- In this episode, my friend and fellow pilot Lucinda joins me on a flight to Turweston! En route we are intercepted by an RV6-A flown by somebody that I know that was also heading to Turweston!
This was a great flight in lovely conditions.
Loved the mini formation flight with Lucinda flying "Don't go left". Made me laugh. Good advice though he was pretty close.
flying at Alba Airsports in a Skyranger Nynja! love it too
Spent 16 'slow' years building an RV-6A (G-VANZ), had to sell it before I finished it. Biggest regret and saddest moment in my life when I let it go. Fortunately it was finished by the guy that bought it off me. Watching that formation and him opening it up was pure pleasure to watch. Just subscribed to your channel Nick, never really been that interested in microlights until watching some of your videos. I have a newfound appreciation of them. 🙂
Thanks for subscribing! Wow that is a long time. It must have been a very difficult decision. Yes - got to love microlights they give you so much bang for your buck! Hope you enjoy my future videos too!
Thanks for the very entertaining video! It was fun watching two pilots talk shop while having fun at the same time. Looking forward to a video of the return trip! I hope one is coming?
Thanks so much Patrick! I am glad you enjoyed the video. No there’s no return leg with this one BUT Lucinda is returning for another video soon!
Hi , yes a good old Vicky sponge or a large slice of Battenburg , with tea . a nice video .👍👍Nice to have a copilot .
That was enjoyable start to finish. Thanks for the ride. Always a pleasure.
Thanks so much for the lovely comment! I am glad you enjoyed it!
Nick, another beautiful flight, love to see your flight path / route you take for your journeys. 👍
Btw.. loved the conversation about cakes 🍰 😅
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. I have taken that on board and I will look to incorporate the route into future flights! Ironically I ended up with a rocky road after saying I didn’t want chocolate! It’s all they had in! 😂
@@LetsGoFlying you can’t beat a nice slice of chocolate cake 🍰 🤭
Good to see u back Nick and nice to see G-NIXX is flying well. I am doing 2 weeks of work experience at Turweston over the Grand Prix weekend so that will be when they have loads of helicopters there, never know may see you!
Thank you! That sounds like a pretty good weekend to me! I’ve got tickets to the F1 actually! You’ll get to meet some pretty interesting people working there for sure!
As a glider pilot, I would always take a brown field over a green field. You just don't know what the green is until it's too late to change your mind. It's not always grass as I found out one day and landed in a field of pea plants about 50cm high and did a very quick 180 degrees when the wingtip caught in the pea plants. Luckily no damage, but scary.
Interesting take! I suppose you are less likely to flip over in a glider if the nose wheel digs in though. 50cm of crop with a high wing aircraft shouldn’t cause an issue providing the ground is relatively firm. Landing on a ploughed field would be an absolute no no for me as it’s pretty much guaranteed to nose over!
@@LetsGoFlying Yes, I guess it's a case of horses for courses. Gliders have a central landing wheel and are designed to accept out-landings of which we tend to have quite a few if no motor is installed. That central wheel however means we tend to drop a wing more readily once landed, hence my problem.
Great vid - I know what you mean about looking up, I'm exactly the same!
Haha it’s weird isn’t it! Doesn’t help having a see through roof either! Thanks for watching!
That’s because you lose your horizon reference and why you should never fly in cloud without an IFR rating and instruments, it’s super easy for your brain to be confused about which way is up @@LetsGoFlying
Enjoyed that flight Nick. Got to wait a few weeks before I can fly again and sad that John can’t formate on me in the RV4 any more!
Thanks Tim! It was a long episode! Took me forever to edit! I hope you’re on the mend sir - I would love to come and buy you a slice of cake and a cuppa when you are back in the air! I know Anna would love to meet you!
@@LetsGoFlying I will look forward to meeting up with you both later on in the summer. I was gutted that I was not able to visit during the build as invited but it looks like it was really worth the effort!
Also; what a bloody brilliant co-pilot friend you got there! 👍
It made for a very relaxing flight actually! I don’t fly with other pilots all that often and I had forgotten what it was like to share the workload like that.
Nick I got the adjustable / sliding seat kit great for different size passengers and pilots.
I’ve got the same! The seat was all the way forward!
you should make a members option id be more than happy to join to support great content like this, i really enjoy watching these videos great work
Can you give us some particulars on your airplane stall speed topspead ect
Yes! I am going to do a video on my first year of ownership in December so I will include all the particulars in there. I did do a review video a while back though as well!
Track up is easier, mind you I probably say that because that's the way the Army teaches you to navigate even if it means holding the map at a 45 degree angle to the way you are facing. You demonstrated the reason we fly for leisure. It's just a wonderful way to see the world. You wouldn't want a green field if it's barley, wheat or oats. It will be about 60 Cm high at least. More if it's a traditional variety rather than the modern short stalk stuff. What model of GPS are you running?
You lucky man! Get to fly with not one but two fittys 😉
🙄!!!!
Really enjoyed this, but it left 2 very important questions unanswered; Did Lucinda get her BLT & what sort of cake did you have? 😄😜😄
Lucinda had some double chocolate dude cake and I had a rocky road! Yes I know - I said I wouldn’t eat chocolate cake! But it’s not technically cake and they had run out of everything else so this was the lesser of two evils in my book!
What kind of ultra lite airplane is this?
It's a Skyranger Nynja 600kg with a 100hp Rotax 912 ULS engine.
I know you ended up getting the factory to build it if you don’t mind could you give us some figures
which Bose headset are you using? I am looking at a pair but £1200
You should get a roller curtain extending from the back forward. With suction cups for forward fastening. Maps are only so good for shad(-y bussiness) 😅
That’s a really good shout! Now to find one…🤔
NORTH UP?!
I find it mind inverting!
It's North Up or go home in my book!
I’ll be off then…😅
@@LetsGoFlying lol
I spat my coffee out when Lucinda said "oh bloody hell" when she reacted to how close the other plane was 😂😂😂😂
Is it a thing for pilots to have Raybans then??
Flying Eyes Optics is the buzz nowadays :)
@@BjoernKarlsson iv seen them on some American flying channels
@@itsmephil2255 Noel Philips has got them too now I think. Also LewDix is technically still British 😅
@@BjoernKarlsson the main 1 I saw was 'Mika' from L.A. I think
Him and his wife wear them
Yeah that was funny wasn’t it! 😂 I am going to check the flying eyes out! Thanks for watching!
