    In 1983, the American League still had 5 ballparks that were built before WWII.
    Cleveland Municipal Stadium: 1931
    New York, Yankee Stadium: 1923
    Boston: FenwayPark: 1912
    Detroit, Tiger Stadium: 1912
    Chicago, Comiskey Park: 1910
    The National League had 1.
    Chicago, Wrigley Field: 1914

    Duuuuude Britt Burns is my dad and I've been looking for the video broadcasts for this ALCS series for years, especially this game. Thank you so much.

      As an Oriole fan, I’ll say you should be very proud of your dad. Pitched his heart out and got to play a game that a very small minority are skilled enough to play.

      He pitched one of the best games I’ve ever seen. My God, he deserves a special place in Heaven for that performance. I’m still sick about this game 40 years later. If only Jerry Dybzinski could have held up…

    In 1981, when I was 22 years old, my friend and I drove from the East Coast to Chicago and saw a game in old Comiskey Park. The White Sox manager was Tony LaRussa. Then, 41 years later in 2022, when I was 63 years old, my wife and I drove to Chicago from the East Coast and saw a game in the new Comiskey Park (or whatever they call it), and the White Sox manager was a guy named...Tony LaRussa.

    Nice to hear 👂 these 2 voices doing this game. Grew up with Chuck Thompson and Bill O’Donnell doing the PBP. Brooks Robinson IMO was the greatest third baseman of all time. I think this was the last year they allowed local broadcasts.

    Just amazed in seeing Luzinski's broken bat going into the stands. Amazing that certified trial specialist LaRussa learned from this by the time he was A's manager "Let the big dogs do big and whatever it takes"

    I was at this game. Freshman year at Brother Rice. My father had season tickets through his job. Went to many games that great year. My seat was second row , upper deck 1st base side , looking right down the line.
    83 was great....All-Star game , playoffs. Too bad they only had a 1-yr run.

    First time watching this game in 40 years. I was 16 and a junior at Perryville High School 🏫. Little did I know that it would be their last World 🌎 Series win or appearance since them. Several trips to the playoffs but not quite. Last ALCS trip was against Kansas City and we got swept 🧹. Every game was close.

    I was at this game and after this inning went to the potty after this at bat. There was plenty of choice words for Jerry Dybinski. I didn't go to many Sox games and my Uncle had tickets. Fans were FURIOUS at Dybinski. His base running blunder took the chance at the the Sox tying it up. What a DIP shit, still to this day. Balk by Baltimore pitcher would have scored a run 😤

    • @Bob31415
      @Bob31415 Рік тому

      Tying it up? The score was 0-0 when that happened. Chicago would have won the game.

    this would prove to be the beginning of the end for both teams...Chicago really came unraveled after this and for the life of me Ill never understand why LaRussa left Burns in. Also a bit of two different tales being told as to Ripken getting hit in game 3 would prove also to be the beginning of the end for LaRussa in Chicago. Its almost like he lost control of the team after this game

    Disagree with the venerable Chuck Thompson: the difference here was, not that Baltimore was the better team, but experience, plain and simple. The stats show which team was "better": the Chicago White Sox. They were the best in the league in the regular season. But the postseason is a whole different animal, especially in that unforgiving era of the 5-game series. It was a new experience for the White Sox, whereas the Orioles were a team hungry to avenge World Series catastrophe 4 years prior. THAT is a world of difference when two otherwise evenly-matched teams collide. Kudos to Tito Landrum. But the whole picture was far greater than his great 10-inning at-bat.

      My Sox only scored 3 runs that entire series to the O’s 19. Same number of hits for both teams (28), yet the O’s were very efficient in getting them across the plate.

    I was also very disgusted with the Orioles who purposely injured Luzinski & Kittle. Perhaps the dirtiest team in baseball at the time.

      Tito was acquired in late 1983 from St. Louis, ironically he was re-acquired by those same Cardinals in the 1983 off-season. That might explain your inability to find the card 😉🙃

    Winning strategy, injure teams folk hero (Kittle GM3) setup good pitching expectations starters/relievers and players enjoy swinging to sacrifice/move runners and drive the ball all other occasions. Twins benefitted a couple of years later by instantly hating ogre Ray Miller so much they were motivated come '87. Did not know the answer to the trivia ? but I have one "Who was the last Orioles player to be solely responsible for a teams games cancellation as to deal with a domestic matter" A:Cal "No Need For That" Ripken, JR.

    • @lemmiwinks09

      WMAR was an NBC affiliate in 1983, so basically the only feed you could see in Baltimore was the local telecast with Chuck and Brooks.

    • @RolloSmokes
      @RolloSmokes 6 місяців тому +1

      @@lemmiwinks09 That's not necessarily true. Depending on where a viewer was located, they could have watched the NBC broadcast from either D.C. or Lancaster.
      And WMAR didn't have to produce their own ALCS coverage. They could have went with the network broadcast entirely and just did local pre- and post-game wrap-arounds. All that really mattered to NBC was getting their in-game ad inventory cleared.
