@@Ghostleeee David was an addict, just like Maine. All he had to do was lighten up on the chrome a bit, but like any addiction it's not so easy. Plus David was a stupid kid who thought he was special. Again like a lot of young addicts, they feel like the downsides haven't hit them yet and they start to feel special or invincible, like it can't happen to them. David actually was special to an extent, he had a high tolerance to Chrome and he pushed it too far. Ego, addiction and the folly of youth was David's downfall. It's a tale as old as time, just with transhumanism instead of drugs.
SPOILERS, I guess... In a way, it's also a weird "found family" trope, specially with David's relationship with Maine, which to me looked like older-brother or father-figure to David. Also, It's been implied and shown that hospitals and medics take advantage of patients who don't have insurance, by harvesting their organs and/or stealing their spare parts. I think the same thing happened to David's mom.
i actually really liked that they kinda kept that as mystery. if the show was written like any other show, the doctor would never have said she was gonna be fine, they would just say she died at first, or, they would have it be obvious that they harvested her organs. to me most likely case is that someone needed an organ fast and they found whoever would match. theres a reason why David wasnt allowed to visit. even after she died.
What I took happen to his mom is they pretended she had recoverable injuries (for her insurance coverage), and "treated" her long enough for her insurance check to clear. Essentially she was dead, or basically dead by the time she reached the hospital, but they pretended she wasn't to double dip her insurance coverage (treatment fees and funeral fees).
For me its Lucy. Not only did she have to go against her own fear and dread of Arasaka, but had to go beyond 'ride or die' in order to protect David. She didnt stop being part of the crew out of self preservation, in fact what she had been doing on the side was probably more dangerous. It was probably all the more challenging because she had to stay out of David's jobs and trust that he would be unharmed, which as we have seen is something that really heavily concerns her and would have probably wanted to back him up or run away from it all with him. More than anything though I think for me it was that look on her face, in her eyes, when shes desperately calling david from the car after he ran to help Maine. Frantic yet powerless to do anything, and undoubtedly feeling that terrible gut wrenching drop inside you when you cant find out if the person you love is okay or not... just felt like a very real and visceral reaction you dont often see.
I'm still hoping that all the "nights together" would result in Lucy being (maybe unaware of it) pregnant - so that eventually, we can see (in either an anime, game or other story sequel) their child - and having to hunt/protect the child (or maybe - playing it...?) being the start of some new, interesting story. I mean - an offspring to a father with exceptional resilience to cyberware & mommy who's an exceptional netrunner (with some potential "lost knowledge" from the dark net) ought to be a good candidate for the likes of other "great heroes" of the CP universe, no...?
@@EyelessWolf_ yep its one of those traits thats both a blessing and a curse... trying so hard to protect someone that it ultimately ends up leading to their death. very fitting for a story as tragic as edgerunners
My two favorite characters of the show is Rebecca and Adam Smasher. Outside of what was said about Rebecca, the reason I love Adam Smasher is that he was built up great. They built him up as a unstoppable force in Night City before even being shown, and virtually nothing is stopping him. We had David who was being pushed to his limits more and more, while getting new cyberwear. Then Adam just shows he's second class. While it sucks what happened to Rebecca, it can't be denied that Adam the ultimate boss.
Unlike the game, which nerfed him pretty hard, the anime plays him straight as he's described in the source material. You only fight Adam when you want that character KILLED OFF.
They could’ve done Rebecca better. That was a dumb death. Personally, I think the whole Adam thing was just silly…David has this craaaaazy new tech - much wow - for so many episodes, and poof, last episode he vests owned in the easiest way with the lamest of battles. The last two episodes sank the show for me, the ridiculous meter just went off the charts.
@@Chuck8541 you do realize he was fighting throughout the last 2 episodes and all those fighting happened in 1 day he never got any rest he was pushing his limit already trying to get to Arasaka by the time he was facing smasher he was already running on fumes he knew he can't win so he just made sure that Lucy was safe before he accepted his death.
@@Chuck8541 Adam smasher was a "reality check" for David. The only reason he got away for so long was because the corpos let him. As soon as David became a problem for the corpos they squashed him like a bug. It was the perfect end for the series. Since the start, there was this hope that you could live a free happy life away from the corporate shadow. But this ending showed that there are only 3 paths for a human in cyberpunk: Being a corporate Slave, being a nobody with no future, or being dead.
