"I wouldn't exactly call that song catchy" he says to many, many Australians watching this who instantly started singing it the moment we heard the words Banana's in Pyjamas.
It's mandatory, we must sing along 😊
Lol. Why is that so true
I know I definitely started singing!
yep, i did that too
Yer lol. Bananas were always great ❤
As someone else said The Bananas were good but "Round the twist" will blow your mind.
ROUND THE TWIST! Definitely gotta watch it, Ryan!
First two seasons yes, the next two lost it a little.
Absolutely!
Have you ever, ever felt like this?
Like strange things are happening
"how can you make kids watch this nightmare?! its so traumatising!"
US kids: literally crying, hiding under desks while their classmates get mowed down by guns
Oh dear, contaminated minds of some Americans..glad Aussie kids can still have the innocence of a childhood....
My favourite character was Rat in the hat.
Wow, you have to go dark 💀
Or even simpler, compared with the violent cartons from usa in those days.
REALLY apreciate the honest reactions; they are challenging.
Ryan should look up Andy Griffiths books for kids Maybe a starter"the Day My Bum Went Psycho i" PS: Bum = "butt" in US
Bananas rule….they were great! Whole generations of kids watched these..
It’s amazing how Americans are so sensitive over stuff we just go..meh over! Dunno how America would cope with Humphrey the Bear…or Mr Squiggle…. Australian kids are tough!😊
oh poop, you're old like me
O yes bring back Mr squiggles
I loved how grumpy Chalkboard was all the time. The picture reveal at the end was always amazing.
@@jessicaswinbourn.320 my favourite was Bill the Steam Shovel!
Hurry up hurry up hurry up. Upside down Miss Jane. Oh the mind playing tricks again.
Given all of the horrors in the USA, I cannot understand how you can possibly be afraid of innocent cartoon characters. They are extremely popular in Australia and educational for children. Its NOT Trumps in pyjamas carrying automatics in one hand and a bible in the other.
Lol, that's a bit rough.
@@amadd5641 No it ain't.
I'm not American but as an Austrian (not Australian), I find the visuals unsettling, as these blue-striped pyjamas look exactly like the Holocaust uniforms that the prisoners had to wear in concentration camps. The whole stairs thing also doesn't help...
@@SatieSatie
The parents or the children absolutely never saw any connection to how you viewed it. I accept that’s what you saw, but I’ve never ever heard it expressed that way ever until just now. To us Australians and our children it was harmless wonderful adventurous fun, and nothing more 💕
@@bernadettelanders7306 Yeah, I'm sure there was no malintent behind it. I also don't think that the creators included any intentional Holocaust references in the show. The similarity was just striking to me. In Austria and Germany, you are constantly confronted with the Holocaust, starting in elementary school, as part of the "Wiederaufarbeitung".
Side note: The (historically not 100% accurate) book "The Boy in Striped Pyjamas" and its homonymous movie made the striped uniform more known internationally.
A few years ago, I sold tickets in a local theatre. When I sold the first 2 seats in row B, EVERYONE smiled, & a good half of them murmured, “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
be Un Australian not to lol
When my kids were watching Bananas in Pyjamas, it must have been a simpler, safer time because I never thought about it in the ways you do, Ryan. They were just a bunch (get it?) of friends playing around and having fun.
Saw what you did there.
It was an innocent kids show that was/is much loved by Aussie kids.
@@oakavon ... and their parents!
I think EU kids would be more scared to go outside in America than watch 2 bloody men dressed as bananas mucking about.
Mr Squiggle was the best by far. Miss Jane, steam shovel and the cranky blackboard.😂😂
Hurry up hurry up!!! Upside-down Miss Jane.
Time for a moon walk Miss Jane!
Don't forget Gus the snail.
"Ooh ooh, Miss Jane!' 😅😅
@@AurochhunterLooooved Gus! He was a mood, lol
It's okay Ryan, the teddy bears were in on the game and having fun too 😅
Sometimes you like to be catched. 😂
It's entirely consentual.
