- In this video I go over all everything that has been announced about the version of Two-Face that we're going to see in Batman Caped Crusader, the new cartoon from Bruce Timm, Matt Reeves, JJ Abrams, James Tucker, and Ed Brubaker. I share some very light spoilers about the design of the character (don't worry, I won't fully spoil it!) and talk about some of the comic books that may have inspired this take on the character.

One of my favorite things about B:TAS Two-Face is whether or not to kill Poison Ivy is the only decision he doesn't need to flip his coin to make, only the method.

The funniest exchange in an already amazing episode. Love that they referred to them dating briefly and kept it in the continuity.
Part of me hopes that Havey does have DID to a point, and the scarred side is something of a long-ignored conscience. Mostly because I hope this version of Batman's story will go against the idea that mental illness makes you evil.
They're giving him the same arc as Saul Goodman the more I think about it. Lawyer who helps criminals and doesn't realize the consequences of his actions

For what it's worth, I grew up hearing "schnook" a lot, and to me it always had the vibe of a petty huckster or scammer--someone who'd swindle you out of whatever you had but didn’t have any great ambitions. A schnook is definitely two-faced.
I used to think of Deadrich Bader as a one-trick-pony thanks to The Brave and the Bald, Office Space, until I saw his performances in Gargoyles, BoJack Horseman, Superman: Red Son! In fact, in Gargoyles he played a villain who eventually saw the error of his modus operandi through a wake-up call. Hopping to see some of that in Caped Crusader!

@@michaelandreipalon359 The very same! Bader's character was charming one moment, went for despicable the next and finally ended in redemption.
Yeah, I’m always excited when I hear about Bader in a dramatic role because of Gargoyles. Jason managed to be charming, fun, sympathetic and rage inducing all at once. It’s a Shame his character was never used again. Bader turned in a fantastic performance.
@@matthewmckinnon-gray9957 Jason returns a bit in the Bad Guys comic where Fiona visits him at the hospital. Though she and Jon are more prominent since they have their own character arcs.

Since, according to informations, the show's Batman will be more darker than previous versions, it's most likely that Harvey will be the main villain in this first season, since his development could share similarities with Batman's character arc. While Bruce's development will probably involve he growing into a more balanced and heroic figure (basically arc he went through in Matt Reeves The Batman), Harvey, despite becoming a bit more empathetic, will still choose to act in the wrong way.
It also happened in Beware the Batman and Batman: Gotham by Gaslight.

Watch them name him Harvey Kent, like his Golden Age counterpart.

They may keep him being Harvey Dent, but who knows, he may get an adaptational bloodline moment where he actually is a relative of Basil Karlo or Natalia Knight. Besides, we already got a beloved Cyborg who's a Doom Patrol member in their live action show already.
And we also know that he can't be trusted.

Well remember about the Bat Embargo that he never appeared in the 2004 Batman series where we got Ethan Bennet as not only the version of Clayface but also Two Face.
I really don't understand the hate against the Bat-Embargo. Gotta admit, storylines like JLU's "Double Date" felt more improved and original because of it.
Heck, one could even argue that JLU's "To Another Shore" also got improved, because it replaced Aquaman's jarring isolationism (which would have been quite bitter, not unlike Captain Marvel leaving the League in "Clash") with Martian Manhunter's own alienation from humanity and his need to compensate.

My ire comes from the notion that DC thought fans were too stupid to understand characters could be in two shows at once.

I actually never had hesitant qualms on Bader being Two-Face. However, back in the day, I myself actually doubted his Batman chops due to his comedy stuff... he would have made a lackluster Adam West at first glance, hehe.

5:13: As a continuity nut who desperately is fuelled by binges, this is so worth it. Hiatuses have been a pain since stuff like Steven Universe (still a real good show pre-Future, but you know how it goes) did them repeatedly.
Just out of curiosity, what did you think of the version or Harvey Dent, and the tease of Two Face from "Beware the Batman" before the show was unfortunately cancelled. (it's a pitty we didn't get to see Two Face's facial disfigurement before the show was pulled.)
I liked what they did with him. He was flawed, but you could see where he was coming from (even if he was blinded by his own ambition)
It's a shame Christopher McDonald never to go full Two-Face mode, too.
Tbh I always thought the Batman 89 counterpart is a perfected version of BTB's Harvey. A flawed man who hates Batman and is driven by ambition for his political career.
If you search online, there is some concept art of his disfigured face. He looks a lot like the one from The Dark Knight.
@@gregorykeithmorris3970 True, but you can tell there's a shift in his voice and personality. He goes from loud and angry but (relatively) harmless, to quiet, calculating, and homicidal. I wonder how a full Two-Face would've gone.

