    I know this video is already 7 years old but you cracked me up when measuring the pitch! Its great that you use a caliper to make a measurement, but then proceeding with eyeballing the center was hilarious!
    Quick tip for a correct measurement, measure the distance from the outside of the pins and take away the diameter of 1 of the pins.
    Edit: end of the video measuring the pin or the hole is NOT the same if the pin is the exact same thickness of the hole the pin would never fit on room temp. You can cool it to make it fit, but that would make the pin expand and lock into the hole once back on room temp. (meaning the chain won't move) And chains heat up when in use (moving parts + friction = heat) so i dare to say that there is at least 0.1 mm of play in that smaller motorcycle chain.
    In its basic form this video is informative about the measuring names and what to measure. But the way its measured is not to be followed if you want an accurate measurement of your chain.

    can anyone tell me what is the use of figure 8 sidebar? What is its advantage over the straight sidebar?

      Hey Naeem, the figure-eight style sidebar is best for drive applications and the straight sidebar is best for conveying type applications. Hope this helps, thank you!

    useful to know the measurements but how do you ACTUALLY find the length

    • @USAROLLERCHAIN
      @USAROLLERCHAIN  6 років тому +1

      Hey Rob,
      The safest way to find the length is counting the number of pitches and then designating if the chain is ending on inside (roller) links or outside (pin) links. Please feel free to contact us if you need any additional assistance!

    Tell us what the method is for sizing chain that isn’t stamped ? For instance a 50 pitch chain , measure the centre of centre of pin , count how many 1 eights of on inch are there in this instance the chain measurement would be 5/8’s of an inch making it a 50 pitch chain, if it were a 3/4of an inch between pin centres then this chain would be a 60 pitch Chain , there would be 6 - 1/8ths of an inch total etc etc etc, verniers for deterring plate width for what ? If the plates are thinning you will notice side wear of the teeth in the sprocket long before needing to measure plate thickness more than likely caused by misalignment, if your going to represent then do so.

      Good Morning Steve, you can always determine the pitch value of an ANSI chain by dividing the first number in the chain size by 8, for example with #60 chain; six divided by eight = 0.750" which is the ANSI B29.1 specified pitch of 60 roller chain. If there is a misalignment with the chain sprocket then side-plate wear thickness will come into effect and thin your side plates. Most manufactures will stamp the number designating the size so there is a chance that you could have something custom made, or you can have a metric roller chain (BS, and ISO standards). Below are two links, one to our ANSI roller chain size chart and the Metric roller chain size chart. I would notate your measurements and compare them to these two charts. If you come up empty-handed with these two charts then you have something special. If it's over 300' we can look into having the toolings made to custom manufacture the chain for you.

      As always we are here to help, let us know how you come out with it, thank you!