True. A kids game called Chasey, hence the Bananas were chasing Teddy Bears. When they got caught, they were It, then the Teddies would be chasing Bananas.😊
Yeah, Ryan seems to be kinda overreacting today. Take it easy mate
For multiple generations, especially the 90s and early 00s, this show has been a staple of kids tv in Australia.
there's been the cartoon from the show, with just the song, played earlier than 90s, plus Play School doing the song in 70s (I was born 73), using big ted and/or little ted and introducing banana toys, the cartoon came from that and was used in the show, plus a filler on ABC, I have family that are younger than me, so experienced it every generation lol
@@siryogiwan as I was born in 91, I'm not familiar with previous iterations.
That was the funniest Ryan reacts I have seen so far😂. When he said Bananas in Pyjamas with the Aussie pronunciation he sounded like an Oxford scholar😂😂
The Bananas lived next door to the Teddies, Amy, Lulu and Morgan, and their other neighbour, Rat in a Hat... who was deviously scheming.
Hahahaha "terrifying " that's bloody hilarious 😂
LOL it wasn’t always a cartoon, you must watch the show with adults in costumes! My kids just loved this show.
Yes, I remember that adults !
Seriously, this was a harmless, fun series that all my children loved, and so many other children. The game they play is called "Chasies". Didn't you play this as a child? How was it terrifying when the children in American schools are subjected to gun violence?
Bananas In Pyjamas started in the 60s as a song on Play School (the second clip you watched is from that show). It was a nonsensical song, as many children's songs are, but over the years they kept building on the B-in-P lore on Playschool. There were Zucchinis in Bikinis and Beetroots in Gumboots. Eventually they spun off into the 5-minute live action show you saw here, though scaled back to two bananas, three teddies (who were called Morgan, Amy and Lulu), and the mischievous Rat-In-A Hat. 90s Australian TV was wild. On that note, I join with all the other comments here - watch Round The Twist!
Oh yes do look at "round the twist" aimed at tweens I suppose
Mortified was good too. 😂
Yeah, I reckon that might be John from Play School singing the second clip??
My boy is now 11 but when he was a toddler we both loved watching Bananas In Pajamas and I'd always sing the intro song making up new words every time I did it. B1 & B2 were funny. Weird seeing the actual guys that were inside the costumes and hearing them sound like the characters.
Aussie bananas are huge and yes, they can kill you!😂😂😂
If the drop bears don’t get you first.
as aussie as it gets B1 an B2 rule
can-oath
Bananas in pajamas were big in the USA. They were even referenced in ER, Mark Green rang his young daughter and he mentioned he could hear the bananas in pajamas music playing in the background. Executives also had a big debate about giving them american accents when it was first released. It was decided they were talking with a banana accent and didnt need to change it.
It was harmless fun. I used to watch it with my kiddos and it was fun. I loved the song. My mother knitted my kids bananas in pyjamas for toys. They were just playing hide and seek with the teddy bears, for fun. Nothing nasty ever happened.
the new episodes are animated but the BEST ones are the unanimated
Haven't you ever heard of Hide n Seek - playing with your kids. These were so cool. We also had a song called Zucchinis in Bikinis. My kids loved them. ❤ Dont forget the fantastic Bluey comes from Australia. 😂
It was pretty big internationally in the late 80's- the 90's. One of our biggest exports before the Wiggles.
My kids loved this, it's a pre school show. This was huge, there was animated shows, real shows, books, toys, all of it.
You silly billy , the bananas are not adults but just characters playing chasey with teddies.
Yeah right bananas in pyjamas, spiders, snakes, emus. Our kids eat bananas, and throw the skins at the spiders 🕷️ 😂
I’m from the UK and I watched it with my grandchildren in the last few years and we enjoyed it, never thought it was scary .
