Karma is the consequences of bad choices. Keep in mind bad people hurt good people but bad people hurt bad people too.

The Mummy is a classic and one of the many things alongside the movies about moses and others that furthered my interest in Egypt. I love the setting and Assassin's creed Origins is one of the best Egyptian pieces of media/art ever created with a heart wrenching and deep narrative. The Mummy is the best adventure film in my eyes right next to the Pirates of the Caribbean series. I'd pick either of those over Indiana jones anyday even though I grew up with all the indies as well.

Karma punishes the stupid as much if not more than it punishes the evil.

I think saying that you can’t deny that karma is a concept would have worked much better than saying that you can’t deny it’s a thing. It’s too subjective.

Benny and that guy eaten by the beetle are selfish and greedy. On the other hand, Imhotep is motivated mainly by love. The heroes are somewhere in between. There might be something to your interpretation.

Can I say something controversial? First of all, I love these movies, they and Jurassic Park shaped my childhood. BUT. I came across one point few people are aware of: The Myth of the Blood. When you see it, you can't unsee it.
Everybody knows Lovecraft was racist, but few people knows why. At the end of XIX century there was an occultist mythology deeply racist, and guess who were reading occultist literature? All horror writers of that time, all occultists, KKK members and even nazis. And that lore is a strong basis of mummy stories.
The Myth of Blood goes like this: All mythology, language, and ruins traces a line to an ancient super empire in the north, with a race of conquerors: the Aryans. They conquered Europe, Persia, India, but everytime they conquer, they mix their blood with their subordinates, their lineage becomes weak, their heroic aryan spirit becomes more and more individualistic, greedy and less aryan. The Empire falls apart, but among the ruins, there are some barbaric or outcast pure blood aryans that restore the Empire again. If the Aryans are heroic, self sacrificing, sexually orderly, there is an opposite race, selfish, greedy, pervert...guess who? Of course, the jews. Between pure Aryans and pure Jews there are the rest of humanity, falling in chaos when there is no Aryan class in charge. And the jews don't care about seeing the world burning in order to get their profit. Really nazi shit, right?
Well, let's go to The Mummy. There is a decadent British Empire, they explored the world, but after all mixing race, it is falling apart. Look at Winston, he wishes a heroic death, but he lives in a dying empire, living in Egypt, listening spanish music and having indian employees. The old world must go to be replaced by a new world.
And here we go deep: Evelyn's father was a great explorer, but got in love with Egypt, marring an Egyptian woman. With that mixing blood he has 2 children: one has love for knowledge, one has lust for gold. They are complex because they are mixed. Once they mixed, the British Empire gives birth to both potencials, one for decadence, one for later hope. Where this hope comes from?
"I am a stranger traveling from the East, seeking that which is lost"... - Then I would reply that, "I am a stranger traveling from the West, it is I whom you seek". When the east turns too much semite, there is a hope from the aryan west. The PROTECTOR OF MAN.
Where does the pure blood come from to save the British mixing blood Empire? America. The barbaric west which kept the blood pure. So the aryan Rick O'Connell saves the world by having children with british half-Aryan Evelyn.
And guess who we love to see under deserving bullying? Beni Gabor. He is hungarian, but his face looks like jewish...? Am I seeing too much? He is cynical, greedy, selfish, coward, internationalist and speaks the language of the slaves: hebraic. He preferes to be side by side devil itself and watch the world burn in order to save himself.
In short: Egypt was great, but the lust for dark knowledge, gold and sexual perversion, it turned into ruins. The British Empires rises, but the lust for dark knowledge, gold and sexual perversion leads to its decay. The lust for dark knowledge leads to occultist groups, the lust for gold leads to Hamunaptra adventure, all of it could awake ancients horror and destroy the world. But the heroic aryan blood of Rick saves the day. And as you sad, through cooperation, not selfish interest. Winston sinks, Rick's son Alex O'Connell rises. Mating choices make blood, blood makes nature, nature seals destiny. Richard is a king-warrior's name, but Alexander is a conqueror's name. A promise of a new Aryan Empire at the ashes of the old one.
Not all occultists are racists, Julius Evola for example denounces The Myth of The Blood as a perversion of the Spiritual Aryan Doctrine. According to him, racism is a materialist and naturalist failed atempt to have a spiritual order. In Traditionalist view, the world has these cycles of rise and fall, but not as consequence of blood, but the spirit. Once you master yourself, your destiny unfolds: Greater your spirit, a different "race" of man you become. A Kshatrya man is made of a different nature than a common man and their rulership is inevitable, even sharing same biological race, the Evola's Aryan Spirit puts biological order under spiritual order. But according to a racist, your spirit is just a manifestation of your genes and your race, turning Traditionalism upside down.
I'm not a left wing pointing "that's racist cuz perpetuates colonialism worldview". I'm pointing there is a racist occultist universe that fed horror literature. It doesn't make the audience racist, it doesn't make the movie makers racists, but there is no way to deny it explains a lot about the plot, right?
