A Brief introduction into identifying/recognising American (Black) Cherry 'Prunus Serotina' along with describing some of it's uses. I am not being paid to recommend any of the following.
For greater detail on how to identify wood on an academic level I would suggest you get a copy of this book
    www.yandles.co....
For general information on identifying timber this website is exceptionally helpful
    www.wood-datab...
you can also grab this book for a brief overview on timbers
    www.yandles.co....
for a greater look at steam bending I suggest you check out the wood whisperer's recent video
    www.youtube.co....
I hope you enjoy it. Please let me know if there is a specific species of timber you would like me to cover in an upcoming video. I am hoping to release one video like this fortnightly on a Wednesday.

I found some nice material from a dead standing tree at home here in New Hampshire. It's going to make awesome didgeridoos. Boring will be tough, but fire will be the catalyst. It's really red wood, smells nice too.

Woo hoo! And I didn't realize cherry would darken no matter what you do with it. Good to know! I'm learning a lot from this series!

Thanks for sharing. That's the beauty of this species. Darken up with in time. Not as dark as Brazilian Cherry. I am in the middle of redoing the veneer on a 1975 pioneer turn table. It's gonna look beautiful. I am gonna use some poly satin. To finish up. I am not sure how to apply the wax or oil you mentioned. But I think what I have in mind it's gonna be ok. Unless if you suggest wax or oil. Thx.

Most waxes or oils i apply with a disposable material such as a kitchen roll as long as it has no colour present. If you use an oil make sure you spread the material out afterwards and allow it to dry. This is to prevent the oil generating an exothermic reaction and catching fire. But poly satin would work fine i'm sure

Where can I buy those logs that are already partially split (1:30)? Looks like a great idea rather than having to split the log in half all on my own!

I have. Like he mentioned it'll darken up with in a short period of time. I think it looks amazing. You should see the contrast it takes. The pink spots turn dark. As the pink/yellow let's say it turn as light orange type of thing. I think is soft wood tho. I've built interior stairs in the past not as many cause the wood it's expensive. But not only smells really good but looks amazing.
