- Just before noon this sunny hot day, the band members gathered on Place du 14 Juillet, Andernos-les-Bains, France, July 28th, 2019, and an expectant audience, young and old, congregated, eagerly awaiting. Tuba Skinny here returns to their roots, a busking band without amplifiers or microphones. Sitting neatly on a little three legged folding stool in prime position, videographing the set was a true pleasure. Touring France July 2019, Tuba Skinny graced this little pleasant sea-side resort of Andernos-les-Bains on the famous Arcachon Bay west of Bordeaux with a three-day stop-over, before heading to Paris and their last performance. Happy to post the footage of the full 1st set in one-go, unedited. Enjoy! Buying two sets of their CD recordings was just a small token of our appreciation, nothing compared to all the great work Tuba Skinny does shower us with. Shaye Cohn, leader, cornet; Craig Flory, clarinet; Barnabus Jones, trombone; Erika Lewis, drums, vocals; Max Bien Kahn, guitar; Jason Lawrence, banjo; Todd Burdick, sousaphone. Videographed with a hand-held SONY HandyCam, FDR-AX100, in FH quality mode.
Okay, I'm hooked now. Watch everything I can that's TS. I'm a back story person, and would like to know more about the members. For example did any of them have previous "Day Jobs" , I'm always interested in how they got to where they are now. Solid group, just love them.

Craig Flory (clarinet virtuoso) has a long history in the Seattle experimental eclectic jazz scene. Starting in the 90's...kind of legendary there.

@@anodyne57 Craig is absolutely phenomenal he makes that clarinet speak. He proves that it has the same range and Mobility is the human voice. Indeed, his clarinet speaks clearly to us.

Nice to see Shaye smile so often, she is great to listen to, and to watch manage the band, and her sweet smile makes the experience even more perfect.

repeat; I think they are better when Erika is there with her Drum. a more solid Beat in the background than just the rhythm section provides.

OMG! Shea Cohn's horn work is sublime as is Erika Lewis plaintiff, beautifully phrased singing - along with the rest of The Tuba Skinny artists who all outdid themselves in this acoustic set, and that's saying a lot. Gorgeous bluesy numbers like "Please Squeeze Me' 18:06: intersperse inspired, bright pieces -- eg. "Messin' Around" 33:10!

I've watched and liked dozens of Tuba Skinny uploads. This is the first I've seen without the washboard. The guy's a great player, but with Erica's steady bass drum, and the bouncy guitar/tenor banjo strumming, I'm liking the less cluttered sound.
The French people were lucky to have them play there. Now I wish they would come to the San Francisco bay area. IMHO, they are the best of the best!

Seeing Shaye telling the audience in Andernos-les-Bains how much the band loved being back after ten years, seems very sincere and is heart-warming. @@CANDCJ yes, you can tell from the videos that the entire band is immensely skilled but wonderfully natural and lacking in ego. They seem to get so much fun out of playing (who wouldn't enjoy being able to play like they do?) and it is infectious!
They seem to have a wonderful relationship and Shaye directs everyone so skillfully and naturally, while playing like a dream herself!

They are great International performing ambassadors, from the French Quarter to the French country, and they just keep getting better. We finally get to hear Shaye talk and she is beautiful ! Thank you very much for this video. We are looking forward to them coming back to NOLA, and we will go down to see them when they come home.

If this is really unedited footage without mics, then Sony deserves praise for the camcorder, too. Amazing outdoor quality of both audio and video. Both so clean... Also, hard to believe that it was recorded handheld.
