We got a black cat at an adoption event that you (Jackson) were helping promote. I remember you telling my soon to be wife and I about how excited you were we were adopting a black cat. The first time I saw my black cat was at night and she was a darker black against the outdoor landscape so I noticed the "void". She was a stray cat coming for some kitty kibble I put out for the possums. She was friendly but reserved. We became pals and I adopted her and she ruled the household. I think she had another breed sort of brindle whatever that is called because one of her toes was many colored and she had white hairs throughout the fur on her body. She was not always friendly and developed a habit later in her life of ripping up sheets of paper when she was frustrated! All cats are individuals so I imagine she was unique!

All the black cats I've interacted with are the sweetest. Once a outdoor barn cat that didn't even know me was already rubbing up against me and asking for head pats. Later a sweet girl at our cat shelter named candy, she was so playful even though she was blind. It took a while for her and her sister to be adopted, luckily they are both now with a loving family.

Witches in the new colonys and England were not burned. Lot's of other really bad stuff.
Now for an un-proven idea. Because so many black cats were destroyed is it possible that only the friendliest, least demonic were allowed to survive??

So true! I baby sat some kids not too long ago and their black cat ,Schpooky, was so sweet and loving! As soon as I sat down, the cat was rubbing against my legs and purring and wanting love and attention. Also meowing to me. I was meowing back of course lol. When I picked her up, she never tried to get down after a few seconds like my 3 young cats at home do. She just let me hold her until I was done. Sweetest little thing! She's so funny and dorky sometimes, and I love it when we curl up and nap together! I'm glad you had Inara with you to save your life, just the way Aomine kept me going! @@liannna212 I understand that myself as i have ocd and so every vet and even a few days before, visit i worry and obsess they are going to find something with my 8 yr old pit mix who saved my life as she gave me a reason to live and get help instead of jumping off of something. I feel like i'm forever in her debt as a result but i know in my heart i already "repaid her" as I rescued her from a non kill shelter. she was returned after 10months with the previous family because of how fearful she was. It took me 2 or 3 months before the shelter trainer let me take her home as she was SO fearful of people. I had to give Daphne my shirt to sleep on and go to the shelter many days in a row to toss her treats and just sit with her etc for 2 or 3 months before she was comfortable enough with me to get the ok by the trainer. another person had tried the same thing i did but she didn't warm up to them at all before i tried. They engraved her name on everything before getting the bond sadly. Its interesting how the "underdogs" aka black cats and pitbulls etc are the ones who save lives in ways you don't hear about on the news to me personally.

My black cat is my little angel. She is painfully shy, has some anxiety issues, clumsy. But she’s got this heart of gold that really makes me believe she came in to my life when I needed her most.
Fun story about her, we adopted her during the time I was being diagnosed with Sjögren’s syndrome (Lupus’s sister disease). I was constantly in pain and my joints were horribly inflamed. I was only about 26 at the time. I became so depressed because of how badly I physically felt. We went to my local shelter since we had just moved out from my mom’s home. She had a scab on her head from a fall of her’s. She was hiding the whole time under this bench. She only came out for me and my wife. The shelter ladies were saying this is our sign. So we scooped her up and have never been happier. Now back to my illness, I was having an awful flare up. Enough where I couldn’t even eat breakfast. I just sat there crying. Then all of a sudden she popped up from hiding. She had been with us for a month by that point. So she was still getting use to the home and only came out to eat at night. It was the 1st time she ever came out during the day. She kept head butting me to pet her. So I did. Little by little I fought through the pain and was finally able to eat. Then she went back to hide in her usual spot.
After that day, she came out more and more. She comforts me on my worst days. Sometimes even laying on my really inflamed legs when the flare up is unbearable and I can’t walk. Her little body feels so nice on my legs during those times. I think she knows it too. She even showed my other 2 kitties to do the same. They stretch out on my legs and chest the most. She literally had no idea that if it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t have even bothered to try anymore. I’m doing better now since then. I take medicine that helps keep things from happening so often. Obviously my bad days still occur on occasion. But my sweet loaf Shadow (I love calling her sweet bread or sweet loaf), is always right there to make me feel better. I like to think she knows that I’m in pain and wants to do what she can to help me. Even if it’s just taking her afternoon nap on my swollen joints. She truly is my special little angel and I thank whatever power it was that delivered this angel when I needed her most. She’s still painfully shy and still hides all the time (we think she was abused in her past, she shows lots of signs of this). But more and more, I see her growing and opening up. She plays with her siblings more often. She squeaks when it’s time for meals! She has her favorite spots that she will push her siblings out of the way for! She’s become a little diva at times! She’s getting older and I recently changed her food to elderly kitty food. She really loves it! But best believe I’m going to shower her in all the love I can while she lives out her golden years. She is my reason to keep fighting and I can’t thank her enough for that special gift she left me.
Sorry this was so long! But I couldn’t help but want to share how much she truly means to me! 🖤🐈‍⬛🖤

