I can really recommend watching the film with the audio commentary, it answers some of your questions about it. Donnie escaping his death/fate is one of the most misinterpreted things about it. I used to think the same thing, but discussing it with others made me realize it was totally different. Which is part of the charm I think. Like you said in the video, the film throws up a lot of questions. That is clearly not your thing, but maybe in talking about it with others you will find some new found appreciation for it. The Donnie Darko subreddit is a great place to start! And maybe you can enjoy the mailbox of Roberta Sparrow even more after that ;)
It's important to watch the Directors Cut. Every "random" event takes place to affect these people in the other timeline. It's kind of like a non-Christian take on the story of Jesus. He does all of these things through the film only to be the sacrifice at the end so the other characters can live. Even as far as to question why he must be the sacrifice during the "who cares if rabbits die?" classroom scene where the teacher responds "because the rabbits are us". And Roberta Sparrow is a huge character as she provided the book on tangent universes and time travel. I get it though. The first time I watched it, I was like "What the heck did I just watch?".
Frank didn't woke Donnie up, Donnie is a sleepwalker so he stand up and walks by himself, but Frank calls him to tell him about the world's end and to gain his trust making him believe Frank saved his life

I don’t hate the movie, it just has so many open ended ideas and no answers. You definitely said things that happen in the movie but it doesn’t answer any questions. For example, is this a time travel movie? If so, who travels through time? Is it Frank that comes the future? Or more like… the ghost of frank that Donnie is talking to? If the plane engine comes from a plan in the future does that mean his mom and sister die in the future regardless? Is there a reason Donny is supposed to die? in the timeline that frank lives, that pedophiles house doesn’t get burned down and he doesn’t get found out, and Donny dies, it seems like they are equality shitty outcomes. Is there a reason that one path is correct and the other is not? Who or what is the force in this movie that is driving the plot? Who or what is it that thinks Donny should die? What are the rules, methods or mechanics of time travel in this movie? We got a ghost that comes from the future, then at some point Donny travels back in time to his bed from a different point in the future, a plane engine falls from the sky from another point in time… for reasons… like did god decide “fuck this plane I’m destroying it and killing everyone in it so that I can smite this kid in his bed, but he isn’t even going to be in his bed at the time I send the plane engine, so I’ll also send the ghost of a dead kid from Halloween to get Donny to do a bunch of messes up stuff until he watches his girlfriend die so that he will want to die himself instead and then he can travel back in time to be in the bed when the magical plane engine that came from the future falls”. It’s just so convoluted. There are easier ways for god to smite Donny, I’m sure. Ghosts, people and inanimate objects all can travel time without any of them having any powers and without the use of science? So it must be god and all powerful omnipresent being wouldn’t need to follow all these steps to arrive at this desired outcome. … the figure looks great though.

Movie and becomes a manipulated dead then becomes the spirit in the tangent universe ( there is 3 universes, the tangent the regular witch is what happens when Donnie dies and and the universe where the plane engine never broke of) back to it so the manipulated dead frank(that has many abilities like forse fields like in the bathroom, time travel and other super hero like abilities) so frank travels back in time before he dies into the regular universe and not the tangent.
