These W126 and W124 Mercs will probably go down in history as the best built Mercedes of my generation (born in the 80's). It unfortunate Mercedes cars of today have no where near the quality or attention to detail that these older Mercs did. A truly beautiful timeless classic you have there.
i'd say that was due to the economy and the market in general rather than people. Sacco, on the other hand, no matter how i may admire him, also drew the w210. i mean the overall shape is fine, and i even like the rear, but that front end makes me want to go and have a rest after seeing it because i can't bear the sadness.
Amazing car. Amazing glass sunroof! This is the pinnacle of any Mercedes collection. I have a 1984 280SE, 1983 300GD, 1989 260E and always aspire to the 500 or 560 SEC. But I need to drive my vehicles like a "daily".. so I prefer the simplicity of the lower engine size, lesser specified models for reliability. Again - yours is an amazing vehicle! congrats
I delivered one of these in the 90's a few days later i drove a 3 litre 911 turbo the Merc would have smoked it i was shocked as i'm a huge 911 fan. Nice car you have there i've always called them the gentleman's dragster in fond remembrance of that monumental torque i remember.
My dad owned a bunch of benzes in the 80s! I remember this 1 clearly in 86 he had the 87 always a year or 2 ahead! NOW I KNOW WHERE THE MONEY CAME FROM!

I remember my brother's 500sel euro benz, it would hit almost 160 mph on Loop 410 San Antone Texas. What a joy to drive. And my brother enjoyed my W123 300D Turbo Diesel. The best most reliable Benz cars, in my opinion. The last generation of true old Mercedes Beliefs.
I would love to snag a 300 CD some day, but they are really hitting the big bucks now. More and more $$$ is needed to buy a nice one. 5 years ago there were a ton of them available for peanuts.

That is an amazing car! Apart from the dull headlight and a tiny bit of work on the seats, I would say it is perfect. Cars just don't last that long in the UK because they put rock salt on the roads in the winter. I have a 1994 Mini automatic in my garage and it stays in there all winter.
that is just beautiful. I can appreciate your car because my 89 560sel freight trained me around for about 12 yeaars. i had the euro lights and white side markers too. the car was just so amazing. I hauled ass from macon GA to Lawton OK one Christmas eve average about 87 mph. then later discovered a cheapo sears front shock that was way under spec. The car didn't care, it powered on straight and true with all the speed and comfort you could ask for. I was determined to get it reasonably up to spec. I had the hydraulic/pneumatic rear suspension almost completely replaced. did a rebuild on the monster transmission. but the hvac siezed, the sunroof crapped out, and an 03 bmw 540 seduced me. I have regretted selling my SEL ever since.
Brody Oxnard Sometimes they are meant to move in and out of our lives. I had this 560SEC for one year and had to sell when I moved overseas. Now that I am back I have a 500SEC Euro grey market import and it is THE ONE. That I'm sure of. My 560SEC ownership prepared me for my 500SEC ownership.
lol, well I sold it. Only because I was moving overseas for a two year stint. But I do not regret it since I learned a lot and will buy another one upon my return. Best car I ever owned.
Matt, what a beauty! Obviously you take pride in caring for your w126. I am not sure if you a member on benzworld or not, but I have shared my experiences with the "rub". My suspension is also lowered. I had to replace my AMG front springs with Eibach's. Four nib spring hats and heavy duty bump stops on the shocks cured this. Maybe it will do the same for you. Again, great w126. I like the color-interior and exterior.

Stefan Mayr I particularly like those wheels and the car drove butter smooth all the way up to 120 mph. However I've sold this vehicle. I now own a 1985 grey market import 500 SEC. Lowe miles, black on black, I Purchased from the original owner. I have some videos on my channel if you want to check it out.
This remains the best S class of all time in my opinion, it's such a classic. My dad had the early 90's model 91 to be exact. His though was a 500SEL. I also remember testing this severally with the generation immediately after this that launched the S 600 the big v boot s class called the beast then. After these two generations Merc went down hill with the S class till this latest generation in my opinion.
I rented the W222 for a week, S500 (sedan not coupe). It was great but frankly I didn't fall in love with it. It had very little charm, character or personality

Thanks. I actually did sell that SEC when I moved overseas after 9 months of ownership. However, I came back in late 2018 and purchased a 1-owner 500 SEC. Great vehicle that I am still sorting. Currently 113k miles. Mercedes up through the 90's made some amazing vehicles that will last a lifetime.

