I worked at everyone's favorite brick and mortar music retailer when this released. I always thought it was a brilliant pedal and still love how it's unapologetic in what it does. In all sorts of ways It's like tasting a kaleidoscope. You don't ever forget the smell.
I have one and use it in very subtle modes occasionally, I find the more pronunced effect gets old pretty quick. Fun fact: This was the 100th Boss Pedal release. I also have the MO-2 Multi Overtone that was released at the same time and would argue it is truly underrated, very cool pedal.
I bought this pedal twice. It's one of my favorite for creating space and ambience. It got stolen and then I bought again. This video is an excellent demonstration of the pedal's versatility.
All I ever wanted from a pedal video, thanks dude. UA-cam is so full of high stimuli videos, this is exactly what I wanted to see. You showcase the pedals features so well just by experimenting and playing and leaving the rest up to the viewer
Man that pleasant on so many levels Just showcasing the pedal and its various features and letting the viewers form their own opinion…PERFECT Thank you!! 🙏
Nice sounds- this pedal has a signature of it some own that I only can remember because a nearly identical sound effect is used in Mario RPG from Super Nintendo days. Star world.. has the same sound. But this sounds like so many effects at once it is bewildering and I think when blended in to the right soup of more organic sounds would be a magical layer that is hard to pin down
Thanks! Definitely can hear the similarities. The characteristics of this pedal are truly unique. www.soundonsound.com/reviews/boss-te2-tera-echo Sound on sound has a cool article trying to break down this magical device.
By far, best demo I've seen of this pedal. It's incredible all the textures the Tera Echo can generates at the same time and you show that perfectly. Instant subscription! Greetings from Argentina! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

But when i was coming back here i was damn surprised what sounds can come just out of one single pedal.
In my GT-001. Just switching HSS pups makes some cool changes. I dig this effect. I still use the other delays simultaneously; this is something unto itself.
Chapeau bas, this is the only demo of this pedal on the entire internet to do it justice in terms of its versatility beyond the usual laser sounds. Especially the part with it being placed pre-gain was awesome, it's how I use it too. What sort of distortion/fuzz pedal did you use in that 'Fuzzy drone' part? It sounded very MBVish
Thanks so much for the nice the words! I’m grateful you liked it. I used the UA dream to distort it. Basically just cranked the pre on the pedal to drive into chaos! Cheers!
Thanks so much for the kind words! It means a lot. I’ve always wanted to try the avalanche run. How do you like it? I feel like the Tera echo and the run would pair perfectly. Cheers!
@@pedalgaze I really dig mine, its one of those that you can get truly lost in. I managed to score a cme limited black sparkle one so it looks as good as it sounds lol. And youre welcome!
This video renewed my interest in this ambient drone machine. One sound in particular that pops up on here, is the sound of metallic-like gears turning w/ various tempos fading in and out of the mix. This isn't your uncle's delay pedal. Extra pros? Ed O'Brian has this as a forever pedal on his board AND you can find these fairly cheap online. That a new color OR is it the lighting on the video which appears as a cream and gold color. Thank you! Wonderful demo dude!!!
That's awesome to hear! Also, that is a cool fact about the og Ed O'Brian having it on his board. Definitely one of my all-time favorite pedals! I don't think it's a new color. My lighting setup is very basic haha, just a lamp placed on my speaker so makes everything look warmer than it is. I'm stoked you liked the video! Means a lot. Keep on rocking and thanks for watching!
If there's one thing that's consistent about Boss pedals, it's that the EQ controls work. I'm seeing too many reviews of $150+ pedals where you see a hand onscreen turning knobs, but no change in tone nor effect.
I was looking for a cheap arpeggiator/synth to knob around with and solo over, but now I just don't know. This isn't just another delay pedal...maybe I need a new pedal. Solid video~
I don't get some of the hate for this pedal. It's very cool. It's not an always on type of unit, but has its place to create soundscape. It also sounds ideal for synth applications, too. I may eventually pick one up.
Totally. It really shines with the soundscape type effect. I think this is the kind of pedal that you have to adjust your playing to fit with the effect if that makes sense.
I play guitar in an Ambient Blues/ Rock band that also has a Native American Flute player and a Hand Drummer that uses a Vintage Moog Theremin. Some gigs I've only needed to bring my TE-2,my Blues Driver, and Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress to take the music into some amazing places. This is an outstanding pedal limited only by the imagination and skills of the user.
Does anyone know if the TE-2 has analog dry through (like the DD-3) or does it convert the dry signal to digital (like the PH-3)? BOSS being BOSS, this has been impossible to find a clear answer on.
Great question. I'm not sure. I've tried looking into it as well and couldn't find anything definitive. I'd assume if they didn't mention it in the manual then it doesn't but I'm not sure. I would try to contact boss directly.
Suggest using this effect in the DD-500 that has full control parameters rather than using this severely limitted pedal... The only reason Boss pulied this effect out the DD-500 was to squeeze it for more money...
The fact that you can do two Tera echo patches at the same time in the dd 500 is reason enough for me to grab one! I’m not super into menu diving but thinking that I need to make an exception for that powerhouse of a pedal! One thing that I love about the small form is how simplistic it is. I swear, if they have a fully controllable Tera echo stand-alone effect I’d get it in a heartbeat!
interesting. haven't tried either of those. I can say that this version of the Echo is my favorite out of the versions I've tried. There's something special in the standalone that I can't explain!
its still in production, its just prob the most underrated boss pedal so no one talks about it or has it. its also $155 new which is more then most boss pedal people want to pay.
It sounds like droplets of water, crickets... Great for creating ambient soundscapes for nature shows, or music that is the imagined sounds of nature. I'm not really a fan of the "droplet" sound, though. But I must say, the long delays on this pedal with the tone pulled down creates a lot of ambience, but the ambience stays out of the way of the guitar sound. That's cool.
definitely. Would be a great tool for sound design/soundtracks. I love the subtly of the tone all the way. It feels like a nice wash over your playing.
I bought the pedal a few days ago after viewing your video ! I just can't understand how you get to the "slippery sound" section .... please help, can't find the same settings :P
Thank you! I'm so grateful you liked the video. For the slippery drones part, you have to dial your feedback knob to around 90ish percent. It is a delicate dance between too little and too much. You'll know you have it when it starts to latch onto everything you play without going into crazy feedback/self oscillation. Then to get the waterfall like sounds, all I did was some palm muted tremolo picking. What's cool about the drones is that they slowly start to darken over time creating these dark looming drones. I left one going overnight and it sounded so cool! Let me know if this helps you. Happy exploring!
Thanks for your detailed answer. I start to have a lot of fun with this one ! With those sweet drones and also in a more classic solo way. Thank you again !
Nice demo. You could have gone a little longer into each texture, but it's already a good sample of what this pedal is capable of. It is worth tmentioning the effect sound is dynamic responsive how soft or hard you hit the strings affects the amount of effect output.
Thank you! I'll keep that in mind for future videos. Yes the dynamics are a huge part of the sound and one of the reasons why I love the pedal so much.
This pedal is fantastic, love it too. I consider it powerful according to what you connect it to. And it is for those who appreciate experimenting and knob tweaking. One can reach exquisite and unique textures given time and proper adjustment. Just like you demonstrated.