@@Chuck8541 About Rebecca, most deaths are dumb. Most soldiers in conflicts have dumb deaths. In the world wars, here are the things most likely to end our lives as soldiers: - sickness due to lack of sanitation, having to cook and eat rats due to lack of supply - artillery shells - bullets that weren't even aimed at you - mustard gas, an invisible gas that shuts down your lungs in a few minutes - land-mines - air-strikes - grenades from people that didn't even see you - tanks driving on top of the hole you are hiding in - infection from a non-lethal wound you got - infection on your legs due to the trenches having a foot of contaminated water at all times Most deaths are dumb. There's no such a thing as honorable death.
They tie the game in in ways that i think fit nicely. Adam Smasher as a cameo , Rogue as a cameo, and then David as a cameo in the game as a nice little touch. Just small little " Hey, this is a thing in a shared universe".
Downloaded the game right after I finished the anime, for the first time. Immediately went on a war path, picked up Rebecca's Guts, David's Jacket, and then some legendary monowire that looked like Lucy's. Knocked out the necessary sidequests for the nomad + judy ending, and then showed Adam Smasher what the canon ending should have been. Rebecca would have wanted it that way.
English was definitely the way this Anime was meant to be watched. The amount of the slang lost in the Japanese dub killed me when I tried to check it out. Its literally the reverse of how these things usually go.
Rebecca's VA English Dub > JP Dub. Just compare the door opening sequence with each other, it just works so well with English because it sounds so natural for someone to talk let alone greet someone in Night City, the JP cutesy aesthetic that they usually do for the VA just doesn't work for the batshit insane that is ride or die rebecca.
@@NeXbi then are you approaching it as a prequel to Cyberpunk 2077 or as an anime because that makes a huge difference for the "natural" dub. I played 2077 before watching this so it was like just an animated version of 2077. I put JP Dub on and was turned off immediately by watching the typical loli voice acting for Rebecca versus the actual batshit crazy Eng dub plus a lot of the lingo of 2077 is lost in JP Dub too. JP Dub honestly (as a long time anime watcher) comes off as incredibly cringey.
I was shocked and so pleasantly (?) surprised at how satisfying the ending managed to be. A lot of the reason it hit so hard for me is bc we rarely get well-made modern tragedy. The ending is sad, for sure, but it's cathartic, not depressing. Too often stories go for tragedy and end up in motiveless grimdark which can get exhausting. This felt rounded out and significant and worthwhile despite (and I'd even say, because of) how tragic it was, not just truncated for shock value. Heartwrenching but also complete and meaningful. Pretty masterful imo. I'm gonna try and find a quote, I'll put it here if I do I once heard a lecture where someone said that the great appeal of tragedy is to see terrible things happen to people you're supposed to empathize with and see yourself in, and that the catharsis comes from seeing someone's life go horribly wrong and still have the author hold your hand and tell you 'this story mattered. even though it had a sad ending it still mattered. even if you don't succeed your attempts matter.' Grimdark tells you that the world sucks and nothing you do matters, well-written tragedy tells you that sometimes the world sucks but everything you do matters so so much, your story is still worth telling even if you never achieve that happy ending or if you lose it along the way. People have inherent value and their stories deserve to be told no matter if they turn out okay or not and in a reality that has no concept of 'fair' that shit just hits good man!!! feels good!!!!! it's COMFORTING (
Thing I thought was great about this series was the 'Let you down' music video that acts as a self contained prequel story to the series itself. After watching that, I knew what I was in for. Then I heard Franz Ferdinand as the intro theme and was immediately thrown back into the 2000s. Always a good mix
To me I like the fact the theme of this show is power at a cost. Both David and Maine upgraded their body to become strong but in the end it consumed them, yes both of them went in a bang like they wanted to but it just show what cyber enhanchments can do to you. I also like how well the relationship between David and Lucy have developed, they never stalled the audience and we got what we wanted and even though it had a tragic ending it still was a great thing to see.
