It’s funny how our rappers who are not from the hood and struggle make negative music and act all gangsta but Kendrick who is from the hood and had struggle makes positive music that’s why he’s the goat
Cinomatix he made u lol, the thing he is trying to do is show both sides and that even though you had some struggles you can get out of it. He’s not purely showing positivity
His music is not actually only about that. He sees that this “problem” is created by the people in power in every part of world in different shapes. He sees that there is rich and there poor. He sees that they make the lower class hate each other using race, religion, color, ethnicity, class etc. so they can control people. Americans think every arab country is terrorist, whites think every black person hates them, blacks think every white person is a racist, Jewish people think every muslim wants them dead, muslims think every Jewish person is a zionist and the list goes on. They know if they dont spread hate, people will unite no matter the differences are.
the contrast between i and u is so surreal. abundant joy and confidence in oneself juxtaposed to overwhelming grief and deliberation of suicidal thoughts. the entire album is amazing and the story being told carries well between every song, but these two songs in particular synergize so well.
you know when he says loving u is complicated hes actually talking about loving himself. At the highest point of his life, he loves himself (represented by i), but at the lowest point, he doubts whether he really loves himself and its 'complicated' to love himself. thats why the song titles are both single lowercase letters. its pure genius. the whole track 'u' is talking about how he hates himself which is just the opposite of i. two different points in his life.
The production credits and crew who contributed to this album basically all but comfirm this lol. Shows how much of a genius he was to be involved with the albums curation
@@MaddSpazz2000 Yeah, it depends on how much of a role he played in composing the actual music of the album. If he did its clear he has a pretty deep understanding of music theory.
I felt it when Kendrick said "Dreams of reality's peace Blow steam in the face of the beast The sky could fall down, the wind could cry now The strong in me, I still smile" These lyrics are so underrated
As a black 20 year old, I can genuinely say the world feels hopeless sometimes. I have no idea what awaits us in the next 80 years or so, or if things will change, if our anger, riots, and protests will end this corrupt system. Hearing "one day at a time, sun gonna shine" means so much to me rn honestly
Nah man, have hope those old white men in politics are dying of old age our generation is going to change this world for good. I promise you bro, Keep your head held high my guy, get into politics become a beacon of hope for your local community do something man we have the power. Much love brother.
I don't think they will. These systems never just end, they either take a lot of time or lives. Regardless, every day we as a generation work towards progress is a step closer to a better world, maybe for us, maybe for our kids, maybe for their kids.
I love how Kendrick is more than just a Hip Hop artist. He's a great poet, and he knows exactly how to paint a picture vivid enough for us all to be aware of what's going on in our communities, let alone the world we live in. I hope I can one day be a Hip Hop artist as great as K.Dot is.
I was literally about to comment about this! And to mention, he isnt black! The Hispanic self deletion rate is mad high in California. So that adds even deeper meaning! Peace brov. 🤍