I didn't realise how well I knew this until the song started and I was singing along with it😂 Funny how most Australian homes are single story so there's really no worry of having them descend onto you!. Must have been more resilient kids in Australia than the US.
As generations of Aussies know from a forerunner show called Play School; B1 & B2 were spawned by musicians who composed ditties for pre-schoolers. Some turned into new shows. The animated verdion came a generation later. You nailed it as pre Bluey's hot show!
Originally the Bananas were men in banana (complete with pyjamas) suits. B1 and B2 were their names. The bears have names and so do all the other characters. My kids and my grandkids have all watched it over the years because was on the National broadcaster (still is) and back then it was the only channel that really had children's programs.
And Round The Twist is also a must see - when it isn't spinning its own yarn, it's borrowing heavily from the antics of Paul Jennings (a somewhat prolific children's/teen author)
Laughing here ... that an American should use "scary" of any program for children by others' , given their (your) own cartoons etc.
It's a deliciously "scary" game that every Australian child knew and played irl.
Oh Ryan, our kids loved this show. It wasn’t scary at all. Just proves that today people take things way to seriously. At least we didn’t have woke stuff to listen to back then.
You need to find an episode, its a brilliant tv show
2:08 Yes, yes we watched Bananas in Pyjamas and it was my childhood. but also in its defence that is the 1992 version, there are less creepy versions but the song is the same.
It was a well-known kids' song (used on the iconic show, Play School) long before it became a TV show - that's where the older animations come from. And they were just playing chasies with the teddies; they're all good friends 😊
The guy who sings bananas in pajamers is from playschool his name is John Hamilton
John Hamblin
Oh! Ryan, the look on your face! B1 and B2 ( the two main Bananas-in-Pajamas) were huge pre 2000. They were part of an ABC (govt tv channel, a bit like a network version of PBS) very long running children's program called Play School. A host of Play School was John Hamble, whose double entendres are very wicked and funny. Welcome to Australian children's teev! ❤
The singer was John Hamblin. We called him “Silly John” because of his cheeky attitude. The other John was John Waters.
I’m only 2 minutes in & I’m laughing so hard. Why would anyone find the Bananas scary? 🤣🤣 Can’t wait for the rest of the video, I hope it’s as funny as the beginning🤞🏼…tbc…
Edit:Yep! It got more ridiculous😂
I think he missed the producer saying it got picked up by the US, hence why it sparked a bit of a memory✌🏼
90s Aussie kids shows were the best! also love The Ferals, Round the Twist and Mr Squiggle
B group vitamins are vitamins found in bananas, so that was used as names. The show was big in America at one stage and in England also among about a hundred countries. More professional animation was used in later episodes. When you joke that the bananas hunt down teddy bears they were friends playing a game.
The Bananas started on Play School an ABC kids show that has run forever. Then it was animated and then live action by people in suits. 😂 Very popular in Straya.
50 year old singing along to the song as you played the clip😂. The bananas originated on a children’s program, that had a lot of little sing a long songs called play school. It could be claimed that the Wiggles owe part of their success to play school in fact, as simple sing a long songs captivate toddlers and play school paved the way.
The bears have there own song ,Teddy bear's picnic.
There is a current cartoon that uses the original cast for voice. I loved it as my daughters nick name is Lulu and one of the teddies is Lulu.
"Ohhh LULU!"
That’s adorable 🥰
I’m Canadian and this was on when I was a kid!
If you liked Bananas in Pyjamas you should watch the Flowerpot men.🌻🌻
Bill and Ben! 🤗
@@jenniferharrison8915 Exactly!