Yeah, they show pretty well at how much of a disadvantage you are without good cyberware. And how difficult that makes it to give up the power once you have it even if it actively destroys you.
Cyberpunk was a TT RPG and believe me, the last version of it (Cyberpunk RED) is in 2045 (so 32 years before Edgerunners) and there are already tons of fashion implants and body modifications like chemskin (for blue skin) or techhair (like her too). That's why you can have flashy skin and hair colors.
Honestly the best thing about Becca is while she has the Loli framework... She's a legit adult woman. Like there is no mix up. This is not a child being "aged up" She's a badass short stack with occasional harsh angles and lines and behavior wise while wild and chaotic, she's not the problematic portrayal, she's the bar standard
Just watched the series 2 weeks ago on Netflix and wow did Studio Trigger blow me away from the story, it's characters and visuals. Not to mention the English dub for the show has the GOAT himself Giancarlo Esposito (Gus Fring, Moff Gideon) as Faraday and quite the surprise to see Giancarlo in an Anime. Now Cyberpunk has become the 7th Netflix anime project to utilized celebrities after _Flavors of Youth_ (Evan Rachel Wood, Ross Butler), _Rilakkuma & Kaoru_ (Lana Condor), _Ultraman (2019)_ (Josh Hutcherson), _Yasuke_ (Lakeith Stanfield, Ming-Na Wen, etc.), _Eden_ (David Tennant, Rosario Dawson, Neil Patrick Harris, Ruby Rose Turner), and _Bright: Samurai Soul_ (Simu Liu). On top of that the recording Studio that did _Cyberpunk: Edgerunners_ is Salami Studios which previously did the English dubs for the following Anime: _MÄR, The Dragon Dentist, Kekkaishi_ and especially _Monster._
Really great video and the rant about the mold of stereotypes was really great. In a world like that having rules against smaller bodytypes or something that is against the punk style is pretty limiting (yes it is called cyber PUNK but still). I agree that Rebecca and Falco broke some of those stereotypes and I thought they were really great as a whole especially Rebecca. I haven't watched the anime with english dub but japanese dub had really strong voice acting. Would recommend. Btw I would be interested to see what furries would look like in a cyberpunk world.
Batman Beyond had furries in its cyberpunk world, the splicers. It was neat because besides villians and mooks there were ordinary folks who spliced up their DNA with animals.
I've played the game for more than 200+ hours since the day it came out. Still pisses me off that I can't duel wield, but the game was really fun, even with limitations. also it was great hearing my favorite song from the game used so much in the show.
Internet overdramatizes "The loli must stay" story. There was no argument between the studios, just a healthy questioning, discussion of the idea and demonstration of her role. Rafael Jaki, the executive producer of the anime told Skill Up in an interview that Rebecca is his favorite character in the story.
Likely due to the internet's freaking out over the inclusion of Loli type characters in anime and v-tuber media as of recent. Anime fans consider it a win after so much of Twitter tried to demonize the character type.
@@Yunglex313 rightfully so i would say in regards for demonizing. Anime has a huge problem with sexualization of minors and, sadly, far too many petite characters are just "we couldn't put an actual child here, so have a totally-not-total-child". It's creepy and normalizes pedophilia.
@@Yunglex313 The explicit sexualisation of lolis when they're by all intents and purposes children, is fucking creepy and should be called out. I'm just happy that Reb isn't explicitly sexualised, and fits in with Night City and her implied backstory as either a sex worker or one who liberated sex workers.
I always played it on PC which is why I didn't mind the launch all that much. My first playthrough starting day one didn't have any game breaking bugs. And it was still a dark bittersweet story. Especially the corpo ending. Game has only gotten better and edgerunners just shows that Night City is a great world ripe with amazing stories to be told.
There was a point where during watching the show, I got GitS vibes. Not from the world, or the characters, but by the fact it's about a cast of characters so tightly knit in a world build around fake things. That the bond is deeply real feeling. No episode of Edgerunners is going to match "Poker Face" in terms of odd but interesting story telling, but I'd say this "I ain't good at playing just friends", a line Rebecca says, does as much character building as some anime take a month to do. It might not reach the heights of the best, but it swung hard enough to get there that it beat most just with that attempt.
