- Trying to grow a 2000lb Giant Pumpkin - week-by-week series
EPISODE 1
Getting your soil sampled at a lab is an important step to get your nutrients in balance and being able to calculate exactly what you should add to the soil in the spring. So I collected some soil samples.
Pumpkins don't like cold weather so if you want to get a jump start on the season it's a good idea to have some kind of greenhouse. This one is constructed with 2x4s, PVC pipe, greenhouse plastic, screws, staples, duct tape, and zip-ties. It was time to get the old painters plastic off from Home Depot, and replace it with some real greenhouse plastic
If you want to grow a big pumpkin this year it's a good time to get started. Prepare a patch, get some good Atlantic Giant seeds, and watch some videos about how to grow them.

Nice to see you back! It would be cool if you added subtitles explaining what you're doing, like on Primitive Technology.
Thanks it's good to be back! That's a good idea - I'll do that
All that early season hard work paid off!
Thanks yes!
Welcome back, hope you have a better year!
Thank you! Me too!
Really like that trick of using duct tape to avoid tears in your plastic sheeting; definitely going to have to try that out. Good luck this year!
Thanks! It's a bit of a pain to do but goes pretty quickly.
I've been waiting for this video to drop. 3 seedlings sprouted. Gonna set up the patch myself soon m
I've been looking forward to posting it! Awesome! Good luck!
Hi Jaime
Great vids.
Have you ever done after growing season soil testing
To compare what has been used up ,depleted and do you regen your patches year after year or change out patches back and forth.
Thanks .
Hi David - thanks! No, recently I've just been doing them in the spring, but that would be interesting to do one in the fall this year. I only really have space for three patches, so I've been using them every season.
Hi, my name is Gail, I am going to be following your method here to a T
I am a member of Ohio Valley Giant pumpkin growers, this will be my first year seriously growing.
I am wondering what zone you are in?
I have about 4 excellent seeds across several successful genomes including Wolfe
I think I may be able to start seed sooner than you as I live in zone 6b
Like I said, I will be using almost identical methods that you used with exceptions to soil additives per my soul test
Never-mind - looks like 5b-6a?
No talking?
No but there's some captions
