  • This time I open a box of BBCE 1977 Star Wars Series 2 Cards. Then submit a large number of them to PSA... to ultimately add to my collection.

    Great video again! Love seeing you rip these boxes! (Thanks for the shout out too!) PSA's pop report just lumps all five 1977 series into one pop report, but I crunched the numbers a bit to see the rate of getting a PSA 10, 9 or 8 for each series. Series 1 (blue) is definitely the toughest. Series 2 (red) and 4 (green) are next toughest. Series 3 (yeller) and 5 (orange) are the easiest with 3 being the easiest of the 5. Maybe just darker borders make for tougher grades? Edge/corner dings stand out more! Maybe centering was better on series 3 and 5?

      Love the analytics! Very interesting… i’m definitely not setting myself up for high expectations on this last submission. I’m trying at least!

    Enjoyed your Series 2 box rip. Thanks for sharing. I was surprised to learn that the “Luke in Disguise” card is not a sought after card by SW collectors. This card in a PSA 8 or 9 doesn’t fetch much, less than $150. It seems that the market is down and people only want GEM MINT PSA 10’s for most of the Series 1-5 cards...most of the blue series 1 cards in PSA 9’s aren’t going for that much. It’s too bad. Hope the market changes in future years. But even the Luke #1 in PSA 8 has dropped in value over the last year and continues to dip.

      All very true it seems…. I am certain it will return to normal evetually. Maybe not meteoric rises again like a year ago or so… but it should climb steadily back… since they aren’t making anymore of these, and people who love/like Star Wars will always like Star Wars. My thoughts at least

      Aye!!! PJ!! How you doin’? Happy Thanksgiving! …and yah… even though it’s only been a year and a half or so from the making of these old videos…. I have found my self glancing back in them a couple times. Fun times opening these for sure. Hope you’ve been doing well!!

    The “Threepeo, Ben, Luke” card is desirable in a PSA 10 by collectors because it’s a nice multiple character card. Good luck in your bulk Series 2 submission.

    It seems like the best cards are:
    #132 - Lord Vader and a soldier
    #70 - Special mission for Artoo-Detoo
    #123 - Solo blasts a stormtrooper!

    Great video! I wish you would have had better luck with the centering. Cards #70 and 132 are definitely tough to get above a PSA 8. Those stickers probably would not grade above a PSA 5 with the gum stain and roller marks.

    Well done! I am huge into Star Wars collectibles, but mostly do graded figures (AFA). I have a lot of the Star Wars cards from 1977... from a mix of collections, and your videos are very educational. I submit a lot of pokemon cards to PSA and BGS, but have been hesitant with my Star Wars cards due to price points on grading... and not sure exactly what to look for/send in. So, with you showing the pop reports and things to look for/defects... I am getting motivated to look through my cards again!

    • @e-dubrippinstuff9820
      @e-dubrippinstuff9820  2 роки тому

      They graded seems harsh… and yes, right now the returns aren’t what you would hope… but if you’re not looking to sell, then at least you are preserving what you have. That’s my view at it at least. I have no intention of selling at this point 👍🏻

      @@e-dubrippinstuff9820 that is odd that you only got 1 of card 131….I wonder what it was about collation methods that caused it?

    Thanks man, loving your videos.. Great to get an idea of what to expect from PSA.. I have a set of the blue border Scanlens (Australia) set, would be great to get some of those graded, very low population on them. Only 2 10's in the whole set.

    • @e-dubrippinstuff9820
      @e-dubrippinstuff9820  2 роки тому

      Wow! Now that’s some rare stuff. The PSA findings are very revealing I have to say. Like you would be if you sent in some of your Scanlens, I’m very much looking forwards to getting these submissions back… and sharing them too! I have a batch of ESB series 1, a load still from Series 3 Star Wars, and now these Series 2. I’m just very much enjoying building the collection. Pretty nut$… but enjoying it! Thanks for watching. How did you get your set of Scanlens? Had them for a long time, or purchased them recently?

    • @cobrakai84
      @cobrakai84 2 роки тому

      @@e-dubrippinstuff9820 I live in Australia... Picked up the Scanlens set back in the mid-90s. I wouldnt call them all pack fresh but most are in very good condition and the final 6 in the set are 6 of the Topps stickers but in card-form, which is why it's a set of 72, not 66.. No stickers. The card stock is thinner than Topps so no doubt harder to get the higher grades.. Cheers

  • @kenrogers1948

    Series 2 stickers are generally better regarding roller marks and crease lines than series 1 stickers, but of course the gum stains makes that a moot point... And as your stats indicate, this series is really tough to find in highest grade because white wear on the tips and edges shows up so easily against the red border... the other reason that 10s are rarer, generally, with series 2 is that there are only about 1/2 as many cards subbed relative to series 1

    I recently stumbled across a full series 2 set at a backyard sale. They are all NM and M to my knowledge. I'm a total newbie and im trying to gather information about these cards. Is it worth getting these cards graded? and if so, how much can i potentially sell them for?
    thx a lot!

    • @e-dubrippinstuff9820
      @e-dubrippinstuff9820  2 роки тому

      Well David… just because I would be excited to have found something like that at a backyard sale… I’d probably jump on it. If it was some like $80 or less. And if they are around that quality. If you send in cards that will grade at 9’s and 8’s (which are tougher to get these days), it would be tough to get much more than what you have put into them at that point. Flipping the cards, in todays mark, won’t really net you a profit unless you get a “10” or 2. It would be a “sit on them for the future” type thing. I’m just addicted to opening them, slabbing them, and putting them away. I just love the look of them in the protected slabs. I’d be curious what they were asking… I would guess less than $75 right?
      You can sunlit the cards for grading at roughly $18/ea, and then a “9” of a coveted card will get you $50 on average. Not much of a profit… and that’s IF you get a 9. And they aren’t easy. Especially with Series 2 and those red borders. 🫤

    E, what have you discovered? Do you get scored down if the back is not perfectly centered?

    • @e-dubrippinstuff9820
      @e-dubrippinstuff9820  2 роки тому

      I have to think that it matters… right? Maybe not at much at the fronts being OC…. but from what what I hear, a couple folks are saying that it’s not that impactful. I’d like to send in my ROTJ Boba Fett to get it in a new slab, but the back is wildly off in my book.
      Also, I should be receiving my ESB Series 1 return in next 2 days. I’ll have more data on this topic when I open that return.

    Series two was my least favorite of all five. So much overdone airbrushing and blurry photos. I read that they airbrushed onto actual photos and rephotographed them so that's why the pics are so bad and blurry.
