She won an Emmy for that Grammy performance . The only singer in the world that has achieve that . But with Whitney we got use to many first . Love her and I think it grows daily .
No she won an emmy for saving all my love for you in 1986 on the grammys.. which was great n funny because her live concert performances of it kill any performance I've heard. She was the 🐐
@Kassian the word you forgot was good placement, Whitney knows where to add an inflection for emphasis, or scale in the right place and she never has to over sing a song. I don't know if what I'm about to say will make sense, but Whitney will sing ahead of the chorus and she knows how to do it place her element whether its a run, scale, inflection, or holding a note so she lets her vibrato accentuate the music she is singing to and it's just freaking amazing, no one can teach this, you can't learn this from a school, it's a gift to have an ear and a voice that works together so harmonious, that she can listen to a chord, melody or rhythm and falls right into and her voice adjusts automatically. This is why I say this is a heavenly gift and many are given this gift but hers was a special gift from God, her gift to sing didn't come from a grab bag it came from God himself and that is why you can hear the pureness when she sings.
I agree 1000%... she needed NO dancers, just her and the orchestra! You have to react to "ALL THE MAN I NEED" at the Coming Home to the Troops... You will NOT be disappointed! So hold on to your seat, cause that performance is gonna make you jump out of it! 🤣🤣
Look, let's be honest and upfront, Whitney is and will always remain, the greatest singer who not only lived, but will ever live!! Why, not only because she possessed vocal qualities unmatched by any other singer living or dead, but because she was divinely gifted, and had the total package. Can anyone tell me of any singer/musician who possessed such grace, stunning beauty, stage presence, unmatched tone, timbre, resonance, clarity of diction, incredible vibrato, rums and riffs and of course, angelic head voice and immaculate control!!! I am waiting!! Let me say one last thing that is indisputable - she has the bar for vocal ability so high that I am afraid, I cannot identify anyone who has reached it!!
I saw this when it first came on the Grammy's in 1989 and I was floored mesmerized and astonished by what my ears had just listen to live with an orchestra. Those notes gave me goosebumps to the point I found myself in tears and didn't know why I was crying. All I know is I just heard the best voice who's career professionally was still brand new. The people in the audience, the white entertainers found her refreshing that she could really be so little with such a big voice, and they knew not only was she going to be great, but she was going to clean up the American Music Awards, Grammys, and the Billboard Awards and take a lot of trophies home. There was not one African American female artist able to represent pop in a way that she accepted from the very beginning. That timbre, vibrato and tone is everything
I am so glad you reacted to this, many people spend time reacting to covers of this song without taking the time to watch the original. I wish those people would take the time to watch the performance that set the standard of how this song should be sung.
I watch Glennis Grace do tributes to Whitney in honor of her. I enjoy GG's work. A lot of listeners do check out the original But I lived in the days of the Vocal Trinity and saw their work.. Been blessed by these amazing Ladies. Rip Nippy. 💝
This to me is the ultimate version and performance, the definitive version to say the least. The pacing, the phrasing, the emotions, the build up, the goosebumps..... This woman is just downright AWESOME!!!! She did not have to sing the climax to an annoyingly high note like a screeching bird..... she sang it as it is and served nothing else but GREATNESS!!!!!
Kasian, This has to be one of her greatest live performances, not only because of the unique, unmatched Whitney vocal quality, but because it also demonstrates what a fantastic musician she was, and will always be! I am specifically speaking about how she directs the live band with among other things, her hand gestures and vocal dynamics. As you say, she is simply amazing, and will always be the GOAT
Wonderful reaction! I am the biggest Whitney fan ever and this is my very favorite performance of hers. It makes me cry every time. To me, it's the best live performance of any song anywhere by anyone. She was truly blessed by God.
Loved your reaction! This performance is so iconic and I loved hearing your thoughts. That voice is one of a kind for sure. If you’re looking for more Whitney, I’d recommend: - “Didn’t We Almost Have it All” Saratoga Springs, NY. You can just YT it, I think they consider that the official video even thought it’s from a performance at one of the concerts. It’s literally just Whitney signing on the stage, but her vocal interpretation that night was OUT OF THIS WORLD.
FINALLY!!! Someone reacted to this performance in the way someone should react to it!! It tickled me so much to see your enjoyment and appreciation for this that it made me cry a little! It's cool connecting with someone based on the way they connect to music!
First time watching your channel and I loved what you said about Whitney singing in service to the song and not in service to herself. Well said. So talented at not only singing amazingly well, she interprets a song with her voice.
What more can we say about this legendary performer?! I am rhetorically asking, cause I have ran out of superlatives to describe this most beautiful, generous and humble human being and amazing vocalist/musician.
lol! I love this reaction! Best part was at the end when you spoke of the audience's reaction saying, "They know they know" and did the funny hand clap LOL! because they sure did know! They all knew they were in the presence of greatness. She wasn't just some ordinary pop star, she was something special.
Thanks for the reaction. You got it absolutely right when you said she sings for the purpose of the song not for her self. She takes only the tools she needs out of the tools box rather throw the whole tool box at the song. That's why she is the GOAT.
If you think that was phenomenal, you need to check out her epic, and to this day yet to be outdone, performance of the “Star Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XXV in Tampa Florida in 1991. I am old enough to have the great fortune to have witnessed it live. It was the perfect storm of emotion and patriotism that came together that day. Just 10 days prior our troops were deployed as America entered war in the Persian gulf. Fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, etc were either in the Middle East are on their way there. America was on edge and we were all looking for something to lighten our spirits. It was that time of the year for the Super Bowl and Whitney Houston delivered a performance of our national anthem that took our souls to the stratosphere.
That was her first performance with an orchestra because all of her other performances on awards shows were with back up tapes and she shocked the fuck out of everyone that is when people realized that she is going to be around for a long time and all the female vocalists were like oh no I hope I don't have to sing after her and she opened the show so I can only imagine who came after her was like fuck I can't beat this. I would have said I'm leaving I'm not going after her. I would have said I lost my voice I'm not going after her.
You should, you must, you have to do a reaction to her 1991 Performance of All The Man I Need from her HBO special. Epic would be an understatement! She also murder the Billboard Awards that same year with a medley of Lover Man and All The Man I Need.
Pls see Indonesian Whitney Houston sing this song , her name's is Vanny Vabiola , she is trending now, she can sing whitney houston celine dion, Mariah Carey, Beyonce perfect.. 👍👍👍
Awesome. One of my fav of the Vocal Trinity. Thanks so much. Have you ever Reacted to SELENA? If not please React to her Disco Medley at her '95 concert. Thanks.

Get ready for the chills!!!
@Denise Eugene Yes, if you mean the Superbowl SSB, considering that it wasn't live. This is completely live!
I think so too
I actually like her rendition of this song that she sang to Mr Sammy Davis Jr. at his birthday celebration better..
Whitney in her prime with a full orchestra - I would have loved to see a whole concert!!!!
A diva. That’s how you shut it down. The Voice