Was obsessed with Kendrick since O D. Days. As a stupid teen and young adult, so young back then. Hadn't even started life, making lasting mistakes. Fast Forward to now 30, idek who that kid was, who Loved these Dot songs but had no life experience to truly understand the lyrics. Stumbled back into this song after the Drake beef, still somehow know every lyric. But now, that hook hits a WORLD different. Now that I've grown to absolutely despise myself. But hey i gotta get up, life is more than suicide👏👑
Please know you are worthy...please know to someone even a stranger in Chicago..u matter.. I have wrestled closely with depression..... I know that monster well. Love you
I'm 25 and I've been listening to K dot since 17. I'm in a dark place in life. My girlfriend cheated on me and I've destroyed my mind with LSD and shrooms since I was 18. But the only times that I'm somewhat happy is when I'm listening to Kendrick. I just wanna skip to the end. That's it.
@@mistercap420Pray to God like you would talk to a friend. Seek Jesus. It is NOT OVER for you. Today is a new beginning, a new start. Kendrick didn’t have it easy and he kept going - and loved himself. It takes work and you’re here. ❤
"One Nation Under a Groove" -Funkadelic 1978, The man at 1:09 is reading a book titled "Like George" which refers to George Clinton who is the founder of the Funkadelics and Parliament. The man standing at 3:03 is Ron Isley who is the Greatest voice that will ever be (personal opinion). Its The Isley Brohter's song "Who's that Lady" 1973 that is sampled and of course Ernie's amazing Guitar. Funk, Electro Funk, P-Funk, G-Funk Por Vida! porque thats what is Life.. (RIP Nate, Pac, Roger,) and Thank you Kendrick
Be proud of yourself. You went through every type of pain, family issues, trust issues, heartbreak, insecurities, depression, etc. You went through it all alone, but never gave up
Man real shit. This song helped through one of my deepest days. Suicidal thoughts and all.. but when he said, “He Said I Gotta Get Up. One Day At A Time, The Sun Gon Shine” I knew he was talking to me..
You were in high school like me, apparently music you like in high school will always be your favorite... thats what people say atleast. Im a year younger then you TPAB game out when i was 15 but anytime i hear it i teleport to high school its crazy, especially the song How Much A Dollar Cost that song makes me miss 2015/2016 so bad
From listening to this at 15 or 16 wanting to commit suicide to now at 21 years old a year and three months into addiction recovery with no desire to kill myself. This song came into my life at such a crucial point, and it'll stay with me forever.
Literally me right now this album came out when i was 20 but i ain’t understand life! Now im 28 gave this album a relisten and this music so damn motivational i love Kendrick Lamar been a huge fan but now IM JUST SAYING HE THE BEST EVER HE KAN GIVE U ANY TYPE OF MUSIC U WANT🔥this album saved me man
Man if we had more people like Kendrick in the music industry.. he's one of few artists who actually interpret music as an artform and not as a platform to get mega rich from off some mainstream hit bs that appeals to stupid people. Thats why I have so much respect for KDot, he's using his music to deliver messages and to connect with his listeners.. Making hip hop better one song at a time KING KENDRICK
I agree, Kendrick Lamar talks about life, struggle, and brings postitivity into his music, unlike most rappers who disrespect women, talk about money, and how many women they have fucked, and mostly call women or people, hoes, bitches, and niggas, but Kendrick Lamar is different he may change this world.
never appreciated this song when it first came out but now that a struggle with depression and low self esteem singing along to this almost had me in tears. I put myself down everyday but this song helps me understand that i should love myself and everyone of my flaws because deep inside I'm a good person and thats the only thing that matters and screw what everyone thinks.
I used to have severe depression and deeply hated myself to the point of suicide... Thank goodness im not at that point in life anymore, but due to my current crappy situation, I think I might relapse... When I listen to Alright, it reminds me that there is hope and at the end im going to be okay..
Do you have reasons for that ? If not, you have to understand how to change the vision of yourself you had so far. If you have reasons for hating youself, just realise that you're a good person, because you wouldn't hate yourself If you were not
Well you could apply the song to any situation where you feel low on self love, but he wrote this song in particular in relation to African Americans. He's made a few songs like this. It's what the music video is about, a celebration of African American culture and unity in a time where over the last few decades many of us have been killing each other and competing for success. Media and magazines telling the people that the darker the skin tone the less attractive the individual. Over a hundred years of being told that blacks as a people are lazy, unintelligent, criminal, and sub-human. This is a meant to be a celebration of self worth, claiming your history and identity, hence the hook "I love myself"
transcendentmuzic it does, I personally hate when others discriminate others though, It's one of the things I really can't stand, Racism has to stop. Everyone is equal.
If Kendrick can battle his suicidal thoughts and depression everyday ever since an adolescent and show us that we are not alone in this struggle and even make a song such as this for us and him to find something in it be it comfort, motivation, escape, inspiration, fighting spirit, whatever it is that this song means to you, when he screams I LOVE MYSELF! I truly feel it in the deepest parts of my psyche. This song and video hold a dear part to me and have gotten me through trying times and I am thankful for Kendrick releasing this.
