    Loved how the original toys looked like they could exist in the real world.

    This was originally filmed as an exclusive video for BLIP.TV in November 2013. Enjoy!

    The Cobra HISS tank is a classic. I'd like to get one of the miniature ones that you featured on your channel a while back. I have the Kreon HISS tank and am so glad that I picked one up. Such a cool design. Thanks for the video

    Thanks for posting, Kevin. I really enjoyed the insight into the prototypes of the HISS tank and of course your action sequence at the end.

    I'm surprised they didn't release multiple versions of the HISS, only with different guns...

    The HISS driver is an O5? That's a fairly high officer, I've never known a Lt. Col. to drive themselves.

    I suppose it's a testament to how good this toy is that Hasbro still keeps releasing the mold. I picked up the black, red and blue 25th versions recently, plus some others going form the HISS II to the Retaliation version(short comments on the Retaliation release- I paid $15 shipped for it, it's worth that much, but it' really suffers from cost-cutting decisions and the 5 POA driver figure is such a waste of a good figure design).
    In regards to what changes Hasbro made, the driver's seat isn't the only tweak. The foot pegs were changed, naturally, and the cap holding the guns in place was altered to be held on by a screw so it's a bit easier to remove. Not much easier, it slots on tight and has a tricky clip in the back, and getting it back on is a chore, but I guess it's easier than fiddling with those clips the original used. Shame they didn't redesign the cheap ratchet pins while they were at it. I am curious how the new guns made for the recent versions were designed.
    Although if you want a solid black HISS, you will have to go vintage. Hasbro made the treads and bucket of the 25th black version a graphite gray color, I guess to help them stand out from the body. Red & blue kept those parts in black.

    Kevin, I see that you have a lot of boxed items, do you open them for your reviews?

    • @formbx257
      @formbx257  8 років тому +2

      Most of my boxed items were bought with the box opened by the original owner and the vehicle already assembled. The opened boxes provide storage or them when not on display. Only my Rattler was opened and assembled by me (I left the sealed Wild Weasel alone).

    when did they make the blue HISS tanks?

    • @formbx257
      @formbx257  7 років тому +2

      Using this mold? In 2000 (called the HISS III with Rip-It) and 2008 (Target exclusive with grey Cobra Driver).

    I use to have an original Hiss tank but I don't now but I did pick up some of the 25th anniversary versions! are they the same mold as the original?

    • @formbx257
      @formbx257  8 років тому +1

      +Impossible Pie Yes, the 25th anniversary versions are the same mold as the 1983 original. They changed the interior space in the cockpit for the larger modern figures, but you can't tell from the outside.

      formbx257 the tank in toy scale is very under sized but the Hiss Tank and the Rattler are my two favourite Cobra Vehicles.

    Good review of a toy I love. I'm not sure about the Hiss Tank getting an Action Force release though. I stand to be corrected but it was only released as the Hyena with Red Jackal, the Escape Armour was the only way to get the Hiss Driver in the UK.

    • @formbx257
      @formbx257  8 років тому +1

      +KatchouroBlade According to the AF collector site, it was released in black with the Hiss Driver but still called the Hyena: bloodforthebaron.com/toys/003/cobra/005/index.html

      +formbx257 Thanks for the link, that's a useful reference site. This is the first time I've even seen the black Hiss in Palitoy packaging, I've seen promo images but just presumed it never reached retail. I'm assuming it must be rare because I never saw it as a kid, whereas the red Hyena was one of the more popular and attainable toys. Looking at the site the Hiss Driver was also available in the Action Force clearance pack range.Strangely enough when Hasbro started releasing the toys in the UK they choose not to rerelease the Hiss. But they did release the Stinger, F.A.N.G, Moccasin. It always struck me as a strange decision not to release such an iconic and quintessential Cobra vehicle.

    I got this in the early 80's, but mine was in red, not black like yours. Do you know anything about the red variation? I got in in NYC.

      +ZapOnlineOrg What you might've had was this: ua-cam.com/video/IYhGGJBB7V8/v-deo.html a 1985 Sears exclusive Crimson Guard SMS. Either that, or you got a 1984 UK Action Force Hyena bloodforthebaron.com/toys/002/redshadows/002/index.html