I thought Bader was an against-the-grain casting back ten years ago in The Brave and the Bold, over-the-top and campy. His voice would be great as Harvey.
I thought his Batman voice was a nice mix of Kevin Conroy and Adam West. Very distinct, but familiar at the same time.
@@SerumLake That surprises me, and it’s a good take. But to me Bader was a contrast to Kevin Conroy, which I hated until I realized that BATB was a love letter to the Adam West and silver age campy, overconfident Batman, alive with gadgets and innuendo. Once I realized how over-the-top that show was, I was on board, especially with Bader’s voice.
I love "canon" Harvey so much, but I also love seeing more corrupt interpretations of him, so this is right up my alley. I'm thinking that he might have been a good man at first, but Gotham sucked him into its web of corruption.
When Bruce Timm describes Harvey as a "schnook," I suspect that what he had in mind was the ending of Goodfellas.
2:53 I've seen Two-Face's new look, and it could use a waxier appearance if they're going for acid burns. Also, switching, which is the bad side, is a new thing. I don't know how I feel about it yet.
Have you considered talking about the Harley Quinn series interpretation of Two-Face? I really dug the idea of him being The Smiler from Transmetropolitan.
Dietrich Bader also provided the voice for Batman in Harley Quinn the animated series.
As much as I'm looking forward to another Timm-made Batman show, I do worry if it'll be as good as TAS if Paul Dini isn't also on-board with it 🤔
Paul Dini was the best writer from BTAS. Hopefully he gets to write an episode for Caped Crusader
personally i never like the "he is a two faced backstabber bastard!" evil+more evil kinda deal, sure i get it, but cant like it, i guess is just how trying to retreat new personalities for mister freeze never fully work or just are okey at best after btas give him his tragedy, i just always feel more enthralled by the tragedy and death of a good man harvey represent when he start as a good person than just another cog in the corrupt machine of gotham, but he still is one fo my favs so im hoping they can mix well the worm attitude pre face and her revenge sadism after

@@michaelandreipalon359 Well my dad is a DC fanboy and to his credit he tried multiple times to watch the show but Batman's voice just didn't click for him.
This could be interesting Harvey Dent as a Scum Bag Lawyer who makes a face Turn once he loses his face .
I will admit I have never read the new 52 version of Two Face, I wasn't feeling the Uber 90s Tone & edgy try hard nature of the new 52 in 201 I like the Post Crisis version & the BTAS version and the one from the Dark Knight.
But this could be good

I'd like them to feature him as The Red Hood, but I'm starting to think they're not going to use him at all.
I'd like to see him already having been the Joker with a history of fighting Batman but now he's not only deemed sane by the doctors at Arkham which led to his release but is now an organized crime mob boss called the Red Hood.
He better not show up, but I do hope we do get a Jason Todd-esque Red Hood, even if it's somebody else like Jean Paul Valley.
After the show comes out, are you going to change the thumbnail of the video to have an actual image of Caped Crusader's Two-Face?

The New 52 Batman and Robin series when it was temporarily rebranded Batman and Two-Face
I dunno about this version being a sociopath. There are a lot of people who cannot for the life of them find empathy for others unless they have felt, experienced or endured something that gives them grounds to do so and for the experience to be humbling enough to grant humility. Many don't even try. At least, this is my lived experience as a person with a disability. No shortage of able-bodied people who just cannot be bothered to try and find even a little empathy. Until they too eventually find old age gives them experiences with disabilities. Not that it will cause a re-think in most, but more be filtered through the lens of selfishness and internalised ableism. Mostly thus, the description given sounds more like your stock standard privileged, selfish and quite self-interested person to me over a sociopath. Common and dime-a-dozen, everywhere and ever present. Who to have run ins with is a daily occurrence.
But remember in Telltale Batman if you choose to save Harvey, he’ll still be an asshole no matter what and in Beware the Batman and Earth one he seems to clearly hate the Batman and Bruce’s guts.
Don't forget his Don't forget his version from Gotham by Gaslight, who is a sexist asshole who betrayed Bruce Wayne by sending him to prison just because Selina Kyle didn't want to stay with him.
Two face is always an interesting villain in the Batman media but all the yrs that have gone by and I still have him as one of my least favorite Batman villains
For me, my least favorite big league rogue is Scarecrow. I swear, his Fear Toxins should only be effective in only a few times. After that, ehh, they and their hallucinations should be easy to shrug off.
@@michaelandreipalon359 Agreed. I feel the same way about Scarecrow because one episode, fear has. Next episode fear has blah blah. It’s repetitive.
The one time where it was dynamic was that episode where he made a modification to his fear gas where instead of bringing up your worst fears, it takes your fear completely away. Void of any fear where you do reckless things. That was the one time I was interested more of Scarecrow.
@@francostevo9939 Not just the DCAU. There's also the Arkhamverse, where he somehow becomes the man who brings down the Bat.
With that in mind, I'm actually glad that he never even appears in The Batman 2004 because of the surprisingly helpful Bat-Embargo, and that the likes of Hugo Strange neatly replaced him in a certain fear-inducing episode.
@@michaelandreipalon359 he wasn’t used in the 2004 version because Batman begins was approaching in 2005 and Scarecrow wouldn’t have much significance if his significance was used mostly in 2004
@fracostevo9939 Scarecrow is not a bad character but for some stupid reason writers refuse to further develop him and make him one note. Yt creator Mr rogues actually made a list of the best Scarecrow stories which show off his potential sonI recommended you look it up in your spare time.
I am excited for this version - because it's showing how flawed Harvey was even before his transformation. The best interpretations of Two-Face I think show him as a ticking time-bomb loooong before he got disfigured, and it was the excuse he subconsciously wanted to let loose.
I am not a fan of this show depicting the scars as "realistic". I do not understand this obsession with making Batman media more realistic. There is nothing realistic about a man who fats crimes in a bat costume! Just embrace the goofy comic book madness! And do not get me started on the possible influence of new 52. I can't stand anything related to the new 52!
But I digress.
Despite my complaints I am looking forward to hearing Bader as Two Face. It reminds me of Keaton being cast as Batman in 1989 and everyone complained until they actually saw the film
I think Batman gets the 'realism' attempts because he is 'just' a man in a suit... and when it comes to Live Action adaptations it allows them to use a Death Wish/Hang Em High style "Vengeance of a Wronged Man" story as scaffold; that they can build a Batman Story upon...