I'm not even going to lie when I first heard this song, I didn't like it but when I saw the music video I realized that this man is something special. I truly have SO MUCH RESPECT for KENDRICK in the sense of TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THE MESSAGE OF THE SONG because in my philosophy I believe Kendrick is trying to bring us together as a people (not just black people) but the whole HUMAN RACE. I mean if you just look around with all the commotion going on in the world (and the news) just tells us that this song DEFINITELY has meaning and KENDRICK put this song out at a very crucial time. He's truly a leader.
I loved the song from the start but I knew the video would help some see his vision. I am happy he came quick with the visuals. I think this a super meaningful song and about the direction he wants to take his art. Kendrick is trying to stay out the BOXES of what every says a Rapper should be. His core fans love this song in my experience.
"i" was so cathartic and hit so hard after the emotional depth of To Pimp a Butterfly. This album took me through guilt, anger, doubt, and reflection, while exploring systemic oppression, self-hatred, and survival in such visceral ways. So by the time "i" comes around, it feels like Kendrick is standing tall, declaring triumph not just for himself but for everyone who shares in those struggles. "King Kunta" and "Alright" are incredible rallying cries-one full of swagger and defiance, the other brimming with resilience and hope. But "i" is deeply personal, almost like Kendrick’s affirmation to himself and his listeners that self-love is the ultimate form of rebellion in a world trying to tear you down. It’s a reminder that joy in and of itself is a revolutionary act. Every single one of Kendrick's albums is a classic, but in my opinion, To Pimp a Butterfly is his best work--an absolute masterpiece.
Tristan Cappo Bruh, what makes you think i'm Broke? Smh! I'm just trying to voice an opinion. -_- I hate people that make Negative Comments like this. Oh, an I'm a Women!
The line "everybody lack confidence, everybody lack confidence" in his song "I", does anybody know what he means by that? Arent there plenty of people who are confident? I consider myself to have confidence. Im confused by this? "Peace to fashion police, I wear my heart On my sleeve, let the runway start You know the miserable do love company What do you want from me and my scars? Everybody lack confidence, everybody lack confidence How many times my potential was anonymous? How many times the city making me promises? So I promise this"
Didn't even know this was Kendrick when I first heard it. I knew there was a reason I liked it. I greatly appreciate ppl with a platform willing to go against the grain and make songs with substance. No I don't agree with every little thing he says, but I really think Kendrick is more than a rapper, he's truly a music artist. yes, those are two different kinds of ppl (in my opinion of course).
I don't really know what's wrong with me but dang. I've been having days that my only "achievement" is getting up from my bed. This song literally makes me feel that I belong somewhere, that I'm not alone. Thank you Kendrick, your music, and specially this song makes me feel alive. Something that does not happen everyday. This shit hard.
Yeah artist from TDE are famous for putting snippets of beats at the beginning of videos, examples include in ab souls illuminate video it has the beat to a rebellion at the beginning and Kendrick's poetic justice video has a snippet of sherane aka master printer's daughter at the beginning
I come from a if you really want it, you'll find it world. Doesn't seem like you want it bad enough. I can easily tell you listen to " These people". I'm not into promoting on other peoples music. And fact of the matter is, only people I listen to now is Russ and Kayedo.
If you like uplifting music and know who Nujabes is, checkout "Soul of Freedom" by Uyama Hiroto. "i" by Kendrick Lamar and that Uyama Hiroto song saved my life 👊
I remember breaking down watching this video around 2015... Years of depression and bad life choices, and this opened up a new way of thinking. Still working on myself, but in a much better place than I was back then. Much respect for making music like this get out the message "one day at a time"!
Alright Now Yes 2 u Working on Yourself Whoo Hoo 4 me it started with each day looking in the mirror n saying I Love u Crystal n Accepting All Things About me the good the bad n the ugly 💛
Kendrick is a hall of fame rapper, because he is bigger than himself. Instead of rapping about things that offer instant gratification, he takes a step back and tries to reach a higher level of consciousness. He is a rare specimen that can offer this world so much. We just have to sit back, listen, and convert our potential thoughts to kinetic thoughts. "A piece of yours, a piece of mine, a piece of mind, one nation...under a groove".
yes kendrick is a great lyricists. but not a great rapper. just my opinion. and he suffers from bad instrumental beats and hooks. im talking about tpab album.
Top 5 Dishwashing Tablets: 1. Finish (always sparkles after the wash) 2. Earthwise (good for the environment) 3. Fairy (gets rid of tough grease and grime really well) 4. Cascade (good all around) 5. Fortune (cheap and good at making dishes look new
It shocks me that Kendrick can make a song about having world peace, staying happy even when bad things happen, and loving yourself. But people still decide to listen to songs about rappers bragging about killing people, doing drugs, crime, ect. And those records sell more and get more views than Kendrick. Just blows my mind.
macmac264 Do you think its people like kendrick who keep blacks from being accepted as Masons since his words do nothing for the advancement of mankind. Swimming Pools

