Olympic gold medalist Shiffrin: I'm no Michael Phelps

- (10 Feb 2018) US ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin couldn't help but laugh on Saturday when a reporter asked what her reaction was to being compared to Michael Phelps, the US swimmer who is the most decorated Olympian in history.
"You're crazy," the American ski racer replied. "OK, he has, what, 23 medals?"
Actually, Phelps' haul is 23 golds - and 28 medals in all.
Shiffrin's only medal so far is a gold in slalom at age 18 in 2014 at Sochi.
She comes to the Pyeongchang Games with a chance to become the first skier to win that race twice in a row at the Olympics.
She will also be among the favourites in Monday's giant slalom, and might also enter the downhill and super-G.
For now, though, she'll only commit to entering the slalom and giant slalom.
"I would like to compete in everything," she said. "I'm not sure if I'm actually going to have the energy to do that."

I’m Swedish and of course I naturally cheer for my fellow Swedish skiers. But I can’t stop finding Mikaela Shiffrin to be a very intersting personality and sportswoman with an ambition like nobody else and a humble heart. It did not go all the way this time, but I’m already looking forward to her future games.
She's not the Phelps of skiing. She's the Shiffrin of skiing!
I love her so much! She's my favourite skier although I am Austrian and should support the Austrian ladies. But no one comes even close to fabulous Mikaela ;)

OK, i don't know what people think, but Mika is still 22. She has won 41 world cup races, 3 world championship titles, 2 overall globes, 5 slalom globes and 2 olympic gold medals. It's true that she "only" won 1 gold medal at this year's olympics but with 1 gold and 1 silver medal it was still very good. So people shouldn't think that she will win every gold medal at every event she will race. That's crazy and simply ridiculous. Mika is one of the best skiers I have seen in my life until now, she is humble and down-to-earth and a role model for many young people like me. Greetings from Austria!

Michael Phelps went to 5 Olympics and got 23 total I think, but if Mikaela goes to 4 Olympics and win a good amount of medals then she is comparable to MP imo

Eh Jh you heard how she said you have to compare sport per sport basis, of course no one can compete in 8 events at a Winter Olympics, different sports for summer, but Mikaela did just get a gold in a different event from 4 years ago, getting 2 golds at a winter games is like 4 golds in summer, swimming, track and gymnastics allow for more events and medals
Lockon Stratos - Not only is she nowhere NEAR close to, Michael Phelps, she is not even in second place. At all.
To name just ONE of the MANY athletes who have outperformed her let's say, Bonnie Blair. She won FIVE gold and one bronze over FOUR Olympics.

Pot Dragon, thats stupid comparison. First of all the biggest thing in Alpine is Big Crystal Globe. You have over 30 races per season not just one. Then you have Small Crystal Globe, (slalom, giant slalom etc.). You cant compare sports where there is no World Cup Tour. Many times olympic champions are flukes or no names, but never World Cup champions. But i guess you are American so you know little about alpine skiing and crazy about Olympics.

Mikaela is so awesome, lets hope she doesnt ruin her life with blacks and the drugs and criminality that comes with it like Hope Solo and women like that
