* Forgot to include my thoughts on the flaws of the Sony a7Cr so here they are in writing - As much as I love this camera, its not perfect but for its size and what I am using it for the pro's massively outweigh the cons - EVF - The electronic viewfinder because of its size its not the best resolution and I have seen a lot of people talking about this about this online for the a7cII and ac7r but for the size of the camera and it even having an EVF I am taking compatibility over a better quality EVF all day long. Single memory card slot - I feel like this is less of an issue over the last year as it is becoming more of a regular occurrence in compact cameras, however some people are still put off by this. I have been shooting all my video work for youtube & clients on the Sony ZV-E1 for the past year and a half which also features a single SD card slot and have never faced an issue *touch wood* If you're not fussed about the size and compatibility of your camera then the A7c and ZV ranges are not for you. After using the ZV-E1 i've learnt to trust my gear and more importantly invest into better quality memory cards to avoid any unwanted issues. Focus joystick - Coming from the A7IV it took sometime for me to get used to the a7cr not having a focus joystick but after sometime using the camera I have since set up custom buttons on the camera such as using ring dial to move my focus points to various points of the frame in a similar way of having a focus joystick. Overall to create a small powerful camera such as the a7cr and a7cII's you have to make compromises elsewhere and with all of the above I am personally taking the ability to want to have this cameras on me all day everyday than having a bigger camera with the above.
I just loved it Scott. Your honest enthusiasm, the incredibly well-made soundtrack, the gorgeous images, everything works. And when you create a video where everything is working the piece itself starts to add subtitles that you might have not consciously intended--like at the close the jazz piano player adds left-hand noodling that has an asian theme-- at least that is what I hear. Great work, Scott.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Good to see someone actually love and use their camera, regardless of brand. But I have to say the A7CR is special. It should be overlooked because it is a Sony camera. It is an incredible tool of joy. I love mine and gravitating to it more and more when I shoot photos. It basically is a baby A7R5.
I ended up adding both the A7CR and A7CII to my group of cameras. Still have my A7RV and A1 but love these for travel. While I like the small G primes I also recently bought in to the 24-50/2.8 G zoom for more flexibility. I prevents me from having to switch lenses when I’m walking around. Highly recommend the combo. I miss the times when I could travel to Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Korea. Great places to take a camera. Thank you and take care.
You have my same setup with the A7CR and the Sony 40mm 2.5! I also got the Sigma 85mm 1.4 Art. I recently swapped the Canon R5 for it and have no regrets. So much quality in a smaller body.
Fantastic video Scott. Thanks for adding the Pic stats back to the production. Also recently evolved from 7IV to A7CR and went with the 40mmG and 24mm G. Perfect travel combo. 0:02
I had a lot of requests for that to come back so glad you’re happy to see it😊 the a7cr and the 40mm is such a great combo! I have a video coming soon on the 40mm, what a lens!
another cracking vid Bro! I cant tell if you're genuinely super happy about the camera, Osaka or just life in general ;) I also have been enjoying the A7CR, mainly with the 35mm f2.8 Zeiss. Thriving in the simplicity
Thanks so much mate, haha and all of the above!!! Thriving in the simplicity is the perfect way to put it. I have certainly have been caught up in the past of having every lens with me at all times but since the a7cr and 40mm came into my life, I've shot way more photos and just enjoyed it so much more rather than having a backpack of gear on me. Appreciate you watching mate, hope all is well!
Thank you for the great video, Scott! I'm planning to travel to Japan and Korea for 15 days. After watching your video, I'm thinking about bringing my a74 or buying an a7cii. Currently, I own 24, 35, 50, and 85 lenses. I also have the 24-70 and 70-200, all GM lenses. The 40mm and the 20mm lenses are tempting. I shoot weddings professionally and I'm wondering which focal lengths you think I can't leave behind on a trip like this. I completely agree that the a7cr and the 40mm lens is the best travel camera you can have. Thank you!
Thanks for watching Ruben! That’s gonna be a great trip, I’m jealous. It depends how you like to travel, I seem to take everything with me but since the a7cr came into my life I’ve rarely used many other lenses other than the 40mm. If you wanted to go light I would go with the 24-70 and then the 50 or 85. I absolutely adore the 85mm and it’s perfect for the streets of Japan. Have a great trip mate, enjoy
I concur with you 100% I've been wanting the A7CR since it was released but I bought the A7RV last Christmas instead during the Sony trade in promotion for $2500. Last month Sony ran the same promotion again so I finally bought my A7CR for $2200. I don't think you can buy a better travel/street photography camera for the price. I even have the same 40mm 2.5 G lens which I think is the perfect combo. Hope you had a great time in Japan it's definitely on my bucket list to visit. Sub
As a film Leica M shooter, the attraction of this camera for me is to essentially have an alternative at about 1/3 the cost of a digital M as I could use all my Leica lenses with a discrete adapter.
or you could get an original Q for cheaper than the body alone and stay in the Leica system, avoid adapters and not have to resort shooting a literal computer that thinks its a camera! 🤷🏽♂
@@Caballeroshot Yes, I have certainly given that serious thought. The big issue for me is the fixed 28mm lens. It's just not a focal length that works for me.
@@Caballeroshot But then you will not have access to all those great Sony E-Mount lenses. Also the Sony ecosystems is incredible. And when you think about it, when you put a Leica lens on a Sony body, you basically have a Leica. Best of all worlds.
Didn't like the A7c mostly due to the viewfinder. Not sure if the A7C R is any better there. However I'm currently only using the Fuji X100VI really, which with a 35mm is a somewhat similar setup. Love the simplicity. If I did have an A7C R I'd buy the 24mm f2.8 lens though :-)
I nearly bought the Sony A7CR camera, I like the design with the EVF in the corner very much, BUT then I got to know that it has a small EVF with low resolution and it has no joystick plus the price is too high, in fact this summer when the the Sony A7RV was on offer the Sony A7CR was more expensive !!!
Yeah for a camera of its size it has its flaws, such as the quality of the EVF but personally for me I am taking the compatibility over the flaws. Having a good camera on my at all times is the most important thing.
I shot the whole afternoon in the rain and never had any issues, I’ve never had issues with any of my Sony gear that being said. It also depends on what lenses you are using with the camera not all 3rd party lenses would be waterproof
I’m not planning too I just have the flexibility too if I want too. 40mm is a great focal length for street photography. This camera is all about being small lightweight and compact which is why I’m using a the little Sony G lenses with it
You've just made me realise that i forgot to put in the part where I mention the flaws of the camera. The EVF was one of them but what do you expect for the size of the camera, i'm taking compatibility over a better viewfinder for this kind of camera.

What a selection of cameras you have there! That little 24-50 is another great lens for the a7c series, compact but offers great range
Scott my biggest gripe with your photography is that I always want more of your productions; really good stuff man!