Its different that's why. I didn't like it when I first heard it 2 years ago but now I love this song. There isn't any trap bullshit on this song, so some people(trap dickriders) won't gravitate to it.
This summer has been such a downhill ride for me. i have never been more depressed in my life, feel like everything is going wrong. Feel like i dont have anyone even if I have people that love me i feel alone. i have lost all the people i used to call friends, dont know who to trust. Feel like i've been constently fighting with my self I want to choose God and life but it seems that I always fall back to my old ways. Have been having really bad thoughts for some time. suicide and all the things come with it. Thought I was alone until i reheard this song and it gave me hope and even made me feel happpy. IM NOT ALONE. This song has taught me to appreciate life for what it is and not just the bad times that we may be in sometimes. Helps me to keep going Im not the only one but I will try to fight it and overcome. This song helped is helping i to get over the hurdle i'm in the moment. i LOVE ME. i WILL OVERCOME. i WILL KNOW GOD AND MAKE GOD MY BESTFREIND. life is more than suicide. i have never talked about this to anyone but thought it couldn't hurt sharing my thoughts. I LOVE YOU PLEASE STAY
Now I may sound corny, but this song saved me from killing myself. K-Dot made me realize how tough this world is, but still live through it with a smile and loving yourself. All I want to say is thank you Kendrick. Thank you for saving my life
K A N E K I N G you need to love yourself first, before loving anyone else. That’s what I learned. When you feel depressed you lose yourself you lose interest in things you love.
I love being a black woman and Kendrick reminded ya'll how beautiful we are. This song is so inspiring and the video was great. I'm glad he took the unexpected route with this song.
YES! I completely agree. The fact that the world wants us to hate ourselves and Kendrick is shouting something so simple, "I love myself!" This is black pride at its core.
ok so in his video he has a plus size black woman just shake her ass so I guess he is letting you know that's all yall are good for, this nigga don't respect women please
TheYellowFlash haha I know I'm obviously not serious. doesn't that make you the stupid one? Oh and by the way, this song and this artist are both SHIT SHIT SHITTY SHIT. I listen to only the god of rap. you couldn't even comprehend.
You can call me cringe af but I found this song 2 weeks ago and I can’t get it out of my head whenever I make any mistakes and I used to always let it get in my head and now I let everything go so easy so thank you so much for piece of art has given me happiness and joy can’t thank you enough Kendrick❤️
@@mequana i didn’t listen to TPAB until 2019, now it’s my fave album ever. some people will be late but they’ll appreciate the greatness. if anything, time may help. i know people didn’t receive this song too well when it came out
I am loving the entire video from beginning to end! Kendrick can move!!! Mr. Biggs was a power move. The King does it again! He is audible as hell! Beast!
this song inspire me, I don't care how hard life gets the devil cant take my confidence.. whoever reads this that's going through something, this world needs your presence that's why God made you
After such a long time of struggling with depression, I finally felt ready to listen to this, thanks to Kendrick, Azizi Gibson, Travis Scott, ASAP Rocky, Mac Miller, and especially Frank Ocean for helping me getting over my problems and helped me realize that sometimes someone isn't worth keeping you in their life. ❤️
This bringing Hip-Hop where it needs to be like I know it's 2014, but Rap hasn't been the same since the 80's-90's and somewhat in the Early & Mid - 2000's. Like I feel like this is a message to something to World Peace like I know people think this song sucks because of his Style but I think they have listen enough Fake ass Gangsters talking about their Guns, Cars, Clothes, Homes like enough of that shit. We need to bring back Hip-Hop's Level Again right now it's dead in the outside but in the inside it's still there we just need to find it.
This song really takes me back. I remember being young and thinking wtf is this. Now I hear the instrumental, the lyrics, the flow, everything. This is a masterpiece and it’s powerful
If you don't understand Kendrick's music then he has accomplished what he set out to do. He's changing up the game guys!! He's breaking free from the "Childish" behavior that everyone likes. People say this is mainstream....How is it mainstream if all the people that like mainstream don't even like this!! This is new and for the people with no artistic background i know it's hard to understand..Go to a Art Museum, read a book, educate yourself on what it really means to be a real artist because talking about Selling drugs and killing people will get you no where in life.
And who cares if it is mainstream. It just shows that he doesn't care what people think cause most all people who like real rap don't like mainstream but to me, doing a mainstream song and having humility cause you know others will talk shit on it, is as real as it gets. Which is what this song is about. Loving yourself and not caring about what the world thinks of you
