Hi Dave, would be nice to have the derotation, as some/many still do not understand what's the difference and where is the cause. The rotation of the object in the original video is not in sync with the optics rotation but to its own rotation and speed and direction change, as the optics and derotation mechanism follows it.

I've seen Flir videos where the glare rotates while the image is stabilised (due to a dero mechanism). So are you saying in your video it doesnt do that, but in some videos it can ? or are you suggesting a rotating glare is not possible at all ? thanks

Would you be willing to make a smear with your finger on the front glass and do a test like that?

That's the first test that was done years ago with Mick West. It didn't reproduce the gimbal rotation.

@@davefalch1038 Do you have a link for me? Or do you mean Mick West's own test? (If so my understanding was that his test shows what he says it shows and your point was that the phone camera can't be compared to the flir system in the Raytheon pod - sorry for any misunderstanding, I'm just trying to get your point)

@@izckloable I did the test on my end. Mick abandoned the idea and pursued other explanations. Not sure what happened to the video- might have been deleted, but it's a moot point.

@@davefalch1038 hmm sorry if I'm being slow here - the idea of the protection glass being responsible for the scattered light makes sense to me and the mirror mechanism that is keeping the horizon at the same orientation would rotate relative to the protection glass.
I reproduced Mick West's experiment with conventional cameras and it all works out.
And as I took it you say that in a FLIR camera like on the pod it works differently and I'm trying to understand how so.
I have problems visualizing how the mirror mechanism wouldn't rotate relative to the pod case on which the translucent protection element is mounted.

@@izckloableMick is right, that's the conclusion.