Boss rules, they will always be number one in my book.
I’ve been trying to make this pedal sound good/work for me for a while. Not sure if I’m happy now I know it’s possible to make it sound great or really disappointed in myself. Either way nice music.
Don't feel bad about yourself. Writing quality music is difficult for just abiut everyone. The fact is that if this reviewer played the same music into an Afterneath, Slö or any other modulated delay, it would have sounded just as great. The key is coming up with the music. These pedals are fun, and Boss is a great company with quality products. But if you don't play music that is compelling, you will probably blame the pedal.
Thanks for the nice words. I think it really depends on how you approach the pedal and the style of music you're making. For me, I felt I needed to play music that fit the pedal first and not the other way around. It's all about exploration and figuring out what is right for you and your music. Sometimes pedals don't work with what we are going for and that is ok. Happy exploring and best of luck.

Hi there !!! Fantastic video !!! Did u use any looper or additional pedal in the Slippery Drones and Hoverboards parts??? Greetings fom Barcelona !!! Cheers !!! ❤❤❤
Hey! Thanks so much! I'm so stoked you liked the video. For the Slippery Drones/Hoverboards that was just my guitar. You can build ambient pads fairly quickly with the feedback cranked to 90 percent. One of my favorite parts of the pedal. Hello from Oakland, California!
good question! It's not listed on the official manual but I was looking online and found that it's listed as 700ms in the dd-200 so I'd use that as a frame of reference.
I think Boss was somehow ahead of the game in making an ambient wash pedal in a single stop box, but they need a V2 that would allow you to control the creaky mod tones. Those sounds just get to be too much
It would be rad if they released a compact v2. I know you can get more functionality out of the dd200 and dd500 but I personally love messing around with this one the best. Maybe add some glitchy stuff. I swear I had a sound where it modulated the time setting but couldn't replicate it for the video.

Sometimes pedals don't work with what we are going for and that is ok. Happy exploring and best of luck.
OOoooH KeV.!!! 😮i Was Soo Close to Selling This Peddle as i dont do a lot of ambient work !!! BUT ... After Hearing your Demo ,,, its Going NOWHERE !!!🤨👍
I Use Loads of Fx peddles as i use Hardware Synths which are pretty Vacant Without 😉Thanks again Bro.😊jaffa jenkins jams= my channel😉🍄
Heck ya! Great to hear! Really happy you enjoyed it. I bet it sounds killer with synths. Love your channel as well! I'm listening to love comes quickly. Great work! Keep on making videos!
@@pedalgaze Thanks a Mill.Kev.🤗👍you might enjoy the Cover of ""No Quater"" i did a few weeks back 😉💥🇨🇮
Knobs has reincarnated??? jk, hope you make more pedal demos like this
🫣 ha Thanks! definitely took inspiration! Got some videos in books!
what's the distortion you're using?
howdy! I'm using the ua dream 65 for the distortion. I'm cranking the pre and it gets pretty distorted in cool sounding way.
@@pedalgaze 🙏
Hi there !!! Fantastic video !!! Did u use any looper or additional pedal in the Slippery Drones and Hoverboards parts???
Greetings fom Barcelona !!! Cheers !!! ❤❤❤
Hey! Thanks so much! I'm so stoked you liked the video. For the Slippery Drones/Hoverboards that was just my guitar. You can build ambient pads fairly quickly with the feedback cranked to 90 percent. One of my favorite parts of the pedal. Hello from Oakland, California!
@@pedalgaze Thanks a lot!! Don't stop making videos dude 😉😉😉
you're welcome! Definitely have more coming! Thanks again@@SuperMogwai78
nice. sorry if i missed a deet but how long can this go via delay time? thanks for the vid
good question!
I swear I had a sound where it modulated the time setting but couldn't replicate it for the video.
great for emo music.
It’s nice, but it’s too bright and clean for me. Now if it had an 8bit switch………
That would be rad. This gives me an idea....
Should have just named it Diablo
Seems like a one trick pony.
Agree
Any music people know like this. Please no Brian Eno
pedalgaze.bandcamp.com/track/happy-ends here's some droney stuff that wrote a while ago.
Sounds ugly imho
I have this pedal and totally love it.