I could see your story. I got diagnosed with breastcancer last March. Got two cats Luna(16) and Loes (13). The first two months of the chemo was the worst. Felt so terrible, nasau and couldent eat. Luna was laying in my bed along with Loes. Luna was snorring and purring so loudly a calmness came over me. My first two cats were black, I was instantly drawn to them at the Rehoming centre. The lady that was walking round with me said afterwards it’s a shame there aren’t more people like me because black cats are the hardest to rehome. I specifically wanted older cats. The female blackie was six very petite a sleek absolutely gorgeous. Very verbal the older gentleman was approximately 10 or possibly older, and had been in the Rehoming centre for several years. I took one look at Gem and knew he was going home with me. I didn’t change their names. Unfortunately Gem was much older than first thought and he had undiagnosed kidney failure. The first week both cats slept most of the time. The vet wanted me to put Gem through several stressful tests and I refused. I made sure he was on medication that would support his kidneys but I wanted this old man to be loved, to eat anything he wanted and to know that his last few months he was loved, warm and safe. He was my first cat to pass away in my arms and I was devastated at the time but I least his last months where happy. Blackie lived to the ripe old age of 18.

Those kitties hit the jackpot when they came home with you! Thank you for rescuing older cats that were overlooked, even knowing that Gem had little time left and would break your heart. You are a wonderful person!
My cat Spaz had diabetes and at 18 he had renal failure. When he was diagnosed with diabetes, 4 years before he passed, the vet told me to take him home, say our goodbyes, and bring him back for euthanasia. WHAT! I wanted to kick that guy. I told him my aunt has diabetes and we aren't putting her down. He said it's different, because my cat would hate me if I gave him shots and I wouldn't be able to do it anyway.
      Wrong!
I found a much better vet. Spaz knew the medicine helped, so he would go to the fridge and meow when it was time for his insulin shot (very tiny needle btw). I even learned how to test his blood by poking a blood vessel in his ear where it's less sensitive.
When he had renal failure the vet showed me how to give him infusions of lactated Ringers solution, basically kitty dialysis. Spaz trusted me even though it hurt and never complained. When he couldn't stand up one day, I took him to the vet one last time to help him over the rainbow bridge. It was one week after my mom died. 😭

