lot of fairly dark violent and depressing shit that happens

Same!! And this also applies to any media for me

13:41 Connor lied as easily as he breathed. Based on everything Emily has been telling us, she would hate JoJo
I don’t even watch anime but I relate to her so much. I love chill scenes where characters are just chilling and shopping and cute stuff
@@tipperr The thing is, it was so boring I've already forgotten half the stuff that happens, and I don't feel like revisiting it.
Ok, Emirichu likes drama in the Shakespearean sense not in the action sense. So I think she would like Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth cetera.
The fact that all they do is talk about shoenen means that they have no right to roast anyones opinions
This is the first person I've heard of who doesn't like Toudou. With that said, it's so nice to hear a real slice of life enjoyer.
"what is she absolutely disgusted by? Its just the cast standing around" I'm ded lmao
Emily just have this super cutesy atmosphere around her with all the cute outfits, strawberries, storytime animations... And then she has her Iconic laugh that just feels like a misfit in the beginning 😂😂
That laughter is what just sold her channel to me
Emily has good taste. I'm also not a fan of battle shonen, most of them are so formulaic and even the "best" ones just feel like watching epic fight scenes with a show tacked on.
True, I wanna See Fights like.....
ah Bus Fight from Nobody
Goofy and dramatic anime are actually just comedic relief after a stressful day nothing more
Yea the only shounen I've enjoyed recently is Chainsaw Man.
So curious on which anime you’re talking about
Yeah, FMAB is a shounen where the story is an actual story, not just a vehicle to get to the next big fight scene or power up. Same with HxH.
(Shit, don't tell me the guys' favourite shows and characters are not their power fantasies of themselves -.-)
And I know they are good friends and this is just for fun and a good crack, but...
I also know, it could come from the whole notion of "teenage girls' interest is always something to laugh at and to mock of", moreover they mention series that are universally declared god tier, but I didn't like or get into them as well, and I know I wouldn't get into them ever (even if it's on paper has elements that i like in a show)
Heck, Emily's whole childhood crushes series are much better than this discussion.
Agreed 100%.
Agreed completely. Definitely just felt like they are just looking down on anything that is a bit more popular and geared towards women and girls
It's not that deep bruh, it's just taste and opinions..
I respect JJK, and its fans.
But when a JJK fan has the absolute audacity to say Demon Slayer is a mid, generic shonen carried by animation.... Bro, you like *Jujitsu Kaisen*. Don't throw stones in that glass fucking house.
Nah dude jjk and demon slayer are no were near same....jjk is realms above demon slayer in terms of fighting, storytelling, character development etc
I mean u will understand eventually in S2 of jjk
Owh...
So you like Kakashi and obito fight ?
Every punch tell a story...
@@hanzolee1174 so... If it was less shounen...

Adding Emily to this podcast spices things up even more 😂
This to me seems to be a battle of the most common boys vs girls stereotypes.
Probably a weird thing but I just HAVE to put it somewhere: emirichu sounds literally like daidus but female- this is absolutely insane.

I feel like Emily would like the ranking of kings, it's based on character interactions and based on their dynamics with the world, it also has good world building so.
I absolutely get Emirichu, to her well executed character dynamics and shenanigans are more important than fights and action scenes. If you're like her I highly recommend Yu Yu Hakusho (english dub), it's the perfect shounen anime for people with that preference.

jjk is actually an exception for me because i also usually don't care about battle shonen lol her taste is totally understandable and much more in line with what i usually like. i love character driven shows! the interactions between characters and how they evolve as people/their relationships is what keeps me interested (not even in a shippy way)! it doesn't have to be feel good, i really like drama and angst in my shows, but not having a lot of things happening and focusing more on characters is Fine and Good actually
