I won’t lie, I believed what was Mike was saying here too. So, I can’t fault him for this take, but it’s still fun to look back and know how wrong he was. Was so disappointed Harbaugh wasn’t working out. Then he not only turned it around and had a 3-year span of success with 3 wins over Ohio State, 3 Big Ten Championships, and 3 CFP appearances, but he actually won the frickin National Championship. Us Michigan fans dreamed of it when we hired him, obviously. Most of us felt certain he’d bring us success, but winning it all was a “maybe”: unlikely but realistically possible. After the way his first 6 years went, we just wanted one win over Ohio State, Big Ten title, and CFP appearance, but figured even that wasn’t happening. So, it’s incredible that he not only did that, but also achieved what we dreamed of in the beginning

I've been a Buckeye fan since the middle 50s. Those games with Michigan were all classics in their own right. The sight of those weird maize and blue helmets always sent a chill down my spine. But that is all gone now, and there is no one to fill the void -- not yet anyway--it takes a couple of decades to build the kind of all-consuming rivalry that OSU and Michigan once had.
I grew up in the Cooper when we never won, so I don;t care how many years in a row we beat them... it's ALWAYS the highlight of the season for me. I grew up listening to my grandpa talk about Woody and my mom talk about Earl and I'm glad I'll have Tressel and Meyer and Day to raise my kids on.
Brutal honesty - It's not recruiting that's the problem at Michigan, the #1 problem, for years now, is PLAYER DEVELOPMENT! Michigan has recruited very well; has the resources in place; and still consistantly gets the very LEAST out of most of their athletes!?! Want proof?... From 2016-2019, OSU has had fewer (69)-4&5 star recruits turn into (18) - 1st & 2nd round NFL picks, while UM has had more (71)-4&5 star recruits turn into much less (4) - 1st & 2nd round picks!?! Michigan just continuously gets LESS out of their top recruits and appears to actually hinder average levels of development. Some superstars that come to Michigan are so talented they rise above and make it through the program and to the NFL inspite of sub-par development (some have reported sub-standard training techniques as well as poor coaching) but for a long time now the Michigan program seems to get the very LEAST out of athletes. Meanwhile, Wisconsin for example, has only signed 9-4&5 star athletes TOTAL in those 4 recruiting years, but has played in 6, SIX, Big10 championship games to Michigan's ZERO! True they are in the other half of the conference, but the Badgers managed to spank the Wolverines this season 35-14 inspite of far inferior recruiting rankings... and before you say it's because Ohio State is in the East, keep in mind both Penn State and Michigan State from the East have been able to beat Ohio State recently and earn trips to the Big10 Championship game. Top recruits should do themselves a favor, randomly choose any other college in America, but should avoid Ann Arbor like she has the plague. Bottom line is all of the football superstars coming out of high school want to go to the NFL. Michigan appears to be about the worst possible choice nationally for that path! Very sad, but very true! With no coaching change or end in sight in Ann Arbor!!!

OSU fan here. I regularly listen to Mike V. for his insights and perspective on the college football scene. His scathing remarks are spot on! When he criticized Mark Dantonio a while back for hiring his middle-aged buddies as assistant coaches, I could not agree more. IMO Urban Meyer fell into the same pattern; I was delighted when Meyer resigned and Coach Day took over.
If you ra real osu fan you would know Meyer is legend .. Imagine every year losing your best players to the draft after they only playing one year and every year losing your coaches to other programs Meyer is legend now I do feel we will be more offensively balanced with day but don’t disregard one of the best recruiters ever better hope that stays the same

You know Michigan football is right where they should be historically. They haven’t won the B1G in 15 years. Haven’t finished in the Top 5 since ‘99. Only 1/2 National Title in 70 years. Michigan has only ever had 11 or more wins five (5) times in history. This is exactly what they historically have been post WWII, a 9.5 win a year program.