One night I woke up to him standing on my chest, yowling in my face loudly. When I was awake, then I heard why he was upset. My 4 year old son was in the next room, choking and turning blue!
He had been sick for a few days, and he had thrown up and was choking, unable to breathe. If Spaz hadn't woken me up, I don't think my son would have survived.
I flipped him over and hit him on the back and cleared his airway, then rushed him to the ER. He had aspirated vomit into his lungs and he spent a couple of days at the hospital to recover, but he still developed pneumonia and became very sick.
I had Spaz for 18 years, and after he died I didn't think I could ever love another cat as much as I loved Spaz, he was one in a million.
Spaz died in 2000, and 20 years later, December 2020, I had just experienced the saddest, loneliest Xmas ever. Everything was shut down because of COVID, so I didn't bother to celebrate Xmas that year. SIX of the neighbors in my small community of about 300 people died from COVID between December 2020 and February 2021. It was a bad time... until the event we experienced two days after Xmas 2020. I heard a noise on the porch, looked out to see the most beautiful tuxedo kitten looking at me through the glass front door, the doppelganger of Spaz who I loved so much.
I thought I was hallucinating, and called my adult son to come look outside and tell me who he sees on our porch...
"MOM! OMG, it's SPAZ! How is that possible?!"
This kitten of about 4-5 months old looks exactly like Spaz did when I brought him home, 38 years ago when I was only 22 years old!
My son and I live off-grid on a 20 acre property on a mountain, nearest neighbor is 2 miles away, and we don't get stray pets way out here (they wouldn't survive the wild predators).
I put a picture of this beautiful little kitty on our local Facebook page to see if anyone lost him (while praying they didn't, because I was in love with him and he bonded with me right away).
A lady who lives 8 miles from me recognized him immediately as one of a litter of 3 feral kittens who were eating up all her koi fish! She told me to PLEASE keep him inside, and DON'T bring him back to her neighborhood! His sister who also ate her koi fish had already been adopted by another neighbor who promised to keep her indoors, too. The 3rd kitten went missing, sadly.
I don't know how Houdini survived his eight mile hike over here, or how he knew we _needed_ him, but he sure chose the right home. He not only looks exactly like Spaz, he has a very funny, silly personality like him, too. I named him after the famous magician, Houdini, because he's magical, and "dressed" in a tux like a real magician. He made my sad loneliness disappear!

I just adopted my little spooky-floof Ichabod (Ichy-Boy as I’ve been calling him) earlier this month. I went to a free adoption event at one of my local shelters and I almost missed him. Had I not left my water bottle in their kitten room and went back for it, I wouldn’t have noticed him hiding in one of the upper kennels. He’s such a loving boy, very chatty, and wicked smart. He was a stray before and was pretty wary of new people, but he’s made great strides in the month that I’ve had him. I absolutely adore him and I love having him as my little buddy 🤗🐈‍⬛

Thank you for talking about black cats! They are amazing! My fluffy Mishka( a gentle giant of a cat) has passed away recently from a heart condition. Never scratched, never hissed, just liked to cuddle. He was a handsome black fluffy. Now we have another black fluffy boy named Vlad and he is the cutest and sweetest little boy. I love all cats but black ones hold a special place in my heart.

As a previous black cat owner sadly he passed away. He was a feisty one not much for cuddles or being picked up. He was a "I'll come to you when I want your attention or require something." type of cat. Compared to my grey and white cat where she will let me do just about anything to her. I never felt like he brought me bad luck infact I wanted him specifically because he was a black cat. My heart still hurts to this day years later after I lost him because he was my first cat. I love him so much.

Oh, I totally understand. I lost my beloved all white cat daughter, Sox, in 2002. She had cancer, and had to be out to sleep. She was 17, and I still miss her. My new girl Babette, a Siamese mix, came coincidentally to me in 2018, at four months old. She's now four years old. I love her as much, but differently. I'll always love and miss my beloved Sox, but Babette has helped heal the sting of losing her🐱❤️🤗

I'll have to watch this with our Luna, the black cat who appeared at our ranch in the wilderness where the closest neighbor is a mile away. Her tail was freshly severed, my son found the other half a few days later. She likely narrowly escaped a predator as we have bobcat, lynx, pumas, wolves, and coyote out here.
My son got her to trust him enough to bring her indoors, and she has bonded with him so that she won't allow the other 2 cats to be in the same room with him. She tolerates me, as long as I don't pick her up.
She's never wanted to go back outside!
To make this more mysterious, my son's beloved cat, Puff, passed away 3 months prior to Luna's arrival and he was devastated. Puff was solid black with long fur. My son snipped off the long fur from the tip of Puff's tail and kept it in a little box his grandmother gave him. I wanted to get him another kitty, but he wasn't ready. Then Luna showed up, injured, scared, and desperately needing a protector... missing the end of her tail!

