@@IAMCorung The computer didn't fly the ship, the ship was maintained and repaired by engineers, etc. The computer strikes me more like a classic program, a tool, not something that can operate without a human telling it what to do. That's what I never understand either, it's heartbreaking and incomprehensible. My theory is that some of these people think they're so far above everything and everybody that they're reaching deity level and don't need to explain themselves to us, the stupid masses, and also, because they're so ridiculously rich they'll always be fine. Everything that affects the rest of the world doesn't affect them and lack of empathy does the rest.

He would rather take his money and throw it at OpenAI until it can replace his IT department which is his business wet dream.

"Founders are special" - please elaborate. Because every tech bro startup founder I've encountered in my years on this earth shows the emotional depth of a third grader, the street smarts of a second grader, and the intellect of a first grader. Most don't know how to be genuinely selfless or kind; every relationship in their lives is a transaction. And they're so removed from the real world, from real life, from the business of existing in a human body among other humans, so lost in meaningless layers of abstraction (the sort of abstraction even a child knows is unhelpful) that most of them could live to be a hundred and wouldn't know anything useful or interesting about living. Eric himself seems to be no exception.

Intellect, incidentally, has no relation to grade level. Geniuses start school as geniiuses in Grade One.
Street smarts? You should clearly look in the mirror and consider the possibility that you're just projecting on that one. Street smarts, directed purposeful ability in the real world, is probably the segment of abilities most important in making a person an originator, here of businesses, rather than a sheep.

Maybe for programming you can focus more at home. But for a ton of jobs there’s this thing called synergy. The book named Drive has some examples companies that have different groups of workers but also promotes synergy and inter group work.
For instance, most students in college I know and from my own experiences online classes lets you study at home. Sure you can focus but there’s ZERO synergy or learning from each other. Any communication between students are artificial and meaningless essentially. Some students prefer zero social interaction whereas others learn from social interaction and listening to questions etc.
People say oh if you have an online class you can still ask questions. It’s like no. I’m not going to email back and forth over a question. Now I will stay after class and talk for an hour about a question and gain a much deeper understanding of something then I otherwise would.
Sure focus is important. I get easily distracted too so I understand. But working at home I don’t see people interacting as much as they perhaps otherwise would or work with other groups to solve things.
My brother does auditing. Some days he works from home but it’s not really to focus more but the benefit is not driving into work. But he works more in the office normally especially as they’re training him or he’s still learning.
With AI it really makes me wonder how many jobs will be ended by just letting computers really focus and computers can self program.

What Eric is missing would be that I cannot work during an hour long commute to and from his workplace, and I cannot afford to nourish myself well at the location he has decided to coagulate everything for marketing (investor) purposes. Work/life, at home I can scratch my dog, and go back to working. I have MY fridge, MY seat , MY ass kicking internet, Skype, GoToMeeting,, and many other collaborative tools that make my company more profitable than his. My company pays no rent, no electricity, and no ecological fees for all the cars they bring online twice every day. Working hard is easier if I can go from sleep to shower to desktop, in fewer than 20 steps. No wonder hes' had so many jobs....he spends too much time in his car!

      Robert,
What you miss is that the commute is the most valuable part of very many people's day: It is two blessed periods of privacy to use as they choose. Even if they're confined to their car for 100 minutes out of two one hour drives, that is peace and quiet, one's own chosen radio, with news and features, or study time with tapes.
All of those are great personal benefits.

No one had air-conditioning just ceiling fans that would cut your hand off if you raised it too high. Old black and white TV with 3 channels and bad reception. Everybody had their windows in their house raised to keep Cool. I would go back to those days in a nanosecond.!! you can have these times to live in. Russia did not destroy apartment buildings filled with little old ladies and kids. It was Ukraine that was firing missiles into Eastern Ukrainian towns killing kids, so President Putin started his special military operation into the Russian speaking eastern Ukraine and moved the kids to towns in Russia where they get visits from their parents in Eastern Ukraine which is now part of Russia after a referendum that was overseen by independent referees. Eric Schmidt has no clue about politics like Elon Musk who was brought up on American Superhero comics and Hollywood space fiction movies in South Africa. Elon had a hard time at school because he was a little smart ass. Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise. A trip to Mars in Musk's rocket will take 9 months, a stop on Mars of 3 months to wait for correct Mars Earth alignment, then a return trip of 9 months. Nearly 2 years of wasted time couped up in a tin can. The Moon is only 7 days return from Earth, build a massive James Web space telescope on the Moon and explore the Universe with that!!!

It saves time for humans when computers, AI, and robots can do a better job at a cheaper price. It can all be run on stored sun and wind power. Current generations are more occupied taking good selfies to show others how great they are.

Renewables can't come close to supplying the energy needs for AI. They only represent 6% of the energy mix. Nuclear power stations last 100 years and can produce all our electricity needs for AI.

Yep. You know they’re delusional if they say solar and wind can run things especially with batteries. It’s like first off those things emit tons of pollution just to create. But the real issue is uranium gives like 100 units of energy per unit of energy input. It’s the most efficient energy there is.

    8:54 I disagree, utterly.
He is singular in his pov.
He does not recognize the dynamic capabilities of humans. Creativity is stifled in his expression of how he perceives this industry, interaction with it, growth beyond banks and electrical life components as well is its value.
So much, so narrow sighted. He mentioned ego and his clear inability to recognize that the perspective of “real innovation” has blinders.

That man is a very dangerous man. I am horrified by his candor, concerning death and destruction. Russia wasn't destroying Ukrainian women and children. Besides that, he is no one that should be helping to attack Russia or anyone else. Seriously, who is he really? I can't believe what he is saying. He needs to be investigated. Follow his money, and his associations. What has he been involved with, and who is he talking to behind the scenes. Google didn't take this interview off for him saying they are lazy, it was because their former CEO is a crazy man who wants to take over the world using AI. WTF!!!

The theory of having your employees/workers
work hard has been done for millennials.
Priblem is the workers were never rewarded with a middle class wage.
From the late 1940s to the late 1970s there was a muddle class.
But greedy corporate heads sent jobs to China, so China could build a large military.
These corporate heads were never Americans, and our so called founding fathers were naive, they didn't understand the human nature of greed, which is an insatiable sin of gluttony.
