I initially used multimc, but had such substantial issues running it on that launcher after a few days that I had to get it working on the vanilla launcher. This had some obstacles. You have to specifically change the front of your jvm argument to from -Xmx2G to -Xss4M, and I needed this additional mod for stability. www.curseforge.com/minecraft/...
Most of you should be able to have it work with multimc with no issues though.

Guys, even if you think you're bad at building, you should at least TRY to join this project. Even if you place just one block, one building, one tree, whatever, you would be a part of one of the biggest projects in minecraft, and probably one of the biggest projects in any video game! It's worth it.

I don't think most people realize how important something like this is. Back in olden days, people used to remember trails and places; then cartography came along and we made maps; now the world is being built on a kids videogame.
The implications for future generations is enormous, historians could look back to our era in 20, 30, 60 even 100 years from now. This will literally be one of the biggest milestones in human history.

@@LOLelpepeI'd argue that you aren't exaggerating here. A digital, 1-1 scale recreation of the earth that's accurate, isn't currently possible. Not with the kind of accuracy you would get if you had people editing it themselves. If we were to complete this? With human made structures? That would be a huge technological advancement, implications for future building programs.
Edit: the milestone being the first ever global collective human effort of accurate digital preservation. An actual snapshot of the earth that can display depth and scale made by humans with technically very primitive tools. This kind of technology is still basically the Stone Age of electronics. They haven't been around for very long at all.
It's not going to be a world wonder, but it would definitely be a great human achievement.
A KID'S videogame? 😭 I'd wager Minecraft is for everyone. It has a vast and complex crafting system and hugely complicated mechanics. I'm 31 years old, and I have been playing Minecraft on and off since its inception. Since before some of the kids of today were even born. If anything, Minecraft is quite literally for people in their late 20s/early 30s and older because we were teens/older kids when it first came out.
@@gotitaila4744 the target audience was, and to a degree still is, young teens and older kids. The fact that you were playing "as a kid" lends credence to that. Just because the original generations playing it have grown up doesn't mean it's no longer a kids game. Most sandboxes, regardless of actual argent audience, end up being for most people. That's the point of a sandbox. Minecraft has just been the most successful in its diversifying.

There is a way to view much further distances in Minecraft in real-time, with a semi-decent computer. It's an LOD (level-of-detail) mod called Distant Horizons.

I really hope that somehow this will get updated to the most recent version. It would be frustrating to build with just blocks from 1.12. Probably because one of the mods is 1.12 only, but I hope this project would be big enough to motivate the creators of the mod(s) to update them.
The good thing about it being on 1.12 is that it has arguably the biggest selection of mods to work with.
While I expect to it to break modpacks like RLCraft, standalone building mods like Chisel work fine.

Imagine climbing Mt. Everest in Minecraft, building a house, and running out of diamonds with vanilla settings.
Can only imagine the pain of having to go all the way down to y10 to get some.
What would be insane is semi-realistic ore generation. As in, "sorry bud, out of diamonds? Not gonna find many in Kansas. Have fun traveling to Aikhal Aikhal, the Russian diamond mine".
Then you'd have to travel over 8 million blocks, but maybe you'd be greeted with either massive veins or just large quantities of normal-sized veins. Same deal with gold, coal, etc. You have to travel to large deposits around the world/continent.
Then imagine riding a water elevator from bedrock to space