Enjoyed the anime so much, that i brought the game and installed mods to get becca eye style as tribute. Though I'm tempted to hold off on playing more as apparently big expansion and updates are coming soon.
Everyone's been swallowed up by Night City but few escaped. Still I was sad 😥. Overall it was a very good show. It reminds me more of Redline than any works from Studio Trigger.
Edgerunners will be talked about for years, decades from now. its an instant classic. it also saved the game - V getting David's jacket canonically in-game is VERY CATHARTIC after the depression from the anime.
I never thought that after watching so much anime another one will come and make a place in my top 10 list, seriously this was something truly special, you guys did an amazing job, now if you'll excuse me I need to go cry to I really want to stay at your house for the god knows'th time
@@Khann_2102 I know but I feel like you guys are just blinded by the hype(your pfp) or just got caught in the moment. But sure your opinion your taste.
@@Khann_2102 yea and? Still proves my point. Just saying that's good you like it. But ppl making seem like it's the only anime to do a cyberpunk settings or sad ending making it number 1 of anime is a bit overkill. Especially if they claim they watched 100 anime which I bet is false.
Having played all the tabletop roleplaying game versions of Cyberpunk, and playing the game, and just being a cyberpunk genre guy in general, I loved the anime. It gets so much accurate from the games. Even the maps of Night City are accurate. And the characters are chef’s kiss. However, there’s a nagging feeling in my mind that most miss the message. In the cyberpunk genre, there are no happy endings. Ever. You’re either content, or dead. You have to be. In a world like that, you have to be vigilant always. How can you be happy while having to hold the pistol at your waist 24/7? You live in constant pain under a dystopian world, how would you live happily? Its dog eat dog, and its also our future
Ye, it's kinda annoying seeing comments like "If X did this they could've lived happily/escaped" when there's so many factors outside of the other's control tha ultimately lead to the ending or would just catch up to the characters in the long term. Way I see it, once Kiwi set up David with Faraday in Ep 7, well before the Cyberpsychosis and before Lucy got caught, the ending was set in stone, but even somehow escaping all that is ultimately just a matter of time before Arasaka finds David. It was really a no way out situation for David and he went out with a bang.
The whole Rebecca thing is blown away out of proportion. CDPR were hesitant to add ANY new characters to the script but quickly agreed when they saw Trigger's concept for her.
It has been confirmed that the word "loli" was never used in discussions and cdpr was morr concerned by her; and Lucy's cuter designs; but were convinced after seeing them animated
I was impressed by the visuals and the music. The story was fairly straightforward but I didn't mind that. This was a short and sweet smash and grab job of an anime and that's awesome.
I was a staunch defender of the game when it came out loving the world and atmosphere it brought. This anome really fleshes that out and dug the deep dive on cyber psychosis
@joceja23 Maybe you played male V or don't remember. Cherami Leigh knocked it out of the park in regards to emotion for female V. It can be easy to feel for V with the level of acting she put out.
Yeah Cyberpunk world is really messed up. I am gming a cyberpunk red game and strait up i dont want to run it for kids. The world can be dark and messed up.
I don't think you mentioned "This Fire" being used for the opening! Such a great track, and just old enough to drink, at least everywhere but the U.S.!
i've been holding off watching it because god damn i have so much to watch (including a made in abyss season 2 binge) and now i've finally got some time to sit down and enjoy
Looks like you got it right. There really is only 1 reason to replay Cyberpunk despite me finishing it 3 times (one per life path). And boy the vengeance was so satisfying that I reloaded the save just to blast Adam Smasher 5 more times. For Rebecca.
The suspension of consequences really does actually happen with adam smasher he's there for quite a few years with far more cybernetics including the one that drove the mc insane.
Mike also wrote about the differences between V and David and why V doesn't get cyberpsychosis(because ppl really wanted it as a mechanic). they treat cyberpsychosis as this wanting to push past a limit but hitting that wall and your brain breaking at trying to surpass your limits too much. David can handle it because he doesn't experience this "drive" to push past his limits and doesn't have much mental trauma and has a support structure through the crew and his mom. V on the other hand has potentially little cyberization until they get johnny in their head which apperently could take the edge off of Vs mind by propping it up with johnny's psyche who's already slightly mad plus all of the other characters they meet a long the story of the game who are there for them as well.
