Mother, he is not your 'baby'. He is a young man with a history of drug dealing, involved in a gang crime while he attacked a man with axt, machetes, split his scull. He is not a harmless baby, maybe stupid but tried to mess up with the big bad boys on the island. Sorry.
I have a friend who lives in the same village as this guy. Says the guy was a troublemaker, dealing drugs and a vandal on numerous occasions. The gene pool will not miss this person.

Somebody misding in difficult terrain = first priority of police is to find him, after 2 weeks no hope, stopp. Second= investigations into other crime possibilities, that is going on. But to be honest, if a young Brit with criminal history messes up with the big bad noys on the island - he gets what he deserves, the police might think

The authorities probably don’t want a bunch of holidaymakers, who would normally not bother going for a walk in the local park, trying to make themselves famous by thinking they can find Jay and instead finding themselves having to be rescued.
You have needed a ticket to go down that trail, for years. You have to have a particular type of footwear and they can turn you away if you don't have what is needed. I believe they even sell "appropriate footwear". I also recall that you possibly have to wear a hard hat. You have a set time of entry and you have to be back by a certain time. There used to be a boat that you could take from the bottom to Puerto de Santiago. Nowadays you have to walk down and back up. I think the rules began after people were going down there and getting lost and/or injured and mountain rescue having to go and find them.
If he robbed someone and he is no more. Then he should of kept on the right side of the law after the machete incident. If it's a donation scam, Jay and his parents, probably didn't expect so much publicity and therefore have to play along. If he knew the guys and he got on the wrong side of them. He should of picked his friends more carefully. The moral of the story is, if you need help and have been a public nuisance, don't expect anyone to come running, in your hour of need.
How did Jay steel the watch? How could he get the watch off of someone's wrist and how would they not have noticed? I think Jay lied about the watch to his friends , pretending he was going to sell it to get some money to give back to the druggies. Did his friends see the watch?
I can't imagine what could have happened to this young man, him and his friends seem like a wholesome group, simply enjoying a sunny holiday. It's difficult not to empathise with his family too, they appear to be so sincere.

You've got to love amateurs. The Police used drones and dogs to search the areas around Masca. If there was anything or relevance there, they'd have found it. Anybody can walk a trail, pick up some discarded rubbish and claim it as 'clues'.
i pray they find him but also a little careless what jay did(granted the drinking can make u not think straight depending on how much u drink) becuase he is in a country he knows nothing about and his place is 11 hours away wich is crazy and your walking back with 2 other guys who u dont even know.And then all of a sudden your lost with 1% on your phone so imo he is in hiding or worst case maybe fell and died or murdered and they have hidden the body.And again i hope they find him soon and the news needs to stop milking this