If Ryan found Banana's in pyjama's "terrifying ", The flowerpot men, will probably give him nightmares 😅
@@suemontague3151 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Don’t forget Weeeed 😂🤣
I took my children aged 2 and 7 at the time to the shopping centre to meet the bananas, teddies and rat in a hat with their houses. They Arte now in their tgirties
Every Aussie in your comments, are singing Banana's in PJ's theme song. This was like crack for young minds. This & Play-School, early childhood, then we moved into Mr Squiggle. Then in the arvo's was Agro's cartoon connection. At night some family friendly Love Boat or Highway to Heaven. What a day of viewing. At around 2pm Grandma had to have her stories, Days of our live & General Hospital. Yes I'm an old boy.
agro is seriously a living legend! His costume is still around to this day.. albeit a bit dirty lol
@@juliedavis168 I've actually met Jamie Dunn on a couple of occasions. The voice & creator of Agro. He's a living legend.
My now 31 year old lived for this show and Thomas Tank Engine when he was a toddler
If this terrified you Ryan, you should check out a video on 80's and 90's Aussie kids shows.. It might explain a thing or two about us.
Wait until he sees Mulligrubs...
Heard an interview with an actor who was offered a role as one of the Bananas. He thought it sounded stupid so turned it down. He certainly lived to regret his decision!
the show was first shown on a children's program called play school which has been on air for over 55 years & still going strong
Are you thinking what I'm thinking B1? 😂😂
OMG childhood memory unlocked 😄I loved Bananas in Pyjamas when I was a kid, I even did a Bananas in Pyjamas dance routine for a mini talent show when I was 7. Good times. 🥰
My kids now 31 and 29 wore bananas in pyjamas ,pyjamas with the one and a two on the collars.
I loved John Hamblin, like I really loved him. Haha
John Hamblin was so good at slipping in unscripted double-meanings, which the parents loved and the kids missed completely.
Everyone loved naughty Uncle John❤😂
Barney the Dinosaur was the creepiest kids thing ever, not B1 And B2.
Best kids show ever, love the Bananas
As a Mum of little Aussie kids we used to watch this together when they were little (eldest is now 20, youngest is now almost 18) and they absolutely loved Bananas in Pyjamas! The would stand up when it came on and, on the spot, go down the stairs with the Bananas then they would chase me as I pretended to be one of the three teddy bears whenever the show came on. The squeals of excitement and laughter were/are priceless. We'd all sit down to watch and see what new adventures B1 and B2 would have that day. I loved the show and because I "simply had to play" with my children would go into the lounge room just before the show started and we would all start singing the theme song (as well as many other times as well). It was a fantastic show and definitely not "terrifying".
The apostrophe in bananas in your title is incorrect….
My grandchildren love the Bananas. The teddy bears were giggling….
Ryan are you for real 🤣🤣🤣
You should watch Round the Twist.
This is nothing!
Also the Bananas in PJS catching teddy bears unawares was more like a game of chase, tips, tag.
This statement brought to you by tree lovers
@@jasonsouth1652😂 absolutely
Have you ever? Ever felt like this?
@@troycunningham8645 have you heard the word about the bird and the spider?
Here's hoping he does, and the first episode he finds is "Whirling Derfish." (IYKYK)
One of the bananas used to live down the street from me. My mother knitted the 2 bananas in pajamas for my youngest child
Loved it! I was too old for the show when it came out, but my kids thoroughly enjoyed it. My favourite part was when Maggie the Magpie was in it so I could hear the magpie sounds :D
Imo I think ur reading too much into it 😂
Far Far too much lol.
Jase would love the Bananas in Pyjamas. He'd get it 😊❤
At least 3 generations of our family brought up on Bananas. The first one you played is the cartoon intro the the later "real life" series, but the 2nd one was on our beloved 'Play School"
Hahahaha bro just dissed my whole childhood
I loved this as a kid, I even had a pair of the pyjamas.
How funny I've been watching your channel for ages . Maybe a year. But I was one of the producers on one of the videos you reacted on called the Amazing 90s. It was the clip when people were being interviewed about them. And it has the Amazing 90s written in the corner. The world is so teeny tiny. Had to share as it was so funny seeing that while I was watching.