One of the nicest cats that I ever worked with was a black cat. Whenever he was boarded at the vet’s he would always reach out his tiny little paws from cage and brush up against its bars so people would pet him. He was such a sweet cat, and he would even poke his paws down whenever I or another person would go to feed/pet the cats in the cages below him. And try to touch them onto our shirts or heads.

The other thing I've heard is that there are very few completely black cats - most of them have a few white hairs or patches. This may be the case in the u.k. where black cats were hunted and killed so completely that totally black cats became extinct. I have no idea where I heard these two points. So they may not be reliable pieces of information. Linda Peace

I have a different story. I was only a baby when this event happened, but it's had a tremendous impact more than 50 years later in my family and how we take special precautions towards keeping our cats safe and indoors (for those family members that have indoor/outdoor cats) on Halloween. Before I was born, my dad adopted a beautiful black cat, Ahab, whom he loved dearly. Ahab was extremely intelligent, was taught numerous tricks, was very affectionate - and a beloved member of a young family in New York City. He had an interesting quirk though, in an inability to meow - his meow was silent. My parents lived in a neighborhood of people, who in that generation of that culture, was highly superstitious. Tragically Ahab disappeared Halloween. We have always presumed the worst and each of us are struck sick with horror of what we presumed happened. So Happy Halloween everyone, but please keep a special watch out for our beloved cats, even more so, the black ones.

The end shows good and positive associations of the black cat! In Britain you give one to a bride for good luck. In Scotland it’s a good omen for one to show up in your doorway, in Japan the most suitable young women are single and live with a black cat-then there’s Bastet of Egypt! A goddess, and it was punishable by death to harm a black cat. This wasn’t in the video but there’s a wall painting in Egypt that depicts the pharaoh and the queen at a meal-the queen is feeding a cat a bit of fish under the table🖤
I know what you mean though. Just thinking of anyone harming a cat just because it’s a cat makes me very angry. People are sadly able to extend their discriminatory views even to the beautiful creation of nature/animals. Assigning morality to animals is absolutely maddening. People will vilify vultures just because they eat carrion when they are simply natures garbage collectors. Look what happens to us when we vilify cats-the plague! Talk about reaping what you sow-my goodness.

At my husband's and my first house (a rental so no pets), there was a feral black cat on the property who we named Phantom because it reminded us of the phantom of the opera. Phantom started bringing kittens, so we called her Phanny and though I tried to gain her trust, she never warmed up to me. We enrolled her in the community cat program (a trap, neuter, vaccinate, and release program funded by the city), and when we drive by that property to this day, we sometimes still see Phanny there chasing squirrels and living her best outdoor cat life. (PS two of her kittens became ours!)

My first black cat just passed away yesterday, on Halloween. We still have our 2 year old little black kitty boy at home, but oh boy do I miss her. She was my first cat, and I will never forget her. Black cats are so beautiful and are the best luck you will ever have.

Love my black kitty! She was rescued with the rest of the litter who had been abandoned by their mother. She and her mates were taken in by a friend of mine. Their brother didn't survive 😢, but she and her sister were nursed back to health and became my owners over 13 years ago. I called her Lucy, because you can't call a girl cat Lucifer, but she's the sweetest cat, talkative, affectionate, snuggly. Even the vets love her.

My husband and I adopted a 2 year old black kitty back in late March. We named her, Sophia. She was a bit of a handful in the beginning because shortly after adopting her she was diagnosed with ORS and had to be re-spayed. Since then she has been truly settling in her new home. She LOVES to play fetch with her springy toys which so funny. Never had a cat that played fetch with their toys. She is so shiny and sleek. I don't mind calling her our Halloween kitty. She is a beautiful cat!