I've been watching your videos since the beginning! I love how well spoken you are and I'm continously coming back to see what's out or which anime to watch next. You introduced me to some of my favourite anime like Puella Magi Madoka Magica and one of my favourite movies Wolf Children. Thank you so much!
The thing about Rebecca's body type is... It makes sense for lolis to exist. This is a world where you can replace your body, piecemeal, with cybernetics enhancements, and eventually there would logically be a point where you borg out so much that you stunt your own growth because there simply isn't enough human body left to GROW as you age. And even besides that, if people can fully replace their bodies, you know DAMN WELL there'd be an underground market for sex workers in those kind of bodies, given the kind of completely immoral rich people that exist in the setting.
Can we give the Foley and Sound Design departments on this Anime like 9 Oscars/Emmys what ever. Jesus H Christmas they freaking murdered the aural atmosphere and it needs to be hyped up more.
I never got Cyberpunk at all because when it first came out I had this feeling that there would be issues at first. Personally I always wait at least a year before I get a newly released game because that's when most of the issues are worked out. Now that Cyberpunk is in a far better position I'm going to get it as soon as I'm able to.
This channel is so good. I think this anime was easily a bit over the average anime, not in a super deep way, just by pulling off a simple story wonderfully. In contrast, your review of shin sekai yori, another wonderful anime was also great, but in that case the action is a lot simpler, but the story is instead genuinely unique and clever.
What Cyberpunk Edgerunners gets right! Me: Uh, everything? 😅 Considering it revitalized the entire game (together with Patch 1.6) and brought in so many new players while also bringing back so many old players. I also saw the announcement a while back that CDPR stated that they had passed the 20 million units sold marker. Not sure if that was only Steam sales or everything combined (GOG digital, Steam digital, as well as the physical editions); but I'm very happy that CDPR kept working to get things right after the launch was rather rocky (mainly for consoles). On PC I had very minor issues but I definitely noticed that a lot of stuff felt missing and/or in an unfinished state (especially crafting). So here's hoping that the patches addressed the main issues and that 1.7 will fix the teleporting NCPD cops so that it's now much more realistic. But I'm glad so many people are now enjoying Night City as it definitely deserved a second chance imo. I also absolutely loved Edgerunners; even though it had a lot of depressing moments... But that's Night City for you. No "and they all lived happily ever after". 🙂 Still sad about how Rebecca ended up though. Would have liked her to have had a different ending; but what's done is done I guess. I wonder is CDPR will ever consider an Edgerunners 2 with a new crew. Probably not but you never know...
I disagree about what David had was a ticking timebomb. When I watched it, it seemed like we was immune to the timestop cybernetic, but it's only because he was getting greedy with the continued cybernetic upgrades which was his downfall.
Idk about that. He got sick after his first (6?) uses of the Sandevistan. It's true it's not what made him go cyberpsycho alone, but there were certainly side effects in the beginning and he was warned not to go overboard with it. And over time, his ability to use it repeatedly became fewer and shorter before exhibiting effects of cyberpsychosis.
He was always being tracked by Arasaka so he couldn't simply run or hide. Any emotional support he needed to counteract the psychosis/trama in his life was either getting killed (Mom, Maine) or being distant and secretive (Lucy). The set-up to capture Lucy and get David in the skeleton was being setup before David even exhibited severe Psychosis, Kiwi sets David up with Faraday in Ep.7 so you know she's talking with Faraday behind the crew's back. David definitely needed to restrain himself after a point, but he didnt care to live, just wanted to get Lucy out of the life after he thought she was going to leave him. He was doomed to die from a multitude of different ways and people's actions out of his control, even if he lightened up on the chrome.
Man, give Cyberpunk another try. I rode out the initial hype and downfall and played it earlier this year... The thing is amazing. It is like the RPGs come alive. You really feel that the creators loved the genre with all their hearts. PS: Love the anime, too. Great review, thanks! :)
I was never really interested in the Cyberpunk universe but since a lot of people were talking about the anime, I wanted to give it a try, not expecting to like it. And I'm happy to say I was so wrong. This anime left a huge impact on me and tbh it kinda destroyed me for a few days after I finished. Now I'm just binging all the content about it here on UA-cam because it was so great.
