Naomi E. Long, 104 years young, made her transition from earth to Glory on September 20, 2024. She was born to the late Ed and Ethel Smith on August 13, 1920, and she was baptized at a very young age. Naomi was one of ten children; two of which unfortunately passed in a house fire. Naomi attended the Historic Douglas High School, and after married Reverend George Morris. To this union, they had four children. Reverend Morris preceded Naomi in death. Naomi joined Little Valley Baptist Church at this time, located in Beverly Heights on Meyer Ave, presided by Pastor B.J. Boozer. Later, the church moved to its current locale on Riverside Dr. Naomi worked in all areas of the church - Choir, Musician, Mission work, and teaching Sunday School; she was also Custodian to the Church. She also found a special calling in caring for the sick and shut-in.
Naomi then married Deac. Louis Long, who also preceded her in death. Naomi worked in the Church until her health began to fail; she also worked at the University of Evansville until she retired at 75.
Naomi loved and was proficient at many things - her flowers and gardening, making rugs at the Senior Citizen Building, Sewing, Quilting, Baking, spending time with her family and eating out. She was also an avid baseball fan; the St. Louis Cardinals were her favorite team.
Naomi was preceded in death by one son, Raymond Morris; two grandsons, Johnny Hughes and Raymond Hughes; and one great-grandson, Tony Morris.
She is survived by her children Laquita M. Northington, George C. (Mary A.) Morris, Patricia A. (John D.) Herring; grandchildren Bonietta Hughes, David (Cynthia) Sawyers, Ladonna (John) Bunch, Michael Morris, Anthony Morris, Raymond (Brenda) Morris, Ngina (Anthony) Hillman, Ramone (Kim) Morris, Clinton (Princella) Morris, Theresa (Allen) Beasely, and Clifford (Megan) Morris; as well as a host of great and great-great grandchildren.
The family of Naomi Long would like to extend special thank-you’s to the following: special caregivers Vita L. Crowe, Sue Morris, Erica Dill and Ngina Hillman; Heritage Center, Deaconess ICU, Linda White Hospice; and all who loved Naomi, cared for her and made sure she was well taken care of. Also a special thank-you to all who donated and aided to help renovate Naomi’s home so that it would be accessible for her to remain at home - Allen’s Home Solutions, Bill’s Plumbing, Chase Keller (Electrician), Anthony Hillman (Painting and Maintenance), Healthy Spaces, Corressell Heating & Air/CenterPoint, and Window World.