The styling of this car was years ahead of it's time. One of the all time classics of any era and any manufacturer. I would love to own one but unfortunately they never come up for sale in New Zealand. I've never even seen one on the road here. Honestly man, any money you put in to that car is absolutely worth it. It wasn't until the E39 5 Series BMWs (which came out a decade later) that any car came close to nailing it like Merc did with this car. And Roadhouse is one of the best of the 80's movies, the director bought two of these for filming because (do we need to give spoiler alerts for 80's movies?) he knew he was going to wreck one at the end. That is mitigated somewhat by the fact Swayze kept the other one as his daily driver in real life for years afterwards.

Wow i remember when my uncles bought a few of these cars back in the 80s.. I was 16 when this machine came out.. Never will i forget the 1st time i drove it to school LMAO I HAD ALL THE HOOCHIES ON MY SHIT!! DAM I LOVE AND MISS THE 80S MAN SUCH FUN AMAZING TIMES!!
Gorgeous paint. Trying to get my hands on a SEL asap before the prices go up. I can reupholster and swap myself, so im not too worried about getting one with a need for mild restoration, but the paint is what makes the prices jump- black on black being the most expensive. Old people blue are the cheapest at the moment. I'd be okay with getting that and repainting it a menacing shade of silver, but cant deal with the blue seats. The seats are something I'd really rather not have to deal with. Im glad I picked up some ideas from the interchangeable features in your car. I'll consider the w221 wood steering wheel with controls, w140 moon roof, and w210 auto dimming mirror

My Chevy Malibu fell apart. Total crap. :-) That SEC has a new owner. I sold it when I moved to China. But i moved back a year later and purchased a lovely 500 SEC with even lower miles. I have videos on it.

I myself have spent atleast 3yrs in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Tianjin & Jilin and finally leeryft to come back to US in 2017. I could actually write a book of Special things i witnessed & lived through with Triad Members and especially going to many huge dinners @ expensive chinese restaurants and even was invited a few times to go with some high level Military & Government aristocrats to "Chinese Gentlemen Clubs" where entry to these special chinese lady clubs cost you ($1000) just to get a huge singing drinking room (where many chinese girls can even walk around naked while they sit in your lap) They actually love to take us Americans around their special places & hangouts that are usually exclusive to chinese business tycoons..and i was even told that by one of these friends of mine'Os Executive Assistant. They love to show off what their lives are like and been to some of these chinese business tycoons huge expensive Villas complete with a 12car garage with every concievable luxury sports cars & sedans and a couple of Range Rovers & Porche Caman. And the guy said.."go aheadf o take one of these out for a drive!" My eyes get big and my blood starts rushing..however tempting it was to think of piloting one his Bently's or Porche GTR 911 or even his Gorgeous Panamera was even a sweet thought. I just casually remarked..maybe one of these awesome days when you have enough spare time to take me around in one of these babies?
Btw i have a gourgeous 1987 Mercedes 560SEL in Crystal Silver Mist w/DarkBlue/Grey leather throughout and my engine only has clocked approx 122,000 miles on it here in my home. Everything runs & works as it should.
Very Nice. I have a 2009 SL550 tuxedo black w/sand interior; 19" AMG 5 star sports pckge. Car has 13,760 miles on it. The car is clean as I have taken off the plastic and metal panels underneath for cleaning as well as the undercarriage along with the plastic wheel wells. I do that once a year. The powder coated silver MB logo'd calipers get cleaned thoroughly more often due to all the brake dust along with the 5 star AMG rims inside and out...it really makes the car "pop". Garage kept and in the summer months due to the south Texas heat and humidity the garage is air conditioned. All rubber seals get conditioned once a year from the hood(USA) or bonnet(UK) to the interior, convertible seals, and trunk. Im thinking of upgrading the ECU with a RENNTECH ECU upgrade for a modest hp & torque increase; just a little north of 400hp & 400ft lbs.