One of the best adaptations, got me playing the game again too. Love how closely tied they are, with locations, music, and a few characters. I thought Arcane was a better show, but it didn't make me want to play League.
I devoured the original Cyberpunk 2020 RPG manual as a late teenager. I always preferred sci-fi to fantasy and it was such a cool world to inhabit, when, up until the Matrix, western sci-fi didn't have the budget and prestige to be more than just a cheesy guilty pleasure. Halfway through the anime so far. It's great.
EdgeRunners is a win win, I love it and it made me buy the game. I was already hyped for the game, but im smart and I didn't pre order and waited for reviews. Terrible launch aside the 1.6 update and EdgeRunners update have the game in a playable state. That coincided with the fact that Xbox Series X were actually available for the retail price. So new Xbox, new 80's gory anime and the game runs well now, its all positive for me.
What cd projekt red fumbled heavily, studio trigger recovered greatly in saving the game from being forgotten into the bargin bin. It's impressive that the anime truly embraced the world of cyberpunk to the point it helped bring back players back to the game after the disastrous launch of the game for being Christmas rushed. (blame the CEOs). The story is awesome, the characters is engaging, it's a fantastic show! Bravo, Studio Trigger!!!!
Real talk GR I've been subbed for year but I haven't seen your vids pop in my feed until I searched literally this video.... UA-cam sucks I'll try the notification bell this time.... also I bought cyberpunk today after finishing the series.... and most places were out of stock so that is a thing
Gotta say, Edgerunners is one of the best video game adaptations I've ever seen. Purely because it plays to the medium of anime instead of just trying to animate the game's story. Edgerunners is a story of its own, a damn good one too. That's a curtesy that most other video game adaptations don't allow for.
@@SpikeTheWolf I've seen a good number of bad video game movies, I've tried to watch some of the live action series like Halo... Trust me. I've tried to watch them. The only ones I actually enjoyed on their own are the Sonic movies. The rest were either so bad I put it down, or were enjoyable for their absurdity (like the Resident Evil movie series).
I managed to avoid bugs in my playthrough of the game and actually had a huge amount of fun with the game. I've had a lot more fun after they've now updated things and I'm looking forward to the DLC. I also loved some of the Easter eggs from the game they put in the anime. Little tiny things but I was excited. I had a great time with this anime.
Just adding on the whole Rebecca kerfuffle, Rafal Jaki wrote a couple of tweets explaining CDPR's hesitance on including Rebecca. It mainly boils down to their worry of an bloated cast of characters on a nearly finished script. In the end, they trusted Studio Trigger and was eventually won over.
TBH for the goal of getting people to play cyberpunk I think this was a really good way as I now have installed the game as wel land will play it some time. On Rebecca who is also my favorite character there something I would like to say and that is while a lot of people class her as a loli, personally I don't. A loli character to me is more like Beatrice, Shinobo or any small girl that joins an isekai harem. Characters who look young but can be adults but still act very childlike. Rebecca on the other hand I didn't feel did that. I viewed her as just a small adult Woman which I actually really liked that she was smaller than the other characters as it created more variety in the character designs. As you said as well, it makes perfect sense in this world someone might choose or end up in a body like that. Also, the ending of the video is perfect, I love how everyone that has finished the show just wants to do now as Adam Smasher needs to get what he fucking deserves.

She didnt stop being part of the crew out of self preservation, in fact what she had been doing on the side was probably more dangerous. Frantic yet powerless to do anything, and undoubtedly feeling that terrible gut wrenching drop inside you when you cant find out if the person you love is okay or not... just felt like a very real and visceral reaction you dont often see.
Same here. Lucy’s expressions in the show and especially are eyes are amazing
But her lack of trust is what got them in the end if they only went together thing would have been different
In the world wars, here are the things most likely to end our lives as soldiers:
- sickness due to lack of sanitation, having to cook and eat rats due to lack of supply
- artillery shells
- bullets that weren't even aimed at you
- mustard gas, an invisible gas that shuts down your lungs in a few minutes
- land-mines
- air-strikes
- grenades from people that didn't even see you
- tanks driving on top of the hole you are hiding in
- infection from a non-lethal wound you got
- infection on your legs due to the trenches having a foot of contaminated water at all times
Most deaths are dumb. There's no such a thing as honorable death.
