My brother loved this game, when we went to a small arcade in a restaurant, they had 2 of these, as well as 2 Cruis'n World's. He would always go for the Hydro Thunder cabinets, while I went for the Cruis'n World cabinets.

Remember playing this a ton at a holiday spa arcade. Sega Rally, Outrun 2, Time Crisis (plus Crisis Zone), Ghost Squad... they even had the Star Wars arcade there at some point. Unfortunately, over the years less and less people showed up so they ended up selling their cabinets. A few years ago they still had Batman arcade and some snowmobile one, but last time I checked they had converted the room into kids' playroom with iWalls. There was another room where people used to line up (or get into fights) over PS1 games... Crash 3 was simply the best at the time. Not so many people wanted to play Hugo games... Now it's locked up tight with some cleaning equipment I presume. It's sad to see one's childhood go like that. But maybe there is a chance to open up a gaming cafe elsewhere... PS. The highest I ever placed was 3rd in Antarctica after discovering a few secrets. And I never knew how to do the turbo jump until now. Kudos to you.

It feels and looks different to Play the Arcade Version. Hydro thunder suffers from Audio compression compare the Dreamcast Version and Arcade Version side by side and you will notice.

How much $was this ? Me and my dad use to play each other when he would take me to the arcade just to race in this lol over and over again, it was great man after watching a new movie out at the mall and then racing. I would love to get 2 of these and relive my childhood favorite game all over again.
When we sold this one it was $1299, if we had one in now it would probably be $1499... these ones are a little bit problematic because it used a PC, and some kind of specialized hardware. Such a fun game though, it's worth keeping them up and running!
There were some touch screen games that used stripped down computers before this but this was the first kind of 'arcade quality' game that used it, that i'm aware of. Probably a few before it like F-15 ...
I'm not huge into MAME so I'm not sure it hasn't been emulated yet, but if it hasn't I'm sure that's probably why! I haven't had to try your hack yet :)
Justin Osborne I think it could be possible to emulate the game on a virtual pc. Many people have emulated arcade game that ran on pc's before. Hydro Thunder ran on a pc called Quantum3D QuickSliver ii.

Hydro Thunder is not Midway`s best. that award goes to Hydro`s sister game ARCTIC Thunder! Man, is that loads of fun if you ask me! It has a vibrating seat and blows air in your face! This doesn`t! So take that, Hydro Thunder!

One thing I notice is Time Crisis and sequels is just a shooting game with racing elements and a unique cover mechanic and Gunblade NY and L.A. Machineguns is a 2-player shooting game with time-limit. I think both Invasion and Johnny Nero copies Virtua Cop and Vampire Night than they copied Gunblade NY and Time Crisis.
Joe's Classic Video Games haha I figured. I have the big deluxe version of hydro thunder and about a month after I bought it all color except red was gone. The game certainly becomes a lot creepier racing through thunder park when it’s only red and black!
You can put an LCD in it but it's a lotttttt of work to get one that's the right dimensions because they're all widescreen. We did a cruis'n USA on our channel here that we swapped an LCD into the right way, you oughta check that out if you get time.
Joe's Classic Video Games will do. My buddy and I own a small arcade in Colorado, cruisin world was one the first ones we got. We made a lot of mistakes buying our first few arcades since we didn’t know what to look for, and we made the BIG mistake of not turning the game on. Well, luckily the game did turn on, but the setting switch was busted so the game couldn’t calibrate itself. That was a headache.
I've played many different games including the rock and extreme racing n64 and crusing usa and this one on xbox 360 the hurricane version and Tokyo drift as well in a Walmart

@@LyonsArcade No .. otherwise everything seems ok ... ;-) Don't get me wrong brother, since some posts below I read that you were assuming to replace the original monitor with some led or lcd tv ..., I advised instead to repair it, You probably already know, but in case, if you are interested, there is a tool once used by tv repairers, which serves to rejuvenate a crt, it does not repair them 100%, let's say that sometimes you can restore some cathodes quite decently a bit 'lazy. it costs nothing to try. That cabinet is very nice, a real shame not to give it the care it deserves, I think of the Midway that went bankrupt in 2009, a piece of American history that sadly left, and that cabinet is all that will remain, if it were mine, I would everything to bring it to complete operation, even replace the monitor, but with the identical one ..

It had some strange video hardware I think it gives them trouble. A guy recently found a way to hack around the video card, though so maybe soon.

this and a few other racing games were included on some midway arcade treasures disc for ps2. run that game in a ps2 emulator and youre good to go

I just replaced one a few weeks ago, it's an 8ohm speaker, they mention it in the manual in the parts section.

Make some comments about what you like about the game, not what you think isn't perfect.
+ForzaMotorsportManiac1984 And to answer your question, the monitor is actually too yellow, because the red and green guns are both working well, but the blue gun on the crt is weak, making the picture have not enough blue (which appears yellow).

What's the value of this game?
It's hard to say, depends on the condition. We rebuilt this one and it had been fully serviced, and we have a retail store, it sold for $1200.

Story: The game tells in three different stories in comic book form:
Space Wars: The human race is at war against the evil alien race, Sergeant Johnathan Nero must stop alien forces to rescue a Lieutenant and save the repulse beam cannon.
Curse of the Mummy King: Professor Johnathan Nero is on a meeting with the other Professor, Johnny tells the other Professor about the Eye of Kings and he tells the workers think it's a curse, Johnny then goes to Egypt and must tell one of the workers to stop mummies and a group of Anubis and to receive the jewel of Ra before they kill them.
Ghost Town: A Western village is under attack by Wild West and Indian zombies and ghosts, the mayor of the town must pay the price to Mercenary Johnathan Nero so he can clean up the evil forces of zombies and ghosts before they take over the town.
Gameplay: The game is a rail-shooter similar to other shooters like Vampire Night, where players shoot enemies and protect innocent hostiles, weapon pick-ups are hidden through rotating object for better firepower, and avoid enemies attacking players and a red indicator from one of the enemies that can damage Nero. One feature is where player can duel-weld both lightguns called "Guns of Fury", the other feature is "Adrealin' Rush", where meter fills up access this mode by having unlimited rockets by 15-seconds before it going back to standard firing. At the end of each comic, there is a boss encounter, which shoots a boss before it attacks the players if the attack meter decreases, there is also a sub-boss, which is a mini-boss that shoots before continuing the rest of each comic.

Don't get me wrong brother, since some posts below I read that you were assuming to replace the original monitor with some led or lcd tv ..., I advised instead to repair it,
You probably already know, but in case, if you are interested, there is a tool once used by tv repairers, which serves to rejuvenate a crt, it does not repair them 100%, let's say that sometimes you can restore some cathodes quite decently a bit 'lazy. it costs nothing to try.
That cabinet is very nice, a real shame not to give it the care it deserves, I think of the Midway that went bankrupt in 2009, a piece of American history that sadly left, and that cabinet is all that will remain, if it were mine, I would everything to bring it to complete operation, even replace the monitor, but with the identical one ..
