    yo digging the background track here! also i don't know if it's just how all the audio is blending but sometimes it sounds like there is a reverb on your voice (in a good way haha). great shots and breakdown as always.

      Ok I was about to say the same thing and I saw the comment of a certain Andrew Huang haha. It can be the frequency of the background music and his voice which reach the same sometimes. It makes it confusing and we have to be very focus to understand. Good one tho. Have a great day.

    One more thing - the way you use the Digitakt, Enrique, is super amazing - and many other of your fellow music-makers and UA-camrs are also talented. I'm 43, and I think my definition of "intuitive" is different than this new generation, and that's okay. I just got mine today and after jamming on it for about 7 hours i must say that its already my favourite piece from my elektrons (OT, Rytm, A4 - all mk2's) I came up with about 4-5 grooves which could easily be shaped into finished tracks on my cubase. Highly recommend this masterpiece. Perfect for the techno I'm into and probably most other genres.

    This is one device I don't regret splurging on. Aside from the other complaints seen elsewhere, I do kinda regret that it doesn't allow you to sample at lower bit rates. Their bit-reduction feature is more of a bitcrushing distortion than an aliasing/haze thing. Other than that, it's pretty nifty.

    Digitakt and a midi to cv converter is another way to control modular synths. I've been using the digitakt's midi lfo as a clock divider and clock source. I used the midimuso as the midi to cv converter.

  • @fluorophoremusic3679
    @fluorophoremusic3679 2 роки тому +4

    I think for me the literal only thing missing from this that would make it as good for me as an MPC one or Live would be controlling external synths in scale mode. I'm a guitarist, not a keyboard player...it's always a complete chore for me to have to use a keyboard to sequence my hardware synths. One thing I love about both Maschine and MPC is the ability to use the pads in scale mode...choose the key...and the only pads available to me to use are in the proper key. This may be cheating, but it greatly improves my ability to get tracks and ideas down without playing the wrong note 100x on a keyboard.
    Until I can do this with a Digitakt, I just won't buy one.

      @souliseum5437 8 місяців тому

      This is why I loved the ableton push 2 but it never can “control” other machines without using the Daws crappy send system (I hate latency)
      I didn’t even think machines like this could be played in key? Does this machine do well with synth sounds? I’m mainly looking for a drum machine with intelligence (like dubbing, sequencing, stacking, etc)

  • @ToyKeeper
    @ToyKeeper 5 років тому +11

    I use my Digitakt for almost everything these days. It's great having a drum machine and midi sequencer I can compose songs on. However, it would be a lot more useful to me if it implemented standards-compliant USB audio and USB storage interfaces. This would provide the main features of Overbridge, but in a way which is far more compatible and future-proofed.
    I recognize that Overbridge was previously intended to be a paid separate product which added extra features. But the popular response to that idea was so negative that Elektron cancelled it and went back to a free-only approach. That's great, except that their hardware is still artificially limited in ways which no longer have any commercial reason behind them. Instead of making those features work automatically with every current OS and every foreseeable future OS, Elektron designed their products so the extra features are fragile and proprietary and only work with very carefully-selected hardware and software from a particular time period.
    So instead of the Digitakt being a massively versatile sampling multitool and multitrack audio interface, I can pretty much only use it as a drum machine and midi sequencer. I can't transfer digital audio data to or from the device because those features are locked behind proprietary software I can't run. It was a bad technological decision and a bad business decision.
    Aside from that though, it's pretty awesome as a drum machine and midi sequencer.

    • @ToyKeeper
      @ToyKeeper 5 років тому +3

      Thanks, but it's more of a rant than a review. :)
      I got a Digitakt despite these issues because it's still the best at what it does... but it could be so much more if Elektron hadn't crippled it.
      As for other devices which might be worth considering, the Synthstrom Deluge is the main competition that I'm aware of. It's not as intuitively designed, but its feature set is more powerful, more compatible, and more open. I had a really difficult time deciding between the two, and eventually the tie was broken by finding a good sale on the Digitakt. Well, that, and because the Deluge didn't yet have a song arrangement mode at the time. I may still get one eventually, but for now what I need is a good polysynth module like the Novation Peak or Elektron Analog Four.
      Anyway, it'd be hard to go wrong with a Digitakt or a Deluge.

    I want to thank you for this video... I recently purchased a Roland TR-8S, which has many, but not all of the features of the Digi... really, for me, the reason was that back in the day I had Roland gear, so I was more familiar with the interface. I can't imagine I'd ever need a second drum machine, but I must agree with you - the Digitakt is absolutely a beast of a machine, and yeah, for the money? Like the man says "When you smoke it, you will know where that extra money went." :)

    Hi Ricky, I'm following your tutorials, reviews for the digitakts since some time which are really great and thanks a lot for the same. I know you like the device and also pointed out some limitations, issues as well. For me, I first purchased model cycle and Roland TR-6s together(I know those are FM synths and not sample based) and after watching the various videos regarding DT, I returned both the devices and bought the DT and its barely couple of weeks I'm with the device. I have no doubt that DT is awesome and Elektron is really way ahead in terms of power of sequencing and parameter/sample/sound locks etc however not sure why I feel like I really miss the model cycle and not sure if I can make a good use of the DT. Could you please suggest? I'm really getting confused.