When my son was 2 or 3 years old he had Bananas in Pyjamas puzzles, soft toys, underwear and actual pyjamas. This show was a big hit with Aussie preschoolers 30 years ago.
It is NOT creepy! Watched it, we LOVED IT as kids!
It started on the ABC on Play School, and they are just playing Tag (or Tiggy, or Catch).
Unawares is just there because it rhymes with bears.
Also, we don't have bears, except me, and no banana in sleep wear is getting near me!
No, that was their names! Your name is Ryan, should I call you Bob? =)
Thank you for having a go at the CORRECT pronunciation of the show and its theme song, Ryan! Again, it's like
"Ban-AAH-nas in Pyj-AAH-mas".
Cheese and whiskers! Are you thinking what I'm thinking B1?
I loved the narnies in jarmies - when I was little it was just a clip on playschool - and the song had extra verses about zucchinis in bikinis and string beans in blue jeans too - it was such fun when the show came out, my kids loved it
I never seen someone so shook by b1 and b2
my 3 children grew up this cartoon they are well adjusted adults aged 40, 38&37
Bro I swear his brother and he are conspiring to react to the most mundane thing as a foreign mind-exploding phenomenon. 💥🤯
Ryan's face when that teddy was in a chokehold 😂 Wait until he finds out there was also "Zucchinis in Bikinis" 💀
...unfortunately They only featured in the Bananas in Pyjamas books!
I remember reading then in the doctors waiting room when I was a kid in the 90s.
Bananas in pyjamas are an icon. You mock us Ryan.😅
Wow the fact that Americans can find a childhood classic so scary and inappropriate for kids! I still sing the bananas theme song as a year 12 student!
My daughter, now 30, grew up watching Bananas in Pyjamas. It had just caught on to the UK. When on holiday in the UK, I was offered a lot of money by a mother who noticed my daughter’s Banana in Pyjamas backpack hanging off her stroller. We also bought a lot of other merch from the ABC shop at the time.
As a kid growing up with bananas and dr who, I always wished they merged the two 😂😂
But banana splits show was awesome
Oh Ryan you've made me laugh so hard. They're just playing chasey.
The LIVE show pre-dated the cartoon. A funny show. It was from the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) and post-dated other live shows from ABC, but pre-dated Bluey as a great, Aussie show.
Ryan, you kept stopping the music whilst I was singing along 😂
My kids were never scared of B1 & B2, they loved them 🍌🍌lol
B1 and B2 are twins
Leave the bananas alone lol 😂
The Bananas in Pyjamas started out as a book by Richard Tulloch. I actually got to meet him when he came to my Son’s primary school for a talk with the kids about 15 years ago.
Bananas in Pyjamas. Good old kids show. Watch the whole thing. It has rhyming, well spoken language, morals. The guy singing the original is John he was a host on Play School for many years
You think that's terrifying, you should see "The Mulligrubs" with the face, now THAT'S terrifying...
Hell yes! That's the scariest show!!!
ha ha Are you thinking what I'm thinking B1? - funniest reaction to Bananas in Pyjamas I've ever seen.
I‘m 100% sure this aired in Germany as well and I watched it as a kid
They are happy bananas😂
That would have to be the funniest thing I've ever seen. Very sensitive, Ryan. The first song was so bubbly. The kids were laughing. Great show.
You’ll never get that song out of your head now Ryan
Yes we watched the Bananas in Pyjamas as children of the 70's, along with Playschool. B1 and B2 were friends with the bears. They played games with them and were not scary.
Playschool had themes such as learning shapes, looking through windows, and story book telling.
We also watched Sesame Street from America.
Great childhood.
My children watched High Five, and The Wiggles to name a couple of shiws.
Not only did we watch this, we LOVED it! They were like rockstars for 3 year olds. I remember meeting them when I was little.
Lift off and round the twist are much creepier.
Yep.
Yep, the live action edition was shot on a fully air-conditioned set at the ABC Hobart Studios
