    Thank for helping us small businesses owners of hand crafted items.I’m in stage one,but now trying to figure out what sells the best from the items I currently make.as said before in other videos I’m one of the ones who make a bunch of different items, but in a way,I know it’s not good and I’m trying to niche down and sell only what I see people interested.I offer a variety and I’m realizing that .too much variety can be too much on the artist and too much on the buyer.so.. I’m in the process of figuring out what sells best.

    • @CreativeHiveCo
      @CreativeHiveCo  4 роки тому +2

      Ohhh what an amazing observation, Janece! You're totally on point with being too different vs being too the same 😂 To this, I would say:
      Since you already have a customer base, start to really pay attention to what specific things they love about your work. That will give you some clues as to what's your super power, your special sauce that they can't get from other shops/artists.
      Just be careful that you're getting this data from a large enough sample size. For example, if you only hear back from like 1-3 people, then it can be dangerous to scale up your business in that direction when there's not enough evidence it'll be a good seller.
      Send out an email to your past customers to ask why they buy from you and not from your competitors! You'll be surprised how many people are happy to share 😁

    Thank you for helping me accelerate the in-between time of Stage 1 and Stage 2. Your ASAD course is a GODSEND! I feel like I'm skipping over so many years of trial and error and getting straight to the wins! Question, I'm already selling on Etsy but I was planning on trying to start using FB ads once I completely have my Shopify store up and running. Do you think I should wait until I'm in the automation stage or can I get good results even though I haven't hit $10K in sales just yet? What's your opinion? Thanks Mei. I loved this video!

    • @CreativeHiveCo
      @CreativeHiveCo  4 роки тому +2

      I'm SO HAPPY to hear ASAD is helping!! 😍
      So Facebook ads... they only work well when you've already got some sales coming in organically... or if you're confident about your targeting (like how we are with our new POD business - lmk if you're not sure about the story behind that, email me and I can send you a link to a recording where I talk about that).
      Facebook ads won't help a business that's inherently broken, and if it can help, it'll always be a struggle to be profitable with ads. This is generally what I'm going through with Tiny Hands. So many problems with the business, so ads themselves are hard to do.
      And ads require money, and the expectation where you'll just make sales right away that you can put right back into ads is unrealistic. I'm teaching a high level mastermind right now, and straight off I'm telling people to spend at least $500-$1k in testing ads and NOT expect any money back from this phase.
      So you see how you have to be in a comfortable financial and cash flow position to be able to do ads. That's a lot of money especially if your biz is only making $10k/year. And you have to be ready to spend a few hundred dollars a month consistently to start doing ads. It's very important to have momentum, because that's when ads really start to work, and most people give up before they get momentum because they don't have the cashflow to sustain it.

    • @missshanel4229
      @missshanel4229 4 роки тому +1

      Creative Hive Well that’s discouraging. 😞 I thought I heard you say somewhere that starting with $100/mo is enough to have FB learn the algorithm. Maybe that’s old news. But thanks for the breakdown. I didn’t know I needed to get organic traffic going. I think I will work on that first. I appreciate the response!

    • @KathyJurek
      @KathyJurek 4 роки тому

      Having been online for a few years and a member of ASAD I’d suggest learning and making sure your SEO is solid before trying ads. If you’re on Etsy try that advertising platform after you make sure your Etsy titles and tags are good. I personally have not had luck with FB ads but Etsy and google and pinning on Pinterest have been. Wet good re sales for me and are less of an investment.

    • @CreativeHiveCo
      @CreativeHiveCo  4 роки тому

      @@missshanel4229 Yeah that's kind of old news now unfortunately. The more we progress into the future the more competition there is and so things get more expensive to do... I think we're in an online technology bubble though. It's gonna burst soon 😲

    • @CreativeHiveCo
      @CreativeHiveCo  4 роки тому +3

      Hi Stephen. The answer is, it depends. I know, not a good solid answer there, but it has to do with where you plan to sell - are you doing craft shows? Then you're going to need more upfront inventory - or selling online? Then you don't need as much until orders come in. Do you want to put a lot of money in up front so you have many choices, or are you looking to see how the items sell before investing heavily in the idea.

    Hi! Do you have any tips to spare?
    I work a full time job and want to start up a little crafting business on the side. With so little time to spare it gets hard figuring out what to make that takes a small amount of time and also is beneficial in general. Piñatas, handmade poseable art dolls are my only 2 talents I've gotten down enough to show enough quality to feel comforable selling. But both take a big chunk of time over more than one day to simply make one of to sell. A Piñata can take 3 days, a poseable art doll is great to make over 100 on a piece, but takes a week to make one! Any suggestions on small general projects I should take a look at that would be more time efficient that have helped other people get off their feet just to get things out there fast enough?
    I really want to make the jump into having a full time at home job like this, but since I only have myself to depend on for an income, it's very daunting to make that leap if it may be off a cliff since it takes a huge chunk of time to produce what I know how to make

    • @CreativeHiveCo
      @CreativeHiveCo  3 роки тому

      For your business to be successful you are going to want to be able to produce your product as easily as you can. If these pieces are so time-consuming, then it may not be your ideal product to start out with.

      Hi Julie! It doesn't matter if you get a desktop PC or a laptop because the specifications is more important. If you travel/move around a lot though, I think getting a laptop will be your best choice because of its portability. Good luck! I really hope you find the computer that will work for you. ❤️❤️

    What about restarting after covid. My business slowly stopped. Was making 10k plus+ but was using third party shipping and printing. Now I'm printing local and shipping personally to customer. I'm not new but my system is. Have no idea what stage I'm in. Any tips on restarting or remodeling the business and what to focus on? My budget is limited but my quality product I believe is much better.

    One important thing not mentioned here is taxes. Is the goal $10k before or after taxes, paying for help, materials etc? Or is the profit $10k? If you’re self employed you pay more tax than if you were an employee. Self employed people pay a lot in taxes. Just speaking from experience.
    Thank you for these videos I appreciate them a lot. I’m learning a lot.

      Good point! The ranges mentioned is sales/revenue ranges, not profit, since profit is a derivative of sales and much more variable depending on expenses. Totally agree, I've paid A LOT in taxes 😭 and know self-employed folks end up paying more.

      Get an accountant who is well versed in self employment and you'll pay much less in taxes.

    Hello, I like your video but have a question about your business. I'm wondering do you have employees making your product as well? From what I understand, you are in stage 4 for your own business is that true? What exactly are you automating in your own business?

      Yes I do! I've had Tiny Hands for 14 years and have reached the point where I have employees making jewelry for me.

    You are right that in the beginning, it seems daunting even to reach the first $1000. I am a new member of your A Sale a Day Class and I'm optimistic that I will hone my craft and learn invaluable techniques that will only help with sales. Here's to the first $1000! I can't wait!