I am also a Sony user (A7iii) and although I realise that colour grading is specific to each video, I'd be really interested to know which picture profile you used to shoot the video? Great video as always - here are my 5 reasons, however, for selling my Digitakt: 1) No Timestretch - to me, you can't call yourself a "sampler" if you don't have time-stretch. It's a ubiquitous feature of nearly every decent "professional sampler" from the late 90's / early 2000's - and I find that quite unforgivable. 2) Pitch-shift. Same as before, if my 20 year old Emu Systems sampler can do this, why the heck can't the modern Elektron Digitakt do it? Just to be clear, I mean pitch-shift without changing the tempo. 3) No Song Mode. Yeah, I still like linear recording. I like building up a song with a verse, bridge, chorus, and it annoys me that I have to pay more money for Analog Rytm 2 or Octatrack to get this obvious feature. 4) Loading sounds/projects isn't intuitive. This is a general Elektron complaint of mine, it just seems a bit long-winded and tedious. My favourite gripe about the original MachineDrum was that I would save a beat and then after power-down/power-up it would keep the beat but it will have assigned a different kit to my beat. To not keep those two things combined is absurd. It's like I cooked a meal and then the next day, I want to cook it again, but my Girlfriend has bought completely different ingredients. If I'm going to be weird and wacky, then let me do it by choice, not by force. Elektron force their way of working onto you. Digitakt isn't as frustrating as MachineDrum, but the folder structure still seems clunky to me. 5) It's size. Why does everything have to be so small nowadays? It doesn't have to be a LinnDrum size .. but for all the reasons you mentioned that you love it, I find it too small (small screen, knobs close together), and I prefer boxes a bit bigger - less crammed - and one-knob-per-function. The Digitakt, I was hoping, would be a compact sampler - but without Timestretch, BPO-matched slicing / beat chopping and Pitch-shift, little RAM memory (only 64MB! and 1GB of +Drive) no individual outputs, no stereo samples, ...it's not a sampler .. it's a little drum machine with a cool sequencer and some sampling/playback features.

      I know this box isn't for everyone but you can, through a really fun and weird work around, time stretch and or adjust pitch. It takes some creative use of LFOs assigned to the start play head on a grain length sample, so yes, it's a bit time consuming, but it can make everything from fairly normal sounding time stretch to absolutely bizarre noises. I totally agree that it's a bit of a beast of complexity (the whole Swedish to English mentality broke my mind when I bought a monomachine way back) but they've made huge improvements and personally I love it.

    Great video! Im very new to music production. I sing, play some flutes, and some percussions. Im looking to fuse my live instruments with electronic music, I wanna be able to perfom solo, be self-sufficient, and weave in and out within the electronic realm with my live instruments. But I also wanna be able to do without my instrumets, and just play music just through my electronic device. I guess I'll keep learning, and changing, and adding things to my set-up, but for now I'm trying to decide on my first major gear, and I'm inclined towards hardwares rather that a DAW( since I dont have a computer, among other reasons). Would you recommend getting the Digitakt (or the digitone), as compared to the MPC, Novation Circuit, or Sp404A? I would really appreciate you advice.

    Complete DAW-less beginner here. Been looking for an "all in one" groovebox kinda thing for my first piece of gear. Will be mostly fooling around in ambient/drone/melodic idm kind of stuff. Have pretty much narrowed down my choices to either a Deluge or Digitakt. Both seem like great boxes and are priced right, but Im having a touch time of deciding which would be better for me. Anyone feel like offering up some wisdom or advice on this one? Im open to all opinions. Thanks in advance.

    Sold my mpc1000, electribe esx, AND arturia beatstep pro and replaced them all with the digitakt last year...couldn't be happier. I have a waaaaaay smaller footprint in my setup that I take to gigs, it's much lighter, and uses less cords and power since it's just one unit versus the 3 interconnected to the rest of my setup. The only thing I honestly miss is that dirty tube overdrive from the esx (although I don't miss how hot that unit got with it activated)!

    Some limitations that suck for me are:
    - monitoring external audio stops when you record it
    - you can't apply effects to external audio in (though overbeidge can be used for that). The digitone can apply fx on the other hand but then it can't sample (I read since The digitone has 2 cpus or something)
    - no time stretching :(
    - 33 second limit on samples
