- Should you bring your drone to Mexico as a foreigner on a visit?
In this video we are looking at the legalities and more.
To make sure you know what is allowed, please do your own research and consult the Mexican Aviation Regulations directly:

Just found your channel. Love it and we go to Mexico at least twice a year from the USA. I took my mini 2 to Cancun but it was way to windy so I just flew a little bit above the waves. Thanks for the info!
Thank you for watching and sharing. I hope you'll get some nice shots on subsequent trips. Wind can be a real challenge on the ocean.
I have talked to the Federal Aviation Dept here in Mexico and was told quite clearly that no non Mexican can fly a drone, regardless of weight here. The laws changed back in about 2020 because of tourists abusing the no fly laws. I live here in Mexico and do fly my DJI Mini's quite a lot. But I always make it a point to be-friend a policeman of some kind before I do. The local police especially will confiscate your drone so they can resell it. The paper work shown on other videos are from 2019, laws change here just like any where else.
I've asked police officers on numerous occasions if it would be okay to fly my drone. I never had a problem and have flown (the Mini 2) many times.
Sure, laws do change. I always try to inform myself before every trip, but haven't found this change you're referring to.
Great video bro.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers from 2 Canadians 🇨🇦 living in Mexico. 🇲🇽✌️
Thank you! Is there any hope for permanent residents like you to register their drone in Mexico? Not sure if I'm up to the latest info.
Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣 George I love fast forward Spanish language 😂😂. Anyway it's very educational I'll recommend people to watch your channel.
Welbeck here from Accra Ghana West Africa.
I'll invite you to visit my country with more tourists sites under my expenses.
Stay safe and blessed 🙏🙏
Thank you. The fast forward Spanish was a last minute idea to keep it short and sweet, but still back up my information with the proper source. I'd love to visit Ghana 👍
Bring your drone if its 259g or under.
Better do some more homework. I live here in Mexico and have talked to the Mexican Federal Aviation Authorities and they have told me quite bluntly that no non Mexican citizen may fly a drone in Mexico regardless of weight. The laws changed back in 2020. If you bring a drone to Mexico it could be confiscated, or you could be charged duty fees.
Personally I would just go fly wherever I feel comfortable I wouldn't be looking at all those laws if an authority told me I could not fly there then I would leave I think you're making a little big deal about this but just my opinion
I'm publishing a video and passing on information I've researched. Some responsibility comes with that. You can do what you're comfortable with 😉
Would I bring myself to Mexico? No....
Mexico is a beautiful country and much safer than many places in Canada or the US. Just saying..
Appreciate your video\work and experience sharing here. I believe it's pretty clear reading the nom-107-sct3-2019-201119.pdf specially the 5.5.1, NOTA+1 and even looking into the text of form "K" explicitly says you don't need a registration for drones under 250g. I'll take my DJI Mini 3 Pro and I'll take your advice or taking the regulations printed just in case we need to have a conversation.
Thank you. Yes, that's exactly what I do. Recently I've heard a lot of people mention that they've had to pay a tax when entering Mexico. This seems to happen mostly in Cancun (I never had a problem there). I'd tell them that the drone isn't going to stay in Mexico, but I'm not sure if that would work. Might be a "gringo BS tax".
@@TheOneDroneMan indeed, noticed several videos and comments on them of people stating they were asked to pay 10 of 16% of the drone cost. The truth is, even if you have to have this chat with them, they are the authorities and I'm not sure how much I'm wiling to discuss the topic. I'm going to travel with two kids and if ever I'm questioned about that I'll ask where that is written, I'll show them their regulations and hope for the best. Being Portuguese, I'm fluent in Spanish, so that may help as well. Let's see. To be honest, I'm more concerned with the delays on getting the luggage out from the courrassel than other thing. Did you experience recently delays on getting the bags?
@@psadeazevedo I had no problems at all. We had direct flights from Canada most recently. My Spanish is okay and it seems to help a lot, for sure.
@@psadeazevedo Thanks for commenting. I'm posting a video, commenting on that very subject. I have not had any trouble and trust you won't neither, especially if you speak Spanish.