I just want someone who knows hockey on 97.1. Hearing anyone try to talk about it on this station makes me cringe so hard. And they are now coming back up. It started with the 2018 draft and is continuing with yzerman. This station covers Detroit sports. I won’t lie, I believed what was Mike was saying here too. So, I can’t fault him for this take, but it’s still fun to look back and know how wrong he was. Was so disappointed Harbaugh wasn’t working out. Then he not only turned it around and had a 3-year span of success with 3 wins over Ohio State, 3 Big Ten Championships, and 3 CFP appearances, but he actually won the frickin National Championship. Us Michigan fans dreamed of it when we hired him, obviously. Most of us felt certain he’d bring us success, but winning it all was a “maybe”: unlikely but realistically possible. After the way his first 6 years went, we just wanted one win over Ohio State, Big Ten title, and CFP appearance, but figured even that wasn’t happening. So, it’s incredible that he not only did that, but also achieved what we dreamed of in the beginning

So funny to come back to this but it was true during the time but thankfully harbaugh delivered
I've been a Buckeye fan since the middle 50s. Those games with Michigan were all classics in their own right. The sight of those weird maize and blue helmets always sent a chill down my spine. But that is all gone now, and there is no one to fill the void -- not yet anyway--it takes a couple of decades to build the kind of all-consuming rivalry that OSU and Michigan once had.
I grew up in the Cooper when we never won, so I don;t care how many years in a row we beat them... it's ALWAYS the highlight of the season for me.
I grew up listening to my grandpa talk about Woody and my mom talk about Earl and I'm glad I'll have Tressel and Meyer and Day to raise my kids on.

It's not recruiting that's the problem at Michigan, the #1 problem, for years now, is PLAYER DEVELOPMENT!
Michigan has recruited very well; has the resources in place; and still consistantly gets the very LEAST out of most of their athletes!?! Want proof?...
From 2016-2019, OSU has had fewer (69)-4&5 star recruits turn into (18) - 1st & 2nd round NFL picks, while UM has had more (71)-4&5 star recruits turn into much less (4) - 1st & 2nd round picks!?!
Michigan just continuously gets LESS out of their top recruits and appears to actually hinder average levels of development. Some superstars that come to Michigan are so talented they rise above and make it through the program and to the NFL inspite of sub-par development (some have reported sub-standard training techniques as well as poor coaching) but for a long time now the Michigan program seems to get the very LEAST out of athletes.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin for example, has only signed 9-4&5 star athletes TOTAL in those 4 recruiting years, but has played in 6, SIX, Big10 championship games to Michigan's ZERO! True they are in the other half of the conference, but the Badgers managed to spank the Wolverines this season 35-14 inspite of far inferior recruiting rankings... and before you say it's because Ohio State is in the East, keep in mind both Penn State and Michigan State from the East have been able to beat Ohio State recently and earn trips to the Big10 Championship game.
Top recruits should do themselves a favor, randomly choose any other college in America, but should avoid Ann Arbor like she has the plague.
Bottom line is all of the football superstars coming out of high school want to go to the NFL. Michigan appears to be about the worst possible choice nationally for that path!

OSU fan here. I regularly listen to Mike V. for his insights and perspective on the college football scene. His scathing remarks are spot on! When he criticized Mark Dantonio a while back for hiring his middle-aged buddies as assistant coaches, I could not agree more. IMO Urban Meyer fell into the same pattern; I was delighted when Meyer resigned and Coach Day took over.

Regional programs don’t have the recruiting, money and resources Michigan does. That being said, everything Mike said is 100% correct, and I feel stupid for ever having any faith in Jim Harbaugh. If Michigan actually cared about their great history and their fans, the athletic department will get their heads out of their asses and bring a winning coach here.

They haven’t won the B1G in 15 years. Haven’t finished in the Top 5 since ‘99. Only 1/2 National Title in 70 years.
Michigan has only ever had 11 or more wins five (5) times in history. This is exactly what they historically have been post WWII, a 9.5 win a year program.
Now they’ve done all of that and then some. Even became the 4th team to ever finish 15-0.

I just want someone who knows hockey on 97.1. Hearing anyone try to talk about it on this station makes me cringe so hard. And they are now coming back up. It started with the 2018 draft and is continuing with yzerman. This station covers Detroit sports. Red wings have easily the most storied franchise yet no one employed there knows a lick about hockey.
It’s difficult to talk or even bring interest to the redwings because they’re so bad. It’s going to be another long year. I agree tho, they really do need an “hockey expert” to talk more NHL instead of wojo just doing his stupid “big game” every damn time.

But can you really blame him? He's a perfect example of the Boys Club culture at Michigan. As a coach in Bitchigan but a buckeye fan I can tell you what their biggest problem is. The state of high school football in Michigan from top to bottom is awfully slow and dreadful to watch. Want proof. Watch our 8 state finals games then pick any other state outside of Alaska and watch their finals. That paints by he really picture. Our state is stuck in the 50’s
