So when the donor comes and has a “chat” with you to run certain information twisting things here and there that aren’t necessarily true, so you think that CEO really has the choice to say no?! 😂 of course not. He would rather take his money and throw it at OpenAI until it can replace his IT department which is his business wet dream.

I work for a large cap IT security company, also in Silicon Valley. They want everyone back in the office too and are only filling openings in my department from two cities where we have our main corporate headquarters.
Except they're losing out on numerous good candidates for numerous openings because of this strategy, and even hiring sub-par people internally who don't have the skill sets for these roles.
I got hired as a full-time remote employee in a different city before this new policy took hold. But I run circles around my colleagues and have been promoted to a Senior title after only one year. Many of those colleagues sit in the Silicon Valley cubicles he's talking about, and more than one of them are people that I mentor.
Work ethic is work ethic, and dedication is dedication. That doesn't dramatically change based on what chair you're sitting in and what city that chair resides in. Maybe middle and upper level managers just need to plan better, have a genuine understanding of what they're managing, and motivate their people better.

They tell us that time is running out so that they can close nuclear power plants and force us to us more expensive and more wasteful "green" energy. It's designed to force us to consume more. And in order to consumer more, we need to work more and pay more taxes and suffer more inflation and wars. It's all about wealth transfer. They don't want us comfortable because it's not profitable. They need the world in chaos because it's easier to enslave us. There is only one global political issue and it's money. The financial system needs to be reformed. The power to govern financial policy has to shift from the hidden private to the transparent public.

Tesla’s fear was that ‘they’, (the powers that be) might use his inventions rather than to help mankind but to be used against mankind. Sound familiar? ie. weapons of mass destruction, 911 dustafication of buildings/cars Book: by Judy Wood “Where did the Towers Go?”, Lahaina, Maui Book: The Great Maui Land Grab… et cetera.
They stole all of N. Tesla’s work right after he died. And Musk stole his name. These ppl have no moral or ethical mindset. We r already funding a Genocide in Gaza using advanced weapons and microwave energy. Look it up…

"Founders are special" - please elaborate. Because every tech bro startup founder I've encountered in my years on this earth shows the emotional depth of a third grader, the street smarts of a second grader, and the intellect of a first grader. Most don't know how to be genuinely selfless or kind; every relationship in their lives is a transaction. And they're so removed from the real world, from real life, from the business of existing in a human body among other humans, so lost in meaningless layers of abstraction (the sort of abstraction even a child knows is unhelpful) that most of them could live to be a hundred and wouldn't know anything useful or interesting about living. Eric himself seems to be no exception.

You're skilled at insult; incompetent at observation, John.
Intellect, incidentally, has no relation to grade level. Geniuses start school as geniiuses in Grade One.
Street smarts? You should clearly look in the mirror and consider the possibility that you're just projecting on that one. Street smarts, directed purposeful ability in the real world, is probably the segment of abilities most important in making a person an originator, here of businesses, rather than a sheep.
Maybe you should just lock up your computer: it's possible that a person of extraordinary stupidity is sneaking in and posting in your name to make you look bad.

I'm old and I watched a show/movie about the Highwaymen and old Bonnie and Clyde movie and while I watching it I was drawn back to when I was a kid. The buildings and houses old stores they had and showed in that movie reminded me of when I was a kid. The simple times!! then looking at today I prefer the older days the simple times. You would go to the store and 2 big heavy duty wooden benches out front where you would sit and eat your cake and drink a coke talk to your friends with 6 or 7 bicycles parked out front we didn't have much but we had a blast. No one had air-conditioning just ceiling fans that would cut your hand off if you raised it too high. Old black and white TV with 3 channels and bad reception. Everybody had their windows in their house raised to keep Cool. I would go back to those days in a nanosecond.!! you can have these times to live in. I think you're advancing yourselves into a lonely nightmare. Maybe real progress would be to go back in time not forward. your outrunning yourselves you will end up Lost living in a dystopian nightmare.

I have MY fridge, MY seat , MY ass kicking internet, Skype, GoToMeeting,, and many other collaborative tools that make my company more profitable than his. My company pays no rent, no electricity, and no ecological fees for all the cars they bring online twice every day. You can download all the things if you live in a country that doesn't enforce copyrights from other countries. In other words, Chinese AI models are going to get way more talented than models that respectfully excluded copyrighted material. Progress won't be held back... like stem cell research, hindrance will just cause it to flow faster in other places, like water in a creek flowing around a rock

Then a whole lot of chaos can ensue from there same as it did during ancient times around all of the at least 10 years a slave back then too.

Maybe for programming you can focus more at home. But for a ton of jobs there’s this thing called synergy. The book named Drive has some examples companies that have different groups of workers but also promotes synergy and inter group work.
For instance, most students in college I know and from my own experiences online classes lets you study at home. Sure you can focus but there’s ZERO synergy or learning from each other. Any communication between students are artificial and meaningless essentially. Some students prefer zero social interaction whereas others learn from social interaction and listening to questions etc.
People say oh if you have an online class you can still ask questions. It’s like no. I’m not going to email back and forth over a question. Now I will stay after class and talk for an hour about a question and gain a much deeper understanding of something then I otherwise would.
Sure focus is important. I get easily distracted too so I understand. But working at home I don’t see people interacting as much as they perhaps otherwise would or work with other groups to solve things.
My brother does auditing. Some days he works from home but it’s not really to focus more but the benefit is not driving into work. But he works more in the office normally especially as they’re training him or he’s still learning.
With AI it really makes me wonder how many jobs will be ended by just letting computers really focus and computers can self program.

The problem is not the technology, it's politicians who have no business trying to govern a modern society. They lack the understanding and vision of how to write legislation for a technological society. They trust the very people their supposed to be reining in to write the legislation. Being techno illiterate can be good. It can result in overly restrictive laws that make people think out the adoption of all these new technologies and how to weave them into the cultural fabric. Organic is not good in this case.
