The difficult questions/content his work wrestles with aren't digestible to a wide mainstream audience. His work flirts with the esoteric and the ambiguous. This guy could probably be famous if he wanted to, but he's probably doing it for more than the fame or money (I honestly don't know him or his work well enough)... sometimes the best way to live is in the middle, between popularity and anonymity.
I dunno, maybe his goal here isn't to be famous. He's achieving exactly what he wanted to- to write, express, make music and have it appreciated. Thank you Deca xxxxxxxxxxxx
I subscribe to this idea. I think deca believes he doesn’t need the fame. I won’t claim to know exactly but it’s possible he even thinks that fame is ugly and evil in its own way. I think he truly avoids it. This creating a new aspect of what makes his art so f***ing beautiful!!
@Grizz420twofourseven I met him at a festival a few months ago! When I asked him for advice about writing songs he said " let it be what it is, a cathartic process for you first and foremost."
So in love with Deca rn, probably one of the greatest Hip-Hop artists of his time. Popular Hip-Hop (or Pop-Hop as I'd call it) has little variation in the songs themselves, their lyrical themes are repetitive and over used as well as promoting violence, drug usage and the Hood life. Deca on the other hand is very distinct in both his song writing and rapping.
@Mr. Mister Aesop has done Feutures with more artist, this is what they do, there is no doubt in my mind Aesop and Deca would make a banger, I mean at first sight Slug and Aesop would not match wel either looking only at their solo work, but they got multiple good tracks.
I think about this song a lot lately, and I think that this is my favourite hip hop song of all time. Everything I love about hip hop and music in general is right there, every time i'm listening to this song i'm feeling good, its pure medicine. Thank you
This song remember me the better days (2014) ... i forget the name of this masterpiece and today i found it by coincidence 😅 i just typed "jazz Hip hop", i like this song too much.i didn't remember its name since 10 years till today .Thanks to every connoisseurs🎉 Pardon my English.
I'm so glad my brother found you, ever since he showed me your music I have been jamming to your tunes. Your work is phenomenal on all levels your flow is incredible, your lyrics are absolutely fantastic, your beats are on point and your videos are awesome. Just listened to your entire new album and was blown away and ofc itching for more Deca, so here am yet again relaxing and listening to this masterpiece.
Same... I've countered people saying there is no good music anymore by saying that there is definitely good music, you just haven't found it and probably haven't really tried. It is a trip that I just found this dude though.. he is so God damn good.. I can't think of another rap artist who spits such understandable and poinent lines. It's all laid out in plain English, I can understand most of his tracks on the first listen. On the other side of the spectrum would be Assop Rock, on the 30th listen I still am only teasing a thread out of the shit he weaves. But I love them both in the same way.. its weird
Guy, im not even a native english speaker. I speak french, and a caribean dialect called kreyol, i ve learnt english at school. Usually I HATE RAP. But the way you marry jazz and your flow is great.
Just discovered rapp jazz from a comment under kendricks ”i feel something” leak. I feel so intrigued by this genre, it’s so deep and conscious while also being playful and sometimes lighthearted. It kinda projects the place these artist are coming from, about where they are on their journey and how they somehow found a good place to be in themselves and then to be able to express it so beautifully. Very graceful genre. It’s a shame that I am so exposed to petty voices and agendas in our internet culture that I kinda get dragged down by it when in my soul actually want to move to a “higher” place. I don’t know what higher place means exactly, but I'm thinking lighter on the karma, more consciousness and wisdom, lightheartedness, groundedness, balance and harmony type shi. Ps. love yourz Yeah I left J cole reference in their because he set an example. He choose his soul over the entire world telling him to stoop low, everyone expected him to, hell people even got mad that he didn’t. But he real af for that.

"it began.. when we took an apple off a tree limb, sweet sin. sustenance to sink teeth it. took a risk and got 86'd for high treason. a pivotal moment, simple components defy reason.." Perfect execution on the song and video. Quit sleepin!
Heard about you from supposedly one of your friends son or nephew (can't remember haha) but im so glad i stumbled upon you. Hope you're keeping up with the good work!!!
Deca and Aesop Rock collab.. Take my money! 🙋
How can someone so talented not be famous?

Talent has absolutely nothing to do with fame.
Tim J Thats probably the best explanation for Deca and a very true perspective also
He on dat Jay Electronica shit YO!
Too much of a lyrical miracle... he good though
I dunno, maybe his goal here isn't to be famous. He's achieving exactly what he wanted to- to write, express, make music and have it appreciated. Thank you Deca xxxxxxxxxxxx

Deca is the answer to when people say music isnt good anymore. tell em.
Why is no one talking about this guy. He's absolutely phenomenal
sooooo slept on, literally every part of this video is awesome
deca's signature hand-drawn music video, the intricate flow
needs to be more popular
that right there is some genius lyricism
"Get medicine from clinics, sing your penance when it's finished, then it's Venice in a vintage rented tinted limousine" favorite line
that line is insane, honestly the best use of assonance I've heard in hip hop
@@nufnufman999 have you heard MF DOOM by any chance? He uses this style of rhyming a lot too
@@marvaff6878 decas better
although RIP DOOM
What is "better?" I'm a big fan of Deca - but even he will disagree with you lol. But yes - RIP DOOM@@BruhRlyy
From lean mean dope sick fiend to pristine.......
felt rhat on a spiritual level.
Top 5 of The most abstract music videos I’ve ever seen

