grew up in cambridge circus/earlham street 1960 - 1972 .................. hopeful, happy, hilarious times with best music, back in baker street now after 40 years in the suburbs
I scan these films of Soho between the years of 63 to 66 just in case I may have been caught on camera. The years 64 to 65 especially as I was a Messenger Boy then for a film company based in Wardour St and was always about in the area but so far no luck. One night I was down the Scene Club in Ham Yard and a film crew from the company I worked for came down and shot some stuff but never seen anything from that night. Probably ended up on the cutting room floor. 😊
It didn't seem that much has changed, I recognise easily Charing X Rd., Cambridge Circus, Berwick St market seemed more of a market than now. The building to the left at 0:28 is now Wunjos guitars, I bought a guitar there 6 weeks ago, great piece of film a shame about the greyish haze.
Even stranger is when you think that hip, young paris hilton lookalike at 1:14 is an elderly lady now, one who young people would think of as some kind of victorian relic, yet look at her in this she seems just as trendy and youthful half a century ago as any 20-something today.
paul broderick Yes, well there's always one on these 'Britain in the Old Days' videos that has to have a whine about foreigners stuffing everything up... Back in the 60s we were dodging IRA bombs, asylum seekers were celebrated for their courage in seeking freedom from oppressive regimes, and refugees from the Nazi terror in Europe were welcomed on the whole. Before that many waves of migrants (yes, and invaders) came to our shores and were integrated, each time bringing new ideas and skills and new genes into the mix. It was that very openness and the rich multicultural/multiracial stew that made Britain and the British people great. So, why in the 21st century a certain subsection of the English have suddenly retreated into themselves and gone all whiney/white supremicist/nationalistic like this I don't understand. It's just denying your own country's history.
@@papercup2517 Thank you! Yeah, well, what you said, and I've said the same on other videos. There's always one, in fact, there's usually a frightening amount of these people, ruining a nice little video with their small mindedness. They just can't help themselves.
Berwick Street had Musicland, among the best record stores in London in those years - they carried tix to the all-nighters at the Lyceum and sold American imports, a big deal back then. Those were my streets and I miss them.
London in the swinging 60’s was about women who were changing partners (swingers) at parties in front of each other, hence the term ‘Swinging Sixties’.
I was born in 1966. My first travel to London was in 1986. I’m in love of London. It is a magic City and my prefer of Europe. A Spanish.

I want to be there, and I want to be there NOW
Just think I was a teenager from Hampshire going to London clubbing . What times 😎
Am I the only one who watches all these old London clips hoping to see someone I knew then?

Did you ever go to the UFO on Tottenham Court Road ?
Also a snack bar opposite film house called Revenalls on Wardour Street?
Funny how the division between road and pavement seemed a lot sharper, eg. long kerb fences, no crossings in Cambridge Circus.

Wish I could have been there
A time it was and what a time it was.
I miss the great water feature that was out front of Centrepoint… it should have been listed / saved!
This is truly - DYNAMITE!
That centerpoint at the beginning looked brand new...it's already been pulled down.
Centrepoint has just been renovated.
That's a cool film .
ZnenTitan - True. Also, she's still only a baby, already dead, and unborn. Time is ah, amazing!
Weird when you think about how time really works. The baby in the pram is now a middle-aged 52 year old.

JohnLondon1990 I have an easy explanation; it's because she was. (BTW, make that Paris Hilton looks like HER)
……..if fortunate to escape terrorism and the 'invaders'!

The Beatles recording "Revolver" somewhere out there...
Exactly. And Hendrix tuning up in the Marquee dressing room
You are right. 1966 was a magic Beatle year.
Its like old meets new
What no traffic?
My uncle ran a pub in Berwick Street in those days.
I would like to think my uncle did the same back in the day, but unfortunately we're all holed in at a third world country.

my mum worked in one called the blue post or something
i think it was in soho

I remember London i grew up in Palmers green now I want to forget it
I completely agree. I had a few years in Palmers Green too frequenting the fox on a Sunday night for a beer and a quiz ....
Palmers Greek now😅😅
It's the same street oasis took their album cover.
So little traffic.
So many English looking people!
The woman in the thumbnail looks like Ian Drury in drag.
Could be nice without greyish haze...!
I only clicked on this as I thought the woman was from Tubbs Tattsyrup from The League Of Gentlemen. Maybe its a market just for local people ?
Cox pippins a shilling a pound? lubbly jubbly
Those apples were huge! I bet they weren't genetically modified though.
Unseen footage???? But it's had 26 thousands views.

Ha ha...@ 1:45...business a bit slow mate?
He'd probably been up since 4am and just took a moment to catch up on the news... give him a break!
That's really swinging! Hahahaha Hahahaha Hahahaha
Now look at it 😂
Hardly what I'd call "swinging"!
Where were you?
London in the swinging 60’s was about women who were changing partners (swingers) at parties in front of each other, hence the term ‘Swinging Sixties’.
They were some blonde fit birds in this piece.