I got my beautiful Wednesday back in 2016 at an animal shelter. They said she was around 3 years old at the time. For the first couple years I had her she was very shy and hid a lot, but I left her be and checked on her and slowly she started to come to me for quick bouts of attention. The first time she came and curled up in my lap I cried. I couldn’t believe it. She is so small and soft and precious. She knows when I’m upset and comes and taps me and gives me head boops. When I pet her and she’s not done with the love she taps my face. My sister in law calls her Therapy Cat. Lol I absolutely adore her.

My godson Camões, who is black, was rescued by my local cat shelter, from the streets when he was only 3 months, was adopted 2 weeks ago. He is now 2 years old and the shelter people had lost hope that he would ever be adopted, also because he has only one eye. I never gave up hope because he is such a lovely and adorable cat. We were all in tears when this wonderful lady chose him. Now he lives with 3 other cats, one of them also black. It's been two weeks and he is getting used to his new home and new family, but progressing really well.

I adopted a black kitten in summer (he is my first ever black cat, I have had calicos, torties, tabbys) and I was specifically looking for a black cat (also have a 6-year-old calico). He is just amazing - very outgoing personality (even with strangers, he goes up to them, gives them a sniff and a moment later he is in their lap, contently purring away as if he owns every person in the world), loves to play a lot (he loves to play fetch and when he wants to play, he brings me a ball and taps my leg until I notice and throw the ball, only for him to retrieve it and have me throw it again), his litter box manners are good (we have two boxes because they never even once used the third one and they actually pee in one and poop in the other one) and he is sooo affectionate - he loves cuddles and when he has been sleeping somewhere and wakes up, he comes to me as if he hasn't seen me for ages - rubbing his face against me, purring, demands to be picked up to rub his face against mine until he is satisfied. I don't believe in the superstitions of black cats bringing bad luck because ever since we brought him home, my life has improved so much (because when you adopt a kitten, not only do you get extra responsibility but free entertainment and unconditional love). I love both my cats a lot and I can't imagine my life without them (in our family cats are equal family members, much like children - we provide the best we can and expect nothing in return). Please people, stop being racists and adopt black cats. If you have a black cat (or maybe even more than just one) - cherish them.

When she was a kitten I found her having some sort of spooky ritual with 2 other blackies, all three of them sitting in a circle just staring at each other. I miss my little Looney Tunes 😢

I am a guy who only had big dogs for the first 4 decades of his life-a Puli that I grew-up with from age 2 till age 18-and then labs-and when my daughter was 3 we adopted a half Maine Coon half Bengal Leopard who was just an amazing cat. (She recently died at age 19) Having adopted another cat and having had a cat for the past 21 years, there’s still so much I don’t/didn’t know about them that I just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us out here on the inter webs. I REALLY appreciate your work! 👍🏼❤️

I absolutely love what you said about people either embracing not being able to understand-seeing the mystery as beauty and bringing joy to life through the energy of mystery…or people are resentful because they are not able to understand.
The whole problem with the human race is the manic desire to pin down every mystery on a butterfly board under glass to look at and measure-and own.
Some humans don’t need to feel superior-that they “understand” everything…they see beauty in mystery and true companionship in a fellow independent being, they embrace the mystery of life.

We just adopted a 7 month old black female cat. She had been at the shelter for over 2 months and no one had taken her out of the cage to even consider her. She was a little scared at first, but our newly adopted 6 month old big boy tiger marked tabby patted her on the head and back. In 3 days, they became best friends who always lie touching each and have so much fun together. Plus, they are so very sweet to their owners.
Yes, the big male tabby was fixed a month ago and the black female was fixed a week ago.

I have always wanted a cat of my own and Jackson taught me a lot about them before I decided to adopt one. I always wanted a black one because I know how they're often rejected, but I also think they're beautiful. My boy Zorro and I have been family for a bit over a year now and I am so grateful to have him be in my life. He is a tuxedo cat: white chest and belly and of course regal white gloves. He also has a white mustache. He has pink paw pads with adorable black and pink toes. He is so loveable, playful, curious, and nothing like the stereotypes often associated with cats. I'm a university student, and while he can get in the way of doing schoolwork, I am much less lonely with him around and couldn't ask for a better roommate.

