  • What we think drives our happiness often doesn’t. So what does? Drawing on her research and classes with Naomi Bagdonas, Stanford GSB General Atlantic Professor Jennifer Aaker, PhD ’95, discusses the importance of humor in defining your purpose. We assume happiness is stable; that it’s an endpoint to achieve or a goal to chase. It’s not. Recent research suggests that the meaning of happiness changes about every 5 or 10 years, raising the question - if happiness is not an optimal life goal, how might we rethink our approach to life and work?
Dr. Jennifer Aaker’s research spans time, money, and happiness and she teaches in many of Stanford’s Executive Education programs as well as MBA electives. She received the Distinguished Teaching Award, Citibank Best Teacher Award, Robbins Best Teacher Award and both the Spence and Jones Faculty Scholar Awards. Aaker also co-authored the award-winning book, The Dragonfly Effect. This Stanford GSB Fall Reunion/Alumni Weekend faculty presentation was recorded on October 27, 2017.