Wow i remember when my uncles bought a few of these cars back in the 80s.. I was 16 when this machine came out.. Never will i forget the 1st time i drove it to school LMAO I HAD ALL THE HOOCHIES ON MY SHIT!! DAM I LOVE AND MISS THE 80S MAN SUCH FUN AMAZING TIMES!!

Gorgeous paint. Trying to get my hands on a SEL asap before the prices go up. I can reupholster and swap myself, so im not too worried about getting one with a need for mild restoration, but the paint is what makes the prices jump- black on black being the most expensive. Old people blue are the cheapest at the moment. I'd be okay with getting that and repainting it a menacing shade of silver, but cant deal with the blue seats. The seats are something I'd really rather not have to deal with. Im glad I picked up some ideas from the interchangeable features in your car. I'll consider the w221 wood steering wheel with controls, w140 moon roof, and w210 auto dimming mirror

An older utube vide. Hope matt still has the Benz. Would love to see how she is today. An absolutely stunning glorious machine...Would love to see it in person. Trouble is I'm over the pond in the UK. Mercedes just seem to make them like this anymore. Owner of a cls and had many Mercedes before. I'll think I'll just dump a load of cash into a proper classic benz and have the experience like yourself...Are Malibu reliable we don't have them in the uk. Cls is my daily 15k per annum and shitty weather...
My Chevy Malibu fell apart. Total crap. :-) That SEC has a new owner. I sold it when I moved to China. But i moved back a year later and purchased a lovely 500 SEC with even lower miles. I have videos on it.

Very nice car and color. One of the most beautiful Mercs of all time. Replace those cheap-o white turn signals to original oranges and it will look MUCH nicer and original. Cheers.
Those are actually German clear versions so not cheap. But I do agree that the amber/orange looks nicer.

I myself have spent atleast 3yrs in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Tianjin & Jilin and finally leeryft to come back to US in 2017. I could actually write a book of Special things i witnessed & lived through with Triad Members and especially going to many huge dinners @ expensive chinese restaurants and even was invited a few times to go with some high level Military & Government aristocrats to "Chinese Gentlemen Clubs" where entry to these special chinese lady clubs cost you ($1000) just to get a huge singing drinking room (where many chinese girls can even walk around naked while they sit in your lap)
They actually love to take us Americans around their special places & hangouts that are usually exclusive to chinese business tycoons..and i was even told that by one of these friends of mine'Os Executive Assistant. They love to show off what their lives are like and been to some of these chinese business tycoons huge expensive Villas complete with a 12car garage with every concievable luxury sports cars & sedans and a couple of Range Rovers & Porche Caman. And the guy said.."go aheadf o take one of these out for a drive!" My eyes get big and my blood starts rushing..however tempting it was to think of piloting one his Bently's or Porche GTR 911 or even his Gorgeous Panamera was even a sweet thought. I just casually remarked..maybe one of these awesome days when you have enough spare time to take me around in one of these babies?
Btw i have a gourgeous 1987 Mercedes 560SEL in Crystal Silver Mist w/DarkBlue/Grey leather throughout and my engine only has clocked approx 122,000 miles on it here in my home. Everything runs & works as it should.
When I started this video the first thing that went my mind was: "Wow! This is the Patrick Sawyze Road House car!"

Very Nice. I have a 2009 SL550 tuxedo black w/sand interior; 19" AMG 5 star sports pckge. Car has 13,760 miles on it. The car is clean as I have taken off the plastic and metal panels underneath for cleaning as well as the undercarriage along with the plastic wheel wells. I do that once a year. The powder coated silver MB logo'd calipers get cleaned thoroughly more often due to all the brake dust along with the 5 star AMG rims inside and out...it really makes the car "pop". Garage kept and in the summer months due to the south Texas heat and humidity the garage is air conditioned. All rubber seals get conditioned once a year from the hood(USA) or bonnet(UK) to the interior, convertible seals, and trunk. Im thinking of upgrading the ECU with a RENNTECH ECU upgrade for a modest hp & torque increase; just a little north of 400hp & 400ft lbs.

Prior owner did it and said it wasn't all that bad of a mod.
Highly recommended, let me tell you. The normal w126 steering wheels are just ginormous!