Our black cat was a rescue and he’s definitely been good luck! He was found in an alley in Longmont and was tiny when we got him. He’s black, but it’s like you can still see tabby stripes still. I can honestly say that it was the luckiest 17 years of my life, and except for falling over him (note to self: Black cat + black rug = invisible kitty!), he was the greatest thing I've ever had in my life. My black cat probably saved our lives. She was out on the screen porch when we got home from an errand, perched atop a chair, yelling her head off, which was unlike her, refined, ladylike self. I walked over to check on her and smelled the gas leak. The utility company got here in about 5 minutes, confirmed the leak, and fixed it. Thank you, dear Pepper, from us and from our 3 cats adopted after you.

My two black cats are littermates, graduates of a TNR program, and were bonded adult males when I adopted them from a shelter specializing in hard-to-adopt cats. Max was the friendliest, most cheerful, bouncy cat you could imagine. (He has asthma now and is very depressed about it, poor sweetie!) Milo started his time with me very reserved and aloof, but he has loosened up considerably and is the king of cuddles now. He is the house monitor, informing me when it's breakfast time and also, with a single claw drawn across my bare arm, sending me to bed in the evening.

Great video, Jackson. We love our 2 black cats, CJ and Fernando. Their coats are the glossiest and they are very hardy guys. Of course, we also have a big orange tabby, a small Russian blue and a flame-point Siamese. We didn't have much choice in the matter of which color to pick because a litter of kittens wandered up to our door one cold night and that is what we got. I found the Siamese kitty in my trap at a TNR event. Luck of the draw I guess. I know...we have a clowder. ha

I'm more of a dog person. However, one day I was at an animal shelter with a friend who was looking for a kitten he had seen on the shelter's website. We were looking in the cat condos trying to locate the kitten. I opened one of the top condos (because I couldn't see inside) and this black cat came out and stood on my shoulder. Welp, guess I got a cat now.
She completely ruined me, too. After a little over a month of healthy eating, that thin furred animal turned into this absolutely gorgeous, long haired and affectionate baby. I still love my dogs but now I have two black cats as well.

I just ended up with a black kitten before Halloween, in sort of a magical way. I've been accidentally going back and forth about thoughts on luck because I live in a predominantly Hispanic area, where black cats are shunned and dumped often, because of superstition. As soon as I heard that I found out other cultures have the opposite belief, so I've been plainly raising this here cat better than I've raised any other. Wish me luck if I wish you luck? lol

Last year in January my uncle got really sick and I became really depressed, one night I was sleeping in the living room and heard a tiny little cry outside my kitchen door. It was her, the love of my life my little Selina, the most adorable, cuddly black short haired kitty. I lived in apartments at the time so she wasn't allowed to "be an indoor cat" but I started feeding her and gave her a little bed right outside our door, and she never left. Couple months later in July we moved and got a home and she became officially my pet, my little indoor cat, I love her so much and was so glad she came into my life, all she wants are cuddles and at the time I really needed that and now I hope that she is as happy as she makes me. My uncle also got better eventually but I felt she came at the right time to keep me company.

I started with a long haired white cat (flame point) and loved her dearly that when she passed away, I grieved for seven years and never thought I would get another cat again. Then this black/seal coat cat arrived in my life and my love and fascination for the golden eyed black cat started. I love them! They are so mysterious and for some reason I feel a deep connection to them. They are very special to me and I have heard that it is very lucky to have a black cat in your house. They are also considered to be a protector against ill will and the unseen malevolent spirit world.
I only wish we could have had him for a very long time, but with deep sorrow , he left us last year.😭. I know I can never replace him in my heart, but I believe he wanted us to look for another one not exactly like him but I know it’s meant to be. I feel it in my whole being. She is a beautiful black baby with white bib, chest, belly and socks, (like an armor) ready to protect her new home and family.
And she knows we love her so much!❤
Thank you for this video and allowing me to tell my story about my beloved cats. 🥰😻