They tie the game in in ways that i think fit nicely. Adam Smasher as a cameo , Rogue as a cameo, and then David as a cameo in the game as a nice little touch. Just small little " Hey, this is a thing in a shared universe".
I dunno if I'd call Smasher's appearance a "cameo..."
Loved the show so much that it convinced me to finally buy the game, which was conveniently on sale the first weekend the show dropped.
You're a lucky human
Best anime of all time?
I added it to my wishlist. That's an start
Seriously I upgraded my pc just to play this game. It was a well spent money.
@@sukanya90 what ever it takes to see Adam Smasher bleed in 4k ultra HD 😭
English was definitely the way this Anime was meant to be watched. The amount of the slang lost in the Japanese dub killed me when I tried to check it out. Its literally the reverse of how these things usually go.
Rebecca's VA English Dub > JP Dub. Just compare the door opening sequence with each other, it just works so well with English because it sounds so natural for someone to talk let alone greet someone in Night City, the JP cutesy aesthetic that they usually do for the VA just doesn't work for the batshit insane that is ride or die rebecca.
I just like japanese dub because it feels natural
@@NeXbi Do you speak japanese?
@@HawaiianForgeStudios kinda, not fluent but I can
@@NeXbi then are you approaching it as a prequel to Cyberpunk 2077 or as an anime because that makes a huge difference for the "natural" dub.
I'm gonna try and find a quote, I'll put it here if I do
I once heard a lecture where someone said that the great appeal of tragedy is to see terrible things happen to people you're supposed to empathize with and see yourself in, and that the catharsis comes from seeing someone's life go horribly wrong and still have the author hold your hand and tell you 'this story mattered. even though it had a sad ending it still mattered. even if you don't succeed your attempts matter.' Grimdark tells you that the world sucks and nothing you do matters, well-written tragedy tells you that sometimes the world sucks but everything you do matters so so much, your story is still worth telling even if you never achieve that happy ending or if you lose it along the way. People have inherent value and their stories deserve to be told no matter if they turn out okay or not and in a reality that has no concept of 'fair' that shit just hits good man!!! feels good!!!!! it's COMFORTING (
Cried multiple times binging it, definitely up there with Ghodt in the shell and Akira in terms of top tier cyberpunk anime.
During the finale I remember going “damn why do I feel tears coming out?” Really surprised and surpassed my expectations
Thing I thought was great about this series was the 'Let you down' music video that acts as a self contained prequel story to the series itself. After watching that, I knew what I was in for. Then I heard Franz Ferdinand as the intro theme and was immediately thrown back into the 2000s. Always a good mix
"Why would I have a reason to play it? Well, I can think of one." At that moment we ALL knew exactly what he meant. See ya, Chooms!
I find if funny that so many people are using a gun called "guts" to kill a man without any.
Or just driving your car around night city while listening to "i want to stay at your house".. did it for an hour.
I forgot how breath laughing at that.
This is not a child being "aged up"
She's a badass short stack with occasional harsh angles and lines and behavior wise while wild and chaotic, she's not the problematic portrayal, she's the bar standard
The only thing "problematic" here is people like you. Name one person that the crusade against "problematic portrayals" has helped. I dare you.
Nah, real women exist in this world that are just small.
You just made the best cyberpunk 2077 spoiler ever, i‘m looking forward to playing the game now
Just watched the series 2 weeks ago on Netflix and wow did Studio Trigger blow me away from the story, it's characters and visuals.
Btw I would be interested to see what furries would look like in a cyberpunk world.
apperently the quote was mistranslated. CDPR said becca was "too cute" for how grim dark cyberpunk is supposed to be.
Batman Beyond had furries in its cyberpunk world, the splicers. It was neat because besides villians and mooks there were ordinary folks who spliced up their DNA with animals.
I've played the game for more than 200+ hours since the day it came out.
Still pisses me off that I can't duel wield, but the game was really fun, even with limitations.
also it was great hearing my favorite song from the game used so much in the show.
good to see someone else who loved the game I have over 300 as I had 3 playthroughs were I did everything and never rushed
@@Yunglex313 well she has a "petite" figure but she's older than David. Everyone is older than him...
