That might be so. But then so is his "argument". I just find it incredibly egocentric and navel-gazing to make a song like this basically calling every religious person ever a victim to some illusory dangerous power machine and then singing it like he knows the truth. This is what happens if you ask a biologist about human nature. Ask Socrates instead. I just wanted to point out how selective his critique is, because it's easy just to like the mellow vibe and settle for that.
Beautiful song. But the lyrics just seem populistic. He's making one of the common thoughts of error, applying the concept of determinism to a tendency he don't like (religion?) but not applying it to himself. A wise man understands that if he is right he would have been determined to write that lyric, whether it is true or not. So much for truth and knowledge... of course humanism is out of the question as well. Nice vibe though, as I said.
deralbernehelge: It's not obvious. And we probably differ on what godly inspiration is, I do not believe in a ghost poking thoughts into peoples minds :) It is one of the stories that have become a real thought provoker in monotheistic litterature , generating very interesting texts, Kierkegaards "Fear and trembling" comes to mind.
Just his point of view. He can say what i think! All relegious people say what they think too. And i really hate when relegious people can't take critique! In order to be relegious the right way i think you have to have been critical about your own relegion (soory my bad english) I personaly was not relegious after i had been critical...
two quotes: "J.G. is so egocentric, his critique is selective." "Not much of what you say makes any sense. Cook up some myths, then ask for obedience." Your 3rd sentence, "calling every... and then..." how exactly do you come to that? religios fantasy again...
@nickirsch This one: Alhambra 5P - Cedar Top. Also, he is sponsered by Cordoba Guitars and has one of their guitars too, which he uses when touring in the US. The one he plays when playing Far Away.
What's the difference... He's a person. How bout' we leave it at that and drop religion or lack there of. The world would be a much better place if everyone could do so.