Parker Felsted For real and that verse at the end of the song is so intense and hardcore i don't know how anyone could say "he isn't the old Kendrick and hes mainstream". Kendrick is Kendrick for life. The hip hop game needs a rapper like Kendrick because he is moving away from the R&B & AUTOTUNE and making his own style. The only other rappers using bands are badass groups like Outkast! The fact that he is dabbing into that style is awesome. Cant wait to hear more.
funny you'd say that lol Kendrick has talked about putting bullets in people yet... Eminem talks about raping and killing people so who cares aha just expressing emotions
I'm glad he made this song cuz there's a lot of people (including myself) who came from or still in a dark spot in life and can't see shit positive. So even if all u already happy people don't feel it I can and that's all that matters.
This song gets me through a lot, whenever people try to snake or judge and you gotta go your own way I put this song on for confidence. Just remember when it feels like no one had your back go out there and work hard and grind because only you have yourself
When this song dropped people start thinking that TPABF will be a mainstream mediocre album Years later and this is one of the best if not the best hip hop album
OM99 its cus people are sheep, they cant enjoy things for what they really are or unless someone tells them to enjoy it, this whole album was a revolution wether the masses liked it or not
who cares if this album didn't change the game. TPAB is on another level of artistic vision that other rappers only dream of achieving. A certified classic.
@@rosaatomica9976 thats not the case for TPAB alot of people like the album because its actually really good i mean Kendrick lamar got awards from the government my guy
@@blankieplays1350 na man, i meant the before not the after, as in people looked at it with prejudice saying it wouldnt be as good as gkmc but where is he now, 3 classics and hopefully a fourth one on the way, but bet these people think he fell off cus he wants a more rock influenced rap album instead of what everybody else is making, people just need to learn to listen to the music first and decide if they like it on their own
Funny thing is, this has always been Kendrick's style. xD That album he put out that made most blacks acknowledge him was, in a sense, a social experiment. I used to bump Kendrick even in his most weirdest and positive days, no pun, but most people who are bashing this song in hopes that Kendrick goes back to shit talking and weed talking are ignorant. This is, and always will be who, Kendrick is. He's a true artist.
Exactly, you understand what I meant. I wasn't referring to this particular style, but he has done work that had odd tunes and sounds in it it plenty times before. All people have to do is google the kendrick from 2010 and earlier.
Late Registration To Pimp A Butterfly was one of this generations best albums made, instant classic, every good ear for hiphop knows that is is true, but I can not decide for you
Kendrick is the artist we need in this generation of hip hop in my opinion. He reminds me of Pac in a lot of ways and I just love what he's doing with his music.
What are you talking about? Kendrick grew up in Compton surrounded by gangs and murderers. Just because he was smart enough not to get involved doesn't mean he never experienced all that shit. Pac's life was only on the line because he did that to himself. If he was smart, he would've gotten out of that gang shit.
Kendrick is one of the reasons I learned English, he is perhaps the most important figure in not just hip-hop but the entire pop culture, people will be listening to his music and will be inspired by him for centuries to come... I'm iranian.
Kendrick Is HANDS DOWN, the Realest Rapper Out Right Now! I Just Finished Watching His Interview With "The Breakfast Club" And His Vibe the ENTIRE Time Wasn't All About His Success And How Much Money He's Making! Very Laid Back, Cool, Talented Guy Right Here! "Good Kid" Is a Dope Album, Now I Can't Wait Til the New Album Releases!!!!
Kendrick is definitely my favorite rapper, but go listen to this guy named Logic. He just released his first album and he killed it, he is amazing just like Kendrick I can't say who I like better, but Logic has got the flow and lyrics down pact as well as Kendrick but I think Kendrick has the best storytelling, the album is called Under Pressure, you don't have anything else to do while waiting for Kendrick anyway.
Kendrick the kinda guy to make a song so people can shout "I love myself" randomly throughout the day. upping everyone's spirits
was bout to say "bro predicted gnx" then i saw this was a day ago
and i realized this was a reference to this song
It’s funny how our rappers who are not from the hood and struggle make negative music and act all gangsta but Kendrick who is from the hood and had struggle makes positive music that’s why he’s the goat
Cinomatix he made u lol, the thing he is trying to do is show both sides and that even though you had some struggles you can get out of it. He’s not purely showing positivity