@@Julien-Limosino-87 most lolis are like that. she still look like teenager. not that i have problem with it.
I literally reinstalled Cyberpunk after watching and now I like it 😭 wtf is wrong with me. I need MORE Cyberpunk content
"I couldnt wait for you to come and clear the cupboards..."
I really enjoyed this anime. It has good animation and a sufficiently good story. Certainly worth watching.
been loving other people's edgerunner videos but its so refreshing watching one with someone who is also familiar with 2020
I always played it on PC which is why I didn't mind the launch all that much. My first playthrough starting day one didn't have any game breaking bugs. And it was still a dark bittersweet story. Especially the corpo ending. Game has only gotten better and edgerunners just shows that Night City is a great world ripe with amazing stories to be told.
I guess what really tarnishes its reputation are the earlier gen console versions.

Well I watched it from the day it released and I genuinely love these type of story
Got it, be born a Nomad, and earn your skills rather than buy them.
The whole Rebecca thing is blown away out of proportion. CDPR were hesitant to add ANY new characters to the script but quickly agreed when they saw Trigger's concept for her.
I was waiting for you to cover this!!!!
I adored this series 😩💜 there was something very Emile Zola about the ending. They couldn't escape their fate
THANK YOU! My man Falco got a shout out! 🙌
At least we can say that we were fans of the game since day 1 😅 we gotta take our W's where ever we can.
@joceja23 Maybe you played male V or don't remember. Cherami Leigh knocked it out of the park in regards to emotion for female V. It can be easy to feel for V with the level of acting she put out.
This anime (and obv the new fans) gave a second chance to cp2077 and revived it
Now that's the power of *anime depression*
Edgerunners is like a beautifully crafted damascus steel knife, sharpened to perfection, then stabbed right into your feels and twisted.
God so glad you're a fan of the source material. And yeah, couldn't agree more with every point you made in this vid
The music is so good, from I want to stay at your house, let you down, major crimes, to gr4ve.
All fantastic

The Anime was FREAKING AWESOME. Totally worth getting back into the game. Much improved.
Does anyone know where the scene from 5:14 comes from? It was highly disturbing... intriguing, but disturbing
I don't think you mentioned "This Fire" being used for the opening! Such a great track, and just old enough to drink, at least everywhere but the U.S.!
Second reason to play the game again:
**Listening to “I Really Want to Stay at Your House” while driving through Night City**
i've been holding off watching it because god damn i have so much to watch (including a made in abyss season 2 binge) and now i've finally got some time to sit down and enjoy
Awesome video!
The more I know about it the more I wanna watch it. I'll make sure to watch it this weekend finally.
“Lol, the loli stays” Trigger, probably
what the fk was that backflipping naked man
I've been watching your videos since the beginning! I love how well spoken you are and I'm continously coming back to see what's out or which anime to watch next. You introduced me to some of my favourite anime like Puella Magi Madoka Magica and one of my favourite movies Wolf Children. Thank you so much!
Everything. The answer is everything.
Considering it revitalized the entire game (together with Patch 1.6) and brought in so many new players while also bringing back so many old players.
Still sad about how Rebecca ended up though. Would have liked her to have had a different ending; but what's done is done I guess. I wonder is CDPR will ever consider an Edgerunners 2 with a new crew. Probably not but you never know...
Matthew Mercer getting mentioned at the end was a surprise, but I guess I have time for binging the series this week since CR is off. :D
12:51 i just now see that rebecca has the dead Discord logo on her neck...
It made something worthwhile out of a game that many people wrote off in mere weeks!
No-one's going to show love for my boy Falco. He was just the cool getaway driver, saving Lucy at the end, and not to mention . . . His mustache 😤👌🏾.
It's great.
Episode 6 and on is where it get really good. Have fun!
Nightcity is gor me still the most impressive map in gaming, something fresh from the fantasy setting that has beem don't hundred of times

Thank you for this.
There is definetly a trend with the popular radio stations in game due to one quite popular song indeed...

The anime got me back into cyberpunk….and it’s really good.