Love the ability to tell a story with writing as well as the colour book animation, give me hella deja vu. great music sir🤍
What an incredible piece of art. Truly one of this year's gems.
This dudes instrumentals are so clean, his videos are artistic, and his flow is flawless. One of the best out there
The world is so unfair. This deserves so much more. What a legend
Deca & Aesop Rock. How amazing would that be! Or a Deca & Sadistik collab
Deca & Grip Grand Kreygasm
just telling my little brother who showed me this he sounds like he belongs with Hail Mary Mallon
Love aesop and the whole rhymesayers gang, but deca would outlyric em all ;)
@Mr. Mister Aesop has done Feutures with more artist, this is what they do, there is no doubt in my mind Aesop and Deca would make a banger, I mean at first sight Slug and Aesop would not match wel either looking only at their solo work, but they got multiple good tracks.
Mr. Mister but he has shown his ability to have that freestyle kind of flow on The Donner Party if your heard some of it like Zick
"Love died with the troubadours."
The rare breed of rappers like Deca are the modern-day folk singers.
I think about this song a lot lately, and I think that this is my favourite hip hop song of all time. Everything I love about hip hop and music in general is right there, every time i'm listening to this song i'm feeling good, its pure medicine. Thank you
It became mine also after listening to hip hop since the 80's. It's flawless....
I like Home Base by deca. It’s in his album Snakes and Birds
This guy is so fucking good it's a shame he is so unknown
This song is a work of perfection.
The animation is incredible; has a insane nostalgic feel
This, and few others of DECA's creations are incredible musically lyrical masterpieces that i can't get tired of. For five years now!
So happy i stumbled upon this! I will tell everyone i know to take a listen! Thanks for the great music! :D
Billy Neufeld me too :)
You said EVERYONE!! Don't let us down!
Only one thing to say,
"God Bless The Poet Proletariat." -Deca
"Where Heaven and Hell are equal distance"
- the man himself
Man these lyrics.. what freakin genius, masterpeace!

Get Spooked M8 yea same. he kills in this song
This song is amazing happy I found it
This cured my anxiety immediately
honestly this is on a whole other level
Man this is truely a gem. I haven't seen any mainstream rappers that have even a fraction of this talent. This is what rap is all about
Much Respect ✊ for your presence on the mic and your lyrics 🙏
By far one of my favorite rappers…
I'm so glad my brother found you, ever since he showed me your music I have been jamming to your tunes. Some of the best rap ever comes from this man
Still here still listening 🎧
Hopefully, one day, this will be more than welcomed in a world that wants to expand on true hip hop and be willing to except Deca as a true artist!
He is a true artist, it pains me so much that he doesnt have the followers or fame to match his talent
This track is absolutely flawless.
i remember he went to my boxing gym, nice stuff. Also worked with him at a retail store
Bet he knocked yo ass out too! Guy caught you wit a left hook n sent you tumbling down
I can't believe I just found your stuff, you are writing the songs I have been trying to write. CHEERS I feel it to the fullest
Same... I've countered people saying there is no good music anymore by saying that there is definitely good music, you just haven't found it and probably haven't really tried.

Found out of this song on accident, glad I found it this is cool asl
Love the jazz touch & congas, I don't listen to rap very often but Alex Grey posted about Deca & it was worth checking out. Great stuff here

YEAH!!! The most creative video I've seen in many years!!! dopeness!!
Great album mate, gone through it a few times and really enjoyed. Putting my mates on to it!
Only 112,000 ish monthly listeners is insane, this man is one of the most amazing lyricists and his voice is so unique. You're fucken awesome man!!!
INCREDIBLE
Wonderful makes me feel like back in the days when we use to skate to good hip hop
these tight references make me think of last emperor
say your penance when its finished then its venice in a vintage rented tinted limousine
big things, big screens with big brother's ugly mug, sellin' us a pyramid scheme, like a fuckin' drug
wow your style is so unique and fresh keep it up 👌🏽
so sweet.
This should get more attention!

I like it. The animation is a breath of fresh air compared to the typical rapper in front of brick wall shot. Content is solid AF. Push.
can see a dope song brewin with the grouch

Everything's sunny, everything's lovely, put me on a pedestal, hold no one above me

But everything's sunny everything's lovely, put me on a pedestal, hold no one above me
[Verse 2]
Catch a stone cast at your dome by a
Self righteous sinner that would send Gestapo to tap your phone
I got the blues, got a lot to lose, got the news so-and-so past
Check the database for slideshows and photographs
You grow detached from your chosen path lose control and crash on a overpa**
Motionless focused inward, with loved ones
Howling like a thousand Ginsberg's with pinched nerves
Robert Johnson gave me his guitar pick
I can play super strings and rap about my hardships
You could lie through your teeth and spoon feed em arsenic
Who could stoop the lowest who could fall the farthest
It began when we took an apple off a tree limb, sweet sin
Sustenance to sink teeth in
Took a risk and got 86'd for high treason
The pivotal moment simple components defy reason
[Chorus]
Everything's sunny, everything's lovely, put me on a pedestal, hold no one above me
Everything's pleasant and good, eating breadcrumbs like the little peasant that could

Starvation, humiliation, despair, frustration
Every god damn thing
For all your ills I give
You laughter