I'm not an African-American, but Kendrick's music comforts and empowers me even though bad time.
Thank you Kendrick.

You’re like us ❤️✌🏽✊🏽
His music is not actually only about that.
WE ARE THE SAME COLOR INSIDE. GOD BLESS 😂😂

the contrast between i and u is so surreal.
abundant joy and confidence in oneself juxtaposed to overwhelming grief and deliberation of suicidal thoughts. the entire album is amazing and the story being told carries well between every song, but these two songs in particular synergize so well.
El
u put a video idea of mine into words, im working on a project with the two telling my story
you know when he says loving u is complicated hes actually talking about loving himself.
@@mrpenguin5150 i see, thats really poetic

He definitely studied Music Theory for TPAB. All the beats are those everlasting feel good Real instruments orchestrated. No drum loop packs
This beat is The Isley Brothers- "Who's that lady" from 1973.
@@reredrumuoycrazy bc all of this is sampled but it sounds so live
The production credits and crew who contributed to this album basically all but comfirm this lol. Shows how much of a genius he was to be involved with the albums curation
That has nothing to do with music theory. I mean I don't know if he did or not, but still
@@MaddSpazz2000 Yeah, it depends on how much of a role he played in composing the actual music of the album. If he did its clear he has a pretty deep understanding of music theory.
I felt it when Kendrick said

As a black 20 year old, I can genuinely say the world feels hopeless sometimes. I have no idea what awaits us in the next 80 years or so, or if things will change, if our anger, riots, and protests will end this corrupt system.
Hearing "one day at a time, sun gonna shine" means so much to me rn honestly
Nah man, have hope those old white men in politics are dying of old age our generation is going to change this world for good. I promise you bro, Keep your head held high my guy, get into politics become a beacon of hope for your local community do something man we have the power. Much love brother.

“[Intro]
I done been through a whole lot
Trial, tribulation, but I know God
Satan wanna put me in a bow tie
Pray that the holy water don't go dry
As I look around me
So many motherfuckers wanna down me
But an enemigo never drown me
In front of a dirty double-mirror they found me
[Chorus]
And I love myself
(The world is a ghetto with big guns and picket signs)
I love myself
(But it can do what it want whenever it want, I don't mind)
I love myself
(He said I gotta get up, life is more than suicide)

[Verse 1]
Everybody lookin' at you crazy (crazy!)
What you gonna do? (what you gonna do?)
Lift up your head and keep moving (keep moving)
Or let the paranoia haunt you (haunt you)?
Peace to fashion police, I wear my heart
On my sleeve, let the runway start
You know the miserable do love company
What do you want from me and my scars?
Everybody lack confidence, everybody lack confidence
How many times my potential was anonymous?
How many times the city making me promises?
So I promise this

(He said I gotta get up, life is more than suicide)

They wanna say it's a war outside and a bomb in the street
And a gun in the hood, and a mob of police
And a rock on the corner, and a line for the fiend
And a bottle full of lean, and a model on the scene, yup
These days of frustration keep y'all on tuck and rotation
I duck these cold faces, post up fi-fie-fo-fum basis
Dreams of reality's peace
Blow steam in the face of the beast

The strong in me, I still smile

Down, down valley deep (down, down valley deep)
Fi-fie-fo-fum (fi-fie-fo-fum) (I love myself)
My heart undone (my heart undone) (I love myself)

[Verse 3]
I went to war last night
With an automatic weapon, don't nobody call a medic
I'ma do it 'til I get it right
I went to war last night
I've been dealing with depression ever since an adolescent
Duckin' every other blessin', I can never see the message
I could never take the lead, I could never bob and weave
From a negative and letting them annihilate me
And it's evident I'm moving at a meteor speed
Finna run into a building, lay my body in the street
Keep my money in the ceiling, let my mama know I'm free
Give my story to the children and a lesson they can read
And the glory to the feeling of the holy unseen
Seen enough, make a motherfucker scream, "I love myself!"
[Outro]
I lost my head
I must've misread what the good book said
Oh, woes keep me, it's a jungle inside
Give myself again 'til the well runs dry”

Was obsessed with Kendrick since O D. Days. As a stupid teen and young adult, so young back then. Hadn't even started life, making lasting mistakes. Fast Forward to now 30, idek who that kid was, who Loved these Dot songs but had no life experience to truly understand the lyrics. Stumbled back into this song after the Drake beef, still somehow know every lyric. But now, that hook hits a WORLD different. Now that I've grown to absolutely despise myself. But hey i gotta get up, life is more than suicide👏👑

This song has the opposite effect on me. This song reminds me that I'm supposed love myself, but the fact that i don't just makes me feel worst.
Do you have reasons for that ? If not, you have to understand how to change the vision of yourself you had so far. If you have reasons for hating youself, just realise that you're a good person, because you wouldn't hate yourself If you were not

Kendrick is a whole nother tier of rapper bro
Multifacited
I love that he's unique and not like all of these other rappers
So now knowing that, when you rewatch the music video,it makes much more sense
transcendentmuzic it does, I personally hate when others discriminate others though, It's one of the things I really can't stand, Racism has to stop. Everyone is equal.
That's not exactly why he wrote this song love
MishaTv Oh gosh, I just watched an interview where he said that so idk

If Kendrick can battle his suicidal thoughts and depression everyday ever since an adolescent and show us that we are not alone in this struggle and even make a song such as this for us and him to find something in it be it comfort, motivation, escape, inspiration, fighting spirit, whatever it is that this song means to you, when he screams I LOVE MYSELF! I truly feel it in the deepest parts of my psyche. This song and video hold a dear part to me and have gotten me through trying times and I am thankful for Kendrick releasing this.
Kendrick feeds my soul and makes me want to be the best version of myself. Thank you for your high vibration art.
Kendrick is the G.O.A.T

It shocks me that Kendrick can make a song about having world peace, staying happy even when bad things happen, and loving yourself. But people still decide to listen to songs about rappers bragging about killing people, doing drugs, crime, ect. And those records sell more and get more views than Kendrick. Just blows my mind.
macmac264 he is gonna change the world!! i wish that the "industry" dont do the same thing that was done to Pac

LYRICS
No! No! We talking about peace
A peace of yours
A peace of mine
A peace of mind, one nation
Under a groove
This is a world premiere [x2]
I done been through a whole lot
Trials and tribulations, but I know God
Satan wanna put me in a bow-tie
Praying that the holy water don't go dry, yeah yeah
As I look around me
So many motherfuckers wanna down me
But ain't no nigga never drown me
In front of a dirty double-mirror they found me
And I love myself
(The world is a ghetto with guns and picket signs)
I love myself
(But it can do what it want whenever it wants and I don't mind)
I love myself
(He said I gotta get up, life is more than suicide)
I love myself
(One day at the time, sun gone shine)
Everybody looking at you crazy (Crazy)
What you gone do? (What you gone do?)
Lift up your head and keep moving (Keep moving)
Or let the paranoia haunt you? (Haunt you)
Peace to fashion police I wear my heart
On my sleeve let the runway start
You know the miserable do love company
Fuck do you want from me and my scars?
Everybody lack confidence, everybody lack confidence
How many times our potential was anonymous?
How many times the city making me promises?
So I promise
I love myself
(The world is a ghetto with guns and picket signs)
I love myself
(But it can do what it want whenever it wants and I don't mind)
I love myself
(He said I gotta get up, life is more than suicide)
I love myself
(One day at the time, sun gone shine)
They wanna say there's a war outside and a bomb in the street
And a gun in the hood and a mob of police
And a rock on the corner and a line full of fiends
And a bottle full of lean and a model on the scene
These days of frustration keep y'all on ducking rotation
I duck these gold faces, post up fee-fi-fo-fum basis
Dreams of realities peace
Blow steam in the face of the beast
The sky can fall down, the wind can cry now
The strong in me, I still smile
I love myself
(The world is a ghetto with guns and picket signs)
I love myself
(But it can do what it want whenever it wants and I don't mind)
I love myself
(He said I gotta get up, life is more than suicide)
I love myself
(One day at the time, sun gone shine)
Walk my bare feet (Walk my bare feet)
Down, down valley deep (Down, down valley deep)
I keep my fee-fi-fo-fum (Fee-fi-fo-fum)
I keep my heart undone (My heart undone)
I love myself
(The world is a ghetto with guns and picket signs)
I love myself
(But it can do what it want whenever it wants and I don't mind)
I love myself
(He said I gotta get up, life is more than suicide)
I love myself
(One day at the time, sun gone shine)
I went to war last night
With an automatic weapon, don't nobody call a medic
I'mma do it 'til I get it right
I went to war last night
I've been dealing with depression ever since an adolescent
Duckin' every other blessin', l can never see the message
I can never take the lead, I can never bob and weave
For my ****a that be letting 'em annihilate me
And it's evident I'm moving at a meteor speed
Finna run into a building, lay my body in the street
Keep my money in the ceiling, let my mama know I'm free
Give my story to the children and the lesson they can read
And the glory to the feeling of the holy unseen
Seen enough, make a motherfucker scream, "I love myself!"
I lost my head
I've must misread what the good book said
Oh woes keep me, it's a jungle inside
Give myself again 'til the well runs dry

Why would people hate this song? It's such a good kendrick song.
Its different that's why. I didn't like it when I first heard it 2 years ago but now I love this song. There isn't any trap bullshit on this song, so some people(trap dickriders) won't gravitate to it.

Kendrick Lamar is timeless. KING of STREETS.
Albert Navarro Im going through some of the same things as you. Keep fighting and when you fall down get back. You got this. We got this. God bless.
Thats why Jesus died for your sins and rose again on the third day to guarantee you a place in a heaven by simply believing in him.

i used to listen to this every day back in 2015/2016. a masterpiece.
Now I may sound corny, but this song saved me from killing myself. K-Dot made me realize how tough this world is, but still live through it with a smile and loving yourself. All I want to say is thank you Kendrick. Thank you for saving my life
You dont sound corny at all. God is still good. This world needs you bruh.

I love being a black woman and Kendrick reminded ya'll how beautiful we are. This song is so inspiring and the video was great. I'm glad he took the unexpected route with this song.
I totally agree with your comment. The video and song is a breath of fresh air.
YES! I completely agree. The fact that the world wants us to hate ourselves and Kendrick is shouting something so simple, "I love myself!" This is black pride at its core.
reeti212x You're pretty damn beautiful yourself
100%Asian. But I'm told I'm low key black lol. Nonetheless I love your comment. Yes, the unexpected route. So dope.
ok so in his video he has a plus size black woman just shake her ass so I guess he is letting you know that's all yall are good for, this nigga don't respect women please

so hyped for his album

This and PRhyme tho...
when does it come out?
Angad Singh before Carter 5 I tell you that much lol.
most of the songs might be produced by DR DRE
How can you not like this record. This album came out at a difficult time in my life. A turning point actually.
Like not just a 90's or 80's Level like this is 2014 we just need Hip-Hop in the right place it doesn't matter which Decade.
This is not bringing hip hop back lmfaoooo you Kendrick stans are delusional
hip hop isn't even dead
ugkgirl l You don't know the Message what this Song means don't you? Then you're a fucking idiot.
ben dover Hip-Hop is in a Coma right now.
Loving yourself and not caring about what the world thinks of you
It'll get u to jail
Parker Felsted
For real and that verse at the end of the song is so intense and hardcore i don't know how anyone could say "he isn't the old Kendrick and hes mainstream".
Fuck boy. He doesn't give a shit
funny you'd say that lol Kendrick has talked about putting bullets in people yet... Eminem talks about raping and killing people so who cares aha just expressing emotions
I'm glad he made this song cuz there's a lot of people (including myself) who came from or still in a dark spot in life and can't see shit positive.
So even if all u already happy people don't feel it I can and that's all that matters.
hugs
This song gets me through a lot, whenever people try to snake or judge and you gotta go your own way I put this song on for confidence. Just remember when it feels like no one had your back go out there and work hard and grind because only you have yourself

When this song dropped people start thinking that TPABF will be a mainstream mediocre album
Years later and this is one of the best if not the best hip hop album

Not always, this kind of sounds like it has that southern feel to it. Like a Cee Lo Green or a Andre 3000 type shit.
Nope its just 80's type music
Exactly, you understand what I meant. I wasn't referring to this particular style, but he has done work that had odd tunes and sounds in it it plenty times before. All people have to do is google the kendrick from 2010 and earlier.
To Pimp a Butterfly was on a whole nother level

Disagree but I don’t want too argue just enjoy the song
Late Registration To Pimp A Butterfly was one of this generations best albums made, instant classic, every good ear for hiphop knows that is is true, but I can not decide for you
That’s Facts. In my opinion I feel like people sleep on this album. I also feel this was his best album because of the Mix of R and B and Lyrical rap
Kendrick is the artist we need in this generation of hip hop in my opinion. He reminds me of Pac in a lot of ways and I just love what he's doing with his music.
yeah i hope he ushers in a new era or at least shifts out this stupid one...
MrThuglife404 you make a valid point bro
+MrThuglife404 I think Kendrick is only smart..only did not make his life harder than it has to be..😉..2 PAC R.I.P.

This shows that music has the ability to unite people. I truly love the sentiment.

My favorite rapper because he spits real music.
True but I put J Cole at the same level as kendrick with rapping and just being the realest in the game
